Dragon Age: Inquisition - E3 TRAILER

I would if it was available. I keep checking gamestop to see if it's restocked....no dice. I even tweeted Aaryn Flynn when the delay was announced, asking if more of these would be produced, no response. I still think $170 is too much, but I really want it. I'll keep an eye out.

WIthin the last 2 months I played both DA:O and DA2 for the first time on PC. I loved Origins and borderline hated DA2. I think I have to wait on reviews before I commit to this, I don't have a lot of faith in Bioware anymore after playing DA2 and also after having finished ME3.

Hey, here's something to throw that extra $100 at. The $100 uber edition strategy guide!!

http://www.primagames.com/games/dragon-age-inquisition/feature/dragon-age-inquisition-inquisitors-edition-just-announced

Look, I love-love limited edition bull crap. But even I have my limits and this is on the outside of those limits. Nifty, sure, but not $70 more the the hardcover guide nifty.
well, there has the be a audience out there for it. probably those people who loves the lore in dragon age games hardcore style to spend $100 on a guide. that is like the price of 2 copies of dragon age game almost.

I can totally understand your feelings on DA 2, but I really liked the party overall better in 2 than in Origins. Allistair, Leiliana, and Morrigan were the only 3 I cared about in Origins and the only 3 I used unless I was forced to use someone else. Meanwhile I rather enjoyed everyone in the DA 2 party minus Fenris. I tolerated the elf girl as Tali 2.0 but loved the rest of the crew (played as a Warrior so I got Bethany instead of the brother.)

It's just the DA 2 cast was saddled by an inferior-written story featuring a merged Anders/Justice, and the ME 1 syndrome of all the dungeons being one of 3 basic layouts.

If the DLC for DA 2 ever goes on sale for PC, which it almost never does for any Bioware game, I would highly recommend playing it as it's the best parts of DA 2, unless you hate Felicia Day (who is the star of the 2nd DLC.)

I also preferred the DA2 party members overall. In Origins I really only liked Morrigan and Shale, the others I found a bit bland. (The DLC was an improvement on the base game with some great characters like Nathaniel Howe and Sigrun.) In DA2 everyone was really distinctive and memorable. I didn't like how Anders went from devil-may-care type of guy to super serious (for legitimate story reasons, but still).

I preferred the party members in 1 over 2 but that wasn't my biggest gripe about the second game.  The story was so much worse in 2 imo.  The story in the first game is at an epic level, if you win you save the entire world.  It was a proper epic feeling fantasy tale that goes to heights the second game doesn't even come close to reaching.  It reminded me a little of Mass Effect 1 and 2.  I actually prefer the story in ME 1 to ME 2 because of similar reasons.  In ME 1 I felt the story had a much more epic feel, more like a battle for the entire fate of the galaxy type of thing.  In ME 2 it felt like all you were doing were missions to prepare yourself for the third game (collecting up your party members and then once you've done that time to buy the third game!).  And while I loved ME 2 and the party members were really interesting and cool it just felt kind of like small potatoes to me compared to ME 1.

To sum this up, I just hope DA:I gives us much more of a "World vs Blight/Dragons vibe than DA 2 did.

That's funny because part of the reason I love ME2 so much is that I'm 100x more interested in the squadmates and their stories/interactions with Shepard than in the overarching Reaper plot. When people complain that "ME2 didn't even need to happen because it was only about gathering allies and didn't advance the plot!", I'm like, yeah, that's why it's so great. :)

Hmm yeah I mean I liked some of that stuff in ME 2 I guess I have just always been a huge fan of "savior of the universe" RPG's. I think that's why I like Star Wars so well, the stakes don't get any bigger than that. I don't mind if part of an epic RPG deals with companions and their personal stories I just don't want the entire game to be that, which is just about what both ME 2 and DA 2 are.

New trailer is up, very story heavy.  Lots of Morrigan sightings.

21 Skill Trees with over 200 abilities and the ability to customize your own weapons.

Welcome fuck ing back Bioware.

Dragon Age 3 looks to be shaping up to be one amazing experience.

Ho-lee-crap!  I completely missed Hawke in the trailer!   If that isn't awesome, unexpected and more than welcomed, I don't know what is.  Who was that guy that Marian Hawke was with at that point?  It was a Warden, from the armor.  Alistair?

and, regarding Morrigan....

She's clearly fighting WITH you, so that's great, and she's shape shifting.  Shape shifting was a power in Origins, wasn't it?  Thats not something new for her, I don't believe.  The question remains....where is Flemeth?

Probably was.  Mark Laidlaw confirmed via Twitter that is *NOT* your Warden from Origins.  Could be a new guy named Frank.  Who knows.  Who cares?   I'm just happy that Hawke makes a real appearance.

Errrg, I'm starting to think the last-gen version of this game may not satisfy me.

Gotta love your gif's, Ryuu.

Yeah, I feel like having this game on the last gen consoles is a bit of a disservice.  This game looks to be truly special.

I love how Hawke pauses and raisers her arm like "The fuck  is that?!?!"

Gotta love your gif's, Ryuu.
I stole them from that hive of scum and villainy NeoGAF. :) Always great GIFs there.

The focus on environments and combat before was nice, but this trailer... story stuff, dialog, cutscenes, returning characters... BioWare is pushing my fan buttons here bigtime.

Trailer is very cool, but it's up to Bioware to prove it to me first, no more blindly believing their games will be great. But if this does end up being great, what a few months it could be for rpg fans (DA:I and Witcher 3 within months of each other!).

Yeah I love you guys and your fanboyism. This (along with Halo) is my favorite series in gaming/entertainment and you guys make it so easy to keep up with the DA:I news so keep doing what you do and fanboy it up on the series as much as your little hearts desire.

This thread is for people who enjoyed Dragon Age 2! :D/

Well, I think I'm spent from seeing the trailer and the gameplay footage.

A million lines of dialogue, the most in any Bioware game? *schwing*

200 possible options in the gameplay? *schwing*

150 hours for a completionist gameplay? *schwing*

The tactical map view? *schwing*

Looks like Bioware learned all of their lessons from DA2 and ME2 + ME3 and seems to have this one right.

I would love to go X1 on this game out of the gate, though I don't want to toss out $400 - $500 for a MS console in the first version/non-revision and get a surprise like we did with the X360.  Since we also have mandatory installs like the PS3 and can't upgrade the HDD unlike the PS3 & PS4, I'd rather wait out and get a X1 with a 1TB HDD in it, like the COD: AW bundle system coming out, or a revised X1 with a 1TB HDD.

I honestly don't think there's that much to be worried about - and believe me, you won't find anyone on this site more affected by the ME3 debacle than me.

I keep trying to keep my hype grounded by reminding myself of all of the failures and missteps, but it's to the point now where I can't even allow that line of reasoning to affect how great this game is looking. I don't think it's even close to fair to compare what BioWare/EA did with Mass Effect to what will happen with this game anymore, with all that's been revealed.

tl;dr: it's safe to buy into the hype, guys. It officially has the X stamp of approval.

Yeah, I am convinced that this will be the best dragon age to date, and possibly the best bioware RPG since the original mass effect. My PS4 needs it NOW. Until then, Shadow of Mordor.

To enumerate, the action looks well placed and the mix of granularity of control vs. visceral action looks really damn good. I'm excited as hell for the customization and crafting options and really happy we have race choice again. I'm glad that they're taking a stance on characters having gender preferences and I really like the scope of the story/plot. I'm skeptical on their time to complete claim but it's looking like it will take me 60+ hours to do a completionist playthrough and I'm very excited.

Mass Effect 3? Never heard of that game. I refuse to even state that game's existence, that's how annoyed that game had me. I played Dragon Age 2, kinda meh. I played SWTOR, very meh mmo. I was on the fence about anything Bioware.

This game though oh good god. Take all my money now, looks fantastic. It seems to have that deep story with the combination of a deep tactical gameplay system. I been looking for a good WRPG since Skyrim and this should fill the void.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning says hi. :) Also Deus Ex: Human Evolution Director's Cut if you didn't play the original.

Considering 98% of Mass Effect 3 was excellent (lot of that % is multiplayer), I have to strongly disagree with that notion.

Played both of them actually. I have not completed KOA but Deus Ex I have (really loved Deus Ex HR). Something about KOA did not grip me.

I just explored the map on the DA website and wow, that map looks huge.

Nice. Didn't even know you could do that on the site. Good stuff. I am leaving it up in another tab right now because the music is awesome.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/26/dragon-age-inquisitions-co-op-multiplayer-is-all-about-loot

edit: Just the FAQs, ma'am:

http://www.dragonage.com/#!/en_US/news/multiplayer-faq

Will Dragon Age: Inquisition have multiplayer?

· Yes, the multiplayer mode in Dragon Age: Inquisition will feature action-packed, four-player cooperative quests separate from the single-player open-world story.

What does the multiplayer in Dragon Age: Inquisition include?

· Dragon Age multiplayer is an action-packed dungeon-crawling four-player co-op experience that lets gamers to play with their friends for the first time in the Dragon Age franchise.

· Following the success of Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode, Dragon Age multiplayer includes fast-paced matches requiring strategic team gameplay while adding Inquisition's tactical class combat and extensive loot and crafting systems.

Was multiplayer (MP) mode created by the same team that made single-player (SP)?

· MP and SP were developed side by side. The multiplayer environment gave us a perfect opportunity for testing combat, creatures, and encounter design, and since the two environments are near-identical, every improvement spread to both parts of the game.

Will playing MP be required to get the full-game experience?

· No. The SP campaign is separate from MP. In SP, you have the support of three specialists who can send agents to missions. MP characters are agents. At the start of a MP mission, you will hear one of the specialists explaining the goal of your mission.

Is MP going to affect my endings in SP?

· No. Absolutely not. Our goal with Dragon Age multiplayer is not to affect your SP campaign. We simply want to give our fans the chance to play with their friends for the first time in the Dragon Age universe.

Will MP have in-game purchases?

· Yes. Platinum is the name of the currency that you can buy with money. Our philosophy for MP—and we are adamant about it—is that you can buy anything with gold coins, which is the currency you get from dungeon-crawling. There will be no pay wall.

Why did you decide to add MP?

· We wanted to give Dragon Age fans the opportunity to play with their friends for the first time in the franchise.

There was a leak of DAI achievements with exclusive MP achievements. Is that the case?

· There will be no exclusive MP achievements. Achievements are one way to keep players engaged, but with Dragon Age multiplayer, we have other ways to improve engagement. We will have a full challenge system implemented at launch, letting you pursue and track dozens of different challenges. Completing a challenge may also give you a reward. The challenge system will also be used to implement weekly operations. Every week, we will launch a new operation. Complete the operation, and you will receive a reward.

Will people who pay to get that extra edge online?

· First and foremost, our goal is to make a fun dungeon-crawling experience that you can play with your friends. There will be no pay walls in Dragon Age multiplayer. Everything is accessible with gold coins. You can use premium currency, but you don't have to.

How long has your team been working on MP?

· Over two years. After Mass Effect 3 MP's success, we created a special team with veterans from the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises. Our lead MP designer and lead online programmer have been on the Dragon Age franchise since Dragon Age: Origins. The addition of designers, programmers, artists, audio, QA, and production from Mass Effect 3 MP will help us ship a really fun co-op game that suits our franchise.

Why four-player co-op instead of a full MP campaign?

· In Dragon Age: Inquisition, we wanted to focus on five key aspects: Open World, Story, Characters, Visuals, and Inquisition. We also have a new engine (Frostbite 3), and we had to create many new tools to support the huge amount of cinematics and localization that a BioWare title requires. A full MP campaign would have been another layer of complexity, and we decided it wasn't the right time for the franchise to take on that feature.

How is crafting different between SP and MP?

· Dragon Age multiplayer is about mastering the fight with friends in a party-based adventure, and crafting is a key element of progression. Through crafting, you will be able to create new items that will make you better at fighting. There is some overlap between SP and MP recipes, and some are exclusive to one mode or the other. Crafting also lets you create new armors. If you craft a set of Alchemist Armor, you unlock that character, who can then open up a lot of possibilities on MP missions. You can also craft new armors for characters you already own. They will give your character a new special look but no extra stats. In SP you gather materials through exploration. In MP you salvage items to get them.

What kind of loot can I get in a dungeon?

· You will find gold coins and items (not potions), and at the end of a mission, you can use gold coins to buy chests. They will contain a variety of different items (weapons, weapon mods, potions, runes, armor, etc.). We are developing Dragon Age multiplayer with quick engagement in mind. We want it to be easy to play a round, acquire new loot, and jump back into the action. Now that you have new cool weapons and armor, why wouldn't you try another mission?

Is any sort of app planned for Dragon Age multiplayer?

· BioWare understands that players can expend a lot of time going through their inventory and crafting new items. We also understand that when you are online with your friends, you want to get into action quickly. With these needs in mind, we developed the Inquisition HQ. There, you will be able to access all of your MP characters and their inventory. You will be able to change your loadout, salvage items, and craft new items. You can do all that on the go because it will run on PCs, tablets, and smartphones. We will give more details about Inquisition HQ in the following months.

Do I get to transfer items from SP to MP? Or vice versa?

· In Dragon Age: Inquisition, you are in charge of the Inquisition, and in Dragon Age multiplayer, you control a few agents of the Inquisition. There is no connection between SP items and MP items on purpose. We wanted to make sure that the two economies are separate, which will allow a stronger progression in both SP and MP. If you play Dragon Age multiplayer, you will learn how each class plays a different role in combat, how different skills work, and how your party composition can give you a tactical advantage on the battlefield. This knowledge is transferable to SP, but items are not.

How do I unlock new characters?

· In Dragon Age multiplayer, changing the party composition with new characters can be the difference between failing and succeeding. You can unlock new characters by crafting their armor. Crafting materials are acquired by salvaging items such as weapons and weapon mods. You may also get a new armor in a chest that you can buy with gold coins. Getting a new character is definitely a goal to be pursued on Dragon Age multiplayer.

How many MP characters will be available at launch?

· Twelve characters, four for each class (warrior, rogue, and mage), will be available at launch. Characters from the same class can be very different. For example, let's take a Legionnaire and a Reaver. A Legionnaire can handle a weapon and shield and plays the role of a classic tank. Generating aggro and soaking up damage are his main role in a party. The Reaver is a two-handed warrior who focuses more on dealing damage and generating aggro, and her skills can buff herself or the entire party. The Legionnaire and the Reaver are both warriors, but depending on your party composition and your style, one may be more suitable than the other.

Can I trade items?

· No. Dragon Age multiplayer won't have an auction house or another system to transfer items between players. If you are unhappy with an item, you can salvage it and get crafting materials. Better weapons give better crafting materials. You can use these materials craft new items in-game or at your Inquisition HQ.

What is the level cap for MP?

· The level cap for Dragon Age multiplayer is 20. Once you hit level 20, you can promote your character, which will give you an extra attribute point for your MP characters. Promoting a character will also give you more Prestige points for the leaderboards.

Are you going to release new characters?

· Dragon Age multiplayer will launch with 12 MP characters, and we will release new characters after launch.
