reality is not the important bit, consistency is. He's unable to lift some rubble 45 seconds before he's bringing an aircraft carrier sized object to a sudden stop.

I still agree and disagree. Factor in someone's will to fulfill something and it's a different story.

Tis crap!
also,
Raiden holding back an aircraft carrier by himself was stupid. No questions about it. Stupid.

It was an homage to Grey Fox's similar situation against Metal Gear Rex in MGS1. Like most of Act 4, they're channeling MGS1. If you take it out of context then yes, it could be a little silly.

Left 4 Dead looks fuckING amazing. A whole bunch of HD gameplay videos are up on gametrailers.com

Confirmed for November 4th too.

4 player co-op over Live is going to be sick.

I feel like this year is going to be a lot more satisfying in terms of quality titles in Q3-Q4.

Maybe its because I'm actually going to be able to afford them before they are in the bargain bin? ;)

Seriously though. Assassins Creed I had amazing expectations for when I saw that first trailer of it at Sony's E3. Combined with no money, the reviews saying it was repetitive and short kept me from buying it to this day (I plan on picking it up soon). Mass Effect, ever since I saw that first trailer on the Marketplace where the main character is talking to an alien in a bar and I saw the character models. Then came the reviews saying framerate problems and other annoyances. It just didn't seem like a must have. Halo 3 was fun but the multiplayer just didn't shine like it did during Halo 2.

Bioshock and Halo 3 were my only 1st day non-sport purchases of 2007.

In terms of non sports... Brother in Arms Hells Highway has tons of development time: the gameplay looks rock solid and the graphics look stunning, Legendary looks like something fresh with its pandora's box premise and its solid gameplay, Far Cry 2 looks polished too and the series has always had fun gameplay, Velvet Assassin also looks fresh and everything about it looks interesting, for me Banjo Kazooie looks great, Gears 2 no comment it will be amazing, Left 4 Dead looks sick and I love how co-op is so important, Mirror's Edge looks fresh too, and Dead Space looks new and interesting.

I think 2008 will bring a lot of quality titles to the Xbox 360.

I have a hard time seeing 2008 surpassing 2007 for me personally.

Last year I loved: Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Orange Box, Mario Galaxy, and Mass Effect.

Gears 2 is really the only game I can think of that I'm as excited for as I was for those games from last year. But maybe some more stuff I'm not super exited about right now will get rave reviews and I'll end up feeling differently when all is said and done.

I don't think there's a single game announced for this year that I have any interest in right now...

Any ideas on how to get my hands on a cheap ZoE2? Kinda want to check it out, but it's like $30+ on Amazon.

No idea, I just got lucky finding a used copy for $20 at a Gamestop that just opened a few months ago(I kept passing on it when it was new). And then hated myself for not getting it sooner...

I'm trading two of my five free blu-rays (which I have never opened) for a new copy of Ratchet and Clank Future. Yay.

edit: and my Logitech Z-5500's shipped. double yay!
I don't see how anyone could call that anything but dumb.
I've been thinking that about all the cinemas in the game. It's like Kojima read criticisms that his games are too melodramatic, overblown, and that the complexity of the dialogue does nothing but annoy, then he went and amped all that up to 11 in MGS4. This time, you also get the added bonus of wondering why you're watching a 30 minute shoot out, when you can be playing it. I mean
the end fight with Liquid and the Rex vs. Ray fight prove they could've mixed gameplay with cinematics, no?
The game, what little there is of it, is great though. I'll replay it a lot. If only for the part right before that part :)

Even with framerate issues, mass effect is a must play IMHO... beat the shit outa Bioshock in my books.

to be honest, I didn't consider 2007 a great year of gaming... it was a good year for the industry but that's all I can say. It shaped what gaming is now and is going to be. 2008 is the year of actual good games though. it's already riding a high with GTAIV and MGS4.

Game is well worth that price.
Am I the only one that doesn't group games into their year of release? I couldn't tell you what my GOTY was for 200x.
I don't really group my games like that either, but give me a year and a list of games and I bet I could pick my GOTY no problem.

I plan on finishing MGS4 tonight.

Then buying Uncharted. How long did that free blu ray thing go until?

I know it isn't a game, but I got the Metal Gear Solid comic book for my PSP today. It was under $13! I am going to mess around with it and try to sell it while there is a Metal Gear Solid craze!

MISSION: SUCCESS!

So I got the game for $12.XX and sold it for $40. Half took $6 commission and I am getting $36.XX, probably around $3 to ship. SO I made $20! WOOOOOHOOOO!

Just one of those different strokes for different folks things. I loved a lot of games last year, couldn't give a shit less about GTAIV, MGS4 or most of the stuff coming out this year as I don't like those franchises.

I am not a big fan of the GTA games, but this year is better than last because I love MGS. MGS was one of the reason I wanted a PS3, not that it has dropped, I am happy. I finally have a game that is awesome. Not awesome for the PS3 library, but an awesome game. But I can totally understand why people don't like these games.

After watching it steadily go down from 29.99 at Gamestop over the last couple years, I finally picked up Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP (13.XX after EDGE and coupon).

It's like a 90's orgy in my pocket!

Just finished MGS4. Game was pretty sweet, but I had no love for Act 3. Too much like Splinter Cell Solid for me.

I think I'll give MGS3 another try. Absolutely hated the game start to finish, but I think part of that was due to:

a) It not being a true MGS game (Seriously, it should've been called Metal Gear 0)

b) It having a completely unrealistic story that was just insane.

Playing MGS4 & replaying MGS I realize the MGS series as a whole is about as rooted in reality as Super Mario is. Think I'll head into MGS3 with a different mindset.

Well, soon as I finish PA over on my poor discarded 360. Don't worry, now that Daddy's done with MGS4, I can go back to loving the shit outta you.

After finishing MGS4 I don't see how you could say MGS3 isn't a true MGS game. Most of the huge revelations in MGS4's plot come from prior knowledge received from MGS3.

Also MGS3 probably had the most realistic story out of all of them!

Because at the end of the day, it's still a prequel to the MG series, and ties more into Metal Gear, than the rest of the Solid series (sans MGS4, which they did a good job of tying 3 into)

I still stand by my belief that MGS3 should've been called MG0, and MGS4 should've been MGS3.

They might as well have called Portable Ops MGS4.

whoo whoo! almost done with jeanna darc!!

tomorrow... hopefully.

Well that's an argument over sequel numbering, which I agree with. Thing is almost no video game series seem to get it right... Like why does Ace Combat Zero take place before 5 but after 4, and Resident Evil 4 is not the 4th game in the series.

That video was great , lots of great cartoons there. Only a few I didn't recognize or barely remembered. Sam and Max (never knew this as a cartoon , just a game) , Mighty Max (barely remember) , Shirlock Holmes in the 22nd century , Sonic Underground (remember but never watched it back in the day) , Bill and Ted (barely remember) , Dragon Warrior (never knew this was a show either). Only one I didn't recognize at all was the one before Mighty Max (around the 12:00 mark I think).

To stay on topic , I posted a portion of my backlog in the "help cags choose games from there backlog" thread , and was hoping maybe for some suggestions , since I've only gotten about two from that thread so far.

You mean how Code Veronica shoulda been RE4? Or how Nemesis shouldn't have been RE3?

How many other series though are that goofy with there numbering though (final fantasy notwithstanding). It seems like most series are pretty good about it overall. Just the really longrunning ones that tend to get kind of screwy.

Speaking of Resident Evil , anybody read the RE novels? I know they take a lot of liberties with the source material , but would NOT having played some of the games have an effect on reading the books? For example , since I haven't played RE0 yet , would it be bad to read the RE0 novel before playing the game?

 as much as I hate Smash Bros it seems I'm getting it in a trade this week... silly irony.

at least I'll finally play as king dede, whom I've always been a huge fan of from the kirby series.

playing Love Story (aka "0 Story") for ps2. haha so far i have encountered, rape, rape, girl on girl action, drugging, and singing. Talk about a great love story lol.

GOTY fo shore.

MGS3S is still the best of the series.

MGS4 is good, but fails at greatness. Sorry. I'm going to do a full writeup of my thoughts sometime. A quick and dirty summary would be that MGS4 succeeds neither as a game or movie, because it drags you from the interesting parts of one into the boring parts of the other far too frequently.

Please, Konami. MGS4 Subsistence with VR missions and bonus missions- Put to use all of these incredible assets and scenarios you've made. Don't let them solely exist saddled by MGS4's bloated and ultimately nonsensical plot.. There are parts I'd love to play again, but I don't know if I can stomach the story a second time.

My boy bought two of those for $6, sold them on eBay for $90 each.

I'm in the process of buying Twin Snakes and a Wavebird off Craigslist for $30. I'll flip the Twin Snakes and give the Wavebird to my brother.
'sup?

Posting from my phone and PS3 until I build my new PC tomorrow.
I read about that in the OTT man. Sucks, but at least you figured out what the problem was. That shit would of pissed me off as well man. Everything should be okay then by tomorrow?

Yeah. My newegg package should be here when I wake up. It was for the best. Now, I will be able to overclock. Probably play Crysis.
