Anybody interested in imports, EzyDVD is doing a 2 for 50 (or 25 a pop) sale for Universal titles.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/promo.zml?pid=647&ddat=1&dsal=1&dper=1

Import exclusive titles include

Rambo 1-3
The Holiday
Total Recall

And there is also non-combo versions of

Children Of Men
Smokin' Aces
American Werewolf In London
Miami Vice

for you combo haters.

The really nice thing is that the AUD is weaker than the US dollar. So I was able to grab Rambo: First Blood for only 27.23 AUD (US $22.39)
it seems though that some of the upcoming movies they have priced at 29 which isnt too bad if you use code on another movie..

they need to fix some of those 39.99 prices,,, i really want shooter
among other things... its there 3rd gen player and ive heard good reviews..

crap.. i thought this was there highest end player but forgot about the a35

Bear in mind, the XA2 will still remain their flagship player.

The REON processor in that thing is just unbeatable. (for in-player decodes at least)

FYI All DVDPlanet Transformer orders. There may have been a glitch that day as I just received a cancellation email from them regarding the order I placed for Transformers HD. I had to call in and have them re-place the order.

i did not know that.. i figured the latest players would have the latest and greatest tech

Only the high end player has the Reon processor, simply because it's expensive.

But don't worry too much about it, the Reon really only benefits upconversion, of which it is probably the best there is.

Apparantly the OCTOBERBOGO code for FYE has expired. Doesn't make much sense since it's 10/4 and it's supposed to be valid until 10/31. Maybe they pulled it due to people finding the glitch to get one item half off.

All true - However, if you do opt for the A35 (which is an AWESOME unit) and want the benefits of a REON processor, you could always look into AV receivers with that capability/chip built in. =)

so can anyone tell me whether the Toshiba HD-A30 HD DVD Player is going to be good for my Samsung 56" DLP TV w/1080p capabilities? or should i not be going for that kind of player...i'm just a little worried about any macroblocking...since im not as knowledgable as i should be about TVs and everything...someone please help!

fye is being pretty gay. it wont let me put knocked up and top gun in the cart together. and if i wanna buy knocked up by itself it wont let me pick budget shipping. i get an error message so its forcing me to pick standard shipping. sneaky bastards.

Macroblocking isn't an issue - they don't use the Faroudja chip and there hasn't been reports using the ABT chip.

The A30 will work wonderfully w/ the Samsung. Just bear in mind that like all the high-def players out there, there is a slight lemon rate (ie: Some aren't playing combo disks correctly) and that is easily fixed by sending it back for a new unit - which drives home the fact that you should buy this technology from a reputable dealer.

BB is convenient since they have the 30d exchange policy.
Valueelectronics is the bomb.
Amazon is great too (in terms of exchanges and such).

Good luck and welcome to high def. =)

Yeah you can, but they will just change it back to a $7 check. Once they get your rebate you will get the option to change it back to a $10 gift card.

Good luck on that. From what I've heard cancelling WB orders is like pulling teeth.

Warner damn well owes us who have waited THIS long before they finally decided to inform us of their "issues." And I mean far more than just a meager $10 off code too.

Really? I just called them, explained why I wanted to canceled and than 4 days later it was marked cancelled on the website.

People over at AVS are reporting Warner overnighting orders to try to catch up. That's pretty cool.

The combo disc issues shouldn't have you returning the PLAYER every time there is a problem - its the disc that is the issue. OR, the manufacturer will issue a firmware upgrade. I would not suggest bringing the player back everytime you have a problem with a disc

Well, yeah that's a given.

I'm referring to the reports that post consistent problems. It's very well discussed over at avsforum. But combo disks have been notorious for their problems - and practically speaking, not that many people need 'em/want them - hence one of the big companies dropping them after this year. My point in underlining BB is the fact that as much as we don't like them here, they do have a decent return/satisfaction policy and is a heck of lot more convenient than waiting for an online retailer to ship you one if you're impatient.

In fact, any answer anyone here is looking for that is remotely technical, you have a 99.99% chance of finding over there if we aren't able to help you here.

well i got my Toshiba A30 today...so im gonna hook it up and test it out :whistle2:D ASAP!

for those of you who have already bought it, if you take a look at the Toshiba A30 page...there has been a price change. it's now $299.88. i already called for my price adjustment and it's on it's way. sure glad i was surfin around on the page and just happened to see the price change :)

nice price on a30..

finally called warner to cancel that order.. hopefully that catch up soon as i need to reorder troy and haunted hill

so wait...i called for a price adjustment this afternoon when the price was at $299.88 and they said they would process it and get me a refund within a couple of days...does that mean it's still going to process?

and i seem to be getting a lot of fuzzy pixels when i play my new toshiba A30 on my Samsung DLP...could this be indicative of a need to calibrate it? or something wrong with the settings? or maybe something wrong with the player? i tried playing 300 on it and i just saw a lot of fuzzyness in terms of how pixelated it was...someone please help :(

300 has a lot of artificial grain in it. It did in the theater too. You may want to try a different movie if you want to see something sharp and clear.

PS - Many movies are suppose to have noise in it, which sounds like what you are describing.

LOL 10X.

Snyder added a bunch of digital grain to the film. It looks like bees are everywhere, it looks worse on your set because it's HD.

These are standouts-

Put in Hulk or Batman Begins. If you really want to show it off buy Matrix trilogy, Happy Feet, King Kong, or Corpse Bride(I think it's really the 1st 3D film, you dont need glasses for. Children of Men is pretty super detailed. But in general most of Warner's and Universal's newer movies are good bets.

ye bees would be a very accurate description of what i keep seeing. i'll try a couple other movies today and see what it comes up with :) thanks for putting my fears to rest!

are there any other good hd dvds to check out and test on my new HD DVD player that have the best picture over a lot of the other HD DVDs out there?

Hey guys, what are your experiences with FYE and their rebates? Any problem getting them? Also, do I have to send in the upc code with the rebate? (I would hate having to cut part of the case insert.)
Thanks in advance.

speaking of rebates...for the 5 free hd dvds...when they say you need to include the original UPC code in the envelope you send them...does that mean you need to cut the UPC part out of the original manufacturer's box the Toshiba came in?

Yes. Make sure you make copies of your filled out rebate form, your receipt and your UPC just in case.

FYE only wants your original order acknowledgement as well as the packing list that comes in the box when you get your item. I believe that they can be copies. No need to cut the UPC or Proof of Purchase off the cover art.

I bought an HD-A20 from Amazon. I couldn't find an actual UPC code that printed on the box but I did find a sticker on the box with UPC codes (not the shipping type either) but that's all I found. I couldn't get the sticker off without ripping the box and sticker so I just cut it out and sent it. I wasn't sure if there was a UPC code underneath the sticker. I hope that's good enough.

Thats all that I did with the UPC from my A-20 as well. Would rather damage a box than lose out on free stuff cuz my UPC wasn't intact.
did wb finally start shipping? they removed that notice on their page
I came home today to see my "Smallville" Season 6 sitting by my doorstep. Needless to say I just plowed through disc 1 and part of disc 2 tonight. :D
