i agree that the baseball games are good games, but the sale would be much more effective if it included other sports titles to be discounted, ie nba 2k11, fifa 11, etc etc, rather than a competing baseball title.
This was an interesting experiment we developed. We wanted to try to run a cross-platform promotion involving buying one software game from PS3 and another game from Xbox 360. Many households own both hardware systems, so this is an opportunity to take advantage of a deal that involves both hardware systems.

Please feel free to tell us if you think this is a good idea, or if this is not. We are interested in your thoughts.
I can officially say only 1 card per transaction is how I loaded the promotion.
So if I am planning to buy both MK and Portal 2, in two separate transactions, can I then get two cards? (Leaving aside the whole $120/coupon side of it for right now.)

As a gamer with both systems, I feel that offering a deal on two games of the same sport is not such a good idea. Since the general consensus is that MLB The Show is the better game, why would I bother sinking my time and money on a less polished game of the same type?

I agree with the other CAGs requesting other sports titles included in the deal instead.

As a baseball junkie I absolutely love it! Unfortunately I already have both so I won't be partaking. Now had you been able to run something like that the first week it would have been insane, but I'm smart enough to realize that would have been impossible. But if I remember correctly both games had $15 in SYWR points that week, so it basically ends up being the same amount in savings.

What's that saying about patience being a virtue?

Just curious, is the PS3 version of 2K11 included? As much as I love 2K11 on the 360, I can't imagine a PS3 owner choosing it over The Show unless they only want to play online (2K11 absolutely rapes The Show in this department), but you seem to be focusing on the cross-platform aspect but since both games are on PS3 I was curious if that would work should someone actually want both for the same system.

Admonster-- It's kind of a dumb experiment because theres no choice involved.

A better one would be something along the lines of: Buy Gears of war 3 and get (insert cross platform shooter here) for xbox or ps3 for x$.

Then you'd see if people are platform agnostic.

i thought you guys were going that route, i used to have a 360, but now just own a ps3. I think the idea was in the right place, but the bigger picture would be to have a multiple option discount, like buy this game, get a,b,c discounted (a,b,c being games that you can discount for us gamers, or maybe have a vote for gamers if possible, most likely sports related at least in this sale). But for the baseball fanatics out there this deal is win win, or maybe I should just get more into baseball :)

I don't disagree with your point of view. Perhaps baseball on one platform and basketball on another platform would be better. Then again, baseball enthusiasts might feel that these games are different enough where they would like both options.

Yeah those baseball fans are crazy ;)
But I'm sure there are still quite a few folks that will partake in the deal.

It's always nice to see you guys experimenting on different kinds of deals. Keeps you on your toes eh?

We are always trying to offer promotions that provide value to a breadth of customers.
any deals for prince of persia trilogy on april 19?
You could have gotten this game from UK shipped for $21 USD last month... Rather than waiting another week or so for $30-$40... I'm playing the Sands of Time right now, it's pure awesomeness, the 3D is very very good. If the US version has separate trophies, I well not hesitate to double dip.

I like the idea of cross-platform promotions. I have an Xbox 360 and my brother who has a PS3 went to college. If I could get any game and then the other platform version discounted is a good idea in my book, for a weekly promotion on specific titles.

Also, I saw 3rd Birthday on PSP at one of my Kmarts. Does this mean Final Fantasy IV Complete will be available too, maybe with a promotion?
I can officially say only 1 card per transaction is how I loaded the promotion.
Does that mean only one DISCOUNTED card with purchase of either Portal or Mortal per transaction? Or does that mean only one card will count towards the 120 promotion?

I know it is kind of confusing since there is two promotions going, but I want to know if I can buy Mortal Kombat for 59.99 + 1 discounted MSP card for 10 + 3 more msp cards for 59.97 to reach the required pretax 120? In other words, can more than one msp card be used to reach the required 120?

This is pure speculation on my part, but this question has been asked many times without an official response. I would have to think they would because it would be pretty impressive and/or impossible for them to program the system to only accept one card towards a promotion. To me it would have to be an "all or nothing" type situation when it comes to counting towards the $120. Just my $0.02.

Pass on cross-platform promotions. I've got both systems, but primarily game on the PS3.

Besides, there's a reason why no other retail does them..

While the deal doesn't interest me because I am not a huge baseball fan, plus I think MLB 11 would be the only one I would get for an entire year so 2K11 doesn't interest me. Just because no retailer does it doesn't mean it's a bad idea. For example, no retailer EVER had $30 off a $50 PSN/XBL card before and I think that worked out very well.
it's in the first post, buy $40 worth of gaming software, get $15 coupon, buy $120 get 40 (a $15+$45) with the purchase of portal 2 OR mortal kombat, get $10 off a $20 psn or 1600 points card (these cards also apply towards the $40 or $120 gaming software requirement so u can get two new games at 59.99 and still make it over that 120 pretax requirement
Oh, I didn't think about that.

Anyone think Amazon will price match on the 17th?

So assuming Amazon price matches, if I get MK and Portal 2 and a $20 PSN card, it will come out to roughly $70? Anyone have a speculative answer for me?

No it'd come out to roughly $130 and a future $60 credit and no Amazon wouldnt match that in a million years.

Maybe not, but Amazon often matches sale prices. There's still a chance. I'm waiting to pre-order MK.

Minus the $60 credit ($130-60=70). I have actual Amazon credit, so I wouldn't be spending money.

The credit is off a future purchase. Even if you have credit you still are paying $130 for it.

Too many times people think "Oh it's $70 for two games and a $20 card because I get $60 credit." Then in a month when they use the $60 they think "Sweet FREE GAME!"

I don't think of it like that.

I have $160 credit. Spend $130 on MK, Portal 2 (trading it in, and keeping it for PC unless you can't trade in PS3 version and keep PC one), and $10 (20) PSN card, leaves me with $30 credit, plus $60 later on, if they do price match, so I'd have $90 left (but that's for 2 full $60 retail games).

Plus, there's many games I'm planning on buying this year.

Dang how did you get that much credit? My school gives out free Amazon giftcards for participating in research studies/surveys, so I've been able to treat Amazon like a rental service. Got Bulletstorm for $58 credit and received $20 credit and then got $40 credit for trading it back in the first week.

Anyway I'm excited, it's nearly here :D
Dang how did you get that much credit?
Not really sure to tell you the truth! =)

Got Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2 for free as a gift, and I traded them in for $40 each. Plus, $20 pre-order credit I received on lots of games, such as KZ3 and LBP2. Just added up over time.

Plus, if you pre-order a game and get $20 credit, if you trade in the game within 2 weeks you could get $40 credit, so you basically end up getting free rentals.

I'd totally be down for the $120 and/or points cards card deals if those gaming coupons lasted through Infamous 2 release. That 45 day time limit kills the deal for me.
What 45 day time limit?
I meant the usual 45 day expiration date on gaming coupons, but I just read back in the thread and saw that it's even less for this promotion. The 4/17 coupons expire on May 21st, and there aren't any games coming out that I want before then. I could spend the coupons on point cards or something, but it's just disappointing I can't save them until the games I really want come out.
The $60 coupon only lasts 45 days.
Oh thanks.

BTW, how long do $20 pre-order game, promotional credits last? I think I deleted my email and there is no way to check details for promotional credit.

it does show up in the shopping cart checkout process though. I don't know when my credit will expire though. Will they at least email me with a warning?

Won't it be charged immediately and count for pre-orders?

I know they don't bill your credit card until the game ships, but pretty sure it applies toward pre-orders immediately, if I'm not mistaken.

I really have no idea what you are talking about here. Are you talking about amazon? Because everyone else is talking about K-Mart. K-Mart does not do pre-orders and you can't use the coupons online.

I'm afraid I don't know how their online sales work, or even if these promotions are valid there. I've only dealt with KMart's brick & mortar operation, which does not allow for spending coupons on preorders.

Oh, you responded to my Amazon question earlier, so I assumed you were talking about Amazon. Sorry, my mistake.

But I tried pre-ordering MK (didn't finalize order), but the $20 seemed to be applied immediately. Need to change address though since I moved to a different state yesterday.

Yes I did reply to your comment about amazon, but it was related to K-Mart. You then replied to someone who said the coupon expires before inFamous 2 comes out, Which clearly was a K-Mart coupon, had nothing to do with amazon.
The $60 coupon only lasts 45 days.
Actually it's only 4 weeks...
I want to explain a little more about how the $60 coupon works. It will actually print out 2 coupons. One will be for $15 and the other one will be $45 = $60. When you buy $40 to $119.99 in gaming software or gaming cards the sytem will print out 1 coupon for $15. If you spend that extra penny and hit $120, then the system will print out a $15 and a $45 coupon. The coupons will be redeemable starting 4/24 and will be valid for 4 weeks.
I will be out of the office until 4-18 in China for business. Ad Monster will be posting in my stead:

I was just thinking about something weird today that might be an idea for you and josh.

Since nintendo always gives you trouble with MAPS and coupons, could you consider maybe implemenating a coupon that is just valid on a future preorder? Maybe print a 5 dollar gamer coupon for anything (standard) and then a "free" 5 dollar off preorder on a future title.
Quick question. If I buy 2 59.99 games, will I need a 3rd item to add up the extra 2 pennies in order to get the $45 coupon?
Yes. If you're buying either Mortal Kombat or Portal 2 you can buy either a 1600 ms points card or a $20 PSN card that same week for $10.

Or just find a cheap game.

are you guys going to be selling the socom4 full deployment edition? does this 4-17 offer last the whole week? if so im in! ill drive the 40 miles to kmart for that kinda deal.

Thanks for the quick answer. :D

My Kmart doesn't carry point cards so I plan on picking up Crysis 2 along with mk and portal 2 that week.
And if we can buy multiple you would only need to buy 6 PSN $20 cards, but 7 XBL's.
Yeah, I plan to buy 7x 1600 pts cards because I loaded up on $160 worth of PSN cards for $80 back when Kmart had that "buy a $20 PSN card and get a $10 coupon with no activation delay" deal. I miss those days...

AD MONSTER: still waiting for a confirmation that buying $120+ worth of points cards all by themselves will still qualify for the $60 in coupons. Thanks.

Yeah that's a good choice since Crysis 2 is supposed to be $39.99 that week.
