i didn't play any other the NGs besides the original on xbox but...

to me the game always underscored what's wrong with previews. they always talk about doing moves that cut limbs off and all the varied magic and multiple weapons

but when i actually played NG 99% of the time i would just use that izuna drop combo or some variant like that.

too much hype over things that don't matter
You're right. They only highlight things that are immediately obvious...but the real game has nothing to do with just beating group A to get to point B--it's actually all about your score and beating the timer in each fight. The scoring system is amazing and is the meat of the game. It keeps you from blowing through the game with only flying swallows and izuna drops, for one thing. ;)

but nobody knows this because game journalists basically never mention it when they talk about NG.

bah... the frickin' sound card that I need to get is only available at Newegg, and it's out of stock... oh well... don't need it for a while still.

Anyway, I'm glad that stupid paper is done for Econ... I've got some other stuff I gotta do this week, so I'm still not in 100% ultimate gaming mode, but I am playing some Command & Conquer 3 on the side. This is one of those rare good RTS games.

that reminds me of another issue i've been having lately. (not to implicate you or anything.)

in smash brothers brawl, if you spam an attack over and over, it does less damage / knockback. it's more apparent with pit's arrows or something but it could have a big effect if you overuse good smashes (like me and peach's fair... good damage dealer and good KO ability, but i always get damage reduction).

the justification was that "a real player is good with all the moves, not just one."

to which i have to reply, wtf. why is it on us to use all the moves? it's their fault for choosing a bunch of crappy moves and making one move really good. if they want us to use more of the moveset, then make the rest of it good!

which sound card is this?

That's just odd design...a good player should also be able to block a spammed attack.

it doesn't even have to be spammed. if you do something like fsmash, fsmash, bair, fair, dsmash, fsmash (all have to hit, no damage reduction for blocked moves), your last fsmash will still have a bunch of damage reduction.

-_-;

Unfortunately, teh onboard audio that comes with Asus motherboards is turrible. It's so bad that I can tell the difference with the broke-ass speakers I have now.
ah that sucks.
i bought an oem x-fi xtrememusic and wanted to mod it but i'd have to learn soldering techniques. so i was thinking about getting yet another soundcard strictly for listening to music and using the x-fi when i want to game so i can use EAX.

or i could get a receiver, digital coax to onboard and use that to listen to music...

or i could just learn to solder. =X

Does EAX really add that much to games? Is it it only beneficial when you're using 5.1? I dunno these things. The other potential option is this: http://www.auzentech.com/site/products/x-fi_prelude.php

which is the same price and has all the fancy X-Fi features. I guess I've gotta read more reviews before I make my decision.

But you see, kids? Reading and being informed is what lets you be the classiest individual out there.

Edit: from what I've heard though, the card I posted in this post apparently has some minor driver issues and it's maybe not quite as punchy as the other one.

EAX has the most advanced audio features. The problem is that fucking creative is lazy as hell with drivers and most of the time the cards cause problems with hardware. Espically with 64bit Windows.

I've heard that apart from EAX, though, the X-Fi chipset just isn't very good. It's like... good for boomy sound effects, but shit for letting you hear details.
Anybody here have Sega Superstars Tennis? Its awesome, if you like tennis, you should check it out.
Don't tell me that, I've been under the impression that it sucks and I don't need anything else on my buy list.

I do.

It is indeed awesome.

Yeah, EAX is good for games like battlefield where all you hear is explosions all the time.

I would personally go with one of the new ASUS cards. I have been hearing really good things about them, and they can emulate EAX.
I do.

Naw, mayng... as far as music goes, the two cards I posted are the absolute cream of the crop. I looked at Asus offerings briefly, but it's still definitely between the Auzentech and the HT Omega card.

Fun times. Sorta.

That's like...written in another language to me, but if I'm reading it right, you're telling me the game actively punishes good players. Stupid nintendo.

Ah I thought you were gonna run music through your HT setup.

For Music yes get those.

Yeah, the speakers I'm getting for my comp are way better than my HT ones, so music's going through the comp. I needz me every last drop of detail.

Just thought I'd share with GGT the Army of Two swag I picked up this evening:

Next week the guy is bringing Rock Band and said he'll have t's, drum sticks, guitar picks, and more. So I'll post whatever I get from that too and if I ever get the time I'll post my other shirts from this year (nba live, fifa street, march madness 08, skate)

Man, I just went to the freakin' student center to get some Gatorade because I need my sugar drinks and... there's a fuckin guitar hero club with like 5 people in it. What fuckin' losers.
WTF do random generic college kids not suck at?
Eh, the really popular stuff like GH and Halo... they still suck, but they can at least play it.

Also, random Beatoff Mania vid of the day:

How the heck do people memorize all that? I picked up the US version for like $15 at Target over the summer and suck horribly. I was hoping my guitar hero skills would translate, but beatmania is a whole nother world.

Well, that's like... one of the absolute most difficult songs on the highest difficulty setting. And that guy had autoplay on, just in case anyone thinks a human was playing that.

Alright, well I haven't touched it since October and never really got into it. So autoplay makes sense. But, I'm sure there are people who know full songs at that difficulty ala the kids with too much time on their hands so they memorize dragonforce on guitar hero.
So what I'm hearing is that I should go get this for $30 this week?
I'm not sure how the Wii version is, but I love the 360 version. A great part is online, which the Wii doesn't have, but for 30 it should be good. Hell, I paid 49 cents :D

and Inu, if you were showing any sort of interest, for $30 for the 360 its a must buy if you like Mario Tennis.

Man, I need to get to that store. If only for the model books! :)
If you find Yuma Asami or Rin Aoki I will pay you large sums of cash money for them...
No! I was first!

Anyway, Arcana Heart was delayed a couple days. I'm sad T.T

I'll look next time I go... lol. ^_^

For $30, I guess Arcana Heart is a worthwhile purchase... If anything it's going to raise the competitive draw of Arcana moreso in the US... there was already a competitive scene for it and now that it'll be easily attainable/accessible I'm sure more and more ppl will join the Arcana wagon..

I'm getting a copy but only to sell later on... you know how Atlus be...
