Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)
its like when egm changed. back in the day egm magazine was massive especially the xmas issue then over the years they got smaller and smaller. i wonder if wizzard couldnt go digital too. maybe a buck or 2 for a digital download.
I believe they are planning a digital relaunch under a similar name. They also said they were going to relaunch their messenger boards, but that has not happened.

If they were going to switch to a digital format they should have done it while the magazine was still being published. It would have smoothed the transition considerably as they could have promoted it for a while. Seeing as how they fired the entire staffs of both Wizard and Toyfare I don't see a digital relaunch happening, much less a successful one.
They never even contacted us at least letting us know they stop publication. I never even got a single issue.

The FF comic reminds of the Death of Superman I still have in the plastic wrap. Is that even worth anything?
I doubt it's worth anything. I just wanted to buy a piece of history, and not open it.

It's not often you buy a comic with a death of someone, and it's in cased in plastic you can't open and peak.

I agree, I am just going by what Shamus said (which was a quote from January) about continuing the mag online.

Anyone else like the Captain America Trailer? This is the first Marvel movie that might be good...But I haven't seen Red Skull yet.

If you blinked during the trailer your missed the half second glimpse of the Red Skull.

I think I saw a split second of him during the Super Bowl commercial. COuldn't really make out the details. I think it looked interesting, much better then Thor at least.
If you blinked during the trailer your missed the half second glimpse of the Red Skull.
I freeze framed that part. Red Skull Freaking looked awesome imo.

The movie as a whole got my hopes up now, compared to me not liking it before.

Thor can suck it though. One eye Odin will just make me laugh the whole time.

Then you haven't seen Iron Man. :)

Odin has been portrayed as one-eyed before in the comics.

Thanks for the link. Red Skull does look good.

As for Marvel movies the first two Spidey movies were good. I also liked Hulk (Ed Norton) and Iron Man was the best of all. The less I see of Thor the better. I just have a bad feeling about that one.

I was assuming slowdive was referring to movies produced directly by Marvel. I agree on the first 2 Spider-Man movies along with X-Men being decent and X-Men 2 was good as well.

no problem the thing with marvel movies is the first one tends to be good and then for some reason they lose it with each one after.

the hulk remake was awesome hulkwise i like norton as an actor but he wasnt right for banner.

ironman 1 was the best marvel movie ever ( next to blade 1 and 2) i still dont get wtf happend with iron man 2 the action was cool to watch but the rest of the film was dull.

xmen 2 was one of the few instance where a marvel movie got better but with the next installment but weirdly enough they always fall apart with the 3rd film ( spiderman 3 , blade 3, xmen 3).

and then you have all the other marvel films that were horrible.

id also add howard the duck to my favorite marvel films i know its a bad movie but i saw it as a kid and itll always be one of those films i see with rose colored glasses lol.

I thoroughly enjoy both trailers. Captain America, more so. I don't get the hate on Thor. The Asgardian realm looks damn impressive.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong. I want this movie to kick ass more than anyone but it just reeks of cheez.

DUCK BOOB!!! I went back and watched this movie and it wasn't as fun as I remember, in fact it was a little disturbing. Funny enough it was produced by George Lucas which I didn't know until recently.

I don't get the character lineup for X-Men First class, seems like Beast is the only original character they're using. I don't see anyone cast as Jean or Scott, but Havok is there, wtf.

yeah i didnt want to go into how fucked up the film is when you see it grown up duck boob, attempted rape, beastiality its all pretty messed up but those were the times. youd never get away with alot of that stuff nowdays.

I should clarify, I do like Iron Man (it was a pleasant surprise when I saw it). I also liked (Ed Norton) Hulk. I remember feeling let down buy the 1st spider-man, but I did like the second one more.

I know a lot of people didn't like Xmen the last stand, but I really liked when Wolverine was trying to reach Jean as well as the way they director showed the scope of Magneto's power.

Thanks to the people that pointed out red skull in the trailer...I missed him the first time!

So has anyone here read Tiny Titans? I'm looking for some comics for my 6 year old. She just read Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade and really liked it. She read the whole thing twice on the day we bought it (Saturday) and she probably read it again today. I'm looking for some more age appropriate comics (that don't suck - no Dora, etc.). Anyone getting their kids into this stuff?

X-men: The Last Stand while overall not great had some cool moments like those you mentioned plus Kitty vs. Juggernaut (ignoring the cheesy one-liner by Jugg of course).

TT is very popular and has been good quality-wise for it's target audience. IMO you'll be safe with that title.

That's because it's taking place in the 1960s IIRC.

The first class should be Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, Cyclops, and Iceman if the movie was about the 'first class'.

The must be using a "new" storyline that rewrites history like the ultimates crap.
That's because it's taking place in the 1960s IIRC.
Well, the orginal X-Men were introduced in the 60's so it doesn't have much to do with comic continuity. Plus it's got the Hellfire club along with Sebastian Shaw who weren't around until the 80's. It's just a loosely based prequel to the movie adaptions and not much more.

I will say Kevin Bacon as Shaw is interesting.
That's because it's taking place in the 1960s IIRC.
And they were there in the 60s, the reason they aren't in this movie is because it then wouldn't make sense in the other 3 X-Men movies, Jean and Scott would be in their 50s. Beast makes sense because he was older in Last Stand anyway. What doesn't make sense is why Havok is in this, that would make him probably 20 years older than Cyclops.

This is one reason why comic movies are tough, people can accept that comic characters don't age in the comics, doesn't work in movies.

My kids loved the Power Pack comics.

Are you basing this on a recent solicitation pp? Kinda rude if it is.

Aside from that, TWD 81 left a lot to be desired.

I knew the way they parked the truck against the fence it wouldn't hold.

Yea they have advertising the new team costumes and lineup all week.

Kinda lame since "the" ff issue justcame out and they are already releasing spoiler covers.

New costumes look nice though. I might actually start reading ff cuase of them.

I'd be willing to bet that this was a big influence on the costume design.

I'm pretty sure my favorite current books ATM are Batgirl and Spider-Girl. The creative teams on both books are doing an amazing job.

I'm also really digging those costumes for new FF.
Man those costumes look horrible. That may go down as one of marvel's dumber marketing gimmicks.
not as bad as thunderstrikes new look lol btw anyone know how the original one died?

I'm a huge fan of the Teen Titans, so I've picked up a couple of issues here and there. I found it to be really funny and I think it would perfectly suitable for little ones. Just keep in mind that Tiny Titans is more of a collection of short stories and it doesn't really have an ongoing storyline.

Also, Lunch Lady Darkseid is awesome.

Finally read FF #587. Probably one of the best single issues I've read in a while.

Mega Man is getting a new comic in May. Always been a fan of the Blue Bomber so I'm sold on the first issue.

The Thing in particularly looks the most silly.

Thanks - that's actually perfect. It doesn't have to have an ongoing story line but it will be good to familiarize the kids with the characters. I'm probably going to pick up a collection or two and see how they like them.

I've been trying to keep up with the Amazing Spider-Man series, since it's the only one I'm following regularly. So far this Big Time storyline is reinventing some villains I've actually been wanting to see(Hobgoblin, the Spider Slayers). It introduced one of the weirdest looking Spidey costumes I've seen(the stealth suit). I was reading somewhere that they might be bringing back Ben Reilly into the rebooted universe. Since that "Clone Saga" story they did last year got good reviews & sales.

I haven't found 654 yet, but I know it's teasing a new Venom. But are the spoilers I've found right? That it's
Flash Thompson
? If so, seems like a weird choice. Since the concept art in 652 looks like it could be the Punisher.

As for FF, is it just me or is Marvel trying fit Spidey into every team possible? He's on two different Avengers teams and now on FF. Seems like they're trying to do what they did with Wolverine a couple years ago.

Yes, Tangy, the new Venom is
Flash Thompson and he is basically a superpowered merc for the US Goverment
. As for ASM, it has been pretty good. I miss Humberto Ramos' art, though.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the new, redesigned Spider-Slayers, but the arc was an entertaining read. They should drop Spidey from both Avengers books and keep him with the FF (Future Foundation?) because it makes the most sense. He has always been really good friends with FF and his knowledge, some would argue, rivals Reed's.

Gargan's Venom was good while Ellis was writing the T-Bolts, but since then he's just been some blundering villain. I don't really consider him as big a threat as I used to as a kid.

im all for spidey being on the ff. any chance to see him actually use his science smarts is good imo which is why ive liked bigtime so much. its always annoyed me how his intellegence has always been downplayed except for a situation here and there. itll be interesting to see what he can come up with working with reed, susan and the rest of the brain trust they have under their roof.

PP on FF is just second fiddle to Reed when it comes to science. His scientific knowledge is being used to it's utmost in his own book right now. As far as Spidey being on yet another team it's just gotten ridiculous. He'll probably stay on both Avengers teams as long as Bendis is writing them. He's gotten almost as ludicrous as Wolverine as far as popping up in 16 different books goes.
