LE Halo 3 Scratched Discs - MS Offers Free Replacement Through 12/31/07
why exactly did you buy the game?
Because he plans on getting one at some point and didn't want to miss out on the Collector's Edition?

Have there been pics of retail copies of the Legendary Edition going up anywhere? I know IGN put up a video, but I was under the impression that the LE they got was different from retail.

i dont have a 360 either and i pre-ordered the CE ...
i did it because i thought i would buy one by now or that it'll be a push to get me to buy one.
i was about to too until i ran into some more financial problems
CE's case looked cool and with liongames it was like getting the regular version price vise.

anyways i'll just have to play it on my friends 360 until i get one myself.
Yeah...I can go back to my PS2 games, my PS1 games, my Xbox games, my GCN games, and they all pretty much have scratches. It's an inevitability if you actually play them.
I just checked some of my most-played discs and this is not true for most of them. I played the hell out of Tony Hawk 3 for PS2 and it's still in pristine condition, I could reshrink-wrap it and no one would even tell it was used.

I bought the lim. ed. yesterday before I knew of the "scratched" problem. I bought a new Elite yesterday so when I came home I opened up the lim. ed. and looked at the disk surface. The game disk is scratched all to hell and it has fingerprints on it. The fingerprints look like they were from someoe who had some kind of sticky stuff on them. The essentials disk was also scratched up but no where near as bad as the game disk.

Somebody posted a picture in the H3 thread. The LE case is basically the RE case but brown. The extra material has its own case.

What the hell. This is bullshit. Mine is scratched too (of course), but it's bogus that you should have to pay shipping to send it in. Hell, you shouldn't even have to send first. You should be able to email them a copy of your receipt, they send you the game, then you send yours back. They'll claim it's so people don't cheat to get the game free, well, if they don't get the scratched copy back, charge em for it. arggg

Well, I'm a bad CAG. My CE discs are now on the way to Microsoft for replacement, and I bought the regular edition to tide me over till then. I fail.

However, I did use the $10 off $75 coupon with a points card at BB, and I will sell my soon-to-be used regular copy fairly cheap here once my newer, more playable discs come back. So I redeem myself a little, I guess.

The sad part: if the game and essentials discs would have been in opposite places, my game disc would have been usable (the essentials disc in the back was barely scratched at all. :bomb: )

is all you guys do is bitch? oh wow your precious little game disc is scratched, boo-hoo. will you stop blaming microsoft for all of your life problems? bill gates cant solve everyone of your little issues. if you think about it its your guys faults for having scratched cds. you shoudlent have bought the limited edition in the first place. everyone knows a true halo fan would get hte legendary edition. if your gonna bitch fine, but you better have a reason for doing so. and you guys dont. and stop blaming microsoft, they didnt "Screw up" anything, the only ones who have screwed up are YOU guys for not getting the correct edition.

So when a brand new $70 game comes unplayable right out of the sealed packaging, and it's happening to people all over the country, this is OUR fault? I'm not mad my discs were scratched, I'm mad that my game disc was scratched to the point of it being unplayable. I would think any consumer, no matter whether he/she is a "true halo fan" or not, would expect a brand new game to come in playable condition.

And I'm sorry if I'm not enough of a "true halo fan" for you. Yeah, a true fan would spend another $80 over the deal I got on that CE. And, by the way, this is "cheapassgamer", not "retardblindfanboygamer".

considering youll be able to sell the legendary edition on ebay for hundreds of $$$$ one day.... yeah whos the retard now. by the way, have fun staring at that empty space on your shelf which could have been occupied by your master chief helmet. maybe ill sell mine a few years down the road on ebay to you for about, say, $500. youll wish you preordered it. also, stop bitching please. none of this is microsofts fault, look in the mirror for the true problem to your scratched disc.
OMGZ... how many of these discs were scratched???

seems like theres some punks over at microsoft pulling some mean prank..
the actual number is grosely overstated. i would say only 10% of the discs are affected.

ban?...

either way it will be a long time before the legendary edition becomes valuable...i walked into a gamestop today and picked one up with some trade in credit with no problem...and they had quite a few more as well....

...ok, this has to be a joke account. This goes too far below the average intelligence level of a CAG poster, even after dropping that level by 5 standard deviations.

If not, welcome go CAG, day one noob. Try not to post such hypocritical crap, as other users have already pointed out.

i got the collector's edition. didn't feel the need to have the helmet accessory. and i liked how the case looked. even if i would've gotten the legendary edition...my gf probably would've laughed at me...not a good thing...
what process do I follow?

Do I just ship the game to them?

What about the form?
Go read the first post in the thread. You'll see it.

I went to Target today, shook 30 Limited Editions. 2 out of 30 were secure.

It's not difficult to tell if it's secure or not. When the disc is loose, it will make a loud bang and is very distinct from hearing the manual/papers move around. It's like a "can't-miss" sound.

In fact, it even hurts to hear the disc move around like that.
yep... this is why i avoid nintendo like the plague and stick with $ony portables. you know your company is not reputable when high profile games come broken right out of the package.
:applause:

And the award for stupidest person alive goes to..... the game wizard come on down!

*Price is right music plays*

The game wizard has probably killed himself through autoerotic asphyxiation. On another note, has anybody replaced their game discs through Microsoft before?

you realize some of those discs may not have been scratched even if they were loose. now they definitely are scratched.

My Target had a "shake station" where a box of 30 Halo 3 LEs were put. The store's policy was to shake them all, regardless of scratches or not.

They're just checking for loose discs.

Oddly, to buy the game, the CSR had to open the game on the spot as well to make sure the disc is secure.

circuit city in puente helped me opened 11 of them all scratched, they gave a smudged one. testing it right now if it doesn't work i'll just turn it in and wait for the new shipment

the game disc was fine, but the bonus disc was scuffed up for me. ill take it back when i have the chance.
The car does apply to the scenario just on a grander scale idiot. Regardless of what item is purchased the manufacturer is obligated to deliver you a mint product if that is what you paid for. I could careless if your disc runs it is still scratched, just like a scratched vehicle will run. Sure comparing the car and the disc is like comparing apples to oranges, but the argument of providing a mint product for said price for both items is comparing apples to apples. Everything depreciates once you take possession, but that depreciation shouldn't start with you getting a damaged item right off the bat that you had no clue about.
I have to agree with people who got the scratched disks, they better be replacing it because this is their reputation their willing to sacrifice if they dont replace it, the dvd they make it on costs atleast 1-3 dollars prolly even cheaper considering it''s MS, the shipping to replace it is like maybe 1 dollar for them and that is all they sacrifice to make someone happy.....afterall they just made 80 follars minus taxes an d crap.
Because he plans on getting one at some point and didn't want to miss out on the Collector's Edition?
Thank you for putting it so perfectly, Damian. You are correct, sir!

Anyways, went back to Best Buy Wednesday night. When the greeter guy saw my copy of H3, he said, "Yeah, we've been getting a lot of those."

So I stepped up the customer service counter. Showed the scratched disc to the associate. He called the games section to see if there were any more "Legendary" copies in the back--keep in mind, I bought a Limited edition. So when the other guy brought back 2 LegEd copies, there was some confusion. But, in case any one was looking for LegEd that didn't preorder, head to Fullerton, CA.

Anyways, they brought back a box of LimEds, they began to shake 'em. It took the 3rd case before he found a quiet one. He let me open it. Essentials disc had some spots on it, but no scratches. However, I may have Shaq-fu'd myself--my Game Disc copy was pristine; the one in the exchange copy had a faint scratch, but I didn't think that would be a problem. He let me exchange outer sleeves (the exchange copy's had a chunk bent forward at the top)...I don't know why I didn't think to swap Game Discs. *sighs* Well, I have 30 days to buy the 1-year warranty. Is peace of mind worth $4.99+tax? (Yeah, I know I should just buy a 360, but that probably won't happen until next year.)

Oh, and the associate did mention something about how these scratch incidents were on the Xbox website, but said nothing about MS's exchange program...

So, it was a positive experience overall. Don't be afraid to demand! :applause:

I got my 360 money through Club Live, but after they sent me Vista I didn't get any more prizes so I have no idea if they're sending out again.

Mine are both scratched, both neither is too badly scratched. They probably would work, but I am sending them out today for replacement, and just take my lumps and wait 2 weeks or so before I play. I am highly annoyed, but the world is not ending and there are certainly plenty of other games I can play until then.
I'm no pro at online, so whether I played at 12:30 am tuesday night, or today, or 2 weeks, etc...i'll still get crushed most of the time...lol.

ah, mine are scratched. i knew i should've just left it sealed and returned it. oh well...taking it to best buy to downgrade to standard and get some money back...i don't feel like waiting for microsoft to replace my discs. best buy should understand considering a lot of ppl are bringing back their cds scratched.
