Street Fighter III: Third Strike
Street Fighter Alpha
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3

I'm sure I'm leaving a ton out but this is off the top of my head...
That's funny, I thought one Wolverine was like a faster version
I think you're right... I think the bone claws is faster, but not as strong, and vice versa for the adamantium version.

Hmmm...

1- Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate/Trilogy
2- Street Fighter Alpha 3
3- Hyper Street Fighter (the one in Anniversary Collection)
4- Darkstalkers 3 (PS1)
5- Marvel vs. Capcom 2

I wish they would do something similar to Darkstalkers 3 on the current consoles... the upcoming collection allows you to play the arcade games separately, as I understand it. Darkstalkers 3 for PS1 was different, because it actually combined all the arcade games into one. All characters were available to choose, you could select which soundtrack and background style you wanted, and you got one of those great option menus that let you change the game properties (like super cancelling and air-blocking and stuff). If I want the arcade games I'd just play MAME... I wish they'd just re-make Darkstalkers 3, clean it up a bit (PS1 version had missing frames and worse animation), and add online play.

The Dreamcast and PSP versions are similar to the Playstation one in this regard, as well, but they have the proper frames and animation.
Very interesting avatar you have there megashock5! I like it.
And just as I was changing it! Oh well, this is really just an update of the one I had been using.

The old one -->

Someone has a cool avatar on another site I post on: http://assemblergames.com/forums/image.php?u=58&dateline=2005

Top 5, that's hard. Hmmmm

1. Marvel vs Capcom 2
2. Guilty Gear X
3/4. Street Fighter Alpha 3/Street Fighter III (It's a tie)
5. X-Men vs Street Fighter

By Street Fighter III I don't mean 3rd Strike, I mean the first SF3. I don't remember it's full name.

Edit: So the DS Collection IS comming here? Good shit. and BustaUppa the same can be said to you about Darkstalkers 3. Yes people could play the arcade games on mame, but you could also just play Darkstalkers 3 on PS1 ;)

Nice list. I don't know is Last Blade 2 is top 5 worthy though. You got any screenshots of SS4? From what I've seen it's the same as 1/2, both of which played too slow.

Can't say I agree with those. Maybe no one has played Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves. I haven't.
Street Fighter III: New Generation
Thank you sir. Know what the 2nd one is called?
Street Fighter III: Second Impact
I knew that part, I thought it had more to it.

EDIT Nevermind.

idk what this thread is about really...

...but I just played pocket fighter on psone. I had to go to the bathroom and my psone with LCD was with me so I brought it in... sat down... did my business while hoping to enjoy a nice fighter.

the fighter was not nice. 3 buttons are not enough... and it did not do capcom fighters justice

very disappointed

I'll have to find some screenshots when I get off work. I have to help my sister move into her apartment though so I don't know if I'll have much time tonight. SSIV is MUCH faster than 1 or 2. I love the slash and bust modes too. It's like doubling the roster. I played A LOT of Samurai Shodown IV in college because the only machines they had were P.O.W and a Neo machine. The Neo machine had Bust-A-Move, KOF 94 and Samurai Shodown IV. Man I had some good times then.

I'm curious to hear everyone's top 5 favorite 2D fighters... add more if you think of them

Currently...

1. Guilty Gear X2#Reload
2. Melty Blood ReAct
3. Street Fighter Anniversery
4. Samurai Shodown 3
5. Last Blade 2

It's about anything fighting game related. Pocket Fighters is a gimmick fighting game. I liked it.

Edit: That sounds like a good machine Guile. You must've had fun.
Can't say I agree with those. Maybe no one has played Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves. I haven't.
Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves (or Garou: Mark of the Wolves, as its called in Japan) is SNK's answer to Capcom's Street Fighter Alpha 3. Although the roster isn't as huge as SFA3's, the game is fun to play. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it more than Alpha 3. Anyway, here are my top 5 2D fighters:

1. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
2. Capcom vs SNK 2
3. Guilty Gear XX#Reload
4. Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves
5. Street Fighter Alpha 3

As for Pocket Fighter, that game is super simple. It's good, mindless fun. When I first played the game, I was mostly excited due to the cutesy characters. After that wore off, the game wasn't as fun as I thought it would be.

Fixed ;) . Look at the animation style and Just Defends for proof.

top five...? hmm...

#1. Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PS1, but hopefully soon to be PSP)
#2. Marvel Vs. Capcom (original one... not the insane conjunction of just too much stuff... oh, PS1/ARC)
#3. Darkstalkers 3 (PS1)
#4. King of Fighters 98 (NeoGeo)
#5. Guilty Gear X2 (PS2)

1. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
2. Capcom vs SNK 2
3. Street Fighter 2 Turbo
4. Marvel vs Capcom 2
5. Street Fighter Alpha 3

#1. Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PS1, but hopefully soon to be PSP)

Is it coming out for PSP? That would be sweet. I hope Capcom actually takes some time to do the port right and not just stretch everything to 16x9. All they have to do is redo the backgrounds and I woulf be psyched...

Yea, it definately is.

No details on it though, but the rumor is that it will include the three new characters that SFA 3 for GBA had. These being Eagle, Maki, and Yun.

Like I said earlier, Darkstalkers was an excellent port, so I expect good things to come out of this one. I had also heard it's going to have wifi internet play, but that's just a rumor right now.

Probably one of my most anticipated PSP games.

haha it's funny to see some people just pop in to post their top 5 and leave. Not a bad way to bump your post count.

I never did a top 5... this is just off the top of my head real fast.

1. Street Fighter Alpha 3
2. Darkstalkers Series
3. Project Justice
4. Soul Calibur series
5. King of Fighters 2002

SS4 kicks ass. I laughed when I cut this umbrella girl in half. No blood shot out though.... I heard the game got censored or something, and the uncensored version is rare (I'm talking about for the AES). Is that true?

I wish they were releasing 4 and 5 on xbox. It would be cool if they did the whole collection. I've also seen a 3D SS game. Was that arcade only?

5 is coming out to Xbox I think... and Saturn got decent ports of 3 and 4, and they are relatively cheap to come by.

Damn it Capcom, I want a new Vs. fighter that uses the MvC2 engine, and it wouldn't even be that much work.

Let's look at MvC2's roster. Entries in yellow are new characters (thus requiring them to be animated). The rest are recycles.

Akuma
Cammy
Charlie
Chun-Li
Dan
Dhalsim
Guile
Ken
M. Bison

Ryu
Sakura
Zangief
Anakaris
B.B Hood

Felicia
Morrigan
Mega Man
Roll
Servbot

Tron Bonne
Amingo
Hayato
Jin Saotome
Jill
Ruby Heart
Captain Commando
Son Son
Strider
Cable
Colossus
Cyclops
Gambit
Iceman
Juggernaut
Magneto
Marrow
Omega Red
Psylocke
Rogue
Sabretooth
Silver Samurai
Sentinel
Spiral
Storm
Wolverine 1

Wolverine 2
Blackheart
Captain America
Dr. Doom
Hulk
Iron Man
Shuma-Gorath

Spider-Man
Venom
War Machine
Thanos

That's only 10 new characters out of a roster of 56 people!

Capcom lost the Marvel liscence, but they still have more than enough people already outfitted to the MvC2 engine, and plenty of sprites from other series.

Let's remove the Marvel Characters from the list:

Akuma
Cammy
Charlie
Chun-Li
Dan
Dhalsim
Guile
Ken
M. Bison

Ryu
Sakura
Zangief
Anakaris
B.B Hood

Felicia
Morrigan
Mega Man
Roll
Servbot

Tron Bonne
Amingo

Hayato
Jin Saotome
Jill
Ruby Heart
Captain Commando
Son Son
Strider

That's 28 people.

Pull from CvS2
Kyosuke
Eagle
Maki

Pull from SFA3
Blanka
Guy
Rolento

Pull from one of the Darkstalkers games
Talbain
Raptor
Rikuo
Jedah

Pull from Capcom Fighting Evolution
Ingrid

Now we're at 39 people that don't need to be drawn. Lets say you can pull 3 people from SF3 and retool their sprites so they look on par with the others ones. 42.

Now, we had 10 completely new people for MvC2, but just to make it easy on Capcom I'll ask for 8 to round out an even 50 playable characters.

New characters
Dante
Viewtiful Joe
Zero (MMX)
Bionic Commando
Either Arthur or Maximo
Mr. Smith (Killer 7)
Ryu (BoF)
Samanosuke (Onimusha)

That brings us to 50, and you only had to draw 8 new ones capcom! You could use the same exact engine and I would be happy! It wouldn't even take you that long, and it wouldn't cost that much money! Argh!

/back to dreaming

I was thinking something similar evilmax. All they have to do is include more Darkstalker characters and do the ENTIRE Project Justice crew in 2D. Call it Capcom Tag Rivals and there you go!

All those characters won't be a damn of difference if the game is anywhere as 'balanced' as MVC2. 50+ characters and only a handful of who can hold thier own against most. Don't get me wrong, MVC2 is a fun game it's just that if you play against a technical button tapper (i.e. All they do is memorise infinite combos or chip away at your health with blocknots), the game gets real stale, real quick. I'll take SF2: Hyper Fighting any day :D

SF2 makes me vomit. MvC2 never gets old. Something like what evilmax mentioned would be cool, but I would replace a bunch of characters you mentioned. I want that Robot Akuma to make another appearance. I think he was in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter.

Does ANYBODY play fighting games over XBL??

It seems like no one but 1-2 people plays game like Capcom vs snk, guilty gearxx..

SF: Anniversary still gets 3-4 people live..

come on people lets play live

The first 2 you mentioned are both laggy, with GGXX being extremely laggy.

I don't play fighters online mainly because of what VGM already stated, the lag. Even in Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, there's a slight delay with everything you do even if the connection seems smooth. For those that play SFIII:3S on Xbox Live, you'll definitely know the slight delay in parrying. It really throws my game off whenever I play SFIII:3S online. The same goes for GGXX#Reload.

GGX2 is like playing in mud...but I play it every once in a while.

SF:A is not so bad, though unless you are playing someone who is awesome, chances are the other guy will pick ryu, ken or akuma and use all the same old strats.

that's why I stick with Dead or Alive-- no lag, tons of people playing and a wide variety of levels of play.

DOA was laggy as hell. The only game that had really good lag tolerance was Halo 2.

I guess some people have had lag problems, but me and most of the folks who play it regularly rarely get any. just gotta play people with the green bars

So I was wondering why games like Samurai Shodown V and KoF 94 Re-bout aren't coming out to the ps2.

So I did some digging, and found the reason why. SNK's games sell on the ps2 like hotcakes, at 55-60 bucks a pop. When SNK wants to port them to the US, SNK Japan feels that they should be sold at $50 dollars a pop because Japan loves them, and he feels they are not worth less than $50.

Now, 2d games are good and all, but $50 dollars for ONE KoF or Metal Slug is very much pushing it, since these are older games for the most part and they don't fly off the shelves like they do in Japan, since 2D is just a niche genre here now. Other companies understand that, and mark their 2d stuff cheaper... Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection is 30, for instance, great price.

Ben Herman, the president of SNK USA, had bundled games before to comply with SCEA's wishes. KoF 00 / 01, 02 / 03, Metal Slug 4 /5. However, with Re-Bout and Samurai Shodown V, there's really nothing to bundle them with this time. Ben Herman WANTED to put them out at budget prices here, 20-30 dollars for the ps2, but SNK Japan sternly said no, they will not do it no matter what.

Ben Herman made a post on the official SNK US message message board (I lost the post) where he said SNK USA has plans to release all these games as budget titles for the PS2 when it's viable... which is 2007.

Microsoft dosen't have these sort of restrictions, and since SNK makes the games Live compatiable they can throw it out there for $50 bucks a game.

Kinda shitty, KoF 94 Re-Bout has gotten denied for US release twice now by SCEA, just because SNK Japan won't sell it here as a budget title. Many people hate on SCEA for this type of stuff, but the game would only sell to the hardcore fans for 40-50, and everyone else would just wait for 20 anyways.
Is KOF 94 even coming here? If not ima import it. Same goes for Darkstalkers Collection.
KoF 94 Re-Bout is Xbox only to the US, and it'll be Live compatiable.

Capcom will probably have good luck bringing Darkstalkers Collection out in the states, because they know they have to price their games lower since they are older, and DC is already a "Collection".

I'm going to bet that Capcom will release Darkstalkers Collection for 29.99 in the US when they officially announce it.

Am I the only one who's getting tired of Capcom's collections. Don't get me wrong they're cool and everything.

I just want to see something new from them. That's why I'm really starting to hate Capcom, even though they made some great fighters in the past, they're turning their backs on fighting fans and taping togther a couple collection and think we'll be happy with that. I already own just about every fighter, so collections are useless to me.
