CAGiversary!

Hey guys, I figured since we totally hijacked that DS Lite thread to talk about everything from cider to live local music....we might as well have a dedicated thread for it. Especially since I think we definitely have the most robust discussions in the Southeast CAG forum!

I'll kick it off by describing my recent EB experience:

I hit the Northlake EB (the one with the cool manager) today to grab some B2G1 goodness. I ended up getting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (XB), RE2 (GC), and RE3 (GC), all complete and mint for 86.65. Considering that MvC2 goes for $50-60 on ebay, I thought this to be a pretty good purchase! As I was leaving, the manager guy told me that the North Dekalb store had some rare shit right now too, and that I should check it out. What a nice guy!

Anyway, I f'n hate that EB, but I figured it was worth a trip (its not that far from home). I ended up getting complete mint copies of REZ (PS2), LoZ Promo disc (GC, the one with Master Quest), and Cubivore (GC) for $72.20. Cool.

I also got 3 used DS games (preparing for the Lite on Sun) for B2G1. All three of the games (Trauma Center, Advance Wars, and MarioKart) were complete. But, somehow, as the dipshit was ringing me up, the Trauma manual somehow disappeared from the box! Since they insist upon slapping those damned clear stickers on the edges at sale time, I didn't notice the missing manual until I was on the way home. Jackasses!! Well, they had another complete used copy, so hopefully they can help me out tomorrow....but I'm not counting on it.

In the meantime, this dude with a baby was trading in 20 Xbox games (and getting ripped off, I might add), and the clueless employees there couldn't seem to get it all worked out. That poor bastard must've been there for about 45 minutes, and still hadn't gotten the right trade in credit. UGH.

My two trips today really showed me how utterly opposed two EBs within a few miles of one another could really be. And that is why I always go out to Northlake!

On to more beer talk!!
The Tucker TRU has one Xbox Live Gold Vision Pack left (it's on clearance for $39.99). There were two before I got there. ;)

Cheap way to get a year of Live, with the web cam, 200 MS points, a couple games, and a headset thrown in for free.
Which games come with it? I thought you were getting the one at the Pleasant Hill location so I didn't stop by there today. Doh!

I was going to. Drove all the way out there on my lunch break and no go. All they had was the 3-month version (and I asked them to check in back), so I'm not sure if the guy that posted about it was confused or someone just picked it up before me. On a whim, stopped by the Tucker location (sort of) on my way back. Glad I did. If you go, it's sitting on the bottom shelf on the 360 aisle under all of the other accessories. Had a sticker on the front saying it also came with a free download on the billiards game whose name escapes me at the moment, but it looked like that aspect of the deal was expired.

I believe it comes with Uno (which I already have) and Robotron 2084...And I think you can download Totemball as well, which you play using the camera.
And I think you can download Totemball as well, which you play using the camera.
Do yourself a favor and don't bother downloading that Totemball crap.
Do yourself a favor and don't bother downloading that Totemball crap.
I figured. I've got the Wii for when I'm in the mood for flailing my arms around like I'm on fire. And Nintendo does me the service of not including a camera so I am not directly confronted with how stupid I look.

Tons of stuff at the Dallas Hwy Target in Marietta on Clearance - these were on the endcap near the hard drives as well as the two plastic (and messy) display shelves on both ends of the video game aisle.

XBOX 360 games
About 4-5 Crackdowns left - 14.98
1 Viva Pinata (non PH) - 14.98 (also saw a PH but it was not marked on clearance but if you wanted both I'm sure you could convince them to charge you the same price if the PH rang up higher for some reason)
1 Viva Pinata Party Animals - 14.98
Few copies of Naruto Rise of a Ninja - 29.98 or 14.98 didn't check the price on this one but they've been there for at least a month so probably 14.98
1 Two Worlds - 29.98
1 Simpsons - 24.98
Couple of NHL2K8 - 24.98

PS2
1 - NHL 2K7 4.98
1 or 2 copies of SOTC (GH) - 12.48
2 or 3 SOCOM Combined Assault 12.48
~ 10 Spongebob Lights Camera Action - didn't look at the price lol

No PS3 games on clearance that I saw

Gamecube - Lego Star Wars Original Trilogy 5-6 copies at least - 9.98

Might have been some others but those are what I remember. Picked up Crackdown and the only My Word Coach for the Wii for 12.48. Have at it cuz the only copy of Blue Dragon I saw there 3-4 weeks ago is gone and I've bought everything else I wanted in this batch.

Looking thru the Target thread, remembered a couple of other 360 games

College Hoops 2K8 - 29.98 1 or 2 copies
PGR3 - 9.98 - 1 copy
PGR4 - 29.98 - 1 or 2 copies

This is a little off topic, but something happened to me yesterday that I found really disturbing and I thought I would share.

As I was finishing work last night, a coworker called me to say he had a flat and was missing some of the tools he needed to change his tire. He was at a nearby gas station, so I drove over to help him. Turned out his spare was flat, so we pulled over to the air to fill it up. As we were squatting by his car doing that, I heard the voices of two white guys behind us, out of sight. I missed the beginning of the conversation, but apparently one of them was talking about needing to use the air, or the water, which we were in the process of using. But this is where I started to pay attention:

"Shit. We'll never get in there. This n*gger's got his ass in the way."
"fucking Obama." (I have an Obama sticker on my car)
"Wait...That guy's white! fucking poser!"

EXIT BIGGOTS

My friend and I just ignored the guys and just focused on what we were doing, laughing about it a bit. They did not have thick southern accents. I was not in the boonies. This was in the middle of fucking Vinings where, if nothing else, I at least expect people to have learned to keep their racism to themselves.

I should add that not five minutes earlier, a black family pulled up and politely asked if we were using the air. I wasn't at that moment, so I handed the guy the nozzle and he soon passed it back, thanked me, and asked if we needed any help.

Compare and contrast.

I think you now realize that racism and bigotry can be found everywhere, not just where you previously had it associated to the stereotype of a country hick.

Damn I always wanted to live in the vinnings, lucky!, and oh yea racism bad.

All jokes aside I have come to conclusion that people have lost all sense of respect for others. I have many of my own stories but not worth typing a novel.

damn..i'm white and female, so i'd love to know what they'd think of me supporting obama.

that actually fits in with a story my fiance told me about an experience with Vinings...he and a friend had gone up to see a cemetery in the area that's supposed to be really nice, but the one they found was completely run down and untaken care of. they went back to the historical society whatever it is building to ask about it. they asked the lady there about the cemetery, which she immediately starts up about how nice it is. they responded that it wasn't, and told her what a mess it was. she got confused and then said "ooh, that's the Black Cemetery." my fiance assumed that must be a last name and asked who the Blacks were...then figured out what was going on. The historic society money goes to the nice white cemetery, they asked who takes care of the other one and she said no one.

-_-...yeah.
I think you now realize that racism and bigotry can be found everywhere, not just where you previously had it associated to the stereotype of a country hick.
Touche. But in my defense, my wife hails from Carroll County and all of her family still live there (except her grandparents, who live in Roanoake, Ala., which is about as deep South as you can possibly get). My grandparents were old south, and I've lived in various parts of Georgia and S.C. my whole life, so I know from "country hick."

The point I was trying to make was that if I hadn't said anything about their accents, someone would have said something along the lines of "fucking rednecks" and been done with it. I grew up in Cobb County, so sadly, I know the kind of hypocrisy that thrives in its well-groomed subdivisions. There's a reason I don't live there anymore and would not want my children raised there. Moreover, the people I grew up with were no better or worse than people in the far flung areas, and in a lot of ways, they're less honest. They were certainly much less overt about their biases, so I guess it surprised me to hear these assholes speak so openly.

Moving from Michigan to Georgia really opened my eyes and ears up to the unabashed racism that still exists in the south. Sure, ignorance like this can be found anywhere in the U.S. and I don't mean to imply that Michigan is immune. The big difference that I noticed in the south is that quite often it is pacticed plainly and in public, without fear of reproach or retribution. In regards to tolerance and acceptance, the metro area may be distinctly different (and better) then much of the south but as this incident clearly demonstrates prejudice of all types can and will be found anywhere one can find people.

Changing hearts and minds is a lot harder and takes a lot longer then changing laws and public policy.
Is it change I can believe in? It sure is. Is it something our nation can eventually achieve? Yes we can.

Oh and Tybee, I give you props for handling morons better then I often do.:applause:I probably would have said something like: "Are either of you guys good with cars? My Jewish friend and I are late to pick up my black wife and her asian brother-in-law before my best friend's Mexican wedding and we could really use your help."

Yeah that would have probably instigated something ugly.

Also, just as an aside, do you remember when ESPN had that town hall meeting for mike vick? It seemed like they just wrangled anyone who was willing to sit down for that town meeting and as a result it reflected poorly on atlanta. A lot of people thought that all people in atlanta were as rowdy and raucous as that crowd. Go figure.

Saw 3 Odin Spheres at the CC in Kennesaw (Barrett) and 1 in Acworth (Cobb Pkwy), no Dawn of Manas at either. They're behind other games - already have OS so have at them.

Random thoughts:

I have a crush on Dagmar Midcap (weatherwoman on CBS46).

Have you seen the Kaiser Permanente commercial with the kinda chubby boy talking about how his life was a mess, etc.? It's the perfect combo of funny and cute.

Hell to the yes. She is super fine...But not enough to make me watch CBS46 news. I'm a WSB guy. Glenn Burns ain't that sexy, but that HD weather gear is. ;)

But, of course, no discussion of local newscasts would be complete without this old chestnut:

According to that commercial, we're all neglecting our personal relationships!
The drinking was the worst. . .
 Yes! Plus the part where he's neglecting his friends. He's just sitting in front of the TV while the dog in the background couldn't look more sad. That advertising agency deserves an award.

I knew Dagmar was gorgeous but... It's silly for a grown man to be acting like this but...huzzah.

Yeah, when it comes to serious weather (like the tornadoes) it's WSB all the way. I didn't realize until then just how good their computer imaging was. I flipped over to 11Alive during the coverage and it was practically laughable by comparison.

ditto.

$16.96
They were all on the shelf marked as $40, but it scans at the right price.

Odin Sphere is totally off my radar, but everyone seems so hyped for it. RPG?

BrandsmartUSA has the following this weekend:
PS2
Grand Theft Auto: LCS 14.88
Guitar Hero 3 game only 38.88
Official Memory Card 2 pack (reb/blue) 28.88
WWE 2008 28.88

360
Mass Effect 44.88

Wii
SSBB 38.88
Zelda Twilight Princess 34.88

PS3
Rock band game only 44.88
40 Gig system 378.88

Why is it always .88 with these people?
Why is it always .88 with these people?
Because it sounds so sweet rolling off that announcer's tongue at 88 mph on the TV ads?

I dunno, but we were just joking about that place at lunch today... and now I'm considering a trip up there for GH3. Must resist.

Anyway, no Odin Sphere at Northpoint or Perimeter or Buckhead CC. Boooo!

At least I found Paper Mario:TTYD and that Pokemon game for GCN for $8.96 at the Buckhead store. They had Starfox Assault left at that price, too, along with a few other reasonably interesting titles. There was a Rock Band PS2 disc-only with a hand-written label marked at $29.99. Tempting, but I passed.

Also, one copy of ShadowOTC PS2 left at Northpoint Target for $10. I bought one. :) Also also, one copy of SOCOM 2 for $5. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars was $10 (2x, at least).

So, I really need to play Odin Sphere, it sounds like?

I just realized I didn't specify that GH3 looks to be game only as well. You could pick up a paper with their ad (saturday? friday?) and price match at a more local store. I've never actually been there although I've used their ad a few times.

I've also just remembered that GH3 disc-only for PS2 was also $40 at Target... so it's not really worth going to Brandsmart for the extra dollar off.

Found 2 Odin Spheres at the Gwinnett CC and picked both of them up specifically for the CAG community. I'm holding one specifically for the ATL CAGs and the other for everyone else. PM if you're interested :)

shnikies! 45 bucks for rock band game only sounds RIPE! i have been pondering pickin that up since the GH3 controller works for it and apparently activision doesnt give a shit about DLC. It was cool to have a local band I see out and about like Mastodon have a song on there, but it sucked to have to buy a freakin linkin park song just to get it.

Brandsmart has good deals though seriously. I got my HDTV there when the PS3 came out and got a pretty sweet price that I still haven't seen beat many times.

Anyone seen a deal on Orange Box PS3? I read on 1up that they finally patched it so it runs better, seems like a good time get a good price...

Odin Sphere was a 2D RPG that looked beautiful.
Very much desired by many of us. However it's an Atlus game which means low quantity. Almost insta-rare.

Haven't seen it on sale for PS3. I have it for the 360 and LOVE it. But I'll keep an eye out for you.

That price on Mass Effect is pretty sweet. May have to bite on that. Prices good through Sunday?

Prices effective Friday, Mar 28th - Thursday, Apr 3rd (except as noted)

I thought their deals were just thru Monday or something and not week long Fri-Thu. Guess I had them confused with Fry's.

Made a trip to Hiram, down to Douglasville and over to Cumberland. Saw 3-4 Odin Spheres at Hiram and Douglasville each and 1 Dawn of Mana left after I bought one at Cumberland (didn't check Cumberland for OS cuz once I found the Mana, I left. All marked incorrectly but they'll ring up at the clearance price.

Probably reflects their return policy. You have .88 seconds after leaving the store to return it lol.

Found an extra copy of the Williams Pinball game if anyone is interested. Might want to do a swap of one of the other clearance games from any of the stores, but I can also sell it.

Anybody see :360: Stranglehold for cheaper than $29.xx at Target in North Atlanta? Hoping to get one at the $14.xx price. Thx

North Druid Hills 14.98

Barrett Parkway Circuit City now has Odin Sphere for 11.36. There was one left (that I saw) as of about twenty minutes ago :) In the normal games, still marked as 39.99.
North Druid Hills 14.98
Thanks, seen a few around my area but they all are still scanning higher.

Has anyone been able to find either Supreme Commander or Supreme Commander Forged Alliance at the $7.48 price mark at their Targets?

The cheapest I've found SC for was $14.98 and I haven't even seen SCFA on clearance at any of my Targets yet. Yet the Target clearance thread is rampant with people who have found both for $7.48.

Thanks!

Anyone know of any Targets in the area with the signs for the Wii Pinball game for 13.98? Especially if its in the Northern burbs anywhere. Thanks!

Lots of those DS game and gear kits at the Mansell Wal-Mart now marked down to about $15. I got the last visible Starfox today, but there's a CRAPLOAD of EBAs, if anyone doesn't own that fine game. Also, a few each of Polarium, board games, and some ATV title. GBA kits, too.

They still haven't marked down the Wii Points. BOO.

To anyone who bought Stranglehold for $15 at the North Druid Hills Target, were the games behind the glass or in a clearance section?

They're on an endcap just beyond the games. At the end of printers or the like. If there aren't any there try the other endcaps as sometimes games pop up on the ones in the toy area.
