big shock, they're making Piper wrestle with a shirt on tonight.
I think it was because (1) Lugar couldn't wrestle. He was all appearance; no wrestling skill, and no mic skills (ever seen the interview where he "jobbed to a t-shirt"?). The "Lex Express" nonsense was totally fabricated, and the fans didn't buy it. He was popular as a good guy, but kinda like putting the World title on Kane: the fans may enjoy it, but they won't be hot for it, and they won't turn out in droves to see it.
You have to understand that Vince brought Lugar in to jumpstart the WBF; even before he started working for Vince, Vince knew better than to put Lugar in the ring. When the WBF failed (who'da thunk it?), Vince had a wasted investment (Lugar) on his hands). He had to put him in the ring.
There's an interesting parallel between Cena and Lugar, in the sense that (1) both were forced down the throats of fans regardless of their protests, (2) neither are very good in the ring. Unlike Lugar, Cena is a proven merchandise seller (and let's be honest with ourselves: if Steven Hawking could sell as much merchandise as John Cena, Vince wouldn't hesitate to put the strap on Hawking), and can talk.
Cena's real test will be his match with K-Fed. They're showing themselves to be smart by giving K-Fed two months to learn the ropes (not enough, by any means, but at least it wouldn't be like throwing Maria or Candance Michelle out there the week after winning the Diva Search). Now, if they could just book angles with their *goddamned wrestlers* that far in advance, they'd be making better progress. Cena's best matches were with capable wrestlers (HHH, Edge); let's see how he does with a dude that has less in-ring experience than Jackie Gayda. "Bowling shoe ugly," indeed.
I like the Eugene turn, even though he's still going to be mentally retarded. I wish he would drop the gimmick and go for a "shooter" kinda Dean Malenko calm and calculated merciless mat wrestler kinda dude. But, I guess they gotta have characters they identify with, so he's gotta be a retard.
Am I being conspiratorial in thinking that the WWE's "Smackdown Your Vote" campaign is conspicuous by its absence this year? Is it somehow related to the fact that the Democrats are going to pull a major upset tomorrow, easily taking the House of Representatives and *justmaybe* the Senate? Or am I just being paranoid? Perhaps they're trying to save money?
Demolition Man, that Kerry quote in your signature is 100% classless. I hope you're under 18 (and thus unable to vote) if you are foolish enough to think that what came out of Kerry's mouth is precisely what he intended to say.
Genocidal wins the prize of calling out the Dusty booking. It didn't register with me (I didn't see SD) until you mentioned that.
I

ing NEED to find out who the bald dude sitting in the front row in the goddamned pink nylon parka (hel-LO 1992!!!) is. He's at EVERY pro wrestling show I've ever been to, with his wife (in the matching neon green parka); he's often seen chatting it up with wrestlers, bookers (like Tom Pritchard when he worked for the WWF), and going backstage. It gets under my skin that I can't figure out who he is. It's possible that he used to work for WWE; the last ROH show I was at he was wearing a WWE-logo embroidered oxford (with the sleeves cut off - look, even if you *have* the arms for sleeveless gear - which this guy certainly does not - don't

ing do it. At all, dude).
I hate Cryme Tyme (news to no one), but JTG has a *ton* of charisma. Shadd Gaspard, OTOH, will be gone by this time next year. JTG will be IC Champ.
~ I've seen the Luger blooper film, in fact I think I posted it here a long time ago. The question is have you seen the video with Luger jobbing to the shirt meshed with the Sheik's video?
~ I thought Luger started out in the WCW as a horsemen no less. While he may have been brought in for the WBF (God, the WBF...) I think Vince knew he could wrestle and planned on using the WBF as a means of getting Luger over with the fans. Part of me wants to believe that Vince wanted Luger to be his new top guy, but fortunately the fans just wouldn't have it, and repeatedly sided with Bret Hart.
~ The only way Eugene can ever do anything at this point is to be masked and repacked, or to go to TNA and simply laugh at WWE and wrestle as Nick Dinsmore.
~ As for Demo man, while I don't hate hate him (of course) he is an idiot, and sadly there's just no way around that. Don't be too shocked at his Kerry quote sig
~ Urrr... which one is Shad & which one is JTG... I just haven't paid that close of attention. All I know is one is much bigger than the other.
