Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

Saga is a great read. It hits so many layers that the majority of Science Fiction comics (and novels/short stories) fail to hit in creating likable characters and an easy-functioning universe you can just jump right into.

Fiona Staples art is just fantastic, also.

Picked up Saga today from Comic City they had about 25 copies, I really enjoyed it. Also picked up Manhattan Projects, it was better then expected and really looking forward to the series.

Considering the mess that Bendis has made of the Avengers lately and how well the X-Men have been doing since Regenesis that seems like the way to go.
Well...my comic shop ended up being an X store for the Avengers VS X-Men #1 launch.
When is that coming out?

I forgot about it.
The 0 issue is out 3/28 and issue 1 is 4/4 (4/3 if your store is doing the early release).
I'll probably grab it. I don't read very many Marvel comics, but I do like the X-Men, so I'm intrigued by this.

Has it been said what the premise of it is yet?
Avengers is pretty bad. Academy is still a good read.
Avengers started off great. I loved the opening arc with going into the future timestream, but then it just got funky with the Infinity Gauntlet. New Avengers has been "meh" from the start and despite that I still read both :|

Secret Avengers and Avengers Academy, more so Academy, have been stellar from the start.

Not unless you're that one guy with the letter from an issue or two ago. That guy was pissed.

I just started reading Academy (picked up where X-23 came aboard, because X-23 is getting cancelled) and I've still got a "so-so" mind frame of it. As long as Laura is in it though, I'll probably follow it.

I agree with you on both accounts. The future timestream stuff is what I want more off. It was cool to see them connect it with S.H.I.E.L.D. I usually love any story dealing with the Infinity Gauntlet but that arc was just okay. I was just sick of the Hood magiclly finding ways to get his powers back. Still waiting for a proper Infinity Gauntlet arc.

Didn't read that letter, I'll go back and check it out. I will admit it hasn't been as good as it used to be, but hopefully it'll pick up. I would suggest reading the first arc at least. It did a great job introducing these new characters.

Avengers Academy seems to be the go to book for all the young heroes. The Initiative kids were just featured in the last issue, Runaways are coming up, and various other young heroes like X-23, Justin from Sentinel and She-Hulk (Lyra) are all in this book. But they seem to be focusing on the orginal members the most.

Anybody got any good tips on where to score cheap bags, boards, and long boxes? Amazon and local shops both seem really expensive.

He goes off on how the writer is using the comic as a way of furthering his political beliefs and ideals. The response was well written and articulate, but that fan was upset at the way it had been going with the homosexuality and stuff.

I'm still learning the characters names and all, and their backgrounds, but I'm really only reading for X-23.

So he was upset that homosexuality is in it? I think it's warranted topic to include in such a book. It's not like it's being promoted as a homosexual comic for shock factor. It's been handled well, even Strikers alleged abuse when he was young was delt with sensitivity. I used to hate the character but once you learn why he acts the way he does I sympathize with him.

Like I said, hopefully it picks up. Feels like the last few issues have been them standing around talking with a few fights thrown in.

They all went up across the board. Comic shops are usually the best bet...maybe you can work out a deal if you buy a bigger amount of supplies.

I bought 1,000 bags and boards from a shop and they gave me 20% off.

Has Spider-Man or any other comics had a good jumping in point recently?

I haven't gotten comics for a few months now and feel like getting back into it now.

you should check into spiderman now hes going to up against the sinister 6 again but this time hes got all these new tech dealys hes going to use to defeat them. id go back a bit with spiderman to back when he first got hired to work at that lab. its cool to see him actually use his brain to create things to help him fight people.

scarlett spider is worth reading as well.
Is it the latest issue of Spider-Man that's a good jumping in point?

Is Scarlett Spider in the middle of a story currently?
scarlett spider is only 3 issues in its
kaine
back from the dead with a normal body.

the latest spiderman is just about doc oc unveiling his latest plan which is pretty cool and from here on spiderman goes after him and the sinister 6.

ill have to look through my files to figure out the issue number where he gets the horrizon labs job but alot of interesting things happen from then to now( spider island mainly ).

id also suggest picking up the black panther run where he takes over for daredevil very great read with an awesome ending.

I believe 648 would be a good issue to start at. It has a quick run down of where Spidey is at and launches you into the current Peter Parker state of things and I believe the end of that book does have him getting the Horizon job.

Just finished reading Supergirl (New 52) so I'm caught up. It's OK so far. I'm going back to read Superman now since their story overlaps. It's nowhere near as good as the new Teen Titans which I am enjoying quite a bit so far. The characters are interesting enough that I wish some of them had their own series.

I hate all of you. I borrowed a couple issues of Avengers Academy from a buddy. I know have to locate a full run of the series up til now. You all suck.

I thought avengers academy was terrible...

I'm mainly interested in seeing this upcoming event where avengers goes up against x-men..it's supposed to be the biggest event of the year..

Source? Latest issue of Game Informers says it all.

Anyone read the finale to Kick Ass 2?
I thought the second series was pretty good but the ending was beyond anti-climatic. Pretty disappointed and now I have no choice but to wait a year before Kick Ass 3 shows up.
That disappoints me.
This will really disappoint you:

avangers academy started out with alot of promise now its just another dull read . the bit with quicksilver and finesse were very interesting. id still like to see her do something with the taskmaster.

im also wondering if furys kid will end up with his own series and how come his other son didnt have the same abilities.

I dunno, I still really love Avengers Academy. It's one of the most consistent Marvel titles month in and month out.

Avengers vs X-Men #0 starts the event out on the right foot. Can't wait for next week.

More solid issues from Morning Glories and Walking dead this week. Also jumped into I, Vampire since it's in a crossover event with a book I do read (Justice League Dark) and I must say that I can't believe I missed I, Vampire until now. The pencils and colors are just awesome.

Glad to here Avengers vs X-men is starting good, I'm going to follow the series. I finally caught up to the walking dead and looking forwarded to the road to 100.

Before Watchmen...what a joke. I'm surprised they waited this long to bring it out and not closer to when movie released.

I'm actually excited about a few of these. The ones I'm mainly interested in Rorschach and The Comedian since I'm a big fan of Brian Azzarrello and I always enjoy art by Lee Bermejo and JG Jones. So I think I'm sold on those. The others...not so much. Though Adam Hughes interiors might sell me on Dr. Manhattan. I'm just not sure what JMS we are going to get for these books...

Judging by his recent works (which isn't much like Superman: Earth One), I would guess the bland JMS. Thor was just about the last good thing he did.

God I would hope not. I could picture him having Dr. Manhattan walk around the world trying to find his place in it.

Ugh.

I don't know if that was meant as a joke or not, but it was funny.

I think he just became irrelevant. Not that many people cared about Daken when he was a Dark Avenger or when he had his own series that nobody bought.

Bought Avengers Vs Xmen #0 and #1. Not bad, but I'll be really annoyed and disappointed if they end up teaming up in the end and/or becoming friends.
