This. When an update pops up for a 360 game, I get ready for some downtime but it's always just a couple MB's at most. PSN updates feel like you're downloading another game...
In HDR's case, you are. :dunce:
In HDR's case, you are. :dunce:
For some reason, all PSN games are like this, no? You download the entire thing over and over again with the patches applied. Stupid, but apparently that's the way the system was designed.

As for retail game patches, it's hard to say... in the case of LBP, they changed/added a bunch of content so that's probably why they're so large. I know the Skyrim patches were ~100mb.

~20 hours into Kingdoms of Amalur split between two characters. Pretty solid game, really fun weapons and skills. Playing on hard though and the game is very much a cakewalk, so it gets old fast. Running everywhere kinda sucks too, and almost all the quests aren't worth doing save for the big faction ones where the bosses are at.

The only point I wanted to make about trilogies is that most do not end with the third being the best. There are plenty of exceptions, but a lot of the thirds pale in comparison to the 1st or the second.

Binary Domain is the Yakuza team making a new IP. Their demos generally sucks (look at Yakuza 3 demo) but their games are solid.

The characters in Binary Domain sort of had that House of The Dead character feel.

Which I liked.

This probably means Yakuza 5 isn't coming soon though

I did like that the team members called me out on picking the two women for my squad.

EDIT: frosty thanks for the link. You always bring the FGC links.
PSN+ auto download updates
True, but does no good when you put a game in for the first time and it has a bunch of updates that have to download and install before you can play it.

Man, I've fallen of the wagon in terms of not building up a backlog this generation due to getting the PS3 and getting some games off Goozex and cheap deals.

Just ordered a few more PS3 games. So now my backlog is:

PS3:

Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 3
Killzone 2
Killzone 3
Little Big Planet
Rage

Plus some free PSN + games: last 4 BTTF episodes, FFV, Far Cry 2, Simpsons

Xbox 360

Skyrim
Halo Anniversary
Forza 4 (think I'll just sell this one as I'm not huge in to racers).

And that's just the untouched games. I'm still early in my Mass Effect 2 replay on PS3, haven't touched any of the DLC for Gears 3, and never finished Heroes of Might and Magic on XBLA--and would have to start over due to losing my game save.

And ME3 will take priority over all that once it's out (and I've finished ME2).

I just found Quincy Sharp, and am heading to the GCPD lab to get my blood treated or cured or whatever. About how far am I in Arkham City, percentage wise?

Arkham City Question with some minor spoilers.

Eh...

Mostly?
My memory's fuzzy. You've done all the bullshit with Ra's, right? And you're off to see Dr. Freeze to make the cure?

70%?

And I shall say this:

Too often, sequels do not need to be. Portal was a single, self-contained story with a clear ending. There was no purpose behind Portal 2. There was no purpose behind Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. There was no purpose behind The Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (That reference, by the way? Vagina. Magnet.). These sequels feed on invented conflict like an unborn chick feeds on yolk. All the aliens are dead, and the heroes got away? Let's put one last alien on their ship! Riddick escapes the planet? Now he's part of some mullet-laden doomsday prophecy!

But a sequel that should be? A sequel with purpose? It grows fat and strong on wonder (also, bolded print). New Hope ended with the destruction of the Death Star and the celebration of a hero - but in the back of your mind? The Empire is still there, and it's pissed. Half-Life ended with the death of the Nihilanth and the closure of the Xen portals, but also the words: "I have recommended your services to my... employers." Granted, blatant sequel hooks can come across as clumsy, desperate, and greedy, and I'm not saying that each part of a series shouldn't have its own resolution, but I am saying that I don't know how to end this sentence so fuck you.

Without any sort of hook? Without leaving your player/viewer/reader with the thought, "Shiiiiit. What next?" Throw in a different protagonist and maybe setting and hope for the best. Worked for Silent Hill. Worked for George Romero for a while. Worked for Red Dead Redemption. And Red Steel 2. Don't know why the called it Red Steel 2, actually. I bet that cost it a lot of sales. Damn shame; it was alright.

As for thirds? Well. They're twice removed from the original. That's just double the chance to shit the bed. Double the chance to create something that does not need to be.

And of course, this breaks down when you're talking about games without any real narrative - Civilization or Madden or Sonic or whatthefuckever. For those sequels - for all sequels - there's still the wretched act of balancing "this is too different" with "this is the same god damn thing", and that game is rigged against the developer from the start.

Notable exceptions to the wankery above: Terminator 2 and Monkey Island 2. I preferred the first and third Monkey Islands, but I know a lot of people favour 2.

I've played, like, a combined half hour of all DMCs and Warcrafts. I keep meaning to give WC3 a try, but it just feels... unclean, in the Leviticus sense.
Game updates on PSN suck. Just put in LittleBigPlanet GOTY Edition I got from Goozex to test it out so I could leave feedback. Ton of updates that are looking like it will take 20-25 minutes (half done now at a little over 10 minutes).

Downloads aren't going super slow, just a bunch of them at 50-130MB apiece so far, and then it has to install each one.

Why the hell are game updates for PS3 games so big compared to the ones that come across Xbox Live that are usually only a few megabytes?
The updates to Socom 4 are the worst since it uses its own sever and they was extremely slow for me.

Modnation Racers is worse than the updates to LBP. I forgot how big the updates was total, but I want to say around 2 gigs. Seems like it was around 9 updates and some was 300-400 mb each.

I don't mean to add to your backlog, but if you haven't picked it up yet, I highly recommend that you get Flower at some point now that you have a PS3.
BlueScrote, what stretches do you do? I have some major soreness in my upper back and knee.

Oh and uh...go iOS games!
I do the stretches here, as well as hamstring stretches daily. Or at least I try to.
flower is a hard game to recommend with complete certainty.
True, but most people seem to like it, and I know dmaul likes games where he can relax.
I second the recommendation of Flower.

Just in time to pick up Journey next month.
I didn't realize Journey was out next month. I'm really looking forward to it.
Josh, I'd like to think that last night when you jumped into my super, I was controlling you with my mind.
Either that or Joel was channeling me.
I shall accept that you are not playing PST, but only because Nier is fucking baller.
it's so hard to get into those older games

i tried BG2 a while back too, wanted to kill myself

I'll third this Flower train, one of my favorite downloadable games of all time.

Did you have PST fully modded up?

Bigg's Widescreen mod 3.05 / 2011
GhostDog's PS:T UI mod v2.1 / 2010
PS:T Ultimate WeiDU Fixpack v4.12 /rev 2011
PS:T Unfinished Business v4.11 /rev 2011
Qwinn's PS:T Tweak Pack v4.11 /rev 2011

Looks about right. Only thing I use beside that is a portrait mod, and a few tweaks to minimize moonwalking and flickering.

I expect to see PST completed by the time I get back in August, young man.
Oh, and as far as the 3rd in a Trilogy not being good/great: Super Metroid. I Win. Forever.
lol

Im amused at the wit and entertainment of this whole thread. Cheers. :)

what? GTFO.

It's been at least 10 years since I played BG2.
I've not played Flower,
Maybe if it was on Steam,
I'd give it a shot.
But that wouldn't work
Because Flower is controlled
Using six-axis

Six-axis? So lame.
lWhat a fucking joke that is.
Not interested. :nottalking:
Sometimes six-axis
Can actually be good
When done properly.
Yeah, like Motorstorm,
Or the first Uncharted game,
So good that shit was.
If I was controlling you then you would have had a fantastic evening with your mom.

Edit: I HATED Flower. I fucking hated the shit out of flOw, too.

Okay this is a pretty stupid question, but what exactly is the lock switch on the TE Sticks supposed to do? All it appears to do is stop the guide button from working. Start/back/stick/buttons still work.

Which TE? SFIV Round 1? BlazBlue? SFIV Round 2? TE with edges cut off? etc.
Persona fans will pick this up day 1 then trade it in day 2 after getting their ass beat online.
I would never do such a thing.
