Unless your DM doesn't allow you to participate in the checkout program. Which is the case of my region. So no, they're not absolutely, unequivocally used.

Just because something is OPEN doesn't mean it's USED. Gamestop doesn't advertise it's games as New AND Sealed. It advertises them as New. I could go into the CAG Marketplace and find about 100 listings for NEW games that aren't sealed. So let's go and start calling out every single one of those people as well.
Does anyone advertise "new and sealed?" How do we find out which DM's let employees take out these "new" games? Oh we cant! Open is used.

I apologize for perpetuating the age-old "gutted is/is not new" argument, but to add to the comments -

The absolute best is when the game DOES NOT COME WITH artwork or instructions and is still sold as "new." You see that a surprising amount at gamestop (lots of ps2 games have been like that).

Regardless of your opinion on the new vs not new gut argument, its hard to argue that disc-only should qualify as a "new" item.

Just traded in Mortal Kombat vanilla for $19 store credit at Gamestop. Come Sunday I'll use that store credit towards Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition when its on sale for $30 :D
Can you return these "open new" copies back to GS?
As long as the sticker that was put on it isn't broken/cut.
Now, it's likely that the used counterparts of the games going on sale will also be discounted, right?
that usually never happens, at least that i have noticed. it always seemed strange to me because it didn't make sense how the used one would be less than the new one (why would anyone buy used if they could get new for free?). that's what leads me to believe that they'll just end up selling their used copies as "new" ones.
dude we have not been allowed to check out new games as per company policy in almost 3 years.
so then the games that they sell which aren't sealed are used :shame:

Hi everyone. First time poster here.
I've never bought new games at GS, only used ones. My question is: do any of the new games come shrink wrapped? Or I get the games in those dirty display boxes with the impossible-to-remove price stickers?
If that's the case, does anyone know if there's gonna be a printed ad? I'd rather PM at BB or even Walmart as long as I get something with a shrink wrap.
Thanks!

I've been asking the same question for the same reason. I think I'll just check at a GameStop, they usually have their ads on display, and there are two close to my home and job.

From my experience it's hit or miss.

I think they all are shrink wrapped, excepted for 1...which would be their last copy. They do that so they can have the a box out on display.

Thats whats been the case. Unless it's their last copy, it should be shrinked wrapped.

Someone posted this deal on SD with a scan of the full ad so you should be able to find one in the store providing your store is good about putting out marketing materials.

This.

Or ask for a sealed copy. Its not that hard to say, "Could I have a sealed copy?" if they hand you a unsealed one.

I've only once gotten a un-sealed copy, and they said it was the last copy they had.

Not trying to be a douche, but for the love of god....does anyone know/ever gonna answer, whether or not the prices of the used copies will go down as well?

lol

A bunch of people have. Typically, no, they won't.

Another question, where can you find this printed ad, I really wanna grab GTA 4 Complete, wanna price match it at either Walmart or Best Buy, but I've never pmed anything at Best Buy before. How does it work or which store will be easier to get a PM?

You can find the ad in stores starting on Sunday, or it may also be mailed with your local newspaper with all the other Sunday ads.

I looked it up and Best Buy doesn't have it locally, only Walmart does. So will they give me a hard time to PM it or will I have to have a physical ad with me?

Alright thanks, I guess I'll run into GS to see if they have an ad

Boooo, I just saw the adscan on SD , it turns out that MK:Komplete is $30 only if you are a PUR member.
New question: does it cost something to become a PUR member? Can I do it in store that same day?
I'm pretty sure that I can't pricematch at BB if it's a PUR offer only, right?

Not a good sign every damn 1 of my gamestop has white knight chronicles 2 listed as low stock, I guess it's a gutted copy!

It costs $15 for a one-year membership. Here's more info if you're interested: http://www.poweruprewards.com/Home/FAQ
I thought Power Up Rewards was free and power up pro was the paid subscription? So shouldn't we all have access to the deals with the free membership?
Yeah, you're right. I was thinking that the deal would only be eligible to pro members but in the FAQ it says even free members are part of the Power Up Rewards program. My bad!

Oh horseshit.

Well looks like that'll save me a trip to trade a game or two there tomorrow.

I remember GS often getting extra stock of games in for the big Spring Sales. Although chances are it's probably gutted or they all will be.
Exactly. They try to tell you "Oh no, don't worry, it's NEW!"

Is it? IS IT!!?? It's been out on the floor getting molested left and right by anyone, it's manual gets flipped through, sometimes gets stolen, sometimes the art work even gets ripped a bit... yet it's NEW!!!! I tell this to them when occasion arises, and they know. They look at me and basically say "Yeah, I know, it's horse shit. Not our call, though"
"getting molested" LMAO !

My question got lost in the shuffle it seems!

Are these prices going to be reflected in the used prices for the duration of the sale?

Yes most games will likely be 2$ off used priced i.e MW3 39.99 Used 37.99

Is there any chance that UMvC3 drops to around $10 anytime soon? I would like to play with Phoenix Wright, and I'm pretty terrible at Capcom fighters/don't have a fight stick so I guess it's not huge that I get the game. Still, I enjoy screwing around with them for a bit and $10 is a decent price to do that, but having to double up just to use the characters I want to use seems silly. I think I got SSFIV whatever the last non-Arcade one was for $10 and even though I only played it for about 3 hours it was a decent value for me, I guess.

Seriously, drop UMvC3 in price to like $20!

I'm sure as hell going to try. My idea is to give them the argument that I am a RZ Silver Unlocked Member (which I seriously am) and see if they'll match it. I can bring in my old PUR card too though I haven't used it in years (and was tempted to cut it up several times).

And if not that, try Wal-Mart. They usually don't give a fuck and will match it anyway.

Perhaps "SD" has to do with when they came out? All those games are a month or two old. So I think it has to do with when they were released.
Got into a little argument over new and gutted..This gutted crap is beyond annoying its complete bullshit. Also it does have tons of stickers all over the case that say new which couldn't have been put there had it been sealed like it should be.
Reading your post made me angry. You, good sir, are filling me with GameStop rage! ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! I too have gotten in to fights with them. God forbid they EVER have an unopened case of whatever game I'm buying. Even when its on sale, they have ONE ONE!!!!!!!!!! game available and its OPENED and gutted.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck GameStop.

Please let me find someone else selling LA Noire for $20.

/[rant]

I'm still angry. Stupid GameStop.

Usually, only one copy is not shrink wrapped with the stickers. That is the copy they put out there for display. So unless they only have one, you should be able to get a factory sealed one. That would be OK, I suppose, if it was only the one. But often times when they have a big sale, like this upcoming spring sale, they will open all of them and put them out there with the sticker. I have one Gamestop that always keeps a few copies sealed in the back, provided they have extras, cause they know many prefer them that way. They only give them to you if you specifically ask for a sealed one.

A few years back I saw where a local GS supposedly had a new copy of one of the Atelier Iris PS2 games, so I went to check it out. All I saw on the shelf was one of their generic "we don't have the artwork" cases for it, so I took it up & asked the guy if they had a new copy of that. He replied "That IS new." I looked at him dumbfounded for a sec, then asked "HOW is this considered new??". He responded "The disk has never been played."

Yeeeaaahhhhh...

On-topic, it's very annoying that the base version of MvC3 is on sale, but only the new version of MK is on sale. What gives? I figured for sure we'd see MK drop to around $10 once the "Komplete" edition hit, but from what I've seen it's been holding its value everywhere. I already bought the DLC characters last year, which is all I care about that's extra, so I just want the plain game for cheap.
