Grand Theft Auto IV - First Trailer 3/29/2007

I heard that the Rockstar people were considering using the same engine that was used in the Table tennis game. That would be interesting.

I always thought that the GTA series needed a graphical lift

As someone mentioned I hope they borrow ideas from games like Siants Row that worked well. The extra feature coupled with the depth of a GTA game would be amazing.

There's only one thing that will get me to buy this, after what felt like rehash after rehas of the last 3 (3, VC, SA):

- Online Multiplayer

I remember reading about that, but they weren't considering it. They had already started using it. And Rockstar recently stated they've been working with another company that specializes in motion and intelligence (I think). The article said they've been working together for months. I think Rockstar is going to blow us away with GTA IV.

i am going to purchase IV, because i've Been a gta fiend since gta2 (it may sound pitiful, but yea...)

ya when table tennis came out rockstar stated that it uses the same engine that
GTA IV will run on.
it was new york and miami.
New York and Chicago, I believe. Vice City was Miami and San Andreas was California (LA and San Fran) and Las Vegas, I believe.

the only connection to miami was that there is an actual place in Miami named Liberty City that is super rundown and full of crime... so it's mostly new york with some miami.

Oh yeah how about the place called little havana and little haiti and the beach thats looks just like miami beach and a few other things which i cant recall at the very moment

actually I'm refering to GTAIII and GTA Liberty City Stories.

You're thinking Vice City.

New York was already portrayed as Liberty City and personally, I don't think Rockstar is going to move the series into a real locale. I bet it's going to be out of the "USA," though.

After San Andreas, I can't see GTAIV being set in just ONE city. My guess is that it might contain Vice, Miami AND San Andreas as well as other cities.
I have a feeling that GTA 4 is gonna make everyone question how we ever played Saint's Row or Crackdown.
I hope it reaffirms my decision to skip those games(and others). GTA has been the only series to get the formula correct IMO.

I think we have to consider this as well:

Look at how much the gameplay expanded from 3 to SA.

I think we may see one of the most ridiculously sized maps ever with this game. Personally, I'm hoping we see some real suburbia type places (as opposed to like City and Rural in SA).
fuck New York

I want New Orleans.
That would be kinda mean going around and mugging katrina victims who already lost anything. You're going to hell! (jk)
Don't let it be like the MGS4 teaser from way back when! That would tell us nothing.
I dont think Rockstar does that. When I saw the first trailer for San Andreas it was the actual gameplay and not any edited CG or anything. Same thing for Vice City.

just think of all the crazy sidemissions they may add to this game...with all that power, this game could almost be oblivion-like in longevity

Going off of what I read in a recent EGM issue, I think we're going to see an incredibly detailed city and surrounding metropolitian area. That would be so much better than a less-remarkable state or tri-city area.

and we could be able to do as many things outside as we can inside buildings...that would be amazing...

I am insanely hyped up for the game as well as the trailer, and yet I don't even have any of the next-gen consoles!

I will be getting the PS3 when GTA 4 finally arrives this October.
Don't forget they have to ditch the lock on targeting system too.
I hope they do that too except for the drive & shoot squences. That was crazy difficult with SR.:wall:
gta: africa!

you can jack elephants and have multiple wives!!
Actually, I believe South Africa has some of the highest carjackings in the world so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

I heard a few times at E3 last year about a GTA game taking place in the not-so-distant-future to allow for random ass vehicles. I assumed it was a joke, but who the hell knows anymore.

My vote? I tried to think of major cities not explored in the GTA (3rd person) universe, and I'm thinking it might be London + Paris + other random European cities. That, or Tokyo. The problem is that if they set it anywhere outside of the US, it'll get a bunch of flak for being racist since they play heavily on stereotypes (unless they make fun of the French which would go over fine with Americans I think).

A side note, it'd be a nice touch to have the entire town of Bullworth in GTA4 with all their little inhabitants. It'd be a lovely little tribute to their fans. :D

The guys who work on the GTA games are in Europe (Scotland, I believe) so if there's anyone better to make fun of Europeans, it's them. ;)

I doubt it as the GTA guys have always had a policy to not have kids in their games. References would be better, though maybe Jimmy grows up and is a supporting character in GTA4.

Maybe Bullworth Academy gets shut down or abandoned or the gates are locked, but the town still works. That way you could check out the school and the town and stuff but not worry about kids.

Maybe GTA4 will be like Fable or whatever it was that allows you to grow up into your character. Haha.. wow I can hear ol' Jack already..
I hope the trailer hits XBLM so I can watch it on my big tv.
Hope it hits PSN so I can watch it on my HDTV. :)

They already have that game in the works:

Anybody see the countdown commercial that they've put on TV now? It just came on here on FX at 2 AM PST and it's been about 4 minutes now. I'm starting to go mad with the clanking on the ticking counter. :D

Edit: I just found out that it's a full 30 minute commercial, which seems to tell me that there's much more to this trailer than meets the eye.

Here's a little taste of it from youtube and Kotaku:

Has anybody watched the whole thing?
