competitive players play a single game for years. they travel to other states and countries to play a game, meeting people within the community and get hype for tournaments.
on the other hand, people who mash buttons for a week and lol before quitting forever are the ones who say they "play for fun."
Pssh, that's not fun, that's work! Haha I get it though, you don't walk into a fighting game thread and poop all over the hardcore fans. I still think that attitude is the reason you only fight the same damn characters over and over though, people follow tier-list like it's an instant win.
I don't even buy RPG's anymore, because I know I'll never finish them. Sometimes you just want to drop in and play for a few minutes and that's where I pick up a fighter.
casuals can appreciate game balance. My friends who play SSFIV for fun like the idea that they can pick whoever they want without being at an obvious disadvantage, aside from a couple of obvious outliers.
In Street Fighter, I want balance; but you take Marvel characters and they're never remotely close to their original power levels. I wouldn't want that as the main version of a fighter, but an exhibition mode would be cool.
I guess that goes with the territory of cut-scenes in most games though; not to mention bullets and fireballs should probably put an adversary down in one hit.
