is there any big HD DVD releases after bourne? I don't see any, but I want to buy Pirates and there's a good chance it'll be apart of a BOGO

but don't wanna wait too long :\
Stardust?
Probably won't create enough of a blip on the radar to register a BOGO.

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html

Looking at that list, I can't help but feel that you won't see many post-Christmas BOGOs. Of course, that list looks incredibly anemic, and I can't help but wonder if there are more releases coming out in January.

Interesting thoughts from Michael Bay. Is Microsoft trying to destroy both formats to push digital downloads? He also says that Microsoft was behind the Paramount deal (which he probably has way more information that most people on the matter).

What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth.

i'm trying to think what big releases HD DVD could have in Q1 of next year but i can't really think of any, kind of sad

I guess Be Movie and Beowulf may make it at March

American Gangster I don't seeing have wide appeal in HD

blu ray doesn't look to have much in 1Q either

hopefully both sides will have some announcements soon
hopefully both sides will have some announcements soon
CES show in January should bring news.

Dallow,

worth rebuying? It would be a good one presumably to show off the system with...

I don't know maybe its just the expense. I cant see rebuying these non new release movies.

Literally since I got that $99 HDDVD player I have dropped close to $2000 on a TV and stand. I started with 36" (to fit my $1000 entertainment center) and have worked up to a 42" which should arrive on Wednesday. Then I am picking up a TV stand and audio piers tonight.

I cant justify going over that size as the price difference is huge to get to 46" and I missed the Sam's Aquos 1080P 46" for 898 on BF. (should not have overlooked it so quickly)

So I will argue that that stupid $99 player has caused me to go high def, and to be honest I am waiting it out a bit more but by next year will be dual format if something beyond huge didn't happen to the RED side.

However, I think it's very deserving of a second look. From the review, it's seems a great title to show off what your display (and audio setup) can do.
Yes, it's expensive, but things will get cheaper as time moves on.
(or wait for sales on the BD sides)

As for your $99 player... well, how about renting some HD flicks?
I'm sure you can live with that until prices cool off.

Or he can always rent the Blu-Ray film that he's curious about.
Or he can always rent the Blu-Ray film that he's curious about.
He said he doesn't have a BD player.
He said he doesn't have a BD player.
I guess you know that personally or I missed it in his post. When he asked about re-buying it, I thought he meant the movie in BD as opposed to his DVD copy.

Well, we both thought he meant buying the BD to replace the DVD.
I assumed he mistakingly thought it was going to be on both formats.

But now I see he was just asking if it was worth rebuying for me personally.

(PS. he mentions maybe going dual format next year, so no BD player for him)

But GUYS OBVIOUSLY teh Warner BOGO means they're having a clearance on Blu Rays because they're going HD DVD exclusive111+111111!!!!!!!!

Dogma heading to blu ray. :D

Thats a day one purchase for me.
I just saw that movie for the first time the other day, and it was hilarious! Very anxious to see it in HD.

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1121/harrypotter_orderofthephoenix.html

As the first Warner domestic high-def 'Harry Potter' release to come our way for review, this Blu-ray edition of 'Order of the Phoenix' is an excellent start, boasting exceptional video and audio. Compared to the HD DVD, this Blu-ray edition gets the edge when it comes to standard extras (which feature full 1080p video and a TV Special that didn't make the HD DVD cut), but it can't quite make up for the lack of the In-Movie Experience track and other high-def exclusives included on the HD DVD. Still, there are probably enough supplements here to suffice for most fans, and it's great to finally have Harry looking (and sounding) so great on high-def.
But but 50GB is UNNECESSARY!

Blu-ray Owns 95% of Australian HD Market

Posted December 5, 2007 by Josh

bd.gif
On the heels of Video Ezy announcing they would only support Blu-ray, GfK (in association with Sony) has released a report stating that Blu-ray owned 95.2% of the high definition market in Australia for October. Blu-ray hardware (including the PS3) sold 26-to-1 compared to its rival HD DVD. Additionally, software sales were 18,000 units sold for Blu-ray compared to only 2,000 for HD DVD.

Carl Rose, Managing Director of Sony Australia commented, "This report quite clearly depicts the current state of play in the High Definition format market in Australian homes. Across the key areas of high definition entertainment, from hardware to content, these figures show that Blu-ray is distinctly the format of choice for consumers. Coming into Christmas we can only predict that adoption will continue to increase thanks to the backing of the format by the greatest number of electronics hardware manufacturers and movie and game development studios"
More evidence of how HD-DVD may be making it up ground in the US, but is falling further and further behind in PAL countries and Japan. Now granted, they only sold 20,000 discs, but 18,000 of those were Blu-ray and thats still a huge market share.

quick audio question.

do i need hdmi 1.3 cables to get true hd/etc out of the hd players/ ps3?

any truth to the "keeping the cables 6ft or less" rumor

i jumped on the amazon deal for the onkyo.
Couldn't you have highlighted the pro HD DVD portion and made an asinine comment about that as well?
How is that asisine? HD-DVD supporters have always said while 50gb is nice 30gb is sufficient. And I think when a neutral company is able to put something on a blu-ray disc thats not on a HD-DVD that proves that they were able to do it for space reasons. Which makes 50gb necessary. Hell, Superbad, and Pirates are two discs with all the extras.

Funny how you bold the sentence before this one:

;)

I really give a rats ass about the extras though, never really see them, I buy the movie for the movie, extras are nice but they are "extras".

Though as Geko said, for an extra couple bucks, might as well get the cables labeled 1.3 just to be sure.

Length doesn't matter unless you're going great lengths.

Ohh I completely agree with you. Which is why I have always said I could care less about HDi and which is one reason why I couldn't justify supporting HD-DVD. However, it's still evidence that the extra 20gb was used, and by a neutral company so I thought it was relevant to post.
No and no.

ok cool.. im going to order them anyways to have..

hopefully by friday ill get to see what hi def sound is all about

pretty interesting:

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Transformers had more than 80,000 unique online users, with 31% returning to download new content as it became available. Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Heroes: Season One, Knocked Up and Evan Almighty had an average of 30% of each HD DVD’s purchasers going online to download content and connect with fans.

Look at Linkin's post. You intentionally skipped over a large part of the article because it had something good to say about HD DVD.

So only 24,800 people are using the on-line portion? Doesn't seem like it's worth the studios efforts to produce it.
Oh well, I was just throwing in my two cents, in defense to my beloved format ;). No harm no foul.
Yeah guys it was a long night last night and today as well.

You got it right in the end, I am not too fond of rebuying standard releases in HD unless they are something I will rewatch quite a few times. I can understand maybe have a few around to show off with, and don't doubt that Castaway would do that.

I was asking if Dallow personally felt it was worth rebuying.
And I think I will go dual format probably by March or so of next year, pending all the news we get from the holidays, etc.

If I ever bought something in HD (Transformers for instance) and then it came available in Blu I (and I had a Blu player) I wouldn't rebuy it, one High Def format is enough, as long as I have an interest in the title.

Either way I am happy. Making the jump as apposed to waiting another year worked out well, as I hit some pretty nice sales for the TV etc. By next year I am guessing the price would be down even more.

And to the tech heads here, does anyone have feedback on the Panasonic LiFi stuff? Sam's Club had a killer deal here locally. a 56" Panasonic LiFi LCD TV for $1296. Item 987934. 1080P 3 HDMI etc only a 3000:1 Contrast ratio though and I think its somehow a projection.... I couldn't find a ton of stuff on AVS.

They are rear projection, if your looking for rear projection TV's, I would just stick with the Sony SXRD.

This thread used to be entertaining.

What is with all the product request recommendations lately in this thread.

Prey you peeps Cheapy does not give me mod status some day, I would ban you.

...

So, if BOGO is desparate and considered giving away media, what the fuck is $99 HD DVD players? And why can't I get one still? I need to watch Bourne damnit!

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=729

Yesterday at High-Def 2.0, studios announced some upcoming Blu-ray titles. Sony Pictures will bring 'Dogma' to Blu-ray on Februrary 12th and 'Run Lola Run' a week later on February 19th. 'The Guns of the Navarone' and 'A Passage to India' will come soon after, with 'Lawrence of Arabia' and 'Bridge on the River Kwai' later in the year.

Fox announced that they will bring upcoming theatrical titles like 'Juno', 'Hitman', 'Horton Hears a Who' and 'Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium' to Blu-ray, along with many new catalog titles.

Disney confirmed that both 'Finding Nemo' and 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe', both due for Spring release, will feature PiP video.
FINDING NEMO!!!! HOOOOOORRRAAAAAYYYYY!!!

(and as a little bit of trivia, in Latin Nemo means "no one" so the movies title literally means "Finding No One", something I always found funny).

Lawrence of Arabia..... can't wait for that one.
I know it's getting a proper restoration.

Why was HD DVD absent from that show?

And hey geko, the Warner sale has been updated, lots of new titles, including the box sets.
8 movies for $56 if anyone is interested.

linky-poo?

Also, is there an easy way to see all the HD Movies they have on the site?

Lol, now there's ZERO movies I'm interested in that I don't have already :)

Yeah, I have Unforgiven, and I gave my father-in-law The Wild Bunch, The Searchers, Wyatt Earp (part of a 4-pack), and Deliverance. I think my parents got him Rio Bravo and The Dirty Dozen, so between the two of us, we actually have every single movie on that list that's 15 or more years old except for Lethal Weapon 2, Enter the Dragon and Battle of the Bulge. :)
