BTW, Halo 2 was a CE as well.
I made a mistake on that one. Halo 2 is marked "Limited Collector's Edition", But like I said, Microsoft didn't make it too limited or they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
I'll pass on this one -- this isn't a real LE like MGS3 because it isn't from the publisher (i.e. Konami or Squenix).
Actually, it's not a real LE because it's not even called an LE - it's actually called Final Fantasy XII Collector's Edition. That should've been everyone's first clue.

Yup -- good catch. Collector's Edition is marketing speak for "give me more money for stuff you prob. won't need" :)

Any word on if the game is going to be better than the demo that came with DQ8? I really didnt like the demo, but the guy at Gamestop says its going to be "amazing" and that he didnt like the demo either, but the final game is supposed to be a lot better. True or not?

Should be the same as what you played in the Demo. The fighting style is very different and will have to be getting used to.

I pre-ordered this today because they offered 10% extra credit for my trade-ins if I put $5 down on something. Looks like they'll have enough for everyone?

While ppl complain about not being able to find MGS3 LE, I for one loved that -- it was great to see a LIMITED edition that was actually LIMITED. I hate marketers who stick that jargon on products that you can find freakin' anywhere.

MGS3 LE was awesome -- I hope Konami does more of that and other publishers follow. This one, however, ain't much to call home about.
Tell it like it is brotha!:) While I wish there were just a few more LMs for MGS3, I can't say that Konami lied about it being a limited edition unlike most companies.

I felt the same way about the demo and pretty much decided to not get the game. But as I kept reading about the game in previews and saw the trailer, I couldn't help but be impressed. I've blasted the new FF games from going astray from the roots of the series (it's only FF in name these days) but this looks too damn good to pass up.

That tin looks nice... really nice. It's just too bad it only comes with a lame DVD, which will probably have like 15 minutes of content. I think I'll keep my preorder just incase it does become rare/valuable.

Back from the dead!

I was at GameStop and they had samples of what the collector's tin looks like. It's pretty nice but I don't like the way they stack the two DVDs inside the case. They're half stacked on top of each other, making an 8 figure, as both discs are on the same side of the case. The tin has a matte finish to it and the hinges are kind of cheap plastic from what I can tell.

I just paid it off using $10 in old kmart games from the previous drop. So i cant really complain. Still have $250 in credit left after paying off that, Disgaea 2, and Digital Devil Summoner. Thank you MightySlacker, and everyone else who helped keep that thread updated :)
I am guessing it is like the Resident Evil 4 Special Edition PS2 case. Is that what the case is for those who have seen it?
I didnt see the ps2 case but Ive seen the GC one. The crappy red tin for the GC one. This case looks pretty nice but I dont know why we can't have an artbook or guide or some other cool extra besides a CRAPPY DVD

Yes, it's just like that.
anyone know if you can still preorder? the guy at my ebgames said pre-orders were ending in august...
They are still taking deposits. So far, no cut-off date has been said, but they probably will stop sometime in October I would think

I got it preordered and I like the tin but I'm still on the fence if it is worth the extra $10. I might switch my preorder when I pick it up at the end of next month for the plain-Jane FFXII.

Probably because Bradygames is including one in their LE strategy guide.

I reserved the game and limited edition guide. I want to put my last new game on the PS2 for a long time in a special place in my heart when I look back. Special edition all around. Then I can get the other games I have been wanting for cheap and hopefully Guitar Heroes and possibly GoW2. But FFXII looks like my last new game for the PS2, at least for 2006. I am excited.

Now, is this going to be like RE4 for gamecube, where the non-limited edition version case is within the metal case?

I bought the LE at ebgames.com and then cancelled and bought the regular version for $44.99 shipped (free shipping) at Outpost.com
Now, is this going to be like RE4 for gamecube, where the non-limited edition version case is within the metal case?
no its a different case altogether
Now, is this going to be like RE4 for gamecube, where the non-limited edition version case is within the metal case?
No, it is just like the RE4 Premium on PS2.

Its a fully printed metal tin case with integrated transparent plastic inside (in order to show the interior images and to hold the discs and manual). It is not a tin case just to hold the regular edition of the game.

If you look at the picture carefully, you will see that the 2 discs overlap each other during storage. There will be a tiny space between the two if you handle the discs right.

I finally saw the real tin case sample at GS last weekend and it's beautiful. IMO, the choice of artwork is much better than the regular version.

I quickly put $5 down to reserve a copy, just in case ;)

Yeah, I don't like that design at all. I mean aesthetically it looks cool but it just seems like a scratchy nightmare.

Yeah I don't know who designed it, it really looks awful. Too busy looking.

to those who preordered the LE at GS, what is the exact order number in the receipt? just wanna make sure mine has the LE and not the regular one. thanks a bunch.
Anyone's ship yet? I read on gamefaqs that someone received theirs from gamestop.com already.
Probably a lying 14 year old.

yeah my CC was charged already... here's hoping to getting it Monday.

What a great month. Final Fantasy 12, All 6 Star Wars in HD on Cinemax, Gantz phase two, and Zelda. woooooo
Probably a lying 14 year old.
I'm not defending GFAQS or anything but a lot of them took pictures. They had overnight shipping and I'm guessing there a mistake at the warehouse?

I WANT MINES NAO.
Probably a lying 14 year old.
No, people are actually getting them. I've seen a couple people from other forums get them and take pictures to prove it. If I knew they were going to be getting them this early, I would have ordered from GS with overnight.

All the stores have had theirs in-store since Thursday, so it's possible they just shipped out store inventory along with online orders.

Meh I preorded the limited, but found out that next week Circuit City will have this for 38.

I thought this was a GS exclusive?
I thought this was a GS exclusive?
It is. CC will have the regular version for that price.

If you don't care about the extra disc and nicer packaging, that's pretty hot.

If anyone is looking to pick up the non-collector's version early, I saw it yesterday on the shelf at the Perimeter CompUSA in Atlanta. Only a few days early, but I thought someone might be interested. As craptacular as CompUSA is, I'm sure other stores broke the release date.

If you're gonna buy one, buy it on ebay. Once the flood hits you should e able to pick up a regualr copy for like 30.

All these people canceling their CE FFXII orders? guess the market wasn't beneficial. I am pretty sure, you'll be able to buy one off of ebay cheaper than at retail.

Just got back from EB Games and scoped the CE FFXII. To whoever is as nuts like me and stubbornly getting the CE version instead of the regular at CC, although $22 is alot for a tin, the CE case truly is of the highest quality.

The outer tin doesn't feel cheap, it has serious weight to it, and if this makes sense, it has a "matte" metal cover instead of a shiny, fingerprint visible type of metal. You know how the Prey LE feels very cheap and light? Complete opposite. It is a "heavy" metal, even MORE higher quality than the Gears of War tin that is on display at EB. Its very sleek and although I'm still feeling like crap forking over $60, after seeing it, I don't feel so bad.
