Dover ROH Show review.

This was a FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC show hampered heavily by segments taped for upcoming movie The Wrestler. Since the spots were so well defined in the film as to where the crowd was supposed to cheer and boo, more people were willing to give it their all and by the end of the night, causing the audience to drain out of all energy.

The venue itself looked like a million bucks and it added to the presentation a dozen times over. There was a large, yet steeper, Raw-esque ramp leading down to the ring with thin, red movie theater-esque lights on top of it. It looked very slick for an indie production. At the top of the ramp, there was a slick new silver curtain which looked almost like Generico’s more fancy cape which shimmered with the light. Alongside the ramp on both sides were leveled seats that provided a clear view of the ring. There were no guardrails or anything and so if a fan wanted, they could easily reach out and shake hands with a wrestler. Unfortunately during the Necro/Delirious match, an overzealous kid ran up behind Lacey and scared the daylights out of her. He did the same thing to Daizee and later on got a talking to by the staff. He didn’t do it again. Nevertheless, the venue looked fantastic and I hope Ring of Honor runs there again.

The place was packed to capacity but as the night went on, more and more people began to file out. The Wrestler was fun for people like me who were ringside, but for people in general admission, some of them likely became bored with the filming and left early on. The cast and crew were respectful and courteous and generally tried to rush things along and although I can’t blame them for taking as long as they did, they would come out and do another take after every single match. As I said earlier, this took it’s toll on the audience. Think people forcing up Joe/Kobashi level heat again and again and again for at least an hour.
As for the matches themselves, I do not do star ratings. I will explain to you my experiences and I will hope that is good enough for you. These will fall under the “Bad”, “Meh”, “Good”, “Great”, and “Excellent” labels.

Roderick/Pelle
was a great opener. It was hotter than any number of New York openers and when it was said and done, Pelle looked like he had quite possibly been in a car wreck. His chest was literally turning black with the blood that was slipping out from under his skin. The finisher that Roderick used is going to be difficult to define but here I go. Imagine the setup for the Regal Stretch. The first part was exactly like that except Roderick set it up with his arms. Then he fell back with Pelle legs hooked together and started wrenching on his ankle. Once he did that, he applied a body scissors. And in between holding the body scissors, he would kick Pelle in the head. It was extremely complicated to define but it worked.

**MOVIE SPOILER — SCROLL DOWN TO SKIP**

Next, Randy the Ram (Mickey Rourke’s character) vs. The Ayatollah (Ernest “The Cat” Miller) was taped for the movie. The match, which was excellent in terms of live excitement, was I believe worked by a stunt double, who came out, shook hands with the fans, etc. The Ayatollah made his entrance first, with an Iranian fan, ensuring that he was booed to hell and cutting a heel promo. He got more heel heat than Nigel McGuinness. The match consisted of punches, kicks, a variation of hurricanranas, an over the top rope body press, and a flying headbutt. There was a spot where the referee was out and The Ayatollah attacked Randy with the flag only for Randy to destroy the flag pole and toss it away. He won with the flying headbutt. Afterwards Mickey Rourke came out and did a few scenes where they would use close-ups again and again. Namely after they did the over the top rope body press. They would have him look like he was falling on top of the referee and Miller and they would follow him around the ring.

**END OF MOVIE SPOILER**

Then there was the Stevens/Claudio/Whitmer/Nigel match and did Nigel look like a heel God out there or what? Just awesome stuff. First thing he did when he came out was to grab the mic and cut a promo that ended with him saying that the ROH World Title was on his ass (because he was wearing the belt backwards) and that we could just kiss it. Throughout the match he was jawing it up with the fans, and although a lot of people may say that it took away from the match, at this point the first bits of The Wrestler were already taking their toll on the fans and Nigel did a great job to alleviate that. He would pucker up at the fans with smug kissy faces, grab a hand full of his crotch and shake it around, and when one guy was calling Nigel out, Nigel went on to respond with, “Sit down before you fall down fatass.” Stevens didn’t do much other than ‘Choo choo’ and Whitmer worked momentarily with Nigel. The match ended when Nigel missed with the Jawbreaker and Claudio turned him around into a Ricola Bomb. Overall the match was good, mainly because of Nigel going positively apeshit with the crowd (which in its own way lead to his loss). Afterwards Claudio held the belt high above his head as the crowd chanted “NEXT WORLD CHAMP!” and then presented Nigel with the belt before leaving. I suspect Nigel will take Claudio out of the running tomorrow.

Next was Delirious/Necro. Once again, The Wrestler had sapped the energy out of the crowd before presenting them with this and it showed. The highlight of the match was when Necro attempted to kick Delirious and the lizard man bit Necro’s bare foot. Quite gross but memorable. Not much else memorable happened here. The ending came when Lacey tried to get involved and Daizee came out to stop her. Delirious got the pinfall via a rollup and afterwards both Delirious and Daziee stood in the ring. The Haze was staring at Lacey while Delirious started making kissy faces and putting out his tongue behind back in a ::wink:: ::wink:: ::nudge:: ::nudge:: way. Overall though the match was good.

Then came Vulture Squad/Team Work. During the entrace them of ‘Final Countdown’, Aries cut him off and went up in the corner for the chorus while Dragon just playfully let it be. Afterwards, Dragon got on the mic and was outright babyface saying that the match was being taped for something special. He went on to add that every time he did something, we should cheer. Then every time Aries did something, we should cheer. Then every time Ruckus did something, we should cheer. And when Jigsaw did something, we should tell him to put his mask back on. He went through the same bit again except saying that they would all go to the corner and people would cheer for them, except for Jigsaw, who would get a put your mask back on chant. Jigsaw refused to go to the corner and the match was on. Overall I would consider the Vulture Squad/Team Work to be a squash match. TVS barely got any offense in and for the majority of the match, Team Work took control. The audience was suddenly pulled to their feet when it turned out that Eddie Kingston was in attendance with a ticket, held back by the students, and berating Ruckus for not being with him, all of which lead to a Black Out chant. Finally as Smokes and Jigsaw were taken up with Eddie, Dragon/Aries locked on their MMA Elbows/Knees combo before Aries applied the Horns of Aries and got the tap out. Overall I think this match was good and it’ll probably come off even better on DVD with “Prozac” and Leonard selling Eddie’s arrival to the audience.

Here is where the audience fell apart. Try as they might, they could not get themselves together for the Shiozaki/Albright match. We busted out a “John Belushi” and “Toga!” chant that lead to Albright grabbing a mic and telling us to shut up or he would forfeit the match and leave. However the crowd ran out of energy to rib him any more and it got quiet. A lot Shiozaki chants came through and in my opinion, Shiozaki/Albright was better than I expected it to be. A lot of shoulder tackles, chops, and whatnot which again will probably come off a lot better at home than it did live. The match ended when Shiozaki caught Albright with a Superkick and got the pin with a Moonsault. Overall I’d say again that the match was good and enjoyable. Afterwards, Shiozaki held out his hand for Albright to shake it. Albright refused and started to leave. Suddenly he stopped on the apron when we chanted for a handshake and Albright returned to the ring.

And then came out Larry Sweeney along with Bobby Dempsey. I suddenly think I’m getting where this is going and I think I’m going to like it. Basically Sweeney came out in a prestigious looking white suit with his hair looking like he was going to the Oscars. He looked… gorgeous for lack of a better word. Anyway, he offers Albright his business card and suggests that Albright join Sweet and Sour Incorporated, Well Albright tears up the business card, tells Sweeney that “he doesn’t work for scumbags” and walks out. Well as Sweeney tries to make amends with Albright, telling Albright that he looks like a sushi kind of guy, suddenly Sarah Del Ray walks out and tells Sweeney that she is leaving Sweet and Sour Inc. and that, “Don’t call me. I’ll call you.” Ladies and gentlemen, I think the message here is quite understandable and quite frankly, I think when it’s all said and done, Bobby Dempsey may be Larry Sweeney’s only friend.

Next was Davey/Steen. This was a great, fun match. Steen was massive over and helped bring the crowd back into it while Davey got no reaction at all. Steen was completely heeling it up, going as far as to deliver two low blows to Davey, but still being treated like a face. At one point we begged Steen to throw Davey in our section after he had the done the same to Davey the section beside us. Well he goes “Fine! Get out of the way!” and we freeze for a second. Then he insists, “Do you want me to do it or not?! Well then get out of the way!” At this point we all leap out of seats and run away while Steen looks like he is going to toss Davey into the chairs only to shoot him in the ring and mention when we boo him, “Hey look! There’s two kids right there!” It was awesome. I would say this match got the third, if not second, most amount of heat for the night, mainly on Steen’s back. The end came when Steen landed the Package Piledriver on Davey and cut a promo saying that he would be a champion before year’s end, before name calling Nigel specifically.

The main event of The Briscoes vs. AotF (with Necro) was a meh affair. It was shown that Matthews could work the mic better when he called out the Briscoes for their match. However the crowd was way too burned out by this point and people had begin filing out. However, the match itself was stiff and good and on DVD my interpretation of it can change. Live though, it wasn’t all that impressive. At the end, Lacey ran down and slid a chair into the ring which Matthews let loose on with a Double Underhook DDT for the win. Then a four on two brawl broke out which brought out Daizee. When she was about to get assaulted by Necro, Delirious ran out to make the save. He hit Necro with a chair which caused the AotF to bail and brought the show to a close.

As far as I’m concerned, the hot streak is on. This show, once edited for DVD, is going to be great. All the matches were entertaining and the “worst” match was probably the main event, which will probably change once the DVD comes out. And for those keeping track. The show ended at exactly 11:53PM (with no intermission, which admittedly kinda sucked).

Great AWA show tonight - Sommers vs. Michaels was incredibly interesting to see given their later huge tag team feud. I was surprised to see Michaels win this one since it seems like he was fairly new in the AWA at this time.

Holy lord, Vader's got a trucker's hat on, a big, red 'stache, Scott LeDoux is the ref, and Larry Zbysko is offended by something, is complaining, and every single thing they do in this match sounds like a gunshot going off. Glorious. Also, both Hansen and Sammartino's graphics are mis-spelled. That's slightly embarrassing.

Excellent main event between Hansen and Sammartino - I was expecting a fairly short match initially, but I'm glad that took up the whole rest of the show (going from 37 minutes into the show to the end). Good drama, and Greg Gagne impressed me a lot on commentary - putting over the history behind the Sammartino-Hansen feud of the past, building up David's athletic skills, and putting over the title and its many international challenger. Great match, and a damned great promo from Hansen. He can buy shoes for his boy 'n girl 'cuz he won a match!

Quotes -
Nelson - The Central States Wrestling Association Rookie of the Year for 1985 - Shawn Michaels!
Greg Gagne - He’s got some moves that we’ve never seen before in the AWA.
Ken Resnick - Greg, do you feel as bad as I do when he says he’s only 20?
Gagne - Not really. The young ladies were all over him in the casino - I’m gonna follow him wherever he goes.
(on Shawn)Gagne - He could end up being a short-lived sensation here in the AWA!
Nelson - Another sensational victory for Shawn Michaels!
Shawn - In order to be somebody in wrestling - you’ve gotta beat the top talent in the AWA. I’ve got an amateur background, and a professional one with Jose Lothario. I’ve got a lot of people to go through, and the biggest and best are right here, and to be the best, I have to beat everybody else. Stan Hansen is a great man and a great champion!
Greg Gagne - For the last year, the Barbarian has been training in New Mexico with King Kong Brody. He’s got a lot of the mannerisms of Brody.
Gagne - The AWA - the major leagues of professional wrestling, brings you the best matches. We’ve got a lot of celebrities here tonight as well. We’ve got a big main event here tonight - David Sammartino versus Stan Hansen, and a lot of people think that Sammartino’s gonna take the belt from Hansen!
Gagne - You can see a lot of Brody in this man, the Barbarian.
Gagne - Curt’s fighting back on the Bavarian…Barbarian!
Zbysko - KNOCK OFF THE SMALL TALK AND GET SCOTT LEDOUX OUTTA HERE!
Nelson - FROM PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, LARRY ZBYSKO!
Zbysko - LARRY, TELL THESE PEOPLE TO SHUT UP! SHUT UP!
Gagne - Leon White played for the Rams in ‘77 and ‘78. If Hansen gets by Sammartino, he’ll have to face White. BIG HEADLOCK BY LEON WHITE!
Gagne - We all know what happened to David’s father, Bruno, at the hands of Hansen, and tonight, David’s looking for revenge.
Zbysko - I love all you, too.
Nelson - How can you call Scott LeDoux biased after that call?
Zbysko- You have to be stupid to not think that LeDoux is one of Bockwinkel’s thugs. The man’s biased. His boxing career’s down the tubes… WHY DON’T YOU ALL SHUT UP!? I’ve had 12 glorious… KNOCK IT OFF… 12 GLORIOUS YEARS! Of dedication! I have a brain, people, unlike you!
Nelson - Well, it doesn’t look like he’s changed his attitude…
Zbysko - I’m victorious, I’M THE WINNER! There’s nothing to change, brother!
(Hansen chops Sammartino)Gagne - WOOH!
Resnick - OWWW!
Gagne - Sammartino was a weight lifting champion in high school at 17, and also won a title in amateur wrestling. We could have a new champion on our hands.
Hennig - I came out here to do a little homework, a little study, on a possible match with Stan Hansen. OH GEEEZZZ! I’m out here to watch this man because he does a lot of uncalled things… OH GEEZ!
Resnick - A hard shot to the head.
Gagne - It’s hard, as a wrestler, to watch this, and I know that Hennig’s fire is burning after what Hansen did to him.
Hennig - I know he’s going to have to face me at some point, and I’ve gotta do some homework. He’s a wild man in every aspect of wrestling, and as I watch him, look at how dirty he’s being.
Gagne - This sport is about bone on bone, muscle on muscle, sinew on sinew - there’s no shoulder pads, knee pads…well, there are knee pads, but Hansen pulled the pad down and hit him with the bone. Listen to those chops of Hansen! There’s a lot of great contenders here - there’s former champ, Rick Martel, former champion Nick Bockwinkel, Sgt. Slaughter, Curt Hennig, Big Scott Hall, and of course, Greg Gagne - we all want him. Of course, David Sammartino could win the title. You’ve still got the great Tenryu, Jumbo Tsruta, the Giant Baba as contenders for Hansen.
Hennig - Hansen is human, he has faults, and he can be beat!
Gagne - Hansen’s gotta head scissors on - he can wrestle, and he can wrestle rough when he wants to. He played football at West Texas State, played professional football, he’s got strong legs.
Hennig - It’s professional wrestling at its best here, I guarantee it. Hansen’s a tough champion, OH GEEZ, HE’S OUT HERE!
Gagne - Big Mr. Nasty they called him in college football - and he earned it. I think he’s blown up - that’s what it’s called in pro sports when you run out of gas, I think that’s why he threw Sammartino out to the floor.
Resnick - Hansen’s wrestling longer now than I’ve seen since he won the title.
Gegne - Well Ken, Sammartino’s been taking it to him!
(during a half-nelson)Hansen - COME ON BOY, WHERE’S YOUR MAMA NOW, BOY!? ASK HIM!
(Hansen misses a corner splash, leading to a schoolboy)Hennig - I LEARNED SOMETHING FROM THAT MOVE!
Gagne - This week, Sammartino dead lifted 515 pounds!
Resnick - A FLYING DROPKICK, I’VE NEVER SEEN IT FROM HANSEN!
Gagne - HE’S SIGNALLING FOR THE LARIAT, THAT’S THE MOVE HE BROKE BRUNO’S NECK WITH!
Hennig - Sammartino showed me something tonight - I learned that if you stay with Hansen and wear him down, you can beat him.
Hansen - I NEVER HAD NOTHIN’ BUT TOUGH MATCHES! DAVID, YOUR DADDY WOULD BE PROUD OF YA, BUT THAT’S WHAT I THINK OF YA DAMN DADDY! I’M STAN HANSEN - HERE I STAND! YA KNOW SOMETHING, I’M GONNA CELEBRATE JUST A LITTLE BIT! TO MY BOY ‘N GIRL, I CAN FINALLY BUY YA SOME NEW SHOES ‘CUZ I JUST WON A MATCH! HENNIG WAS ACTIN’ SMART A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND I DAMN NEAR PUT HIM OUT OF ACTION!? ARE HALL AND HENNIG TAG CHAMPS?
Nelson - Yes, they are.
Hansen - THEN WHY THE HELL ARE THEY IN DAMN TAG MATCHES AND WHY ARE THEY COMING AFTER ME!? PUT YOUR NAME IN THE DAMN HAT! EVERYBODY AROUND THE WORLD KNOWS I’M CONTROVERSIAL AND DAMNED MEAN! HOOOOOO!

Goddammit, they fucked my name up...

I need to remember to set the tivo for AWA. I keep forgetting its on and going to bed. I hope ratings are good for this stuff and ESPN Classic keeps on with it. I mean as long it aired on ESPN its fair game right? That includes Global and World Class/USWA.
Is it me or has Brak not posted in a while?
Wrestling has bored me to tears lately. :'[

The WWE has officially killed the Cruiserweight Title. It's been moved to the "retired titles" section of the WWE webpage.

Thank you Hornswaggle. They might as well retire all the Cruiserweights as well. Where is the ball that they can be given to run with now?

That's understandable. If it wasn't for Flair's match and UT most likely winning the belt, I would have no interest in WM. If they job out UT to Edge I might just be done w/WWE altogether. I quit Raw in October and Smackdown is just getting by right now. There was actually a really good match a couple of weeks ago between Noble and Palumbo. Noble is rock solid, IMO. Finlay spends more time on Raw than SD so that's another mark against SD. I'm still hanging on to TNA, though some weeks I'm not sure why. It's as if they have alternating teams doing the writing/booking each week. I like RoH but it's hard to follow them when they don't run any live shows anywhere near my area.

It was renamed the ECW title.

The Jeff Hardy Saga Continues...

The fall out of the 60 day suspension of Jeff Hardy for a second violation of the WWE Wellness Policy is still making news. Sadly, Friday night, Jeff’s home in North Carolina burned to the ground and he lost essentially every thing he had and most sadly his dog. Losing an animal one is close to is just like losing a family member to many people and we just experienced that with the death of our 18 year old cat Molly who had to be put down after suffering a serious of strokes.

Apparently Matt Hardy saw smoke coming from Jeff’s home on Friday night, discovered that no one was home, but arrived at the house too late to do any thing but watch it burn to the ground.

These are challenging times for Jeff to say the least. Not only has he incurred his second strike with only one remaining before he would be terminated from the WWE, his situation has been underscored by the fact that his suspension went public per the WWE policy, which went into effect on November 1 and with which I wholeheartedly agree. Now Jeff’s home has been destroyed with the heart breaking reality that his beloved dog died in the fire as well.

Jeff’s career can be rebuilt if he so chooses to committing to do such. This commitment cannot be a short term commitment, but a life time commitment that must see him take it one day at a time and have the expressed goal of being successful in 24 hours intervals. I am one that truly believes that Jeff can make this happen, especially if those close to him offer Jeff the kind of support that he needs and that he seeks the wisdom and advise of a counselor who can help Jeff understand why these life and career threatening mistakes are being made.

Jeff’s home can be rebuilt materially, as well, but his many personal affects now nothing more than a memory. I hope this tragedy doesn’t push Jeff to the edge of the proverbial cliff to where his wrestling career becomes nothing more than a memory as well.

I grieve for the loss of the animal. I can only imagine what Jeff Hardy must be going through at this time. without question Jeff is being sternly tested. I hope he passes this test and the one’s to come admirably.

Jeff hardy will be 31 years old on August 31, 2008 and without question his wrestling career can be re-ignited if Jeff can prove to those that make the all important decisions that Jeff can be trusted and has become a responsible professional who understands how important it is to do the right things.

The trust factor is one that cannot be underscored enough. Over my 30+ years in the wrestling business I often wondered why so many of the men in charge were also their territories top stars. Owners/Promoters/Bookers like Eddie Graham, Verne Gagne, Fritz Von Erich, Bob Geigel, Bill Watts, Jerry Jarret and Jerry Lawler, The Funks, and so many more were their area’s top stars more often than not and did so because they knew they could trust and depend on their top stars, them. Being responsible and trust worthy are great traits to have in any field of endeavor, but it seems to be especially viable in the wrestling business based on my personal experiences.

Jeff Hardy can rebuild his home, hopefully he can somehow replace his beloved dog, I know that won’t be easy, but can he rebuild the trust with the WWE that allows Jeff to be provided with more opportunities to be the star that we all know that he can be? No one has this answer today. Only time will tell but I will say that my opinion is that it can be done but it certainly won’t be easy.

J.R.

What a shame.

Seems like, within the year, Jeff's either going to get his life back together or completely self-destruct.

Jeff Hardy REALLY needs to picture himself as Jake Roberts, at Jake's current age, and ask himself if that is where he wants to end up.

So tonight I sit here before you even more exhausted than yesterday. Once again, you’ll have to excuse me for any typos I may make because I feel like falling asleep at the keyboard.

The crowd tonight was far less lively than yesterday and it became quite clear that the majority of people here tonight were there for “The Wrestler” and not Ring of Honor. I know people might have been confused with Nigel/Shiozaki vs. Dragon/Aries with the match being said to main event and the FIP 4-way going on last. This was because right after the Dragon match, it was announced that the filmed had commenced and people BAILED. At least forty people got up and walked out in front of us. On the whole, the wrestling was a whole lot better than Night 1 but both shows are going to be worth own. As I’ve said, the hot streak is on.

In additional exclusive news, I’d like to add that I asked the ticket table if they were ever going to run Dover again and one of the gentleman quickly spit out “Never!”, which was followed by a quick shake of the head and a half-smile by another. Guess we’ll never see The Epic Ramp ever again. Too bad.

The show started off with Claudio/Davey which I thought was a really good opener. The match didn’t elicit the kind of sheer awe that Roderick/Pelle had so I had to say that for playing the role of an opener, Roderick/Pelle was a more enjoyable match. Davey looked for a long time that he might just have had Claudio’s number, dodging the “Hey” elbow, blocking the giant swing, and reversing the Ricola bomb. However he finally caught Davey with the giant swing and hit Davey with a running uppercut into the corner for the win. Overall, I’d say the match was good fun and set a good tone for the night.

Next up was The Vulture Squad/The Hangman Three (Jigsaw and Ruckus vs. Adam Pearce and Shane Hagadorn) in a good match. Pearce got massive amounts of heat and Shane, although there, didn’t stink the match up. This felt like a good old fashioned tag match with ended with a great ending spot with the awesome Jig N’ Tonic Double Stomp. Jigsaw then got on the mic and called out Eddie Kingston. Before he could finish speaking, Ruckus covered the mic with his hand and gently moved it away from Jigsaw’s mouth. They then talked about it all the way to the back.

Then came The Briscoes/BJ Whitmer and Brent Albright match. There were more “John Belushi” and “Toga” chants and man, at the very least, those two chants have gotten Brent Albright over. It’s fun to tease him, not annoying to other fans, and Albright goes right along with it in his own heelish manner. Congrats to the fans in New York City who came up with it. The match itself lost all heat as it went, mainly because the Briscoes, as stiff as they tried to be, seemed to be unable to draw interest. It’s hard to explain but at this point, the only thing that seems to be able to keep The Briscoes interesting is their theme song. However Mark has gone full blown Karate Kid in his character and it helped the match a bit.

TeamWork/Nigel and Go was the match of the night. Easily. It was also the best tag team match I’ve seen all year round thus far from any promotion. The match got even the most disinterested, wannabe in a movie and “It’s the only reason I’m here”, people into the show. Fantastically paced and leading to a great finish, this felt like something out of the old New Yorker hotel. Just excellent. Nigel cut a promo similar to one the yesterday about being the best wrestler in the world and copied Dragon’s “I’ve got till 5!” chant. The chops exchanged between Aries and Go were downright brutal and they redid the suplex spot from 6th Anniversary Show. The end came when Dragon locked Nigel in the Cattle Mutilation and Aries got Go in the Horns of Aries and Go tapped.

The Steen/Matthews match was much, much better than their worthless meeting in NYC. Matthews attacked Steen as he came through the curtain and looked great throughout the match. He worked a Ring of Honor type match this time around and genuinely looked good other there tonight. However, Steen didn’t pull nearly as much bull**** this time around and so his character wasn’t nearly as interesting tonight. Oh well. Can’t do it every night. Nevertheless the match was fun to watch and a good effort overall. After the match, Black attacked Steen with the Small Package Driver and cut a promo saying that he would be the next World Champion, even if it meant taking Kevin Steen out. Erick Stevens then made his way out. On a side note, perhaps there was a botch and Matthews was really hurt because Sinclair came out to check up on Matthews after the package piledriver. However, I saw Matthews moving his fingers so I think it may have been a work.

Black/Stevens was the worst match of the night in the sense that it got no heat at all. The two guys worked their asses off and to all the Stevens naysayers, Erick Stevens was more aggressive, more meaner, and more about being the bigger guy than he been in months and it helped him a ton. It made him look he should have looked like months ago and I can’t wait to see more of him with this demeanor. The match came to an end when Tyler botched a move that I can’t remember, but I believe it was going to be some kind of roll-up. However, he quickly recovered and followed up another roll-up for the win. I’d like to say the match was good, but it felt very, very meh live. You can decide whichever is more appropriate for you.

Finally was the awesome main event with Roderick Strong/The Necro Butcher/Delirious/Eddie Edwards. I personally thought the match was great. To let me get this out of the way, I want to say that Eddie Edwards simply belonged. He cut his hair, got new blue tights with Japanese on them and again, looked like he simply belonged. This was my favorite match of the night. Overall all I can say was this was A LOT of fun and the heat for this was as loud as anything with a full crowd. After some all around craziness, which I personally refuse to spoil, Necro Butcher finally got the win when Lacey interfered, Daizee came out to stop her, and he caught Delirious with a Tiger Bomb for the win.

The bottom line is that the first night had the better crowd with a simpler show and the second night had a worse crowd with better wrestling. Overall though, I’d say both Dover shows are definitely worth owning and are much better shows than they had any right to be. Ring of Honor delivered when they came to Dover. I think a lot of people were bussed in and a lot of kids were let in for free. To the people who stayed for entire show, I think they got more than they were expected especially with a PPV tomorrow, which I believe might just be breathtaking.

New Wrestlemania news.

The Citrus Bowl has seen the Rolling Stones rock on its field, the University of Central Florida win big games and Olympic soccer bring chats of Ole!

But nothing has quite prepared the graying old stadium for one of the biggest spectacles to be featured inside her concrete walls: WrestleMania 24. Production already has started to transform the rundown 70,000-seat venue from drab to glam come March 30 -- even if it is for just one evening.

So how exactly does one mask the various problems the Citrus Bowl presents to WWE when it comes to putting on its biggest show of the year? Lots of steel beams, lights, video boards and -- what else -- pyro.

"It's going to be a big, great show with stuff people have never seen before," said Brian Petree, WWE production manager.

Right after WrestleMania 23 ended in Detroit last year, the WWE started planning for Orlando. That meant figuring out how to handle an outdoor venue -- considering this is the second time WrestleMania will be held outside. The first was in Las Vegas in 1993.

Petree did his first walk through of the Citrus Bowl last April. The design team started to figure out how it would plan for weather, including rain and wind, and also how it would design the entire show. In Las Vegas, a tent was set up over the ring to guard against the elements.

But this time, WWE decided to take it another step.

It will build a steel roof to go over the ring, not only to protect the wrestlers should it rain, but also so it can hang lights and a massive video board. Another steel structure will be built on the north end of the stadium, where the performers will make their entrance onto the field.

A large video board will hang from that as well. The steel beams were built in Belgium and are being shipped over. Many of them were custom made. Petree declined to say what it will look like, because WWE guards its design plans so fans can be surprised when they watch the show.

When asked whether the steel-roof structure will obstruct views from the bleachers, Petree said, "Every seat is going to be a good one because of video reinforcement."

The steel structures will begin taking shape Monday, when three to four cranes start hoisting beams into place. But the first pieces started coming together Wednesday, when WWE began the transformation of the bowl.

The first thing that had to be done was putting down heavy-duty plastic flooring over the entire field, not only to protect the grass but to provide seating and a strong enough foundation to start building the steel structures.

After the floor is done, it is scheduled to take about a week to bolt the steel structures into place and build the rest of the infrastructure. Once that is done, the show elements of lighting, video boards, sound and the ring will go into place.

The lighting is a huge deal because the show is outside. Petree said they are going to use as many video boards as they can because it serves as one of the main sources of lighting. There also will be lights over the ring, main entrance way and on platforms around the Citrus Bowl.

To make sure there is enough power for the lights and sound, WWE will use up to seven generators. It also has worked closely with the city to make sure everything it plans to do with the stadium is safe.

The plan is to have everything done by March 29, so there can be rehearsals to test all the technical parts of the show. The production schedule also has built in days for weather delays, and is longer than last year because there are so many more pieces to build.

That also includes an entire tent city outside the north end of the stadium to serve as a backstage area. Because WWE chose to use that side for its big entrances, it had to build something because the locker rooms are on the south.

The mini-city is about 40,000 square feet. WWE worked with a local company to bring in tents with air conditioning and floors, trailers, VIP areas, showers and restrooms. WWE also will do some events at Tinker Field before WrestleMania, so it needed a large enough space to accommodate many people.

To make all of this happen, there are about 100 people working 16 hours a day from now on to make sure everything is done on time.
Perhaps most impressive, the WWE team had to come up with plans while also working three shows a week and setting up pay-per-view events.

"It's a lot of fun, though," Petree said. "We get excited when the show starts and everything works as it's supposed to. We still get goose bumps despite the fact that we've been working week after week."

For all of the challenges the Citrus Bowl presents, it does have one advantage over bigger, nicer domed stadiums.

"The pyro and the fireworks are going to be amazing," Petree said. "Having a big bowl that's outdoors -- you can imagine. I shouldn't say any more than that."

Once the show ends, it will take three to four days to break down the elaborate set, and the Citrus Bowl will go back to hosting supercross events and football games. Then WWE will start thinking about WrestleMania 25.

But Orlando won't forget WrestleMania.

"We are starting to talk with WWE about bringing WrestleMania back, hopefully in 2012 and beyond, with renovations to the Citrus Bowl being very appealing for the future," said John Saboor, president of the Central Florida Sports Commission.

That might all depend on how everything goes March 30.

Oh god we are fucked.

BTW Jeff Hardy didn't even have insurance on his house, kind of sad isn't it? I am considering just getting insurance my apartment items, yet a wrestler with a lot of money doesn't even place insurance?

Off topic: Did anyone pick up/see Rey Mysterios "Movie"? I thought it was called Wrestlemania or something along those lines, but I can't find the info on it anywhere ! Not even on IMDB! The description sounded like a cheesy horror movie, for those interested Rey is a heel who tears off the face of his opponents in the ring. I saw it at Wal-Mart from last week, looks like I'm going to have to grab it for $10.

Edit: Or maybe I won't. Looks like It's SR and the review's have been "meh" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0497477/

Jeff Hardy's house burning down? Sad. Jeff Hardy not having insurance? Stupid.
It seems like Jeff's life has taken a tragic twist of fate.
Ouch. I think I have internal bleeding from that one.

Much more unwise than sad.

I can't agree more. I feel horrible whenever anyone loses anything. Losing all of those things you can't replace with money is just horrible, especially if the fire was one of those freak things that were likely not preventable (or at least reasonably preventable). Losing a pet also sucks.

But, I don't have sympathy for the financial portions of this. I'd have a hard time believing that you can buy a house and never hear of homeowners insurance, which means that he chose not to have it. He wanted to gamble and got burned. I can see not buying condo insurance and gambling there if you want (since, if you have an apartment, you can likely easily afford to replace everything if you are Jeff Hardy), but this is just a horrible lapse of judgement, especiallly from someone that can afford the insurance.

Though, between this and the 2nd wellness violation right around a time he was going to get a title run, you really have to wonder, where is Jeff's head at? He worked his whole life to get to this point, dreamt of it, and then he pissed it all away? Why? For what?

You really have to wonder, does Jeff have no good close friends? Where the hell is his family? There are times you need to sit someone down and slap them accross the head to get their life on straight? Was this done and he blew them off?
I've still been following TNA, too. The wrestling is always great, but the booking, for the most part, makes me roll my eyes. (Ready for Johnny Fairplay? )

I'd love to follow ROH, but I have no real way of doing it.

The one thing I don't understand about the article Sporadic posted is the outside arena part. I know WM 9 was outside, but wasn't WM 19 in a outside arena too?

It was at Safeco Field in Seatlle which has a retractable roof. It could have been left open but would you really want to do that in Seattle in late March/early April?:)

I might actualy be able to attend that show since it's not too far from my mom's house and I'll be traveling home for a few weeks during the summer.

While you're there, you might as well come up for the Hammerstein show. Some reports are saying RVD might show up.

...and his last weekend on the road - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=22367

I loved his work as Muta's manager in '89 when I first became a fan in '93, and since then, I've enjoyed hearing him talk about the good times, the bad times, and the strong bonds he formed with folks on the WCCW documentaries. I also got a kick out of something I read today - he lost a stip match where he had to agree to be bald for life and was so dedicated to the business that he lived up tot he stip and made sure his hair never great back.

ROH coming so close to me is very, VERY tempting. I'm interested in seeing what the card looks like though before I spend money on tickets.

Jeff Hardy not having insurance speaks of his mindset IMO. He is about living in the moment, not planning for the future, as his Wellness habits seem to prove.
Fixed for Wrestlemania

God I hope this RAW starts getting better. The last half hour has been pretty dreadful. The Jericho/Big Show segment and Punk vs Carlito match were good tho.
