I just got suspended from Gamefaqs for saying that Smash Bros isn't a fighting game.
Now you're tempting me to go suicide my ancient Gamefaqs account.

This is what supposedly got me suspended because they're too retarded to have reading comprehension

"Join in on the fun and read why Smash is not a fighting game.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=197895"

I never state to invade the boards or even hint at it. I say they can read the argument there, yet it gets taken as FORUM INVASION.

I also got modded because my opinion was supposedly trolling despite not being in the smash board.

I've been on Game$$$s for nine years. Wow.

Is this in bad taste?

I actually like Smash Bros haha, I think it's pretty fun and I'm not elitist enough to hate on it.

Lotsa nerds do like it a bit too much though, I'm not gonna lie.

PS BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM IS AWESOME

I can admit the game is fun with friends, but it is NOT a fighting game. The best shoryuken post was when a smash player played someone playing SF2 HDR and the smasher said "Which button does the specials?" THAT is why fighting game fans hate Smash fans. That and they can't do anything more complicated then forward + button.
I already have you on Facebook, son.

Excuse me, but my fireballs aren't coming out with this character. I'm pressing forward and special, but he just keeps punching! Why can't i do those uppercuts or fireballs?!

And that image is also used to show supremacy over the 360, people claiming blazblue is better then SF4/KOFXII and probably message boards if used right.

And Markman, the smash community for the most part sucks. There's good people in it, but the disproportionate amount of bad ones make it not worth anything. Or at least anything resembling true fun. I can respect Power Stone since they're not claiming to be super deep, but Smash bros players say it with a straight face even. I honestly believe that Smash Bros players are trying to take the Troll crowns from Tonobou Itagaki and Ed Boon.

I think Smash IS deep though, i mean when it gets to that level, it can get just as crazy as any other fighting game. Especially with the reflex/skill/zoning you need to compete against someone that is THAT much better than you.

Real talk tho, I just hate those dumb fuck kids.

If you allow anything then yes there is a good amount of strategy. BUT if you go by Tourney rules the game is a neutered. YOU CAN'T ZONE! YOU MUST ENGAGE! What was once strategy, is now cheap.
I find that if you ignore the Brawl Kids, then Brawl becomes fun.
I find if you ignore smash bros players entirely, the level of intellect in conversation skyrockets exponentially.

I rather play Power Stone then Smash Bros in all honesty.
This man speaks the truth. *high-five*

Power Stone was awesome.
was? It still is man! What's wrong with you?

fuck Brawl.

That thread on SRK for Smash I find hilarious, only because I think the Smash people make better arguments than the SRK people. It only proves to me how dumb both Smash and FGD people are, mainly because the Smash people are trying to impress them for whatever reason.

I can argue for the legitimacy of Brawl, but I hate the game and its people.

where can i buy a triumvir sf shirt? i got an email that says there's a second release

i feel like flaunting my nerdness

Here's the problem.
Smash people LOOOOOOVE talking about how to defend their rules. Don't fall into their trap.

IMO, I'd say "STFU, it's how I play, it's how a lot of people want to play, and if you don't like it, you can play something else and we'll be cool."

Instead, you get "Well, see, the reason why we took out items and have stage select rules is to balance the inherent competitiveness of the game and by eliminating random options you actually gain other sorts of attack options to complement zoning and blah blah blah blah"

For AX I was talking to some guy over how to improve the Smash tourney since he was a tourney regular and some guy starts talking about how the viability of the Smash ball. They start arguing so I just walked away.

People think it's the game that they play that segregates them.
Nah. It's the community.

I get more joy out of telling them their game isn't a fighting game and that it's equal to horse shit. It also is funny because they can't play Virtua Fighter, King of Fighters, or any fighting game that requires precision. Well they can play Street Fighter IV but the only things they do is prove that it really is Ken Fighter IV.

It's just easier to tell them their game isn't a game.

Smash Brothers requires too many modifications to the default rules to be run in a tournament setting. It also does not have arcade roots like (I think), every other widely played, competitive fighting game. Those two elements knock it out of contention as a serious fighting game.

It's a fun, silly game to smash up your friends in when you just need to kill some time. It is not worthy to stand toe to toe as a fighting game with the likes of Street Fighter, KOF, Virtua Fighter, etc.
I wonder if he's gonna yell "SEEHIYAH!" while he fights?
He should fight the Red Ranger, Jose Canseco.

I'm bored, let me play devil's advocate.

Seriously who gives a damn if it's a fighting game or not.
People play it 1v1 with money on the line, I don't care if it's called a sports game or a casual game or John Wilkes Booth game or a Tecumseh game or Kirkland Signature Daily Multivitamins & Minerals game, bottom line is that its competitive.

I don't care if they can't play other fighting games. That's like calling baseball a fake sport because they can't play hockey or track and field at a serious level.

The mods are natural. No items, no stages which are random. I discovered those rules playing just with my brother and lo and behold, the tournament scene adopted them.

Arcades are only important in Japan and Korea, they're dead here and it's kinda cool to know that Smash is really a grassroots USA thing and not modeled after Japan scenes. The fact that it bloomed strictly on console is amazing.

It's a serious game if there's enough skill that can be tested. And after you play for 3 months, you still won't be able to scratch a top player and you'd be lucky to take a stock off, so that it makes it pretty serious.

sorry id idnt reply AxC i was backing up my ps3 hdd and upgrading it.

i havent touched SF4 in a longggggggg while... forgot who i last played.. was it u ? lolol

marvel is fucking up how i play.. oh well

Simply said as devil's advocate or not, I totally agree with you.

To the haters: Why let it get your panties in an uproar? Ignore Smashboards & don't bother with the troll topics on SRK. I just don't get why people let it bother them whether it's considered a fighting game or not.

Fact: Smash Bros requires skill to play (just like every other fighter.)
Fact: There are Smash players in the world that could also kick your ass in SF4.
Fact: The fighting game community has a lot of cornballs and morons too, just like the Smash community.

I haven't taken Smash seriously since like 2002, but I really do enjoy the game. I haven't played Brawl in like a year either, but I am interested in that modded version that has Roy in it, as well as balance patches.

Also: Anyone wanna sell me a Marvel PSN gameshare? or wanna play the 360 version with me?

I've only played HeavyD and Arikado, I need some more people to take for a ride~!

Well I know both me and Mark have experience running tourneys or even just having casuals.
It is a huuuuuuuuuuge bitch running them. You will receive complaints like no other. Set rules one way, complaints. Set them another way, complaints. And they will demand EVERYTHING from you, they will suck your soul dry.

"$5 entry with $2 venue fee? That $2 is a ripoff! We're hosting our own tournament at someone's house."

"Only 4 setups? WTF WE WANT MORE"

"I can't use my Wiimote? WHY NOT"

"They're playing 2v2 casuals and they're not letting me play! Make them switch it to FFA!"

"They're playing FFA and I want to play 1v1!"

"There's approximately 3 frames of lag!"
Seriously, the complaints against Smash are against the noisy and whiny community more than the actual game.

Also, the fact that it uses specialized equipment makes it really annoying. No other fighting game requires CRTs (because there's no 720p output, there's gonna be lag on an HDTV). No other fighting game plays on the Wii, and TvC doesn't count for now because the scene is small and because it's imported. You need to stock GC controllers which are no longer manufactured, not Wiimotes, not Nunchucks, not Joysticks.

Then you need to manually adjust and check the rules all the time. All the other games were fire and forget, I only had one issue when someone changed characters in SF4, but it was too late to do anything because he didn't bring it up when it happened. You have to account for double blind selection, stage counterpicking, keep track of who selects characters first. And sure it doesn't sound like a lot but when you have 1 or 2 people trying to run 4 setups and not all of them are aware of the rules (both Staff and entrants), it's quite difficult. It's made that much worse with the complaining, and it's really obvious when I hosted the tournaments.

I'm really lax. I've been running shit since the beginning of time.

Like I said, I don't mind the game/rules or whatever.

The people.

Yes. Again, the people.

Word.

I'm a professional though, I just deal with it.

And then I go home and talk shit online.

WORD

Oh yeah, Best Buy has the pre-order bonuses available for Tekken 6.

An art cell and a Paul Phoenix tattoo sleeve, with a scorpion and some flames.

Which is different from these:

How many tattoo sleeves are they pumping out!?

I'd only want the Dragunov/Bryan face scar one, but it'll never happen

this weekend it'd be nice to get some MvC2 and SFIV games down... I've kinda had a small 2D fighter bug but school has kept me busy.
