Eternal Sonata - Gen. Discussion + Info

I'm absolutely on the fence about this one. I want the faceplate, but It's $60. It looks unique and fun, but it's $60. It's nice and short and has brief dungeons, but Halo 3 comes out next week too.. and so many other games to play this winter..
No, its not. Games do NOT come out on Monday.
It SHIPS today, it will not be in 99% of the stores today.
It will be out TOMORROW.
yea, your right. Went to gamestop after class and the guy said tomorrow.

Hmm that is weird, thursday my GS already had the copies of the games. I would have went in today to see if it was in but I was sick so I won't go into until tommorow.

Some stores got it in Saturday and could sell today, however Sunday being a non-shipping day for just about every shipping company, MOST copies are going to be coming Tuesday. I was unfortunately a little late to get my copy today, the other person that pre-ordered got there before me. =\
Yeah, I'm glad I hate Halo. Lots of games coming out, like this one, and it gives me more time to play them!
Same here - but I just started Blue Dragon (excellent so far - 8 hours in) so I think I can wait on Eternal Sonata for a bit... I'll definitely play it eventually, but I may wait on a price cut for it (especially if I don't get in on the faceplate when it first comes out). I may check my local GS to see if they have an extra faceplates and offer to buy a copy if they do, Otherwise, I'll wait for sure...

In any case, with all the Halo business it is a good time to start up long single-player 360 game. There won't be much Live action on anything but Halo for a while ;).

Question for anyone knowledgable on this subject...

I know Tri-Crescendo is developing it, yet it looks strikingly similar to Radiata Stories in its art design (developed by Tri-Ace). Think it's a coincidence or did some staff members jump/switch ship?

Can anyone post some gamertags with this game being played? As far as GameFaqs goes (yeah, yeah...but its the best place to know if the game is REALLY out), its not out yet. I have yet to see this leaked either.

Just started the 3rd disc of Blue Dragon...gotta finish that game up!

West coasters should be playing this game. I know I will be tomorrow, since it is on a truck on it's way to my local Gamestop.

I will be picking up my copy tommorow at noon. So glad I didn't make the drive to GS today.

Also I really need to finish Bioshock before this game but it probably won't happen.

Holy shit, I did not know that it was a multiple disc game!! How many hors have you logged into it?!

I preordered mine gamestop.com just to make sure I would get the faceplate. The free two day shipping helped too. I think I will be selling the faceplate though, to make the game much cheaper. Even though it's an amazing piece.

Yeah I am trying to decide on wether to sell my faceplate or not. I think if I get Chopin or Allgretto I will keep it but all the others I will sell. It also depends on how much they are going for on ebay or here on CAG.

Last I looked they were going for about $30, some upwards of $50 though. I assume they will drop a little with the release of the game though.

That is a pretty good review. I really liked the demo but there is so much coming out right now I'm not sure I want to invest a bunch of hours in a RPG. Might be a good one to pick up for free and try it out in between Halo sessions! :bouncy:

The amount of good games coming out is a gift and a curse, and you know some very good games are going to get slept on.

I played about 45 minutes of the game and love it. I am taking a break only to play some EDF2017 with a friend for an hour or so. I can't wait to play more.

Just got mine delivered from UPS--- for those who did the pre-order online (I did mine about 3 weeks ago) looks like the faceplates are backordered, I didn't get mine with the order, and looking at the order page confirms that it did not ship.

Should have went in store...

Just picked up mine + the Chopin faceplate. But since the store previously gave me a 19th release date, I slotted today to do my side-projects :\

Doing everything, maxing everything, takes around 50 hours or so. My guess is it's three discs because of all the FMV's.
How is the dubbing in this game? Also, is there an option to switch to subs? Kinda curious.
You can switch the VO to Japanese and keep the subs-- the delivery of the lines in English doesn't always match the subbing perfectly.

I got this game + the chopin faceplate and I put about an hour into and so far I have loved every minute of it. It is kinda interesting how it is such a dark story in a bright world.

I was curious about this too.

After putting over 60 hours into Blue Dragon, I'm craving another solid RPG for 360. Problem is I hated Star Ocean 3 and Radiata Stories.

Tri-Cresendo did the Music for Radiata and the like. But this time around they built the whole game themselves with no help from Tri-Ace. However it wouldn't shock me if some employees jumped ship.
Holy crap. I thought MGS cutscenes were long...
Yeah the intro is long. From reviews though, it seems like the ending is even longer-- 45 minutes by what OXM said.

I just know that I am going to have to pee real bad when that cutscene comes along. Also how can this game fit on one disc when Blue Dragon is on 3 or 4? hmmm.....

You can pause cutscenes. Guess that was a no-brainer option when they decided to put in 20 minute cutscenes heh.

Awesome idea on there part, now I don't have prepare as if I am gonna be gone for hours before every cutscene.

Blue Dragon has CG FMVs in HD. Eternal Sonata uses game engine graphics. Mystery solved. :D

Ah..... Well Eternal Sonata still looks better so I say more shame to BD.

I don't have the game yet, but it's on it's way to me. :)

Question for those who are playing it now AND have played the demo. How far into the game was the demo? I loved the demo, but of course..there's not much info on the game. Like what's going on, who is who...more about the menus/moves/etc. Do they have a lot of these tutorials? I ask this because there's always that one or 2 things in RPG games that I never pick up until I learn it in a tutorial, ..but the gameplay from the demo makes it seem pretty simple.

cant wait for this game to ship, i ordered it last friday but the shipping estimate is on the 21st :cold:

edit:woo the game shipped today!

My copy will be going back to gamestop.. the disc has a weird discoloration and has some minor scratches and it came from a sealed case and went straight into my 360.. my 360 froze a couple times when booting the game.. I think something is wrong with the disc.

Hmm it had some trouble booting my disc also. However my Xboxs graphics were also corrupted so I think my 360 is dying and that was the cause of the problem.

The demo level is pretty much the first level of the actual game. But they tweaked the demo like they did with BioShock to give you a little more than the actual game would for that level.

The only 2 tutorials I've seen in my 2 hours of playing (1 hour of that was probably watching cutscenes) was just for the battle system, and took less than 5 minutes to complete both of them (nothing you couldn't pick up playing on your own anyway).

Ok cool :)
Do they explain the light/dark moves? Because I think I almost understand it, but I kinda don't. It looks like you have to be certain amount of spaces to show you what move is available at the time? And is there any specific reason on using light moves or dark moves..besides of the fact of what the move does?

But I'll admit, everything does seem really simple which is great!

They explain it, but the concept is pretty simple so they don't go anything beyond that. (yet anyway)

I don't think there's really any specific reason to use light or dark. So far the healing spells I've seen were light only, but that's all I noticed so far. Dark attacks like Piu Grave look like they would do a crap-load more fo damage than a light one based on the visuals, but they don't seem to do any more damage than light ones.

As you keep playing and raising your party level, the system changes pretty dramatically. Even at party level 2 (the level you're at in the demo) the combat gets much faster.

Protip: If you're just starting make sure to take a lot of pictures of the first boss you can--- for one reason or another it seems glitched out-- I've got well over 60k gold from selling them.

damn I just deleted a bunch of crappy ones of him. I didn't even realize what the hell the photos were for untill a couple minutes ago.

this game has some long ass cut scenes. That monologue about waves and humans just came out no where. Now I see how the game is preachy.
The Japanese voices are best to use. But both voice sets have equal parts of annoyingness.

The waves and humans bit was more interesting than having to listen to the conversation about taxes...

This is going to be a very long game, heh.

Anyone make it to the
Fort
yet? I just spent an hour in here and I have no idea what to do-- the rest of the dungeons have been like 10-15 minutes tops to get to the boss, now I'm scratchin' my head as to what to do.
