That's my problem! I missed the videogames on MTV. Now I am just living a life of self loathing and degradation. So I take my frustrations out on the world. In fact, just today I walked into EBGames for no particular reason, went straight past the magazine stand on the counter and proceeded to jump in the air and kick the employee square in the face while screaming, "Tatsu-maki-senpu-kyaku!!!" at the top of my lungs. Before I landed, I gave him an uppercut while yelling, "Sho-ryu-ken!" As he stood up, he had little stars floating above his head. So I thought it an opportune moment to send him hurling through the air via a monkey flip throw. I suddenly heard someone yell, "Perfect!..." I looked around and saw the store manager. He said, "Perfect! I've been wanting to get rid of that guy anyway." So I ripped his head off with the spine still attached.:bomb:

Sorry. Back on topic, to answer Gothic_Walrus:

I would say that SC2 would be great for you to spend time with to get in the groove of 3D fighters. It is relatively easy to figure out with a bit of time. But that is also a downfall. You can easily fall into button mashing while practicing when an opponent gets too hard. And that doesn't improve you. I've never been a fan of Tekken since when the first when very first came out (although I haven't played 5, 2 through 4 have just disappointed me with ever increasing fervor). But if you are really serious about getting down and dirty, I would suggest that you spend some time with VF4 and get the feel for it. Then just dive head first into the training mode and just stick with it. VF4 is easily the toughest, most in depth fighter. But it is also one of the greatest 3D fighters, if you put in the time.

Walrus:

It depends. Playing VF4 might help you in Tekken, but it wouldn't do shit in Street Fighter. Timing or something might help you out, but knowing moves and combos won't. However, say you play SFA3 and learn akuma's moves, that will transfer over to Capcom vs SNK 2. It all depends. Sorry if I confused you at all.

Seems like most 3-d fighters are made up of bits and pieces of Virtua Fighter 4. Go through a couple movelists and you'll be surprized at how much you'll recognize from other fighters.

Well there's only so much you can do. They'll have to use half circle + punch sometime. ;)

I'm not complaining-- it's like other 3-d games have taken a few aspects of VF and built whole engines around them. just a testament to how huge that game is.
It is the originator. VF is far from my favorite series but the impact of the game in the genre can't be overlooked.
It's amazing how much it's still played in Japanese arcades even after a couple years of it's release. Still by far the most popular.

They like it for the same reason I do. It's so technical, yet tons of fun. No matter how long you play it, there is always improvement to be made.

Just wanted to point out to everyone that the Street Fighter action figures from SOTA Toys are pretty amazing stuff... they are covering a ton of characters who have never gotten figs before, and probably never will again.

So far I've got Sagat, M. Bison, Ryu, Ken, and Cammy.... Series 3 is hitting soon, and includes Guile, Balrog, Gen, and some others but the real amazing part is they just announced the lineup for Series 5:

STREET FIGHTER SERIES 5
-Zangief
-Rolento
-Guy
-Dee Jay
-Juni/Juli

Never thought I'd get the chance to own a Guy figure in my lifetime. If anyone wants the complete list of figures made and coming so far, let me know. The M. Bison is an amazing piece of work.

I know Series 4 has Ibuki and Fei Long, can't remember what else, though. A Darkstalkers line is coming very soon, as well.

For all you Morrigan / Lilith fans:

http://www.action-figure.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=15361

These should be in Suncoast / Gamestop any day now... I've got a Cammy from the Chun Li / Cammy set, pretty decent little figures.
IIt's amazing how Live makes you look like a scrub when offline your a f***** beast :p
Fixed it for you.

I don't get how there is no Ken or Akuma action figures in those lists you mentioned Roufuss. That's pretty fucking lame imo considering they are the best characters.

Ken was in Series 2, Akuma is in Series 4... Akuma looks incredibly badass, by the way. I didn't put up a complete list for Series 1 - 2... Series 1 is already out of stores, but you can still find Series 2 at Gamestop. Ken is a pretty badass figure. www.sotatoys.com has a series list up somewhere.

They have to space out the popular characters among the ones people don't know... that's why Akuma is coming out so late into the series lifespan, and Zangief is just now hitting in Series 5.

It works out better this way, so figures like Ibuki and Guy can also be made.

http://www.sotatoys.com/prod_streetfighter.htm

This is all the figures made to date. Everything from Series 3 on up has been voted on by the fans, too.

Me neither ^^^

That Akuma looks badass. Definately the best figure out of all of them. When does he come out? I'll probably pick one up.

The Darkstalkers ones look awesome. I can't wait for Sasquatch and the Werewolf (I don't remember his name, it's been so long). Morrigan has a large rack...

Akuma and the others will probably comes out at the end of the year, in Winter 2005.

I think Darkstalkers comes out soon too... if it's anything like the Street Fighter line, sales will determine if SOTA makes anymore series of it, so I'll definately pick up a few (not to mention they are awesome to begin with) just to support the product.

I've been playing through VF4: Evo the last couple days. I've got an 88-0 record (I'm playing on beginner, though, I'll up it when I really get into things) with Lei (the monk). I love that guy. He can hit with a really quick combo at almost anytime. What I really like about VF4 is that you don't have to learn an 9 button sequence in order to land awesome combo-type moves. You can almost just make your own!

I've also been playing SC1 on the DC. Man that game is so awesome. I'd say my favorite characters are Mitsurugi, Voldo, and Hwang. I just wish the single-player was as deep as VF4:Evo's. Here's hoping for SC3!

And on a side note, I personally think DOA is incredibly lame. Sure, it looks amazing, but there's barely any depth or technique to the fighting.

EDIT: Also, what's the best arcade-styple stick for the Xbox/PS2??

I've enjoyed my time with the Street Fighter Anniversary Stick.

The Capcom SF Anniversary stick is very nice - it has gorgous artwork on it and the controlls feel very sturdy. It is a little big tho. Personally, I prefer the stick that came w/ the Tekken 5 collector's bundle. Controlls feel great, and it's not nearly as bulky. I'm hoping they do a similar package w/ Soul Calibur 3, so I can have a set of matching sticks. :)
It's funny cause them nerdy dudes say the buttons and materials aren't high quality, so it sucks.
the anniversary stick is fine, the nerdy dudes are anal about everything ;-) Just put something heavy in the base or else it'll fly every where.

I have an xbox stick that isn't very good IMO, and them nerdy dudes would probably tear it to shreads with insults. It pretty cool though, you can switch out the joystick. There is that ball one (Japanese style?) and the western one. I also like it cause it had programable buttons. Programable buttons + Shin Akuma = Unlocking of secrect characters in SVC Chaos.

This is it right here:

The only other one I got is a Blaze 2 player stick for Playstation. I got it at gamestop a long time ago cause it was only $30-40. I couldn't find any pictures of it so I'll have to use my own.

I was playing KOF 2K2 last night at the local arcade and I must say I did good. I'm still not 100% with an arcade stick again, but my highest streak was 6 wins. I know it's not alot but the competition was very good. I mainly used my Billy Kane "Poke" technique. Also my Clark and Takuma did good.

I got curious so I played a round in Capcom Fighting Jam (Evolution or whatever) won 2 matches then walked away cause I got bored. Just no fun for me.

just got a dreamcast (possbly one of the few systems that I think is/will be timeless)... was wodnering if anyone can tell me what games they think are good for the system...

so far I have a complete Seaman and complete Shenmue...

the three games I am looking for badly are Cannon Spike, Project Justice, and Power Stone (1 or 2... dosn't matter)... any reccomendations or opinions on some of the games for the DC?

Um, fighters? Dont buy jack shit til you get Street Fighter III Double Impact and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Thats an order!

Double Impact? Why not just go a step higher and get 3rd Strike?
Double Impact? Why not just go a step higher and get 3rd Strike?
Because New Generation>Giant Attack>3rd Strike
IMO they look, play and feel better. I also find them to be more fun.
Well they look about the same to me. It's not like Capcom to downgrade on graphics in a series. As far as I know they didn't drop any animations, but I could be wrong. I'm not trying to be rude but I'd like for you to explain more on how exactly it looks better. As for everything else that's pretty much just a manner of preferenance.

3rd Strike has several more characters, but besides background stages, BGM, and a couple moves being changed, I really don't see much of a differance. Why not go with the one supporting a larger roster?

Ball-top joystick = Japanese
Bat-top joystick = US

The reason why the "nerdy dudes" would bash your Xbox stick is because there are better sticks out there with higher quality parts. For example, you own a MadCatz Xbox controller and you're happy with it. However, there's the official Xbox S controller which feels (and is) more high quality than your MadCatz. But if you're content with your MadCatz, then more power to you.

Someone asked earlier what is the best arcade-style stick for Xbox/PS2, that really depends on the size of your wallet. ;) You can get custom-made sticks anywhere from $100-$300. You also have the option of having a bat-top or ball-top stick, US or Japanese-style button layout, custom artwork, etc. depending on who your maker is. But, if you're just in the market for a mass-produced stick, you can't go wrong with the Namco Arcade Stick (hard to come by, $40-$60), Nuby Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Arcade Stick ($60) or Hori Real Arcade Pro Stick ($80).
Hori Real Arcade Pro Stick ($80).
I've never seen this for this price, either in the wild or online.

Actually, I've never seen it in the wild, period.

I'd love to get one though.

This is the best Ken figure. I have one but mine has marks on it.

Nice, I have that very figure... heh, my friends in college always thought that Ken was giving the finger, until they took a closer look. At this moment it is standing right by my XBOX (in front of Edward Scissorhands and Morpheus).

BTW I just got SvC Chaos (Circuit City clearance) and played with my brother and sister last night. I think it's pretty cool. I thought the animation was really nice (heh, it's funny to see how much work they put into Demitri's cape). Chracter lineup is pretty cool, despite some noticeable abscences... *sigh* a new, bouncy Morrigan sprite would have been heaven. I tried the SNK button layout on my X-Arcade but I found it too confusing. I switched it to Street-Fighter style (punches on top, kicks on bottom, strength increases from left to right) and did much better. I squeezed in a couple of LIVE fights just for fun (I'm nowhere near good enough to consider playing competitively yet). I got surprising lag the second game, but the first was silky smooth - I guess it just depends heavily on your opponent's connection speed.

IMO the best goto
Battle Screen : Giant Attack
VS Screen: New Generation
Character Select Screen: New Generation

So basically you like the PRESENTATION of Second Impact the best? I'm just wondering, because it seems odd to recommend an older version of SF III instead of Third Strike. Gameplay-wise I think Third Strike is superior. You even get the option to change certain basic moves to match how they were in the earlier SFIII titles, if you preferred them the old way. Plus you get some pretty crucial extra characters.

off topic: wtf is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: 2nd Mix?

i saw this and was just wondering what the hell it is...

and what's the difference between these two:

Last Blade 2: Final Edition
Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai

Marvel vs Capcom 2: 2nd Mix is a hacked version of the game were people went in and changed the BGM to rap, hip hop and alittle rock. Unless you like that don't bother with it. I guess people hated the BGM so much they decided to change it. But who could blame them, "Gonna take ya for a ride." I think it had the worst soundtrack ever.

As for Last Blade 2: Heart of Samurai, I think it might be the title of a pal release of Last Blade 2: Final Edition. If your not sure go with Last Blade 2: Final Edition.
