Grammy nominated King Diamond screams "Metal Heads Unite!!"
Iced Earth have been shit for at least two albums, Blind Guardian's last album sucked, and so did D&W's.
I haven't heard much of BG after their first two albums and I don't think I want to. There's only so much lame power metal a man can take.

Thanks, can't believe I haven't heard anything about that for the three days it's been announced. I actually like Opeth and I'm glad to hear Enslaved is opening as I have heard good about them, still haven't looked into them though.

Yup, I'll be hitting up Opeth/Enslaved in Memphis. Cannibal Corpse/Obscura the month before.

And Cattle Decapitation in like a week.

Rwake/Black Blood Division/The Hanging last night. Great show, definitely the most packed I've seen Rwake's venue since they haven't played here in a while.

Anyone hear the new Cannibal Corpse album? Holy fuck it's badass. There are few bands that actually continually improve and damn this album shows it. It is really brutal.

yea its awesome!

came back from the Cynic/Meshuggah/Faceless show at The House of Blues Anaheim, California..heres the lowdown:

The Faceless - didnt show up..rumor has it the they got kicked out, other say they got kicked off the tour..ether way i was pissed cause i had to wait almost 2 hours for CYNIC to come on

Cynic - not impressive..boring..their equipment was all running like shit...you could totally tell they didnt want to play

Meshuggah - they are GODS!!! so awesome, they played all my favorites and they did right! Eveything was perfect! That 1 1/2 hrs they played was total bliss. Love them!

Meshuggah kicked off '09 for me in a great way!:D

Holy shit, Thrones is doing a show by me later this month. Support bands are weird as fuck, and I feel I'll have trouble convincing the missus to go, but it's fucking THRONES.

The Faceless was actually banned from playing at The House of Blues, Disney (they own House of Blues) deemed them inappropriate and awful Cynic & Spawn of Possession wannabes...

Also that sucks about Cynic, do you remember the setlist? How about the merch?

ah i see...makes sense XD

hmm Cynic...they blended it all into one long ass song, plus their sound was all wonky so i coulndn't tell which was which...i know for sure that the last song they played was Adam's Murmur

merch..no The Facless merch..the tour shirt (which i got) was of Meshuggah's Obzen and the tour dates on the back...the Cynic shirts they had were the ones you could find anywere, though i could of sworn i saw a tour shirt of them but not positive. t-shirts were $25. They had a kickass Meshuggah sweatshirt that was embroidered with Obzen but its was fucking $70. They also were selling a Cynic cd.

Cynic shirts you could find anywhere? Haha, you serious? Cynic shirts are hard to come by, the shirts from the Euro tours go for $80 easily on Ebay.
Anybody going to Scion Rock Fest? If so, fuck you...I was too late to RSVP... :(
I was also too fucking late. I've got a few friends who are going. Pretty lame.

Anyone local New York metallers? I'm going to be in Newburgh the last week of this month and I'm hoping to catch at least one really good show I wouldn't usually get around my area.. I may or may not trek to NYC.

Get a bottle of bourbon, some smokes, and steal a car...

Woot! I just checked Nile's site and they're coming to my city(Charlotte) in April. I can't wait! I haven't gone to a concert in probably 5 years and I think this might get me to break that streak.
Maybe, if any were coming within a 3 hr drive of me.
I can imagine since North American tour dates do tend to be on the coasts :grouphug:
Ghoul, Lethal Aggression, and DESTROYER 666 added to MDF!
Where did you discover this? I'm not finding any confirmation anywhere.

This was an idea I've been having. Anyway we could keep this thread up with 2009 metal releases? I'm so out of the loop but I'm trying to get back into it.

i think i might have to take a drive down south. bonus, its near my birthday, maybe i can get some free tickets from the gf.
That fest looks so shitty aside from Suffocation, Carcass, and Psycroptic
Not a Decrepit Birth fan? I figured you would be.

Well, Cattle Decapitation was a bust. I got kicked out for busting some jerk's nose like two minutes before they started playing. I saw Psyopus though.

Also, I'm really really liking this new Obscura album. Haven't enjoyed a tech-death album in awhile, this is amazing.
Whoa, what exactly happened? You bumped into him or did you guys fight?
He was a hardcore guy. I got shoved to the ground by the random friendly mosher, and this guy kicked me in the face while I was on the floor. Then he had the balls to brag to his friends about doing it on purpose, so I busted his nose a couple times. My eye's busted pretty bad, but security threw me out too fast to see his face.

I haven't really listened to Obscura but I'll be seeing them with Cannibal Corpse. Someone told me their name is straight from the Gorguts album.
Thanks for the heads up. I checked them out and they're pretty good. I'll have to pick up that album.
No problem, you should also check out Inepsy (you'll love them since I know you like Motorhead), Tombs (new album is pretty awesome), and Midnight. Been enjoying these bands lately.

SUNN O))) is proud to present their 7th studio album, after 10 years of existence, entitled Monoliths & Dimensions. The album showcases the core guitar duo - Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson - incorporating influences from a plethora of guest musicians, bringing the SUNN O))) sound to epic new levels. The band also collaborated with composer Eyvind Kang (notable for his work with John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, etc.) on various acoustic ensembles, in addition to the Helios fueled electric guitars and basses. Key players on the album include Australian guitar genius Oren Ambarchi, enigmatic Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Tormentor, etc.) and slow music godfather Dylan Carlson (Earth), as well as Julian Priester (worked with Sun Ra in the 50s, John Coltrane’s African Brass band, and Herbie Hancock’s Sextant band) and new-music horn player Stuart Dempster. There’s also an upright bass trio, French & English horns, harp & flute duo, piano, brass, reed & strings ensembles, and a Viennese woman’s choir led by Persian vocal savant Jessika Kenney.

The album is not “SUNN O))) with strings” or “metal meets orchestra” material. The band took an approach concentrating on more of allusion toward the timbre of feedback and the instruments involved, so the piece is really illusory, beautiful and not entirely linear, stating that the end product is “the most musical piece we’ve done, and also the heaviest, powerful and most abstract set of chords we’ve laid to tape” The album was recorded and mixed by Randall Dunn & Mell Dettmer at various points over the last 2 years, and will be released late May 2008.

Monoliths & Dimensions track listing:
Aghartha (17:34)
Big Church [megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért] (09:43)
Hunting & Gathering (Cydonia) (10:02)
Alice (16:21)

You know, I like Sunn - but if you have one of their records, don't you really have them all? They don't offer a whole lot in terms of "variation," in my opinion.

I agree with that haha, it's true of a lot of drone. At least Earth changes it up and keeps things interesting.

Found this after inspiration from your video above. Shoulda gone. I could have made the drive in under 8 hours easy. Shit shit shit. Probably not as bad as skipping out on seeing Warzone the week before Raybeez died, or the current resentment I have about making excuses for not going to see the Cramps a number of times. But...I'm really kicking myself for missing out on this show. fuck. fuck. fuck.

Ok cool I'll check it out. Believer the Christian thrash band? They were really good.

I always see Sunn O))) albums at the record shop but I've never checked them out. What other bands do they sound like?

Myke you ever seen Warzone live? I love Raybeez's singing. I remember the first time I heard it on this NYHC comp, I thought it was crazy. I can't find any of their albums though, which sucks.
