Guitar Hero: World Tour - Gen. Discussion & Info
So what's the warranty like on World Tour? If my cymbals break in 6 months am I okay?
If it's anything like Guitar Hero 3 and before it, try more so a month at BEST.

That fucking sucks. I would just keep using my RB1 set, but my guitar is screwy, and I have to use a shitty aftermarket kick pedal for the drums, so I'm gonna have to get one of the sets.

Really dissapointed, everything I've heard until now said the drums are great.
I just won a ION rockband Drum set. I'm hoping that it is compatible with Guitar Hero 4!
Congrats & Enjoy! how you do that?
I just won a ION rockband Drum set. I'm hoping that it is compatible with Guitar Hero 4!
It's not. It registers two hits at once causing you to fuck up a streak.
If you play on Expert and are getting this game, the RB drums do not work very well with GH WT.
I drum on hard, and am working my way up to expert.

Will it work the other way around and the Guitar Hero drums work well with RB? That's the one I really care about. In fact, I was just going to keep world tour sealed until I found a buyer, but I figured I'd go ahead and play the couple songs on it I'm dying to play.
If you play on Expert and are getting this game, the RB drums do not work very well with GH WT.
They work fine, you just can't enjoy the song, as you only get five inputs, not six.

Also, are the GH drums supposed to be 'bouncier'? Because a drumroll on RB is so unrealistic because it's so damn hard to do.

Wouldn't the cymbal add ons for rock band make World Tour playable with the rock band drums?

And I think I'll pick up a warranty at walmart for Guitar Hero (or whatever I buy) I think they're pretty cheap and that way if it fucks up all I have to do is return it.
Yeah she is but seriously?

Once you start shelling out that much cash for a toy, its about the time to buy a real guitar and learn to play it.

And I am fully against those people who also groan on about "learn to play real drums/guitar/ sing" but you start dropping 3-4-5 hundreds bucks on a video game instrument I think you have a slight problem.

Or you really rich to begin with.
I don't see it that way. If you play these games a TON like some of us do, you will surely get your money out of it. Sure, people can drop the "ION can be turned into a real drum kit" argument but honestly, how many people are going to do that? 1%? They are shelling out $300 for a video game peripheral and this is no different.

Got this at work today, may take it home and try it out, but meh, I don't think this game is for me. Only songs I want are Assassin and Beat It and to try out the new instruments, but I don't know if that warrants the $190 price tag.
Wouldn't the cymbal add ons for rock band make World Tour playable with the rock band drums?
The way I understand it, each cymbal (for the RB drumkit) is just a duplicate input for one of the existing pads. So if you get a yellow note in game, you could hit the yellow pad or the yellow cymbal and get the same result. It's "playable" with GH:WT but you'd still have to deal with the condensed charts. I could be wrong though!

Alright. I hope some reviews on the quality of the drums come out before the midnight release on saturday.

I just tried out Bass for the first time (after not really keeping up with the news for this game, as I prefer Rock Band over the Guitar Hero series), and after playing I definitely feel that the "open note" idea should not only have been scrapped from the game, but never thought of in the first place. It's awkward, un-fun, and makes me want to never play Bass on this game again.

Alright, just got done playing it for four hours straight or so with my friend and a few thoughts.
+The guitar is fucking amazing! Like the slider is nice for the solo's, but it's also just a nice feature as a replacement whammy (though isn't as strong in getting those star power points like the whammy though). The strum bar is also damn long and the neck fits in just fine and isn't wobbly at all when placed in (though time will tell if it'll stay fine that way). Only complaint I can give is that the whammy bar is long and will easily move out of hands reach when you don't notice.
+There are new guitar fret combinations, specificaly when there is a long fret you're holding down different notes will appear so you got to hit that while holding down the long fret.
+I Actually like the no strum bass notes for bass, it keeps bassist on toes though doesn't really amp difficulty up in anyway, it's just nice.
+The actual musician models for the game look awesome and really, really creepy...
+Some specific animations for each song and nice little continuity when camera switches around you can still see the singer doing his poses or whatever else in the background.
-The star power in this game is shitty. Everyone has to share a pot of star power and it lasts about 10 seconds for each player that uses it. That and time to time it's hard to tell how much is left so you're flipping your guitar back and forth like a jackass, thinking you still got starpower.
-The world tour mode in this is ass. Just got to go through a group of songs straight and can't choose them individually, plus got to use own goddamn money to play some setlists? What kinda fucking bands have to do that?! Seriously, it took forever to get the money just to play the goddamn Tool set, it's bullshit.
-The GHTunes with all the custom made songs I can already tell you is going to shit. So many people making half-assed songs just to get achievements that I can already say it's good idea on paper, but seeing it right there... You're better off trying to make your own good songs.
-The drums aren't as great as people say, mostly because of the cymbals. After awhile my friend had to literally hit the shit out of them to register a hit and even before that, you got to hit them dead center to get a note in.
-Making a band name is sooo tedious because the interface is awful plus can't make that long of a band name. So Murder City Machine Guns was reduced to Murder City Machine (couldn't even add a G or anything for Guns). But to get more specific, basically to make a band name you have to go through each letter on a long ass dial and to go to a space for your name you have to press down for the longest fucking time.
-Honestly, after awhile me and my friends got really bored. Like the beginning setlist is pretty damn boring and it stays boring for awhile because the songs you want take forever to get to or you got to pay (in the game to play) so alot of songs that are in Rock Band we literally groaned when we got to play them.
-The setlist in general for me didn't have many songs that got me excited to play, though it maybe a personal preference, but if you weren't excited to play a song in this or don't know the song in anycase...It won't be anymore fun to play.
-If you want to change the difficulty you're playing you got to basically go all the way back to the character select screen and do it from there. Not a huge complaint, but a bit too much effort for something they could do after choosing a song.
+/-You're either going to love the corny humor (the opening cinema) or you're going to find stupid (the dumb puns each real musician uses to say how great you are).

In short: didn't get to try single player modes, but I figure meat and potatoes of the game is really band mode. If you want just a more difficult of a guitar game, this is the best bet if Rock Band doesn't do it for you. Besides that the game...I almost want to say it goes through the motions, but there is no heart and soul in what it does. Like abunch of good ideas, but not enough to drag me away from Rock Band 2 (or even Rock Band 1). So if you got Rock Band 2 and love it, then there's no need to get this except for the guitar and only reason to go for this (besides guitar) is if you like the setlist, enjoy GH post-Harmonix or have actual excitement for the song creator. Other then that...Count me in as a bit disappointed.

Hmm, this should be useful for the other thread regarding RB2 vs. GHWT drums. I can't say I'm surprised. This is their first foray into drums - and as expected, they cut corners the same way RB1 did. Of course Harmonix had a year to adjust...Activision doesn't have the same luxury.

That's exactly how I felt when I played it. It just felt like a dumbed down, carbon copy of Rock Band.

Same here. My biggest complaint, however, is the layout on the screen. It would make more sense if the three drum pads had three tracks at the bottom, then a cymbal track on the far left of the screen and a cymbal track on the far right of the screen. I got used to it quickly, but only because I had to. I dunno. I liked the actual feel of the drums, though, but I would still prefer the Rock Band drums. The guitars weren't functioning in the demo unit I played, so I can't comment on them.

In the bass charts, there's a purple line that runs across (like the drum's yellow bass pedal in RB). When you see that, you strum the bass without holding down a note.
Sounds fun, but it's pretty difficult in some songs. Mostly Tool and some other harder ones.

By the way, bardock, how many venues did you end up paying for?
The only one I payed for was the Tool one.

So far, GH:WT has been a mediocre experience. Unfortunately I just got an early rental of the title so no new instruments to report. The world tour is pretty underwhelming. RB 2's is much much better. The soundtrack has been so-so. The songs you expect to be awful are awful (Coldplay for example) but the songs you expect to be kinda sweet are (Beat It, L'via L'viazquez is awesome) Honestly the worst part is all the repeat songs with RB 2. You would think they could have had a bit more variety. The only one I've paid for is Tool as well which was kinda dissapointing actually. If you have more questions ask and I'll try to get to em.
fuck I want to play drums so badly and both of these games just can't seem to make a decent set that will last.
By a real kit :):D:D

Hmm, the mediocre drums in this just swayed me to pick up RB2 unless some reports conflicting it come about. Very dissapointed, I was buying the pack just for the instruments.

I went to a different BestBuy today and tried a set of working drums. I don't know why you guys think you need to hit the cymbals really hard. Harder, yes, but it's not bad. I'm sticking with these for my RB playing.

^^ You're lucky to find one with a working set. I finally found one locally, but the disc in the PS3 was GH:Aerosmith. WTF?! I asked the BB associates, they told me "we've never had GH:WT".

This is when I was standing RIGHT in front of the display with 2 GH:WT instruments, and drumset. *shaking head*

Problem is you also need a guitarist/bassist that can play enough material. If you've played in a band, you know how rare it is to get truly skilled musicians. And I say this with my experience. A drummer better NOT be the best musician, b/c then the band is in trouble. When I was the least-experienced, it was a great. When I was the best (with guitarists who can "jam"), it was a horrible combination.

So you went out looking for a working GH WT drum set, and you report back that it isn't broken?
Cool.

My friend only ended up paying for one because he wanted to just open up all the songs (and the Tool one was the priciest so we didn't open that one while I was there), but it was the three or so song setlist with Tokio Hotel (he was just blindly picking).

Also Ted Nugent "Stranglehold" is LAST thing you want to play when your friend is falling asleep in the game and his son is complaining he wants to play something else...

Can always get the Ion or wait for that premium $150 set from Madcatz to come out...

I'm still holding my reservations on this one. A lot of people here seem to be negative towards the fact that a lot of songs are in Rock Band 2 or that it "has no soul". But personally I thought Rock Band lacked a lot of personality, with the generic characters and such. And it could be said that a lot of songs from Rock Band 2 are in GH:WT. I'm not counting DLC since I probably won't be buying much of it anyway. We'll see though. I might be disappointed in this one. I just hope not.

A lot of people will be saying whether or not the GH:WT drums are worth the "upgrade," but I just want to know how they stack up for someone who hasn't owned ANY drumset yet. If I am a first-time drum buyer, with all things being equal, do I go for GH:WT drums or RB2 drums - that's what I wanna know!

I'm sorry, what? Generic characters?

Did anyone that bought RB2 not make their own character? Who plays with default characters? And why are you focusing on the characters on-screen in a music game, anyway?

I'm getting the World Tour guitar bundle from yf360g. I was gonna return it and pick up the world tour bundle, but now I think I'm just going to keep it and pick up the rock band drums. I hope some more reports come in by tomorrow on the quality of the drums though.

Like I said the guitar is stupid good

Well, long as it doesn't have the Les Paul issues, but from what I played it wasn't wobbly or anything so alot more sturdy. Though should've tried it on Rock Band 2 if anything...

Yeah, it looks crazy good. It'll be a hassle returning it to amazon just to turn around and order it for the tripple, but I hope it's worth it.

I might go ahead and by the kit to try out the drums. If the cymbals are just crazy shitty, I'll return it under the grounds of it not working.

No, no...that's not what I mean at all. What i'm trying to say is that in Rock Band, there wasnt much variation amongst characters. It was weird because when I was playing Solo Tour quite a few times my lead singer looked exactly like my character. And you can't say that in Rock Band it's not easier to tell what's going on during gameplay. Take for example Foreplay/Long Time. There's long periods of time when pretty much nothing is going on and you're looking at the screen. These things kind of pop up. Also, it seems like any character you make in the game is pretty much the same stature. "Weight" is the equivalent of "let's make this guy's muscles bulge more".

I like Rock Band fine, but I thought Guitar Hero III had a lot more personality in its venues, varying note charts and even in the menu screens.
