Hey guys, I figured since we totally hijacked that DS Lite thread to talk about everything from cider to live local music....we might as well have a dedicated thread for it. Especially since I think we definitely have the most robust discussions in the Southeast CAG forum!

I'll kick it off by describing my recent EB experience:

I hit the Northlake EB (the one with the cool manager) today to grab some B2G1 goodness. I ended up getting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (XB), RE2 (GC), and RE3 (GC), all complete and mint for 86.65. Considering that MvC2 goes for $50-60 on ebay, I thought this to be a pretty good purchase! As I was leaving, the manager guy told me that the North Dekalb store had some rare shit right now too, and that I should check it out. What a nice guy!

Anyway, I f'n hate that EB, but I figured it was worth a trip (its not that far from home). I ended up getting complete mint copies of REZ (PS2), LoZ Promo disc (GC, the one with Master Quest), and Cubivore (GC) for $72.20. Cool.

I also got 3 used DS games (preparing for the Lite on Sun) for B2G1. All three of the games (Trauma Center, Advance Wars, and MarioKart) were complete. But, somehow, as the dipshit was ringing me up, the Trauma manual somehow disappeared from the box! Since they insist upon slapping those damned clear stickers on the edges at sale time, I didn't notice the missing manual until I was on the way home. Jackasses!! Well, they had another complete used copy, so hopefully they can help me out tomorrow....but I'm not counting on it.

In the meantime, this dude with a baby was trading in 20 Xbox games (and getting ripped off, I might add), and the clueless employees there couldn't seem to get it all worked out. That poor bastard must've been there for about 45 minutes, and still hadn't gotten the right trade in credit. UGH.

My two trips today really showed me how utterly opposed two EBs within a few miles of one another could really be. And that is why I always go out to Northlake!

On to more beer talk!!
Since all DS games are on sale Professor can be had at CC for $24 through Saturday. There is at least 1 at my store.
I'd call it, but I think Guin has dibs. =(

Incidentally, I'm a huge and vociferous Friday Night Lights fan (though this season hasn't been quite as good as the first).
They were going to get trashed at work so I snapped them up. You might be able to find a stray set in a GS somewhere. I checked ebay and there seem to be some good prices on some of the auctions. . .

If it has a digital A/V output on the back it will take component cables. If you plan on getting a Wii this year I would just wait instead of spending the $ (which is exactly what I'm doing).
I guess I'll have to start hitting GS. Those prices on ebay aren't shabby at all as long as those 3rd party manufacturers are reliable. That was going above and beyond. Thanks! BTW, I checked my GC and it does have digital A/V. I did get it when KMart liquidated stores here in what, 2004? So it probably was a really early model that sat in the back forever! I doubt I'll get a Wii even though I'd like one since I'm more likely to get a PS3 especially with BluRay capability and PS2s are more likely to die than GCs. Of course, that's if I find a 60GB or they start making them hardware BC again.
If you have a later GCN, chances are it doesn't have the ability to do component out. Nintendo dropped support for this feature halfway through the system's lifespan, largely due to poor support from developers and an assumption that most consumers didn't care. Actually, quite a lot of games support 480p. A few (mostly 3rd party) support 16:9. And a very rare few (single digits) support both. There's a more or less complete list here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=649817
But I agree with neocisco...Wait for a Wii to play your GCN games in 480p and/or 16:9.
Thanks for the list, HDTVArcade had Starcraft:Ghost listed so I had doubts on its accuracy.

Two other things:

First, I am a major Friday Night Lights fan and I didn't know it was in trouble again. Although the story lines have gotten a little over the top this year, it's still a great show and I hope it sticks around. NBC doesn't have anything half as good to fill that slot anyway. What, more Deal or No Deal or Dateline? Great. . .

Also, last night I went to the Targets on Druid Hills and Sidney Marcus and one of them had four of the Blue and Black DS Lites in the case. Aren't they breaking street date there? Sorry, I forgot which one had them, but at least they're close to eachother if you go to the wrong one first

No problem, jdawgg. Others CAG's have done the same for me before. Do unto others and all that.

The FNL season 2 DVD set has already been listed for an April release so, even though NBC hasn't officially announced no new episodes once the strike is over, this pretty much confirms it. A cancellation hasn't been announced but the new chairman, Ben Silverman, is said to not be real big on the show. Imagine that, a Jewish guy from Massachusetts not being a fan of a show based on Texas culture. Who'da thunk it? BTW, before anybody gets upset, that wasn't an anti-Semitic comment, just pointing out the differences.

Not so fast. Was just checking out IGN and there may be hope. Basically, NBC Universal may be toying with the idea of shopping FNL to other networks if NBC stops carrying it. Of course, it's rumors, but hey.

http://tv.ign.com/articles/850/850740p1.html

Silverman actually says he loves the show in the quote, but that could be posturing for a "I love it, but the viewers don't support it" line when he cancels it.

oh hey I forgot to mention when I stopped by Mircocenter (Duluth) they had a ton of the wavebird charge packs. I bought one for my wavebird when I got it and it's great. I've been looking for another for at least 3 years. They're $7 on clearance and they had at least 20 left. I had to pick it up. My wavebird battery is dying.

I have a hard time believing NBC would sell one of the shows they own to another network but if they don't renew it I'd love to be wrong. BTW, Smash finally started to grow up tonight. It's criminal how underappreciated this show is.

I just cleaned out the battery compartment on mine because my regular old batteries corroded. Poor thing has been neglected recently, but not for that long. This will be awesome.

BTW, Smash finally started to grow up tonight. It's criminal how underappreciated this show is.
Yeah, but while they're under the same umbrella NBC and NBC Universal are still seperate entities and NBCU may feel their critically acclaimed product can be better supported by another network (and they'd be soooo right. I don't know if there's a precedent of that nature, but there's several shows produced under one network that air on another like Scrubs is produced by ABC and airs on NBC (when NBC was going to cancel it, the show was told it's final season would air on ABC if NBC dropped it), Burn Notice is a CBS show and airs on Universal owned USA (it would start airing on NBC like Monk and Psych will be to fill time due to the strike if not for that fact unless they work out a deal) so it's not too unbelieveable that one could move nets. I don't know who produced JAG, but that jump worked as did Baywatch going to syndication. Also, the threat that it may go to a rival could cause NBC to reconsider.

Funny you guys are talking about NBC. I was just in NYC on Monday and took a picture of the striking writers in front of NBC studios. After I took the pic, one of the writers said "you can sell that on ebay". Funny stuff.

Whoa, awesome. If anyone who regularly ventures into the city, or up near Roswell happens by this store and wants to grab me 2, I'd be happy to meet you to pick them up. Otherwise, I'll try to get over there before too long.

PS, I am a FNL fan, too. The Saracen's grandma is a friend and former Sunday School teacher of mine from Dallas! Super-sweet lady.

Thanks for the info, folks. Tybee, if you see the Professor, grab him. I'll be keeping an eye out today. And besides, he comes out tomorrow. I suppose if I don't find him today, I'll be able to wait till tomorrow.

No, I think he was being facetitous. I can't imagine anyone paying for a picture of an out-of-work writer. However, if you know somebody that would...

...you'll be the first to know. ;)

Thanks. Sometimes I'm not sure when people are serious or joking about all kinds of things. And folks are bizarre about what they sell on ebay, so I'm double unsure with that.

Saw two copies of Blue Dragon for 360 on the wall-side endcap at the Sidney Marcus Target for $29.98. Half price!

Also, remember the PS3 Motorstorm (used) deal at Gamestop for $19.99. There were several copies left at the Peachtree Industrial/Chamblee Tucker location.

I believe there were copies at either the Hiram Super Target or the Acworth Super Target this past week (lousy memory, sorry).

I'm waiting for that to go even cheaper.

Oh, speaking of the triple and Super Target, the Hiram store had Ninja Gaiden Sigma for 29.98.

I'll definitely stop by on Monday since I have more leeway on what time I get there. I can get them for you then if you still need someone to do so.

Getting OT to read the paper and the Saturday Brandsmart ad has the following:

PS2: Sonic Heroes 14.88
God of War 2 28.88
Guitar Hero 3 38.88
PS2 SingStar Bundle 168.88
Wii: Shrek The Third 14.88
Super Paper Mario 34.88
PS3: Stranglehold 44.88
Rock Band (only the game is pictured) 44.88
360: Wireless Controller 38.88

Think I'll go watch MyATL which has the Waterboy on. I'm a model employee.;)
Cool and thanks for the heads up on my mailbox being full!
jdawgg, I was in the Blockbuster on Five Forks and Oak Rd earlier renting "The Assasination of Jesse James" and saw that they had some good deals on older original XBOX titles. Nothing that I didn't already have, but titles I would buy if not. Can't remember any names now for the life of me.

Also, they had a bunch of used copies of Bioshock for $34.99. Nothing really else major for current-gen systems.

By the way, don't anyone bother going to the FYE at Discover Mills. I had to be there today for something, so I thought I'd check it out. No deals. Period. All this talk on CAG about FYE closeouts and such, I thought I'd get lucky. I guess that specific FYE isn't getting rid of its games. Don't bother going...

Depending on traffic I can hit that Blockbuster with a super bouncy ball on a bounce from my house! I've eyed a few games there, but I'm trying to save my credit for a Wii or 60GB PS3. I did get Metroid Hunters and Contra 4 and a PS2 Baldur's Gate 2 all in absolute mint condition all from there. There are a couple of interesting games that I missed out on that I may pick up, too. They have a TON of Bioshocks. I thought about using credit on one of those until thoughts of Wii or PS3 and the FYE deal came along. I may still do so, but there's no rush as they have a ton (probably 90% from rental stock that never got rented as they had a TON for rent there, too) and I'm too busy playing CoD4 and ignoring my backlog of games to catch up on.

And about FYE, I went there looking for Bioshock the day the deal was reported and yeah, it's pathetic there. I didn't have time to browse, but they do have two small 50% off bins which were mostly junk. I always wanted to play the contra clone Blowout which was marked $5. I may go back and see if it's really 2.50! Hope I didn't tip off a lurker on that gem!;)

and just so people don't go out of their way, the fye at cumberland is closed. hadn't been to the mall in a while and was a little surprised to see it completely gone

Yeah, that location's been closed for a few months now. Not sure if that bodes well or ill for the mall itself. I've always had a relatively low opinion of Cumberland Mall, both when I lived in Smyrna and now that I work in Sandy Springs. The makeover just seemed like putting lipstick on a pig. They can add all the crappy mall chain restos (P.F. Chang's, Maggiano's, Bugaboo Creek, etc.) they want, but it's the same ghetto place where my wife was almost shot in the food court three years ago.

Wolfkin, just to be sure these were Hip Gear charge packs hanging on the Nintendo accessory aisle clearanced at 7.98. Are those the same ones you saw? Considering I'm always the only customer in the game section when I go, I can't imagine they sold 10+ in a few days. If so, I'm glad to get in on this.
well as they apparently say in the dub. 'believe it' those are the ones.
Cool, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss some official ones or whatnot. I must reiterate that I'm really surprised that they sold that many in a few days. We got a lot of lurkers on this regional thread or what? :D

Im not sure if there are any PC gamers here, but has anyone been to a Circuit City recently with a good amount of PC games in stock?

Im trying to find a store with Guild Wars Nightfall CE from the clearance.

yeah..it's nice to have really close to where i live but it's really not that great. haha...lipstick and really ugly carpet :p
Wish I had a wavebird charge pack.
Just get some Eneloops and a good charger. Just ordered the La Crosse BC-900 for myself. It's been endorsed by a bunch of CAGs and gets raves just about everywhere. Plus, Amazon has it for a phenomenal price.

Here's a good primer on batteries, rechargeable and otherwise (including the proprietary lithium ion types that come with cell phones and other devices):

http://photography4therestofus.wordpress.com/batteries/

AAs=no.

There are so many things in this house that require batteries, they'll just get used for something else. May have to check out MicroCenter when I get back in town.
AAs=no.

Wait...You're rejecting them because they're TOO USEFUL? Hmmm...That's a new one. ;)
Wait...You're rejecting them because they're TOO USEFUL? Hmmm...That's a new one. ;)
If they're in the house (in drawers, controllers, toys, anything), they'll get confiscated from my use. So, if I have specific packs for everything I use, I'll always have batteries. ;)

Any of you in the Atlanta area have some success finding the $3 Kmart clearance 360 games (Chromehounds, Prey, Table Tennis, Tomb Raider Legend)? I'm in Marietta and haven't found any of them. If you do have any of those to sell I'd be willing to pay shipping, etc. :D

Most of them disappeared when they were $7 and the extra 30% off sale was going on. There were a ton at the Kmart on Cleveland Ave, but during that sale some guy came in and bought everything. All clearance games gone. Well, almost everything. The clerk let me look through the rows behind the front game in the case and while most rows had the same game, I was able to find a couple of Preys for me and another CAG. Only other clearance games I found were Madden 07 and Tiger Woods 07. Those are probably gone now since it's been several months.

Try TRU for Table Tennis (just dropped to $5) and Prey is 19.98, but will probably drop in a month or two. If it's like the 19.98 games that dropped this round it'll go to 9.90.
jdawgg - that's ok, I barely use my WB as it is.
I'm the same way, but I figured it at least this way if I don't play for a while I won't get corroded batteries in it like last time. It hadn't even been that long either. That and I'm going to play my GC more. LMK if you change your mind.

Yahoo, my new-to-me refurb. replacement 360 arrived today!:applause:

Thrilled to be getting back into things, as such I wasn't aware that Table Tennis had dropped to $5 at TRU. Trying to decide if it's worth tracking down a copy.

Anybody played it and have an opinion to share?

I checked the Buckhead BB for cheap game guides and spotted at least one of every title listed in the updated clearance list, except golden compass and MOA rang up as $9. So get there soon guide grabbers. Perimeter had only Shadowrun for 1 cent and Ackworth only had the NADA 3.
Cobb parkway will be scouted tomorrow.

Let me know if anyone spots a $14 or less clearance Folklore at an ATL Target (as that is my buy it price, since I can't ever luck into a rental copy of this game) this clearance price is rare but possible.

Anybody played it and have an opinion to share?
The Lenox TRU had several TTs last friday when I was there and it's definitely worth five. I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but it's pretty fun and $5 is less than the price of a rental AND you can trade it in for credit at EB or GR if you don't like it and probably break even.

Ubiquiitous, doing a massive pm box cleaning right now. My bad.

Can we start spotting for next week's sales? I need a Target with a healthy supply of The Orange Box
and a CC with Lost Planet for the 360.
