If its a plain old Block Buster...no go.

I live in MI, and the 4 GR's ive gone to have had this sale going on with 2 other sales, Buy one, Get 1 %50 off and Trade in any game, get $10 off a 39.99 or more NEW game.

Not all GR's are in on this. Of those that do, the rules vary by compentence.

All I did was trade in spiderman and get 35 and go hitman 2 for 15 new, nothing great but I thought I would like it and HATE it!

Do you guys remove the Blockbuster stickers or do you leave them on? I went to one GR and bought 6 $2.99 games. The buy one get one 50% off deal kicked in and I ended up paying $16 for the whole lot.

I then drove down the street to the next GR. They had Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and Hitman Contracts. I used 4 of the GR games I had just picked up to get Metal Gear and Hitman for $9.99 each. I took off all the BB stickers just so it wouldn't look so damn blatant. I think one of the GR guys knew what I was doing, but he did not say anything.

So what do you guys do about the BB stickers? Do you take them off or do you leave them on?

P.S. I just noticed they did not apply the "Buy one used game get the other for 50% off" on my Metal Gear/Hitman purchase. I should have only paid $15 not $20!!

I take them off so its not so obvious of course (unless I'm trading them in at the same store that I bought the game at 8)...some clerks are cool like that...

And the Buy One Used Game get the other for 50% off does not stack on the top of the $9.99 used game deal (unless some BB clerk likes you or something...)

I peel off all Blockbuster/EB/Gamestop stickers before I trade the games back in.

You can't combine deals (trade 2 get 1 for 9.99 and buy one get one half off)

Yes, I also take off the stickers, so I don't look like I'm a thief/abuser of deals.

All because I'm a CAG, too.
Does GameRush have a website? Are there any GameRushs in MN? Thats a sweet deal.
Their website, oddly enough, is www.gamerush.com

I'm quickly becoming a fan of GameRush. They always have crazy trade-in deals going on, and right now I have a $10 off coupon taken out of an EGM. I think they have all these deals right now to try to drum up interest in the endeavor, so by the time it's more widespread the deals won't be as good. Still, I'll enjoy it while I can.

I peel them off too but it doesn't really make a difference when you trade them back at Gamerush. Whenever you trade/buy used games there, a list of all your recent transactions come up on the computer including titles and the dates of trades/buys you made. If you pick up some games from one GR store and trade them in at another GR, they are going to know.

If you pick up some games from one GR store and trade them in at another GR, they are going to know.

That's impossible, store chains can't keep records of other store transactions...

I just went to one of the stores today. They had trade 2 and get a PO for $9.99 or trade 3 and get a PO for $4.99. I traded 3 games and got a used Ghost Recon: Island Thunder and a new copy of Project Gotham Racing 2 for $20. I asked how long the sale was going on and they guy said some stores stopped it already, but they were gonna continue for a while, but he didn't know how long for sure. He did mention they will take any games besides Gamegear cames since they aren't in their system. I hope this helps others.

If it helps, I can provide some input on that (if other stores can see what you did at a store etc), as I worked at Blockbuster for a year and got to know the system pretty well on a technical level.

If they still run it this way, here's the scoop. Individual Blockbusters hold their users on a private database (usually a cheap/old computer in the back room). When you have your card scanned for the *first time* at that store, the system polls for the location, contacts their database, and uploads only critical information (Name, address, and if a hold is on the account). It uploads *NO* history of transactions that have taken place, nor does it even tell how much money you owe. Only if it gets to the point where the other store put a hold on your account does the fact that you even *have* a debt at the other store (and even then, it doesn't say how much... which will usually get the CSR to call the store in order to find out). Many people have used this to their advantage to run late fee reduction scams, but that's for another post.

Anyways, if they still use this system, that means that individual Blockbusters would have NO way of knowing, unless they called the other store, that you had done it to them, even if it's your first time going into the store (and thus your data is being transferred). It's a lack of info issue. Now, if you notice that they're calling the other store, that's a whole other issue entirely.

Anyways, hope that info helps. This is accurate as of about 8 months ago, and I'd assume that they're still running the same system as they have been running it since... God knows when...

i traded in 4 games and got 2 prev owned ones worth about 25 a piece..drove straight to a diff location and traded them in

as you know ballbuster has weird dvd lamination..when you buy a game retail, it is really smooth..just before i traded the games in, i peeled the ballbuster stickers off

the guy looked at the games and immediately recognized the lamination and then scanned them in..and then he looked down and looked at the screen again..so i think they know all transactions

he let me have the trade anyway..i was not informed that there was a restriction on trading in games that you just bought

today i went and traded in dynasty warriors 4 and the guy looks at it and goes "huh, i might get that for myself tonight"...if they start working like this, it's gonna become like CC..the customers will be left with shitty games and the workers will get the newest preowned releases

I just got my car fixed yesterday at a Conrads. They are a an automotive chain in Ohio. I have moved since my last visit but their system at the one I went to yesterday had all my info. Dates, repairs, specifics, etc. It's quite easy to track orders at many locations.

I'm sure this is already happening quite frequently. It's just a benefit of working at the store. As soon as something goes on the shelf (or even before... no debate about the "morality" of this...) an employee can grab it. They basically get first dibs on all the good games.
I went to my local Gamerush yesterday. I had 5 games to trade in, but I found Red Dead Revolver, Hitman: Contracts and NBA Ballers (all XBOX). So I picked up a copy of Tony Hawk 2 for PSX (2.99) and then I had the 6 games to trade in and get 3 used games at 9.99. The clerk told me that there wasy no policy to stop my trading in a game I just bought. He said they didn't care. But next time I'll stock extra cheap old games to trade.

Man, I really want to get in on these deals! And I'm in Texas too!

Problem is, I'm in Houston, Texas, and I don't believe there's a Gamerush here.

I'm gonna have to drive to freakin' San Antonio, aren't I? :(

AWESOME. I'm going to Gamerush tomorrow and I'm gonna have about 8 games to trade in. I hope they have some good PO games there. Also, do I need to get a special Gamerush card at Blockbuster??? Thanks

Freakin San Antonio? :?

I've just found 10 games that I will probably never want to play again. I'm gonna take em there tomorrow.
I've got...
T.H.U.G. - Xbox
State of Emergency- PS2
Robotech Battlecry- Xbox
Metroid Prime- Gamecube
Spider-Man- Gamecube
Madden 2002- Gamecube
NBA 2k3- Xbox
Max Payne- Xbox
Crash Bandicoot Warped- PSX
Bushido Blade- PSX

I hope at least a good amount of credit for a few of those games, but I'm not expecting hardly much. I'll probably try to get at least 3 games.

Emphasis more on the trip than the city, But Houston still owns you :D

Well, except in basketball :?

Well, except in basketball

lol :p

So, anyone get anything good for a cheap price recently? I haven't, aside from the MMAC.

My Game's Over... stores I guess talked to another and monitored my activity and now I'm "banned" from future trading.... but hey, I can still rent a video from them (per the District Manager)

^^^ sucks for you. What exactly did you do?
And I just got back from Gamerush today. I traded in 6 games and ended up getting Max Payne 2, NFL Street, and MOH: Frontline. I still have $13 credit, also. I am VEEEERRRRRYYY happy right now.

LOL! Sucks for you! But if you milk the cow too much, you're going to come up empty eventually.

Just do it thru a friend.
Anyone know if you can trade in DC games too?
You can trade in DC games but I don't think they'll go towards the "trade 2 get a preowned for $9.99" deal since the signs only list PSOne, PS2, Xbox, GBA, and GCN...

I did manage to pick up a used Spider-Man 2 for PS2 at a local Gamerush yesterday. They had hid it behind the counter. A man was about to get it right as I walked in the store but then after he went out to get his 2 games to trade in, he saw that it was for PS2 instead of Xbox. Luckily for me he didn't own a PS2... :D

How is that Spider-Man 2 game, anyway? I didn't really like the first one, would I like the second game if I didn't care much for the first?

Just what all else are doing. Much was YMMV type from store to store and register person to register person, but basically a bunch of the $9.99 deals. I think I just needed to "hold" the games longer though, guess I was getting to be too "frequent a customer" for the manager's liking.

Also, re: DC games worked on the $9.99 deal on the system at local stores here. I don't think the "computer" coupon cares what you trade in... might be dependent on the CSR helping you to determine what can and can't be traded in.
Nope, I'm pretty sure each store can only pull up the transactions that occured at that same store.
that's because it's your BB account. it's usable at anystore, therefore they get all your information at anystore, get all your recent transactions at anystore.

The guy at my Gamerush said that PSX games aren't part of the trade 2 get one for 9.99 deal. Now that I know it is, and I even checked the gamerush website and it says it is, I'm gonna go back there next time and trade me in some PSX games.

psx is part of the 9.99 but not the 4.99 deal. print out the page and show him so you don't have to go through too much trouble.

Gamerush sure is impressing me. I went back to the montgomery gamerush and I picked up a hidden copy of Dark Cloud 2. I now have about $25 credit at Gamerush. I'm lovin it...
Anyone know where i can get a trade in 3 get 1 for $4.99 coupon? I know it's in EGM, anywhere else?
On that coupon, is it trade in 3 and get a PO game for 4.99? Or is it new games also???

I've finally been able to hunt down a GR in Ft. Worth. Now I can get in on some of these great deals!

Ha. The same things happening to me. My friends work there and they said a corprate manager pulled up my account and others who trade heavily and were under investigation. Also my friends and their co-workers who work there were doing the same thing as me and they fired 2 managers there and are about to fire off all the employees once they find new hires. Well at least I can apply there again since the manager who doesn't like me got fired. Nice.
I don't understand why they would ban you. Is trading in games that you just bought prohibited at the store or something?

Oh btw, how's the recovery coming along? Have you guys ran into any of your enemies lately?

It sucks... Unless you like playing the same 5 missions over and over and over. What forced me off the deep end when the stupid little girl wanted me to fetch her balloon. Get your own damn balloon!

I figure it has to do with the scale of what you've done. If they see multiple trades with and for the exact software, and a large surplus of trade-in credit, they know exactly what you are doing. It's probably all hinging on reason. Notice that they aren't making that much of a fuss over it, or suspending them from renting videos or games from blockbuster. They've just said that they don't want your business anymore when it comes to trading in software.

Oh, okay.
The August issue of Gamepro has a coupon in it as well. Also, the September issue has a coupon for $5 off your first month of the Game Pass.

The Sunday before last I traded in NCAA 2004, Madden 2004, and WRC for $38 total($30 just for Madden and NCAA, which Gamestop was only gonna give me $8.). It was all put on a GR value card. I used my coupon from Gamepro and got Contra: SS for free, that put me down to $32.something. Then I picked Super Monkey Ball(GC) and Maximo(non-GH) and I was down to $14.59 and decided to come back in a week or so.

I come back this past Sunday and traded in ESPN NHL Hockey(PS2) and that added $7 to my value card. I picked up Pikmin(non-PC) and Wallace and Gromit: Project Zoo(PS2) and went to pay for them and used what was left on the card and only had to pay about $5,out of my pocket, for 5 games. This put me over the 100 game mark for my collection.

Adding the CC sale with these purchases, I had a great cheapass weekend.

I just traded in two ps1 games and nfl blitz pro for xbox, I got it at circuit city and I got spiderman 2 for 5 bucks, actually I got it for free. They gave me like 4.70 back :)
