I haven't been reading anything about SFIV (just to keep myself in the dark), but this is the first time I've seen SFIV hate!
The reasons why sound like a bunch of fighting game theory to me, so I'm sure it'll still be a shitload of fun. and yeah, I'm aware of how un-hardcore that is.

edit: is that the TE box markman? I like how small it is!
No.

Guilty Gear is a game made for people who get off on frame counting.
In other words Koreans.
As JEKKI mentioned, what fighting game isn't heavy on frames. I know everyone here has at least played CVS2 for thirty seconds and seen how strict that game is on frames. Guilty Gear isn't the only guilty party here. All this bickering is silly. Not to start shit but all the bickering going back and forth is lame. Outside FG alum, I don't even know who the fuck anyone is in this thread anymore.

As some of the alum have mentioned, SFIV is an acquired taste. I took a handful of my friends out to SJSU late 08' to play and some liked it and some just weren't that impressed.

Also not to be a dick (as I am nowdays), but Flood....if you can use SAIII what tips would you need? Just learn Yun's BnB, Block Strings, Kara Cancel/Kara Cancel Palm, various Genei Jin setups, Command throw, etc etc..

I agree that SF4 is an acquired taste, although most I know liked it. I think out of all of us that have played it (about 6) only 1 of us wasn't feelin' it. I personally think it's great, but I haven't gotten to the point of breaking the game down yet. I played about 15 matches so far, so I've only very gently scratched the surface.

I just don't care that much about really getting deep into fighters anymore, though I still love playing the hell out of them online.

In some ways my standards have dropped. but in other ways, they've improved, as I'll probably never play DoA or Mortal Kombat again.

I wish there was a good online version of Guilty Gear. #Reload is online and BC, but that's probably the laggiest game I've ever played in my life.
I was kidding on the Gulity Gear guys, come on lighten up, you should know i'm never serious.
guess what was in those crates that you were moving in your beloved forklift in shenmue?

that's right.

guilty gear cabinets.
I still love DoA, its so much better then mortal kombat could ever be.
Totally agree. The DOA series may not be perfect, but it is a quality franchise with some excellent games to it's credit.

God no. It's a guessing game with that damn counter system.

And Apossum, you totally know that if DOA5 came out tomorrow, we'd both be playing that shit online like all damn day. And we'd feel like idiots for playing something that's so obviously ghetto.

it's not.

people think they can counter everything and that it's all RPS, and yea there's counters but it's not like every pro will counter everything

like in tekken, lows are good for mixups but people ain't like "YO MAN DON'T THROW LOWS 'CAUSE YOU BE PARRIED EEEERYTIME YO"

same with soul calibur
parries / counters are a timing and predictive measure, they're not the answer to everything

Yeah it's not about the counters like in DOA3 the pros are about cartwheeling over and over until you win then crying by yourself in the restroom because no one likes you and you play a shitty game.

GG's to Suko and OptionIV in SFHD.

To answer JEKKI's comment, I don't think I'll completely abandon SFHD. I really like it so I'll be going back and forth between HD and SFIV.

Yeah, it was an exaggeration, but I still really think that counter system is way too easy, and you can guess which counter to use with relative ease a little too often.

Man did I play a lotta DOA4.

Your personal views on DoA4 are valid. I back them up.

...Though no one can sway me from Xtrm Beach Volley 2
I'm down for the $19.99 price point if Ignition doesn't fuck up the port.
I'll be getting the XBLA version, but not until I get a fightpad.

Haven't picked up a Fightpad yet but plan on it just to check it out / have it as a spare for 2P if they don't wanna use an EX2.

I got

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=260353073926 this in the mail

today. Pretty dope. I got the Air Jordan one as well.

Also, the difference between MK and Dead or Alive is that Mortal Kombat has one legitimately good game in the franchise, while DoA doesn't have any. I mean DoA4 was okay, but it was nothing special. UMK3, on the other hand, is ballin'.
I got MK vs DC on it's way. fuckin took gamefly forever to send it.
I just got the European PS3 version of the game. I've only done story mode so far so no fatalities yet.
there isnt a single person who doesnt feel the same way.

SFIV is an acquired taste, the ppl who like it are the ones who invested crapload of time into it and convinced themselves it was a good game.

seriously guys, Feb 17, prepare to be disappointed lol.

at least, until the SFIV equivalent of Daigo v. JWong happens, then everybody will like SFIV again.
they won't be disappointed

marketing hype is too good

no disrespect, but the TE stick IS all hype, and me as a person who hates hype that really upsets me.

dont get me wrong, I think it's a fantastic product and got mine on pre-order, but most gamers consider the item as if it's a must have when at the end of the day they understand absolutely nothing about it. $150 is A LOT of money and I have no doubts kids will eventually let that $150 collect dust or immediately be like "ummm... what's so $150 about this?!?!"

like you pointed out earlier, the Play Magazine review on the standard stick is excellent. It comes off from the perfect perspective and with a perfect analysis of what a regular gamer should expect and want out of a product. It's a shame that gamers arent considering the product since gamers fail to think for themselves and let hype blind them all day.

seriously fukk gamers, I hate gamers. I still like games tho lol.

wise words... but hey, I wasn't doing a good enough job of hyping, I couldn't get TMK to buy one :(

lol.

But yea, SF4 is a hype machine. People will buy into the hype regardless. Capcom has been doing a crazy job marketing that shit.

End of the day, I want my Tekken 6.

GAMERS STAY TRUE!

ah man i should go to sleep

damn that is makin me rethink my TE stick preorder :bomb:
i keep tellin myself i'll like SFIV and if im gonna get an arcade stick why not get the best one so that'll be only one i need
edit: that and i could probably resell it for more if i regret my purchase:whistle2:#
So are you buyin into the hype of anti hype?!

HYPE!
:bomb::bomb::bomb:
but reading this on gaf

"Just get the TE.. if you get it and feel like you want the SE, you could probably sell the TE for more than you bought it for considering how much demand there is for one at this point"
along with
"Like I was saying in the 1up video, if this is your first stick the SE is fine, you can always upgrade the actual stick, but you wont have buyers remorse with the TE, thats for sure. I personally wouldn't switch the preorder but its up to you."
that doesnt sound too bad

Hey, we're all grown ups here (I think)...

Go with what YOU want. I don't think there is anyone that can/should lulz at someone's purchases/tastes ever. Do you, ya heard!

People think I'm stupid crazy for buying arcade sticks all the time... I don't give a fuk, I do what I like...

guess i'll stick with the TE then since its win-win
awesome product and if i feel i wont get use out of it i can resell it for even more $$$

that and if i do like it the TE, it will be the better option anyway since id have to spend extra to mod the SE to be better when i could just get the TE and not have to worry about it

..but you can actually play :)

I think (maybe) one of JEKKI's points is that people are getting hype over the stick and forgetting about skill level. Who knows maybe all those kids who bought the stick intending to play SFIV/SFHD hours on end to get better somehow get discouraged out of it. Then the TE becomes a $150 paper weight.

I know good equipment is always key to getting better, but I think part of it is that you should be concerned about your execution. If you can't DP on command on a $45 joystick that has a square gate, moving up to a stick triple that (again with a square gate) won't do much to help things. For the same reason I see a lot of sticks going up on Ebay months after for players blaming their execution on the components of the stick. Let's face it, as I mentioned, new players or casual players can get discouraged quickly. If they can't pull the same stuff on a D-Pad on a stick, they don't bother. I have a couple of friends that are like this and is the reason they stay away from sticks like the plague.

The "limited" numbers are definitely hyping up what is already a quality stick. Hell, as I told MarkMan the hype even got to me. I have a HRAP2 SA, a Sanwa Stick/Button Modded T5 Stick and a Custom Happ PSX/PS2 stick and I still considered the TE (even with it's PS3/PC only capabilities)

well for me all this hype actually has me interested in learning SFIV and fighting games in general im genuinely interested in getting good or at least being a good fight
