since you seem to be a tales fan is that tales game for 3DS they announced a remake of a PS2 game? I've never played one because the anime-ness of them was a big turn off. Was Tales of Abyss suppossed to be a good one?
I don't mean to intrude, but while I haven't played every Tales game, I can confidently say (as a hardcore RPG fan) that Tales of the Abyss is not only among the PS2's best RPGs, but it's also one of the best RPGs I've ever played. I've also read that lots of Tales fans consider TotA among the best in the series. I can't wait for the 3DS remake, just so I can play it on the go. :bouncy:
Abyss is a straight port with no additional aside from fixing stuff like loading time.
Ah okay. I thought I read something about a few additional skits and stuff. But nevermind

Agree, Tales of the Abyss is really good.... Jade is the walking pillar of godhood in that game. I rate abyss better than vesperia story wise. On the other hand, i am not sure if i can stand the dub of the game... the japan version sound a lot better and they voiced the skit too.

Ipod games are just plain limited by the nature of their controls. You're never going to be able to replace a 3DS or PSP/NGP with a device that has no buttons. That's as bad as saying that Kinect, Move, and Wii motion nonsense can replace controllers, because, you know, they're popular.

I love my touch for music and web browsing but I refuse to buy another game for it. $0.99 games are meaningless when you turn them on once and then never play them again. I guess some people do that with everything though. And I fail to see how gaming can "push ahead" on a device where you can be interrupted by a phone call or text message at any time, which doesn't have button control, and which has a marketplace where only $1 games and bad ports of console titles from huge publishers can succeed.

The so called "gimmicks" is what has made nintendo so successful the last few generations. The gamecube was the only one without a significant "gimmick" and that turned out poorly.

NGP is the one that's going to be more questionable, I think. It's positioned as an all around media device and the size of that thing is going to be hard to sell. Want a portable media device? Ipod touch. Want a larger, more laptop-like experience? Ipad. NGP sits somewhere between that and I don't think anyone is going to buy one for non-gaming reasons. Just like I don't think a lot of people are going to pay $300-400 to play current gen HD games on a 6 inch screen.
Well you're focusing on the games alone. Half of the problem is that's all Nintendo does right. Ipod doesnt do that as well currently of course, but it does so much more than games. To think that even a current gen ipod is no competition for the 3DS is naive imo. Ask the kids what they want when Christmas comes around. Sure it may be a 3DS but if they're 10-17 or so you might find there's some killer competition.

And screw the ipod, imagine any device with cutting edge tech that not only has 3DS or better quality games, but also has the features of an ipod. It's not hard to imagine, it will come, and Nintendo will be left in the dust if they dont quit with their gimmicky bs implementations of technology that is not ready for prime time and get with it.

And no I dont think Sonys NGP will be that device.
I think you forgot and left out the orange box and fallout 3 :)
Now that's funny!
I admit I was a bit hasty in my comment. I completely forgot about FFXIII as that is the only multi-platform game I've ever bought for the PS3. I know that sometimes there is exclusive content which can certainly be a selling point but I was thinking more strictly along the lines of performance and gameplay. I hadn't heard anything about the other games you mentioned (exclusive content notwithstanding) being technically superior so I will definitely look into them.
Most of the time it is definitely not a major difference, but since I have the luxury of having all systems, there's no reason not to do a bit of research before buying. Usually the difference are due more to the game engine being used, and whichever platform the engine was native on. For instance, Capcom's engine is :360: native while Namco's engine descends from the original PlayStation's dev kit, so by default I always assume I'll be getting Namco games for :ps3: unless testing proves otherwise for a specific game. Most of the games I listed have extra content, but that isn't my only consideration. For example, I was initially tempted to buy Mafia II for :ps3: due to the free bonus DLC, but the :ps3: version of that game is so *abysmally* bad that I'm *more* than willing to pay an extra $5 for the DLC (when it went on sale for 50% off) to go with the vastly better :360: version. The weakest choices on my list were Castlevania (which is only better by 1 or 2 frames per second) and AC2, which basically performs identically, but I was lured by the promise of cross-linking it to the PSP version, which turned out to be a useless thing.
I am assuming you are like me and your Wii collection is just the 1st party titles (Metroid, Mario, etc)
Actually, only 18 out of 55 titles are Nintendo. I have basically every good game ever released for the :wii:, IMO. The 'gems' of the system, such as No More Heroes, De Blob, MadWorld, Little King's Story, the Resident Evil games, Deadly Creatures, A Boy & His Blob, Dead Space Ignition, NBA JAM, Epic Mickey, Goldeneye, Mushroom Men, Conduit, all are 3rd-party standouts.
Sorry to be slightly off-topic, but at least two people have said that Burnout Paradise was better on PS3. I'm genuinely curious, what made it better? Was there extra content?
Burnout Paradise was actually developed natively for the :ps3:. At the time, EA's games were universally running like crap on the :ps3:, and in an effort to 'figure it out', they developed an entirely new game engine for it, and Paradise was the end product. Later, they merged what they had learned into a new version of their cross-platform game engine and ever since, the EA titles have been basically equal on both platforms. However, the :360: version of Paradise was actually a port back from the :ps3: onto an older EA engine, and as a result, the framerate is notably more inconsistent, and it sometimes freezes during loads which were originally seamless. It also crashes more often, and didn't get the Ultimate Box version treatment in North America.

As for something that's more on-topic, I can't wait to hear the rest of the LA Noire deal. I'm also hoping that Brink ends up being as good as I've hoped, because I'll definitely be spending part of my $60 gaming coupons on it, too, if it is. And Josh, I really hope you can do something awesome with Splinter Cell Trilogy and Duke Nukem Forever, because those are Day 1 purchases for me if the deal is good! SCT for $30 or less, and Duke for $40 or less, preferably $35 ;)

the coupons discussed are actual tangible coupons right? like I will receive it in my hand when i buy la noire?

or is it like i have to be signed up to that points reward system or w/e?

Also is it true the coupons only last for 1 month? Can they be used same day , like i buy 1 new game and use 20$ coupon on a different game in the same check out
also can you use these coupons towards online preorders or offline preorders, or is this all in-store only?

Post #4 has the answers you seek.

So, is today the day i get to walk into Gamestop and tell them to cancel my pre-order for LA Noire and they can credit me back my money so I can buy it from Kmart? Hoping we find out the additional + on the deal, if it's a 20 dollar card, I'm in like Flynn, that will make up for not getting any bonus DLC at launch. :)
Keep it classy.
I believe I did, thanks.

Sidenote: Anyone who hasn't picked up Portal 2 is out of their mind not to for 35.00. Unless you hate logic/puzzle games of course, then you'd be out of your mind to put yourself through it. The game isn't difficult for those who like that type of thing though.
Anyone got a speculation to what the Kmart deal for LA Noire may be?
Just to put this one to bed :) I am trying to set it up so that with every purchase you can get a $20 game and below free. Trying to clear out of some of the older games.

Not approved yet, but you can see where I'm trying to go.
I got the kmart salespaper today and saw portal 2 is going to be $34.99 next week and I was like WTF??? I too may never buy another game at launch. I was already debating on if I should get LA Noire when it comes out.
Very important heads up on Portal 2, this is in the circular! Please remember that. This is not a blog promotion so non-roto locations will need to see the ad.

I'll make sure to make that note in the blog as well.
Eh, believe what you want. Nintendo is going to once again dominate E3, and you'd be a fool to think every new game announced will be for Cafe. We didn't know about DKC or Kirby until E3 last year, and they launched less than 5 months later.

Some people won't like the games they offer either way, but to suggest its not going to be financially successful? Hokay, guy.
I actually do think they will surprise everyone at E3 as well. At least I am hoping so.

I think they definitely saw that publishers struggled with selling games through their system not long into the life cycle of the Wii. The casual base is not the same type of play pattern they were used to. Not catering to the gamer has consequences.
So I am holding off on WWE All Stars will there be a better deal anytime soon then the one that is currently up?
Not until June.
I'm so close to never buying a game on release date again.

Portal 2 already slashed in half pretty much? MK slashed in half at TRU...the fuck?
I think a lot of it is due to the time of year as well. The selling patterns during April and May are so weak due to overall traffic in retail. Outside of destination purchases you really have to amp it up quick during these months to close a transaction. July is the same way really.
Have you guys seen a sharp drop off of 3DS sales since launch?

With almost nothing interesting planned until like, June, I would think that people would wait if they didn't get it at launch.

I'm so desperate for new 3DS games I'm thinking about buying that Samurai Warriors game. lol.

I'll probably get both DoA and Resident Evil if I don't have to pay $40 for them.
Definite drop off; $249 just doesn't work for this thing IMO.

Many will think it but someone needs to say it.... FAIL
Nobody wants your cheap games we want your $20 coupons.

Portal 2 $35 heck yea.

EDIT: Reading last page of replies about confirmed coupon....... Is the free $20 or less game in addition to a coupon or in the place of???? If in addition to the deal is rim rocking.

Josh had said he was trying to make LA Noire's offer similar to the Black Ops launch deal, which hopefully means coupon AND discount on a game. That would be pretty awesome if true.

Hey all, I took advantage of the 150+ worth of games deal last week, 2 of the games I decided I do not want now. They are unopened, was wondering if I were to exchange them would that screw up with my coupons I received? The 15/60 ones.

Josh I've been wondering if you have some upcoming deals for older EA games such as Dead Space 2 and Need for Speed. I just got a nice pair of gaming headphones and I read that those two games in particular can blow you away.

Thanks in advance.

Wow. coupon + free game!?!?!?!

BTW, can we see some price drops with some of the older games to go along with this promo?

Dead Space 2 is on sale this week for $44.99. I don't think the next deal on those games will be until June.

It is in addition; it is not confirmed yet. But that is what I am trying to do. The $20 coupon though is for sure.

Looks like I came back in at the right time! I missed the $20 coupon thing.... The combo would be epic, you continue to amaze!

I just DL'ed the 2 Dead Rising 2 "arcade" games on sale this week on XBL... Any chance Dead Rising 2 will have a sale anytime soon? Clear a lil shelf space! *cough*cough* ;)

I think that would be a great way to get rid of some old games. But you should stick to your guns and make sure that it's only good for one game up to $19.99 because we all know CAGS. They will be asking that it be $20 off ANY game, getting two $9.99 games, free points cards, etc.

While it may not seem fair to some that if there is a game that they want that's only $14.99 and someone else might get a $19.99 game, a free game is a free game.

Josh, I noticed that your location is in Chicago so you must know the locations pretty well. The Kmart on Foster near Cicero NEVER has PSN cards in stock and the past few times the one in Norridge near Halem as well.

Awesome. I can think of a couple $19.99 games that I skipped during last week's promo that I might consider picking up. Win!

Upon the return they will either devalue the coupons or ask they be returned.

That's a pretty cool idea, but if you could magically get the approval (and make it financially viable), I don't think anything could top making the spend $120/get $60 coupons permanent. B2G1 once is a great deal. BUT, if it continued and one of the B2 could always basically be paid for with the coupons from the last one, I don't think anyone here would ever get off the Kmart train. :D

Has any thought been given to making one of the posts on the front page into a wiki post? Then this way when Josh mentions a deal, but is not 100% sure about it, someone can edit that post with the information. Would have been perfect for the Portal 2 deal.
I think Josh should have full control of what he wants to put in the OP.
I'm not saying the OP, just one of the posts on Page 1, so its somewhere everyone can find it. Or can only the first post be wikified?

Slickdeals has something like that, where there's a Wiki community board placed somewhere in a thread. I dunno, man. I dunno.

I just wiki'd it thinking I could change it back.....doesn't look like I can. Well, we'll see how this goes. It looks like I get first right of refusal on entries in order to validate them.

Yeah I really like that $20 free game idea. My kmart has piles and piles and piles of $20 games that will never sell.

Can only the first post be wiki'd? I guess that would make sense but post #9 seems like a good spot if it could be lower down.

And I'm sure a mod could change the first post back if it's a complete disaster.

Whelp... Looks like it's time for KmartGamer 6.0! Just kidding.

In any case, I don't think you'll run into any problems. And if you encounter any, at least now you'll know.

So josh, if i exchange a game i bought under the BUY $120 get $60 promo, for a game of equal or greater price, that will make my coupons void? I bought 1 game to get me over the threshold to exchange for something else later this coming week. That kinda stinks. I can understand taking a game back for your refund, but an even exchange seems legit to me.
well, since it's wiki'd, maybe someone will delete the week old deals?
I just did ;)
