GGT #85 Hordes Games and Sells Them For Profit!
Build your own. Just use MDF (wood). There are a ton of guides and sites out there to give you help, ideas, etc. Get good at it then make them and sell them if you want to justify costs =).
Lol. Did you see the one I linked? 20 Shipped!

A wood one does sound pretty cool though, if I used that nice dark cherry colored wood I love.
In disc-based games I'd agree with you. But in the downloadable games, with their floating price points, that's harder to nail down.

You can see this glass 1/2 empty and say they're charging extra for what should've been in the game originally.

You can also see this glass as 1/2 full, and say that they're allowing you to get only as much as you want. Don't want Protoman? Great! Save yourself $2.

The problem is, unlike disc games and their standard MSRP, we don't know what the price would've been with all this concept. If MM9 a $60 online FPS with only 4 maps and a 10 map pack available day 1 for $15, or is it a $20 budget FPS with a $15 map pack addon? There's quite the difference there.
Best rebuttal I've heard all day.
I love all the Nintendo hate around here. The Wii is the new PS3. It's hip to be down!
There's a very good reason that Nintendo is so hated right now and has been stated several times now.
There's a very good reason that Nintendo is so hated right now and has been stated several times now.
Because they're broadening their market? Because people are hurt that a company isn't using all of their resources to pander to their narrow interests? Because the Wii has produced the most solid entries in the 3D Mario and Mario Kart series? Because Nintendo has made all core games on all systems cease to exist? Because they're now the only company left who thinks you shouldn't have to have all of your systems hooked up to play the games you already own? Because they're making money while everyone else is hemmoraging it?

I love the 360 and PS3, but to completely disregard the Wii, or to be actively angry about it is silly at best.

More because of the fact they're abandoning a market that has supported them through the generations. Whether or not Mario and Mario Kart are the best on the Wii is debatable. It'd be nice if we didn't have to have all our systems hooked up, I'm glad they're supporting that. Oh wait, they're not, they want us to pay out the ass for their VC games and don't really give a crap about whether or not we have our old systems hooked up. If Nintendo were just broadening their market, I don't think they'd of abandoned the market that kept them alive so easily.
I love the 360 and PS3, but to completely disregard the Wii, or to be actively angry about it is silly at best.
Not exactly hard to disregard the Wii looking at the game library for it. Actively angry? Don't know who that comment was directed at.

Zelda, Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Smash Bros. How exactly are they "abandoning" the core crowd?

I'm not saying that there's been a lot real recently to be super hyped for from our point of view, but that's because those games take time. They're working on the next segment for most of their core series, no doubt. Polish doesn't happen overnight. If they've done anything wrong by us, they've given us too much up front that was quality.

Drought != abandoning the core market.

My beef right now is with most 3rd parties not stepping up and producing anything but pure crap and shovelware. This is their time to shine among us, the core gamers, when the 1st party titles aren't flowing. They did pretty well capitalizing once Nintendo reign of AAA DS titles trailed off. But they've almost all dropped the ball with the Wii.

It's because they've told us all to go fuck ourselves repeatedly. I'm sorry if I'm not going to support them for telling me to stick it up my ass and than saying, "BUT NOW YOU CAN PLAY WII SPORTS...AT A RESORT!!!"

It's because now I have to deal with games like Fatal Frame 4, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Monster Hunter 3, etc. on a shitty console that can barely do 480p and aren't even in widescreen a lot of the time. I don't care what Nintendo does with its core games. Honestly, I never liked any of them. I do care when they take games from franchises I like and force them to have shitty graphics, shitty controls, shitty online, and other things the Wii sucks ass at doing.

I'm not angry about it. It just wasn't for me and I ditched it. Hated the motion controls, lack of HD once I bought an HD TV and hate casual games. Tack on that I've grown pretty sick of Nintendo franchises and mainly play FPS and western RPGs these days and I had not reason not to disregard it completely.

There's no doubt Nintendo has made a killing, but I hate motion controls and really hope sony and MS don't go that route next gen.

I'm not worried casual games will take over, the 360 and PS3 have shown there's still a large market for them, so I couldn't give a shit less if Nintendo continues to ignore core gamers and focus on soccer moms and non-gamers. I just hope the motion controls don't catch on and become the norm.

I want to just lounge on the couch and press buttons. Games are my down time.

Mario Kart Wii sucked I thought (just played it a couple weeks ago). Galaxy was good, but no where near as good as SMW or SMB3.

Also? Nintendo's Wii Douchebaggery is affecting the other consoles. Hello, Avatars.

Don't worry, I place equal blame on casual gamers, lazy companies, and Nintendo.

Sure, some of those games came out when I still liked the Wii and I was glad Nintendo was still paying attention to us. Though to have been promised games for the core gamers months before their press conference then slap us in the face was just cruel. An announcement of any new core game would of been nice, anything at all would of been appreciated. I also liked Reggie's response when he was asked about the core audience and he responded "We have Animal Crossing on the Wii and GTA on the DS!" How about all the negative comments Nintendo had made towards us ever since the Wii launch. I don't think this Nintendo hate is unjustified in any way. I used to love Nintendo and practically worshipped them for bringing life into the game industry. Now...

Makes sense to me. If people buy shit, companies will keep making shit. If Nintendo didn't make a shitty console I'd be playing FF4 in HD.

Should Nintendo say, "We've pulled everyone off the next Mario platformer to work on Wii Fit 2" I'd be right with you. But just because nothing is far enough along to show yet doesn't mean they've stopped making those games; they're simply going in cycles.

There is, of course, no defending that horrid E3 press conference. Of course, the same goes for Microsoft and Sony as well.
Makes sense to me. If people buy shit, companies will keep making shit. If Nintendo didn't make a shitty console I'd be playing FF4 in HD.
So graphics = win. Gotchya. Hope you didn't play much PS2 last gen. Yucky! Nothing good comes from second or third best shinies!!

Problem is that even if third parties put in the effort the game will have shitty SD graphics, probably motion controls (which again I hate), or just crappy controls due to lacking a standard controller packed in the console, and no online or crappy online do to Nintendo shitty system.

So Nintendo made a console that can't play the types of games I enjoy these days. Again, I don't really care as the 360 has more games I want to play than I can keep up with so I had no problem just disregarding the Wii.

My only worry is to see motion controls become the norm across the board in the future. Nintendo can do whatever they want, I'm sick of their franchises and thus have no need to own their hardware in the future.

So you're saying that between the 3 main consoles last gen, there was as big a graphical gap as there is between the Wii and the 360/PS3? Nice try.

Should Sony and Microsoft turn a wholly Wii Fit-esque focus down the line, without anything made for us, the condemnation of Nintendo for changing rather than simply broadening the market is probably justified. The problem is, neither Sony, nor Microsoft, nor Nintendo seems to have given up on that market at all. Nintendo is supplementing their normal droughts with stuff that doesn't appeal to us. That doesn't make the wait inbetween Zelda games any shorter or longer than it ever has been.

Of course, there's far fewer nicer looking games on the system because every company is just plopping crap out to make a quick buck. Which brings us back to the previous problem.

Does Nintendo even have any quality control for this type of thing or do they just not care?
Does Nintendo even have any quality control for this type of thing or do they just not care?
They don't care, just like Microsoft and Sony don't care either, unless it's quality stuff by a company like Working Designs, then Sony cared a lot!

I don't know about SCEA, they seemed like they were pretty fucking picky when it came to the PS2, not always in a good way though. Not to mention they wouldn't let Charlie's Angels be released here for the PS2. So they have some sense.

"No 2D game for you!"

Reasons I still have a Wii:

My kids enjoy it.
It can play the remaining GCN games I own.
There's some fun games for VC that I like.
There's some fun games for Wiiware that are out now and coming out later.
There's some core Wii games I like (House of Dead, Ghost Squad, RE4, SMG, Zack N Wiki, SSBB, Mario Kart to name a few), and a few others that are on the horizon (TvC mainly).

Things I don't like about Wii:

No HD. Srsly Nintendo, WTF. You did that just to shave a few bucks off?
Too much shovelware.
HDD space...come on now, you want us to download all this shit with that puny flash drive?
Not enough "core gamer" games. No sorry, Animal Crossing doesn't cut it. It's been two years, argh. What're they doing over there besides printing money?

Edit: forgot one of my biggest pet peeves about the Wii--the motion controls are imprecise and tiring. I wish all games had a viable alternative to Wiimote controls as not every game really needs 'em.

It's been real you all. It was nice proving the my opinions are fact and all your opinions are wrong. And that, thus, I have won the Internet.

I have to be up at 4:45 tomorrow for a conference. :bomb: Time for bed I guess.

Catch ya'll in a few days! :)
(See the Working Designs reference above...)
Ah hell, now I have to go and see who they are.

...

No wonder I never heard of them. Just by looking at all the games they published I'm not surprised I didn't know about them.
Good gameplay + best graphics= win. And with the limited time for gaming I have, I only play the best of the best of what interests me. I have no time for games that look good and play like crap, or play good but look like crap. I don't care about missing some great games, that's just inevitable since I'll never have time to play them all with out giving up other hobbies I like more than gaming.
And that's fair enough. That's not entirely my point. I don't want motion controls. Period. It's not just hating Wii Sports, Wii Fit etc. It's wanting traditional controls.

I don't want to be playing Gears of War 3, Halo 4 or 5 etc. next gen with waggle and pointer controls.

That's the only thing that worries me about the Wii's success--that MS and Sony will put a big focus on motion controls next gen irrespective of what happens with casual games.

I can't agree with that. Mario Galaxy was a jaggy mess on my HDTV and any 360 game I've played has looked vastly better.

I think I'm going to go tell my step dad to pick me up Street fighter anniversary instead of KoF. I just watched some match videos online and 3 looks damn fun.

Good news for all GGTers

Ok, to make things easy on me and thing interesting here we go:

I'd like input on the GGT game. To make it interesting I am forcing any of you to at least be creative by limitations... here are the limitations:

- Must be realistic for me to develop within a month (ie. I'm the only one making it + I'm busy with college work) >_< unless others decide to chip in on some of the assets like art and whatnot)
- Must be strictly 2D
- To make it easy on me, character/1P movement is strictly mouse movement and mouse button clicking (unless using additional buttons won't complicate it)
- Arcadey... nothing with a narrative or whatever
- Simple but fun
- Don't overcomplicate something

Here's what I will be doing (or at least shooting for):
- Absurdity is a plus
- I need a JEKKI baby in the game (even if it dosn't fit I'll throw one in)
- I will try as hard as I can to make every GGT regular to have some sort representation in the game

if I don't see any good concepts (which I doubt) I'll either have a redo or just go with one of my own ideas. If you have drawn illustations (yes, even MS Paint ones or even scratch paper scans) please post those as I'd rather look at visual info than read a paragraph.

keep me posted.
- I need a JEKKI baby in the game (even if it dosn't fit I'll throw one in)
whooo! BABY!

minqli.jpg

I downloaded MM9 rite when I got home!!

havent played it yet tho... do I wanna do that or Yakuza 2?!?!

it's like the highlander... coz there can only be ONE!!

what to choose?!?!?!

a jekki baby riding a hamster with a knife on its back would be awesome.

Or if you ate jekki babies to gain back health ala the Executioners (super old Bloodlust software game...instead of jekki babies you ate midgets)

Using you know what to make the game? Only mouse though uh? I take it you'd be against using the keys on the keyboard then? If not, take a shot at a sidescrolling shooter. Only need the directional keys and maybe the space bar.

I'm open for people to go further than what I limit, and keyboard buttons are fine, but simplicity is key.

Also, I don't want people to just spout out crazy stuff right away, take time to think about stuff to give me a more solid idea to work with.
