I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.

Also, the CAG Trade-In Value Tracker is now live and accessible from the main navigation.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
Hey guys figured I'd ask for some input. My brother's XBOX 360 that we bought back in November of 2008 is kind of starting to show some wear. The disc drive usually has a hard time reading games and comes up with "Disc is Unreadable" So I figured I'd try to go and trade it in and see if I can get away with getting 140$ for it. So now here's my dilemma.

I am going to give him MY 360 which I recently bought and works great, so that means I want to get a new one. So my question is what do you guys think I'm better off doing? Should I get an Arcade unit for 200$ and buy the 250gb for 130$ which ends up being 330$+tax. OR should I buy the Elite bundle, which costs 300$+tax and trade back in the ODST and Forza 3? According to the TIV, ODST is getting 9$ and Forza 3 is getting 16, so that's 25$ or so. Ugh such tough choices!
ODST + FORZA deal

If the hard drive size is important to you, then get the Arcade plus the hard drive. If not then get the Elite. You could get 25 for Forza 3 if you use that save $25 if you trade in certain games deal.

Well, I already have ODST and do not have Forza. Forza does not interest me neither so like I said, I would end up trading them in anyways. The 120gb GS refurb HDD is 90$ so I think just buying the Elite would probably be better overall.. Thanks for the input guys.

Has Vesperia become rare or something?

I haven't even played my copy. I am not trading it away for $20, but it's still interesting.
Hey guys... anybody know how thorough they are with checking to see if the Xbox 360 works before accepting the trade-in?

I have a launch 360 (I KNOW!) that still works 90% of the time just fine. I've never gotten red lights or whatnot. However; every once in a while, it recognizes the game disc in the drive as a DVD movie. And sometimes opening it and closing fixes the problem, and other times you have to turn it off then back on.

So... lets say I go in and it recognizes the game they put in the system as a DVD movie... Will they stop me right there? Will they try another game? Will they turn it on/off? I know it WILL eventually work... I'm just curious how lax they are...

Might as well trade-up now. I doubt I'll ever see much of a better deal.

Also, real quick... it's $90 + $50 = $140 WITHOUT the HDD, correct? I'd want to save the HDD till I get the Elite in my room so I can transfer saves.

Thanks all!
They were very thorough with mine he took the face plate off twice looking at the warranty sticker checking to see if it was refurbed i spent a good 10 mins of him testing it out

Was it the gamestop on sheppard near River Oaks? The manager there is sort of stickler. They try to refurb me for everything and then not say anything. Good thing I always come with spare games in the car. I wish that wasn't the closest one to my house.

For hardware that doesn't work or is finicky, do you guys tell them beforehand or let them discover it themselves? I guess they probably ask before they even hook it up. Just curious if I should say, "this PS3 doesn't play games anymore but otherwise works fine!" before handing it over or not.

The ODST and Forza that come with the Elite bundle aren't just regular copies of the game. It's some kind of 4-disc case. I'm not sure if you could trade that in.

It's not like making a guilty plea. If there's a chance that it might work it couldn't hurt to let them try it without telling them.

Overlord 2- 9
LEGO Batman/Pure Bundle- 5
Need for Speed: Undercover- 9
TMNT- 5 (refurb $2)

:ps3:
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa- 6

Added my refurbs in there for the last 2 trades, I believe it might be based on price ranges (i.e. 0-10=$2 and 11-20=$4).

Traded in some hardware:
XBOX 360 (first gen out of warranty, non HDMI)- 90 ($50 bonus)
Wired Headset- 5
20GB HD- 12 (figured now that you can use flash drives whats the point, less hassle then selling it)

Refurb fee is a add on at the end, so it does not affect edge and bonus credit from your games (i.e. I traded Super Mario Galaxy for $14 plus 40% promo for trading 6+ games and 10% edge equalling $21, then the $4 came off at the end total which was nice)

No i went to one on hollister

wow why did the tales TIV jump so much? i still have a sealed copy that i bought from amazon for $13.50 during a goldbox last year.
Let's say I'm at the register, a GS employee allowed my console to be traded-in, and the GS employee is now ringing up my RROD 360 total. If he manually takes out the hardware bonus, could I cancel my transaction then and there? It might piss them off, wouldn't it?
So, should I ask them ahead of time? And when--call the GS beforehand or ask an employee when I get to the GS in person?
I was searching through this thread to see if GameStop still takes RRoD 360 consoles. I don't care about any hardware bonus, I just want my RRoD off my hands.

Do you need to wipe your 360 HDD before trading it in, or will they do that? I just turned on my other 360, it got 4 red rings (the AV cable isn't plugged in--I took it off and modified it to use the component for audio on my PC speakers) and I really don't want to have to hook it up just to unhook it. If a HDD wipe is recommended, I'll do it though. It's probably the smart thing to do anyway--though I don't think there's anything on there anyway (I had bought a 120GB in 2008 and transferred everything over.)

So my extra 360 might as well be gotten rid of...I bought it new, but it was replaced once by MS (not RROD, disc drive error I think)...will that still get me the $80 base value? Works fine now.
Do you need to wipe your 360 HDD before trading it in, or will they do that?
I wan to know this too.

And another question, does anyone know if they will accept my TE arcade stick?

You should get $90 base value. With the PROMO a total of $140.

I just went ahead and wiped it. You just need the serial number to format it completely. That's in the system info screen. I figured what the hell.

However, as I was packing the system up, it was vertical on the floor. My 9 month son came crawling over and pushed it over while my hands were full of cables. If it red rings now when they test it...that will suck. It worked fine before.

I got quoted 20$ base for the Forza 3 and Halo 3 ODST bundle that comes with the Elite. I held on to it for now, might just trade it on here instead. Just thought I'd mention since I didn't see a listing for it. Also a note: they treat this trade in as ONE game and not two, I haven't opened it yet though so idk which would be more beneficial or if it's the same or not.. Just thought I'd mention that.

I have stuff I want to trade in, but my Edge card expired now. The last two years I used the game informer coupon to get it for $2. Are there any such coupons still floating around for the edge card only still? Thanks.

I have some questions about trading in for the hardware trade bonus I have a couple extra xbox 360's 1 that has been opened and the other is EXTREMELY beat up and is missing a piece off the bottom of the casing
BOTH work perfectly but will they takes these or no?
If someone would answer it would be greatly apreciated.
Also im assuming I would have to wait for the 25th to trade in right?

Probably $8...cant be $14, they sell it for $17.99. Hmmm, i just looked at the site and Soul Caliber is also $17.99 but gets $14 tiv, altho its a recent price drop. Expect the tiv on SC to drop anyday now. I should of picked up the copy i saw the other day from BBV...

Thanks for all the updating jp0213.

I didn't get a chance to trade in my systems today but tomorrow evening I will. Hopefully they don't adjust the TiV in the meantime. I want to go a bit before close so there won't be as many people in the store. I don't want to wait in line with two systems in my arms and clog up the lines while they test them.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts $6.00
Grand Theft Auto 4 $7.00
Lost Odyssey $7.00
The Bigs 2 $8.00

I need help, I traded in 6 games earlier today and I had a total of 180 on my edge card. I went to use the credit later in the day and there was $52 less on the card. This particular gamestop just opened up in the last 2 weeks, is it possible for gamestop employees to steal your credit?

Well I figured out how I lost the credit. With this particular gamestop it uses a dial modem to process credit cards and gamestop credit payments. Well my transaction was first denied for some reason and then went through the 2nd time, my card must have been charged 2 times because the amount that is missing is the same amount that was charged. I'll have to see what they can do for me.
