Halo: Reach
Hey according to their update I am L33T 5%. Legendary solo achievement! I didn't think it would be so few people.
I think part of the reason is people might have started it on normal or heroic (like I did), and once they beat it, they haven't bothered to touch the legendary difficulty yet.

Legendary isn't tough it's just bullshit most of the time.

I beat it on Legendary but last night I literally tried that one mission, the easiest mission probably in the game, and I couldn't do it. Maybe I was just off last night I don't know.

I was almost to the end, right when that Elite with the force gun comes out I kill him and start moving up, apparently someone had shot the explosive tank on the right and as I'm walking by it, it blows me up and kills me. So fucking pissed.

Legendary is just really all about patience. Unfortunately, we're playing a game, and we want to have fun, so the last thing on our minds is being slow and steady. Plus, even when you're as careful as can be, the AI still gets you once and awhile. Nothing is more frustrating than peaking out for a single moment and getting stuck with a grenade or nailed with a blast from a fuel rod gun. Also, it seems like the AI allies in this game are utterly useless. Yeah, it isn't like we want them doing EVERYTHING, but I know I have been going back and trying to beat Halo 3 on legendary, and it seems like allies take out a lot more enemies than they do in Reach. It's just annoying to see Jorge pump a million chain gun rounds into a grunt and have him still standing.

For future reference, there is an exploit on Winter Contingency that people have been using to boost their commendation for beating a level without dying, and it did work yesterday for the daily challenge. So, if you're looking to boost, or if a similar challenges pops up, and you stupidly die (like I did), just use that. At the end of the level, save and quit when the screen turns black after you hit x. When you load up the campaign, you'll end up on the scoring recap screen. You can do this over and over again, and you get credit for beating the level without dying each time.

I agree, the AI in this game is probably the dumbest out of all the Halos, I find that to be confusing. When I played Legendary solo sometimes I wanted to be the gunner but 99% of the time the AI would just stop n the middle of the road and not go anywhere....what gives?!
I just ran through Winter Contingency on Legendary without dying and didn't get the challenge completed. Do you have to turn team scoring off or what?
Not to be THAT guy, but are you sure you didn't die? Your bungie record says you died when you were attempting to do that yesterday.
sorry to double post I just wanted to make sure I gave proper credit.

check the link below it worked for me and I did it on legendary and followed his directions. I also was offline when I successfully did it. and I completely support this method for all people having a hard time getting it.

thank you, and I believe this to be true because I didnt' even have the elite in view when I finally pulled this thing off. I am happy now and I can stop cursing out my friends out of jealousy
I did try this for a handful of successful assassinations after I saw this method previously, gave up shortly after it didn't work. Thanks for sharing though, I hope it helps someone :)

I saw that before, but figured bungie might reset your credits if you do it this way. Its a little cheap if you ask me, and your not playing the game right when doing this.

Its a huge waste of time, score attack is much more effective. I doubt bungie will reset people for it unless its used to abuse a daily/weekly challenge. Theyve stated that as long as youre playing the game youre not going to get reset. For that method, all youre doing is resuming a campaign. Its also such a small amount of points that is limited by the commendations attached to it.

Bungie has punished and will continue to punish people who manipulate things outside the game, such as the folks who got resets over screwing with network connections in order to reset daily challenges, so they could do them over and over again.

Is the exploit cheap? Of course. Lots of thing are cheap. Besides, I don't think I suggested anyone use it to level up the commendations. I was merely pointing that, if another challenge comes up about not dying, and you do die on Winter Contingency, you don't have to play through the whole level again if you don't want to. If Bungie is that upset about it, they can easily patch it. I'm sure by now they know all about it. It's been posted all over the web, and I severely doubt they honestly think people have really beat dozens or hundreds of campaign levels without dying.

personally, I don't like the idea of reloading a screen over and over again. not for the fear of getting reset or whatevers but the fact my xbox has to reload stuff is only rolling that console freeze die over and over and over again. there's plenty of ways to earn cR and have fun doing it. tbh, the rank cap has actually satied my drive to try and out rank my friends. If I really want to see myself in higher ranked armor, I play offline.

Some easy challenges today, which works well with the weekly one (complete all daily challenges in any given day). Got 3 of the 4 in an hour.

If anyone actually wants to 'play' through Winter Contingency, you can skip the building searches in the middle of the level by driving past all those areas straight to the besieged Marines. If you're quick/stealthy enough, you can probably run past all of the enemies between you and the first truck too.

You can pretty much avoid most of the fighting in the level. You can, indeed, run past all of the enemies in the beginning. When you encounter the first batch, just run to the right and up behind the wall. Then, you can just keep hugging the right of the level and avoid the enemies before the truck. The Elites right before the truck may notice you and take some shots, but it is unlikely they will kill you. After clearing the LZ and getting picked up, when you get dropped into the hot courtyard, simply sprint to wear Kat is. You can hide in there the whole time and take pot shots. Basically, the only dicey part of the level is dealing with the Elite that has the sword at the end, and that's only because those data severs keep popping out of the ground, giving him some cover while charging you. Usually, I let him start coming after me, I run to where Jorge is, and then I jump down into that little gap where the shotgun is. Then, I run back up top, and the Elite is too focused on Jorge to notice me.

I got all the challenges done for today, and this week. Problem was my campaign was lost, so i had to run through it from 2nd level to exodus to finally be able to finish all the challenges.

At first i felt a little cheated with how many real maps there were. I thought most of the forge maps they gave us were a crappy way to say here are some more maps. But Hemorrhage, Asylum, and The Cage are pretty fun. But i really dont like Paradiso, or Pinnacle.

I cant even remember the last time i played on reflection. Though i have been playing a lot of BTB, but sometimes i go with multiteam. I just checked my stats, i havent played on reflection since 10-7. WOW!

At the very least Hemorrhage shouldnt be considered a Forge map. Case could be made for others too.

I said in my previous posts I've died but that particular one I did not die unless selecting restart mission from beginning doesn't reset it then that would be why but I out of all the times I ran it I only survived it once cuz I was sucking yesterday.

I haven't done the campaign challenge today yet, can you just load a rally point to get it done or does it require some actual playing through the mission?

I thought the same thing about Flawless Cowboy farming, but there are Bungie posts saying that you won't be reset for it.
Goddamn there's so much fuckin camping in SWAT people are such scrubs.
LOL i think its funny when you see people crouched and walking around like thats going to help them any. They are easier to kill.
Only thing good about that update is MLG IMO. I'll finally have a real justification to keep the game passed LT Col.
Fixed for me, I can't wait until we actually have a real ranked playlist without this radar bullshit. Arena is virtually unplayable because of radar and certain armor abilities *cough* armor lock *cough*. I just love out dmring some kid and then he armor locks on me like a pussy and his buddy comes along and kills me. MLG playlist can't come soon enough.

Armor abilities are part of the game now man, get used to it. Sure there are some things I might change too, but we don't want a cut and paste of Halo 3 do we? I enjoy how the armor abilities effect combat and this is coming from someone who had 30000+ kills on Halo 2 and 3.

Yeah bro, fuckin' pussies using strategies and shit

What I don't get is, if you happen to hate Reach's MP so much, why do you play it? I've been playing some Halo 3 recently, and that community is still very active. So, go play Halo 3. The reality is, they took Reach in a different direction, and that's pretty much that.
You don't list your gamertag on CAG. You see a forum full of dudes posting about Halo Reach. Have you thought about trying to add some of them and partner up on multiplayer? May increase your enjoyment...
Well I just got a 360 honestly not that long ago, in June. I havn't actively played with a dedicated group of people since Socom 2/(and Confrontation until we realized the game was shit and wasn't going to get better). Infact the only 3 people I have on my FL are family, sad isn't it? But I mean I played with randoms in socom and made some good friends, so I thought I could do the same on live. But it hasn't happened really. My gamertag is tbhysgb if anyone wants to send a request.

It used to be that way in the beginning of Halo 2 before XBL was as popular as it is today. I remember playing BTB there and lot of people knew each other just from playing together/against each other and most people weren't such assholes. Nowadays, the XBL community just blows unless you're playing with friends/people you know.

LOL at today's challenges. 4500 points in less than 5 mins, Just load up oni sword base and do the target locater checkpoint trick and you can get two challenges out of the way real quick.

I need to stop editing on lack of sleep. I changed it from Halo 3 2.0 to Halo 3 v2 and back, everything looked cluttered.

For serious, though, I'm happy with the changes they made in Reach. I hated Halo 3, and I love Reach. Whether I just sucked at 3 and Reach is easier, I don't know, but I'm having fun and that's the point.

Hustletron, am I getting the wrong vibe from you, or are you one of those kinds of dudes that's all about being pro and getting pissed off when people don't meet your match expectations? "Scrubs" and all that.

Took about an hour, but just got the "If they came to hear me beg" achievement using some of the links posted in this thread. Thanks to those that posted the links.

I wonder this as well. I noticed I seem to do a little better on average but it hasn't been that big a difference I don't think. But a guy I played against last night mentioned this and he said he used to suck in halo 3 but is better in this. I think the abilities might help a little, but there's gotta be something else other than just constant play.

Ugh, what is the infatuation with Infection? Wanted to knock out a few quick challenges last night and getting a high number of kills in that mode is impossible. On the other hand Oddball just rakes in the kills, which is the game I got after Infection. Kinda balanced things out. lol

I think a lot of it has to do with matching you up evenly. A month in and I still haven't had a single lopsided match(ala Halo 3) where you'd get someone 15-20 levels higher than you that just owns the map.

I have had people that are quite a few ranks higher than me, but I think whatever is going on behind the scenes is the key. Or maybe Arena is keeping the higher ranked folks at bay for now.

So they're adding a Snipers playlist in a few days or so. Anyone else hope it includes Shotty/Snipers? I would love to get my favorite Halo 3 gametype back...
Goddamn there's so much fuckin camping in SWAT people are such scrubs.
Yes, and if you go to theater and view through the perspective of the highest scorer it is always a camper.

I also hate in SWAT when teammates are behind you and start sprinting... wtf! You can't tell if the person rapidly approaching from behind is friend or foe so you waste time and attention turning around.

Yeah, I think that's it. I'm still stinking--K/D is like .68 overall, somewhere around .8 in Rumble Pit (overall is lower from team objective where I focus on the objectives and not killing people/trying not to die). But a good bit better than the little I played Halo 3, or even the Modern Warfare games.

And I think it's mostly better match making. I usually choose the options for connection and skill, and I usually get people right around my rank and thus can hold my own a bit better and win the occasional match etc. instead of always being at the bottom of the score sheet.

I suppose if they made a SWAT game type where you were forced to move every X seconds or start to take damage or reveal your location on radar it would prevent camping, though as much as it frustrates me in SWAT against campers (or any gametype) it is a legitimate tactic. I'll admit to camping a gravity lift with the shotgun or sword just because it works. ...I'll run out of ammo, eventually.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the concept of SWAT and I like the gametype but people play it like such $$$$$$s, sure I would like them to play the game I want them to play but when they camp I have to counter with camping and I don't like camping.

Then factor in my suck ass team mates who for some reason CHOOSE SWAT knowing they are terrible.

I went 23 and 7 only kinda camping on asylum at the top of one of the sniper spawns then got picked off cuz they finally found me then went back to running and gunning.

I played only SWAT last night and constantly ran into people camping in corners and stuff then also factor in the terribad shit spawns this game has, I had whole teams spawning literally behind or in front of me, or it would spawn an enemy in front of me as I'm running towards where he spawned.

Anyone using the Xbox feedback system much with Reach? I'll "Avoid" anyone for quitting... my team, the other team, whatever. I probably left feedback for 10 quitters last night.

I'll mark someone "Avoid player" if they deliberately betray me in FF. i.e. One match on snipers, I picked up the fuel rod gun and was getting avg 2.5 killtacular's every wave. Didn't die all game, neither did spank nuts who was sniping from one of the rooftops. End of game, I saw him jetpacking toward me and I hid. He finally managed to position himself to snipe me. As the "well done spartans" announcement started I booted his punk ass. Seriously, why ruin a perfection for me...so he didn't get any credit for his match. Sucker. I'm all for ppl that want to be competitive but there's thousands of players, I can do without a few wet blankets.
Is there some trick to getting your Spartan's appearance to update on Bungie's site? Mine still looks like the plain default guy.
it's a known issue on bungie's overloaded servers but since it's a low priority they're not trying to address it as quickly as everything else. One thing I did notice is one of my friend's spartan's who he hasn't changed his armor or color scheme in weeks got updated. I change mine like everyday to go with the map for kick...never gets updated. At least my default is me wearing some shoulder pads and the recon helm.

we're hoping next update it'll get fixed for everyone if not a larger chunk of ppls.

? Why didn't you run away. It's not hard to run away from someone trying to betray you, given that there's no auto-aim on teammates
