Man, the difficulty in Chapter 8 of Rogue Galaxy just shot up like... a lot. I'm disappointed, because I've got two good, maxed subweapons for Jaster and two maxed main weapons for Kisala, but I'm not high level enough to use the resulting weapon. I cannot wait to see what it is.
What happens in chapter 8 that's so hard? It's been a while since I was there. I don't remember anything mid-game being hard except one boss fight (where you need to use a single character) and the Gladius towers portion of one chapter.

I intended to do nothing but play all these amazing games I have but never get to play, but instead I had to go to work. >_<

glad that's over. time to go to EB and not want any games there for the B2G1 free. It's great having one right around the corner, it sucks that it serves the entire gaming community at UW, since there's never any thing there.

The enemies just seem a lot more difficult in these areas. I went to the Vedan sewers first, but that was a bit too much for my characters at the time. That coupled with the increased amount of time it takes to level up now = harder.

I think I'm about 16 hours in now.
Am I a bad gamer for intending to play rogue galaxy all afternoon and instead being sucked into The Godfather on Wii?
Don't worry, that's what I did today.

Boss of Chapter 6 just kicked my ass. First phase was of average difficulty, but then having no choice but to fight with a character you've never used before was rather tough.

Oh, yeah, that fight was all about blocking and then punishing every time he stops or has to reload or something. As long as you don't get hasty, it's an easy fight.
So in Maverick Hunter X, I just got two weapons (tornado and flame thrower)...pretty sweet.
This Maverick Hunter X talk reminds me that the game had some anime OVA that unlocks when you finish the game. I know I never watched it though... maybe I should...

I'm having a bit of trouble...I think I'm going to look into the location of the power ups to make things a little easier.

Unfortunately I wont get paid allowance till August. All I am really playing is Pokemon Fire Red on my DS Lite, Wii sports for about 30 mins a day, and some Guitar Hero II.

Yeah, I lost that fight a few times because I got impatient and my hand was cramping from all the blocking ;). The problem with Deego is his 3rd hit attack animation is SO DAMN SLOW that the guy will pummel you if you trigger it. So you need to do 1 or 2 hits max, then block again. It takes a while but it is easy if you stick to this.

But, like I said earlier guys, get used to playing with different characters. You'll thank me at the end ;).

Go cut some grass. Excuse me as I get all nostalgic. I remember the summer of '96, I cut grass, reffed soccer games, and worked with a catering company to save money for a new fangled PlayStation. I ended up with a Sega Saturn but I wasn't gonna let a measly allowance get in my way. \

I'm playing DOA 4 (trying to get better) and Halo 2 on the 360 until Halo 3 comes out. That about all I have time for besides my DS (been playing Phoenix Wright).

Soon. I've got to put this blowtorch to this big head and then I'll be ready to throw down. If not DOA, we should play some Gears.

Anyways, to get back on topic, besides our binge playing of Viva Pinata, my sons and I busted out the Xbox version of Star Wars Battlefront. I've already played the PS2 version to death but since I have a 360 I thought I'd try BC. What is very nice indeed is that the damn drive is quiet when playing original Xbox games. I did not know it would be like that - VERY nice. I was thinking that I'd never play the couple of regular Xbox games I've collected since I didn't want to play with all the noise. Now I can play them no problem. (Star Wars Republic Commando, Doom 3, Psychonauts, Half-Life 2, Fable Lost Chapters, and a few others, all bought on the super-cheap ;)).

I was prepared to be blown away by the much better graphics of the Xbox version (since I've always been told Xbox > PS2) but I really didn't notice any difference. Perhaps the frame rate is more stable though, not sure... One thing is for sure, though, I can't wait for a next-gen SW Battlefront. THAT will be my first big online game (for whatever reason, it is the only shooter I can get into at all and I played it online on the PS2 quite a bit).

I know one game that I have will be much better graphics-wise though - Psychonauts. I played part way through the PS2 version and was getting nauseous from the low frame rate. I've heard the Xbox version is much more solid. Maybe I'll bust that out this summer before any other big games hit.

I just have to say that Yggdra Union is also hard. But they are nice enough to let you keep your exp if you die and have to replay an hour-long mission, which makes things much more bearable. Hell of a lot of strategy that they introduce you to piecemeal, I'm enjoying it so far.

That's my portable gaming now that I had to give up on Mario & Luigi (Superstar Saga). I just lost interest in it, the additional abilities didn't do much for me, so it was getting repetitive, especially in the for-some-reason annoying overworld travel. Up on eBay they go (have Partners in Time to, heard that's not as good as the first, so screw it)!

Interesting... according to the one review on Play-Asia, apparently Metal Slug Anthology in Japan had some changes made to it that make it more "arcade perfect." Hopefully this means that any alleged input lag is gone. Metal Slug 6 isn't in this version, but the version on Metal Slug Anthology in the US kinda sucked anyway. I'm waiting for more people to post impressions of the import version.

I already got screwed once by buying the Wii version, so I wasn't going to blindly buy the PS2 version when it came out in the US... perhaps this will justify that.

Rogue Galaxy is some addicting stuff. Really preys on the completionist. I've been running around the jungle planet for an hour maxing out weapons and combining them and maxing them ad infinitum. This game could take a while.

I'm onto the second planet now, and those are some amazing graphics. Blown away. If the PS2 is able to keep turning out quality like that, and the Wii is even more powerful hardware, they should keep on truckin for another 5 years at this "lower end" hardware tier.

Have any of you ever gotten super violently ill right around the time that you started to play a game, or had something else traumatically go wrong, and you just never are able to enjoy the game after that? It's happened to me with The original Mario and Luigi on GBA, and God of War 2, that I can think of immediately. Those two games just make me feel the flu all over again..

Ha, just wait till you get into the revelation flow (some of the ingredients are a pain even towards the end). And the Insectron stadium ;).

The main reason I haven't finished the game is like most other RPG's I feel like I need to get everything done before I complete it and then I put it aside for newer shinier things because it becomes tedious to collect everything. However, I am going to go back and finish since I'm on the final boss. Then I can do some of the extra stuff afterwards and see if I can top off those last few things. Actually, compared to most RPG's it is fairly easy to get 100% on most of the stuff in Rogue Galaxy via normal playthrough if you are careful - the part where you defeat 15-30 (specific amount varies for each one) of every monster being the exception. For example, doing what you are doing with the weapon combos early on will help you maximize that part. I'm still a bit short on that one because I didn't do it so much early on.

By the way I'm somewhere between 80 and 90 hours into the game ;).

I've been playing Guilty Gear XX Accent Core like mad crazy today. My skills have diminished a bit, but I still was able to pick it up and use most of my old strategies without any problem whatsoever. Definitely a necessary purchase if you import shit.

And I ended up ordering Command and Conquer 3 Kane Edition yesterday...

Ok, I found out, there's no limit, but your health has to be full.

I'm at Sigmas final form now...I can get him down to a quarter health. I'm sure I'll beat it tonight.

Now I kind of want to go pick up Powered Up to keep my Mega Man craving satisfied.

Good news. I just found a way to make Halo 2's single player bearable. Play it with another person.

A friend of mine was up for the weekend. When I first got an Xbox, he and I played through Halo 1 Co-Op over that Christmas break. Had a fantastic time. Since I had yet to even play Halo 2 beyond level 2 or so, we put it in and went for it. Beat it this afternoon.

Have to say, with the story ignored and the cliff-hanger ending put behind you, the end of Halo 2 has to be one of the most uninspired games I've ever played. The last parts of Halo 1 were fantastic (
Getting those cores to go critical and then the explosion-laced-Warthog-run was intense
). Halo 2 was horrible (
All we got was a bullet-sponge of a boss and then that's it?! I can't believe that the last segment was even played with the Chief. I expect this type of ending segment with some under-developed NES or SNES game, but not of such a flag-ship name in more recent years
).

That's the end of my 2 1/2 year too late rant.

I dunno... I remember playing Halo 2 with one of my friend's back when it first came out and the co-op was still pretty boring. I think we were playing the bridge level.

Note I said "bearable", not "TONS OF FUN!!!"

Really, we pushed through just to get the story filled in before Halo 3. Although, it would've taken about a 25 second cinema scene to recap all the "drama" that unfolded throughout the course of that game.
Sigma is defeated! I finally beat my first Mega Man game :whistle2:x
Hey! Now go buy Mega Man X Collection!

Speaking of which, I need to see how that looks on the PS3.

Haha, no more games for me right now, out of the 9 PSP games I have, this is the first I beat (all though you cant really "beat" SF Alpha 3 Max)

Is anyone who's done the 3.4 OE process on their PSP awake/wanting to help someone out? I'm so bad with this stuff.

So I destroyed the value of my sealed copy of Castlevania Chronicles yesterday and tore that motha open. Threw that ish in the PS3 and... it looked damn good. The sprites looked a lot cleaner than they did at 480i. The game itself? Really good. It's Castlevania I, except the way it's supposed to be. And the game has an unbelievably good soundtrack.

Probably. There's the arrange version (which I played) which is made more reasonable in terms of difficulty and has a new character sprite for Simon and there's the original version which has the old-school difficulty, so it should be there. I only played through the first two levels though, so no Dracula for me.
Wow. This game is still hard, but at least morale items aren't impossible to find, so you can start each mission off somewhat fresh - morale is basically your health in this game, you lose some whenever you lose a battle, the amount dependent upon the conditions of your loss, and the only way to restore it is with items. Once it's down to 0, your unit dies.

This is probably the most chess-like SRPG I've ever played. And last night I finished battlefield 6 out of 48. Wow. I have to applaud the way they implemented card battling, though. You get cards added to your deck throughout the game, and you can select a certain number to use each battle. You only need your cards to last you through each checkpoint. Once you reach a checkpoint, the cards are all available again.
I asked in the shmup thread but I'll ask here too since this thread is better...is Raiden III worth $20?
I'd say so, it's a solid enough shooter. It's not the best, but 20 bucks isn't much money so I'd say it's worth it. You'll probably get 4-6 hours of entertainment out of it right away, and then more down the line w/ replays and nostalgia factor.

Cool.

I was just wondering because I was surprised at its score on gamerankings. Guess I shouldn't have been though.

MSRP is $29.99 right?

I heard some wal-marts were selling Raiden 3 for $20. Mine was, but i don't like shmups that much.

I LOVE playing PS1 games on the psp. I've got 4 of them on my memory stick already. Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, Soul Blade, and Lunar Silver Star.
