FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

I just traded mine in and the dude didn't even hook it up. Put the $140 on my edge card and I left.

Has anyone recently traded in :360:GTA: Episodes from Liberty City? The TIV ($11) hasn't been updated since 3/25, so I'm just wondering if it's changed.

Why isn't this thread a sticky? It's the official GS thread and constantly kept up to date thanks to jp. It's getting hard to find (even when it's on the front page) when there are 20 other GS threads floating around on the first page.

I'd say its for a couple reasons. I tend to roll over the thread when it hits 2000 posts and now that the database is in place and easier to maneuver and input this thread is slowly becoming unnecessary. That and all the values in here are in the database. I now pull updated values from the database and put them in the list and vice versa. Easy to pull the ones from the database thanks to the TIV Tracker page.

Oh yeah, updated lists and database.

That makes sense. I always forget about the database and just look for this thread.

BTW, I just called 2 stores and they quoted me $15 TIV for :360:GTA: Episodes. I think I may head up there so I'll verify.

edit: Confirmed

:360:GTA: Episodes from Liberty City - $15

Thanks for the confirmation. Will update here in a few minutes. I definitely want to thank everyone who posts in here and inputs their values in the database. I'm slowly seeing more and more people input their values into the database directly. Definitely cool. Of course, with that, you have people that feel the need to throw in garbage data. I've caught most of the junk values so far but definitely makes me wonder what kind of people would want to purposely try to screw up this tool that CheapyD and Super Programmer John have setup here. Just aggravating sometimes. Okay, I'm done ranting now.

I've got an important question: I got Assassin's Creed 2 and some other games I want to trade in to get $ for Splinter Cell.

Like there's that offer Gamestop has where you trade in a game on a list (which includes AC2) and get $25 towards any game $29.99 or above, but the problem is I won't have ALL of the $ up front for Splinter Cell, but I want to put my money in for that.

Same thing with those other games I want to trade in. They're having a 25% bonus trade in towards purchase of Splinter Cell, but I won't have all of the $ up front.

Would they still credit me with the $25 for Ac2 and the extra 25% for my other games, if I tell them that it's going down for Splinter Cell? Is it possible for them to do that? I was thinking that I'd put them down for a pre-order then as soon as I get enough money to actually get Splinter Cell swap the cash out and put it to SC, but the two times I've cancelled like that the GS employees always give me s**t, and it really pisses me off.

Trade-ins from today (I'll update the database after this post):

:360:Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise - $7.00
:360:Ninja Gaiden 2 - $5.00
:360:Rock Band 2 - $10.00
:360:Bully - $7.00

:ps3:Ratchet and Clank Future: ToD - $7.00

:ds:The World Ends With You - $5.25

so i see this trade 2 and get $25 towards a new game higher than $29.99 but then it says NET value, so wait does that mean if i trade in 2 games that normally would get more than $25 i just get crapped on? or would it give me the total trade in price along with taking the $25 off? Looking into getting dragon age awakening on the cheap

you get the normal tiv or the $25, whichever helps more.

What's the refurb fee for 360 consoles? Do they just give you $50 less for a RROD console, or is that what they charge if you're missing a controller or cables or something. Also, do they require the original box for console trade-ins?

I have a non HDMI Xenon that I might trade in if I can get $140 for it after the bonus.

Thanks for posting the $50 hardware bonus. I've had a second 360 since the $100 gift card Amazon deal last year. $140 sounds good to me for my old Xbox, I'll try and trade it in tomorrow. I might trade in an extra controller and my old battery packs and mics that I don't use anymore if they give a few dollars each for those still. I haven't traded anything in to Game Stop in years, but this deal's hot enough to do it.

you cant trade in rrod's to gamestop. they won't take the system if it's missing a controller, cables, or power brick. you don't need the original packaging.

One value for today:

:wii: Mario & Sonic At The Olympics - $10.75

I got $26.08 for it when trading for a new copy of Lunar Silver Star Harmony. Unfortunately they didn't have a completely new/sealed copy but the sticker peeled off the LE box cleanly and they kept the contents (PSP game case, CD, and some sort of cards) all still sealed behind the counter so that wasn't too bad.

This game wasn't available to purchase online when I checked so I figured I'd go for that one. I really couldn't think of anything else I wanted at this point (there are several $60 games I want but with the BBV sale and all the other games I've gotten recently I can wait for more of a drop than the $25 promo would give me).

Pretty sure its after promo depending on the controller traded in, so $80 or $90. (I'm too lazy to check the front page, but you can!)

Edge doesn't work on consoles (to my knowledge), just accessories and games. The $50 boost is just a promo.
Hmm, so what constitutes the $50 refurb fee listed by the TIV?
Broken disc drives, USB ports. Anything wrong with it BUT the RROD.

Well that wont work because it would be combing two promos. The only way to get it to work, and it would be a pain is to do the trade in of AC2 towards a game $29.99 and then return the game and get the credit back on your EDGE card. Then go in and trade the other games toward the purchase of SC:C and then use the credit on your Edge as well. That's about the only way to do it.

Updated lists and database.

Two questions:

1. Is the hardware bonus added automatically by the computer, or is it dependant on manual entry by the employee?

2. Is there any risk to the bonuses if doing the hardware trade-in and the game trade-ins in the same transaction? (I ask this because I once had an employee invoke the "offers cannot be combined" rule when trying to use a PURCHASE oriented coupon after getting a trade-in bonus.)

1) If you are IN warranty (3 years from purchase/manufacture date) call MS for repair.
EAstore refers to eastore.com, the online store for EA Games.

the PAX code was a code made available during PAXEAST (Penny Arcade Expo). It gave $20 off anything $40 and over (actually $39.90) at EAStore.com.

The Recycle Bank code was a code that you purchased once you had enough Recycle Bank points that gave you $15 off any 360 or PS3 game at EAstore.com.

Basically, if you had a recycle bank code, you could use it in combination with the PAX code and get a lot of games, really cheap. There were a couple of different glitches/exploits being used to maximize (sodomize?) the offer, but it's all rather moot; the PAX code no longer works and Recyclebank doesn't offer any EA codes any longer.
That was deal of the year for SURE!
I placed 2 orders for $25 each after coupons.
order 1: Battlefield Bad Company 2 :ps3: for $25
order 2: 2x Orange Box :360:, 2x Burnout Paradise :ps3:, brutal legend :360:, nfs prostreet :360:, nfs carbon :ps3:, mercenaries 2 :360:, Dead Space :360: (9 games) for $25.
or ~$3 a game!

Or you could calculate 10 games for $50 which means I paid $5 each, making BFBC2 a STEAL! Duplicates go to my brother.
I wasn't el hoardo on this, but man did I consider it.

WIN!

checked SC: Conviction today in store and was quoted $21 (boo)

also, wondering if people consider it is safe to wait until next week to trade in a 360 or if i should rush and do it now in fear of a tiv drop
Holy hell, is it just me, or does the Mass Effect value keep going up?
That person didn't post base TIV. At Gamestop, base TIV are ALWAYS in $.25 increments until you get under $2.

Traded in my old almost expired warranty 360 for $140, got a new Elite with Forza 3/ODST, sold the 120GB HDD to a friend, traded in a few games, so all in all I paid $56 for a new 360.

YEAH
That person didn't post base TIV. At Gamestop, base TIV are ALWAYS in $.25 increments until you get under $2.
You are correct and I edited my post.

The $9.80 (Fable II PH) and $12.60 (Mass Effect PH) totals was the 30% trade in of any Xbox 360 games and the Edge Card 10%.
