After playing enough GTA around 20 hours.

I can safely same its the same stupid mission structure and is so repetitive.
I think I can safely say its the most overrated game of all time, eclipsing OoT.

Back to the superior Lost Odyssey.
Yeah, I thought OoT was overrated, but I'm not a big Zelda fan.

Anyway, I'm getting worried because I checked my candidate info, and it said I wasn't scheduled to receive a degree? WTF, I passed the only class I needed, according to my counselors. However, it appears most of the site has updated to Summer 2008, so that could be why.

Wait, for the SNK Comp, the slowdown wasn't in the arcade version too? Not trying to be facetious--I just don't remember. With sum o' dem ole skoo' 2D games, it's hard to tell when the slowdown was there on purpose or not. :p

Did anyone ever finish Scurge:Hive? Was there ever a sequel announced? I'm actually interested to see what happens next, the game was pretty fun

From what I'm hearing, it's slowdown that definitely wasn't in the arcade versions. Fatal Fury is supposedly nearly-unplayable, though I suppose even if there were no slowdown, it'd still be unplayable thanks to the god-awful gameplay.

I got another Play-Asia package today, but this one was more exciting than the one yesterday that had Ouendan 2. This one had Metal Slug 6 and my two controller adapters for the Dreamcast. Which I'm stoked about, because I can finally get full enjoyment out of those fighting games!

But I won't bother with that now since it's Persona 3 time. Yeah!

I have a bad habit of getting hooked on challenging games, and Rondo of Swords is no exception. I haven't had my ass handed to me by a single (non-optional) map this badly in a long time.

By the way, I know I'm a bit late in saying this, but love the thread title.

I use to get hooked on challenging games, but once my backlog increased so much, I got to a point I just tossed them aside.

I'll probably play more Mario Kart Wii shortly.

*nods* I do that a lot these days with games I just flat-out get stuck on, especially certain platformers and beat-em-ups. Still have tons of patience for RTSes and SRPGs, though, and find them more addictive as well.

I wish Boom Blox wasn't $50. But any game 1up gives an A+ is worth it anyways. I might spend some of my first real paycheck on that.

1 final and 1 AP test down and only 3 papers, 1 presentation, 1 AP test, 1 project, and 4 finals left until I play video games again!

Just don't do them. Nothing bad will happen...probably.

Nice, going to pick up Call of Duty 4 for 360 for $30 from a guy on Craigslist... can finally get a superior copy of this great game ;) (and one that is Punkbuster free to boot... I'll never support that shit ever again).

Well, superior compared to the PC, at least... real glad I got rid of that version. I fear for Battlefield 3 when EA implments both Punkbuster AND Securom... holy shit, they might as well throw Starforce in there too.

I was originally never going to buy it, but tons of my friends convinced me, and once it went $40 on sale new, I decided to give it a shot. Glad I did. Despite not being a big FPS fan, I like it; however, I sometimes feel dizzy/get headaches while playing. :whistle2:(

Anyway, played all cups on Mario Kart Wii. Will play more later.
I absolutely LOVE Rainbow Road in the Wii version.

I know the feeling, which is why I have so many incomplete games. However, I always put Academics ahead of video games. If my homework isn't done, I'm not touching an RPG even if it's a brand new Xenosaga.
what about mass effect pc with their draconican drm

Man... while it sucks, that's almost saintly behavior compared to CoD 4.

I hadn't played CoD 4 on the PC in a few days, I go to play, and I'm getting kicked from EVERY SINGLE SERVER because of Punkbuster.

So I write Punkbuster, what the hell is going on, why am I getting banned, and they said it's because I was cheating, so I have a server wide ban on me?? I don't cheat at all, I haven't even played the game in a week, and now the game I paid $50 for I can't enjoy online?

PB and I went back and forth for a few days, they said there was nothing they could do for me, which is some bullshit. I tried every fix for PB that is online, none of them worked. After 3 days, suddenly CoD 4 started working again out of nowhere, but what's this? It deleted my rank and all of my unlocks.

The first server I went on, someone was blatantly using an aimbot, everyone was calling them about it, but did Punkbuster do it's job and ban them? Nope, absolutely not! A few people even mentioned that.

Punkbuster is just another lame form of security that doesn't work.

Not to mention, Infinity Ward is STILL holding back the latest 1.6 patch on the PC version, as well as saying "Maybe the PC version will get the map pack", "Hypothetically the map pack could come" and "Discussion are ongoing with the map pack".

Love the game, hate the developer, that's why I'm buying it from someone for $30 used so the developer won't see another cent from me.

I don't know about any of you, but today I just had to pick back up Super Mario Galaxy and play a couple of levels. It's still as awesome as I remembered it. I finished off 150cc in Mario Kart Wii, 1 starring every cup to get my last locked character (Which was a Pain in the butt to do).

I'm also finding myself trying to do 3 things at once in GTAIV. Car Stealing, Car Races and Stunt Jumps. The last one seems really finnicky to me. I can make a jump clearly, and it will say 'not good enough' while I can barely make it with another vehicle saying 'completed'. Design choices like that are puzzling to me.

Yo, if anyone in the GGT wants to throw down in Live, let me know sometime... I think I got all the popular games right now (except Rock Band).

Hm, do I take a break a from GTAIV and pop in some SNK Comp? Do I break open HoTD 2/3 or Williams Pinball for Wii?
I know the feeling, which is why I have so many incomplete games.
That's the other thing, I'll need to buy a game before I can play too because right now I don't have any games waiting for me. Right now I'm thinking Persona 3 FES, GTA IV (I'll most likely get this), Skate, or I might try a PS1 RPG or maybe go crazy and buy a PSP with some games.
Anyone know or know of a list of all the US PS2 Shmups?
It's a real small list.

R-Type Final
Gradius III + IV
Gradius V
Castle Shikigami 2
Taito Legends 2 has some shmups on it
So does one of the Capcom collections (maybe both?)
Mobile Light Force 2
Raiden 3

That's it, if memory serves correctly.

I don't think there's too many US PS2 shmups.

Off the top of my head:

Gradius V (awesome)
R-Type Final (awesome)
Shiki II
Mobile Light Force 2 (what was 1?)
Raiden III
Silpheed: Lost Planet (bleh)

There's more, but those are import only.

Edit: Roufus beat me, with the collections to boot (although those are pretty meh, IMO. I'd think those would be of interest only if you're a completist I guess).

You've gotta admit GGT, this is a badass game cover:

P.S. - Anyone up for some 4-player online co-op via the Haze demo coming out tomorrow? I'm free at 11PM EST.

Taito Legends 2 has some good shmups in it, and is a fine collection imo... Elevator Action Returns is a wonderful game.

Yeah, despite the fact that basically any SMT game pre-Persona 2 is bad (or at least, doesn't hold up today at all), the cover art for games like SMT if is badass. I really love the cover that Persona 2: Innocent Sin got, as well... shame it never came out in the US.

More than anything, I hope the Persona game rumored to hit the PSP is a compilation of Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. Could they make something better than that for the PSP? No.

I are killer! That is my character from RSV2. Crappy camera phone! I think I might be playing GTA IV soon! That last cheezmint is done and I can be happy with my 1k from it. Might retire RSV2 for a bit. Probably not.
COD4 on 360 is garbage.

Maps should be free.
We're past the point of free maps, sadly.

The only reason Infinity Ward hasn't released the maps on PC has been because, as the rumor goes, they are figuring out a way to charge people for them while not having them become pirated up the ass. All of this, and they keep delaying patch 1.6 for no reason at all. Plus, I hate Punkbuster badly, and will no longer support any game that uses it.

I will go get a copy of Sins of the Solar Empire asap though, to support PC developers who support the fans. I've already got Stalker: Clear Sky preloaded on Steam, before the unfortunate delay. So I'm not totally against PC gaming... just the 95% of developers who are raping it's body.

I would be really happy if they made that.

Sucks there's so few. I didn't even know Silpheed was a shmup. Worth the $4 GS charges for it?

I'll go for the Gradius games and R-Type though for sure.

If you're starving for Shmup action, I suggest importing PS2 games like Psyvariar 1&2, Dai Ou Jou, Mushihimesama, Ibara, ESPgaluda, Dodonpachi, etc...

Some are ports of the DC (?) versions, but hey, you can't go wrong with good bullet crazy games :D

I used to have a list of shmup games for the PS2, if I could only find it...

shmups on retail discs might just be a thing of the past real soon.

I'm going to be pushing for the purchase of Castle Shikigami 3 just on the offchance that it helps the chances of the Milestone Collection coming over.

ah thats right. I guess as long as they are being produced for arcades, there is the hope of a compilation or something, or compilation ports from older platforms.

I am still concerned about the future of new developments though. The situation cant possibly be looking good, despite the very low cost of making these games.

Hrm... well I just finished Persona 3 (The Journey.) Damn good game. It's weird though, coz the game gets really depressing near the end for a number of reasons. Anyway, I think I'll wait a bit to get into The Answer, since I spent so much time on the game... I mean, I did play through the entire damn game in a week, which is just a ridiculous amount of time.

I actually dunno what I'll do with my time now, since basically, every day since school got out, I've spent 8 hours or so on the game.
360? On live? rlly?

Either way, I suggest playing shmups on PC, there's just no end to them :D

Might I suggest all the Shanghai Alice games? :twoguns:

Extra, extra, read all about it!
Eh, the Shanghai Alice games have bullet patterns and nothing more. The presentation is soooooo bland on those things.

The Answer is a pain in the ass.

I can't believe how much harder it is than The Journey.

I'm wondering just how much more difficult it is, because I really didn't think The Journey was difficult at all... at least, not by SMT standards. By FF standards, it was tough...

They are shmups, they are fun, and I can't avoid dying on those phantom extra levels

There were a couple old arcade shooters I loved to play, those Aero Fighter games and 19xx. I could never beat them without coughing up another quarter or two though..

Only shmup I played in arcades was Strikers 1945... this was in... let's see... 2000. And that game was off tha chain! Of course, I'm not so sure that the Strikers games are particularly good now, and they would probably pale in comparison to the stuff I'm used to now like Mushihime and Ibara.
