League of Legends anyone?
Maybe give an example of each class by explaining a simple hero (for example Ashe for Ranged DPS or Garen for melee, Nocturne for jungle, Annie for mage, Sona for support, Chogath for tank) and give a basic run-down of their abilities (or just 1 ability each) as to why they are in that category of class.

When explaining towers/nexus, explain how you cant just go to the 2nd turret and skip the first, you gotta go in order for each lane.

Maybe explain the importance of "bushes" to hide and how wards can counter that.

Explain how in traditional RPG's your items carry over between play sessions, but in a MOBA, you basically start with no items and work your way up in items every game.

How LOL has the biggest # of viewers for an e-sport, over 100,000 simultaneous viewers for Dreamhack last year. LOL is bigger than SC2 in Korea

When explaining about "carrying a game", talk about FlipprDolphin.

When explaining about "feeding", talk about Waughoo.
You can tower skip (backdoor) in many mobas.
There are no bushes in most moba games.

Maybe mention meta-rules. Compare it to house rules in board games. Related to backdooring, its seen is an unsportsmanlike strategy by many players so its sort of a social taboo to backdoor even though the game allows it. Also those dumb ass all random all mid games in LoL. People lose their shit if you don't play by their imaginary rules.

Mention Fog of War, maybe talk about its relationship to the military term. Its very interesting I think that games in general have adopted this idea into a very literal sense.

You said your goal was to explain mobas, don't get too focused on LoL-only features unless you're doing a section on how the games differ. Bushes imo are stupid, but more importantly not a normal part of the moba genre.

I wouldn't mind the bushes if they actually functioned correctly. Half the time someone is invisible while you're in the bush with them, or you have a bush warded yet you cant see the enemy.

My classmates. It's a video game design class (which sounds more fun than it is).

I'm focusing on LoL since it's become the most popular MOBA game and what I know best since I've never played DotA and very little of HoN and DotA2.

You shouldn't focus on any of the games if your goal is to present mobas. You should focus on the things they have in common as a genre if that is your goal. Its just bad form for a presentation/paper.

First rule of paper writing is set your thesis and always make sure everything you do supports it.

Since I've pretty much exclusively played LoL, it's what I'm going to use as an example of MOBAs when I explain what they are, how they're played, etc. I'll mention differences with Dota/2 and HoN, but I'm not going to go through a laundry list where I say: "In LoL, things are this way. In DotA and HoN, they're this way." It's not important to know that minion wave sizes are different, there's no recall button in DotA/HoN, and other minor differences. Doing that is boring.

Yeah, you want to get your class excited about MOBAs not bored to death with useless information.

I don't know what it is, but last night, every game I played with the new champ on my team, that player did not know how to play LoL. I mean I understand it's day one of the champ being out, people need to learn how to use him, but these players were like LOL I am just gonna rush in 1v5 and die .

I had a Teemo on my team last night, he pings me, then Blue. I'm like "Oh cool, blue buff". I go over, start attacking blue, he comes along and takes it. "Ok, fine. Maybe he needed it more than me, whatever". But he goes in the bush at blue, and goes AFK. He's gone for like 5 minutes, we're losing fights because we're down a person. He finally comes back, takes wolves, pings blue again. I figured "Ok, this time I'll make sure I last hit it". So he starts it, I start hitting it, and then the entire other team rush our mid. Blue is almost dead so I try and finish it, but Teemo runs right into the teamfight and dies leaving 1 to defend mid. So I run there and forget about Blue. And then Teemo goes "OMG NOOB LUX, LOOK AT MAP! I DIE CUS YOU NO HELP" or something to that effect.

So he steals a buff, goes afk for 5 minutes, and bitches at ME becuase he ran right into 5 enemies that he knew was there. Right.

I don't think people realize he's not very tanky. Guys stacking move speed only then chasing people across the entire map while doing shitty damage to them, only to be baited into the entire enemy team -.-

Seen so many Teemos too, ugh. That champ needs to go die somewhere peacfully.

If you build the new champ slightly tanky with a PD, he is an absolute BEAST. But yeah, I cant help but laugh at the dudes that get like 3 Zeals and Mobility Boots (which are the dumbest thing to buy since your bonus damage decreases as soon as you attack something).

You seem to be missing your own point here. Of course the differences between them aren't interesting. Don't talk about stuff that is different. Talk about things typical to genre as a whole.

Focusing on any of the games is a mistake that will just make your presentation seem very one dimensional if you're explaining an entire genre through the lens of a single game.

Yes, I know you said you haven't played much of the other games, but that is NOT the feeling you want to give off when presenting information if you're supposed to be giving an informative presentation and it will be very obvious if you are constantly referring to LoL and neglecting the others.

I've played over 1500 games of LoL, I know enough about the genre to give an informative presentation. I'm sticking with LoL for describing how to play, terms, and character classes because it's easier for myself (having played it for so long) and my audience since they don't have to keep track of differences with 3 games.
Since yesterday I have had the joy of about 10 ranked matches with no chat. Let's just say they didn't go well.
Yeah. Played a game earlier where I called top, but apparently chat was broken. However, I was the first pick, so it was still fairly obvious (I mean, where else would a Cho with TP be going). Anyways, game starts, the Nid on our team see me go top and starts freaking out. I told her the chat must've been bugged, but I did call it. She said I was a fucking idiot and then wound up going 1-13. I guess it was my fault the chat was broken and that she was terrible.

Know what feels great? Going mid against an Arhi, then bursting her down and killing her in one combo. Then she comes back, burst her down some more. Then her Pantheon comes to gank, and ya snare him under your tower and kill him while you still have almost full health.

I was just in ranked and my team DESTROYED the enemy team

I think my team just countered them so well

They had: Warwick, Skarner, Ryze, Taric, Vayne

We had: Jungle Cho (me), Kayle (top), TF (mid), Lulu and MF

Skarner got ZERO ults the whole game basically,

We just seiged them and took down towers mid-late game, they couldnt get near us at all.

Skarner runs in, i silence, lulu slows. Nope, wont work. Warwick ults, we all stop him.

Almost 1500 ELO

woohoo

played a game last night with the usual suspects which perfectly demonstrated how... well i don't know if easy is the right term since it took forever... how simple? it is to turn a game around if you just stick it out.

we (me, zin, waughoo) weren't doing terrible, but nothing amazing. our pub cait did similar but our pub mundo had severe map awareness issues. about 40 mins into the game we had one of their towers and they had all of our first 2 and the mid inhib. things looked pretty grim.

we turtled up hardcore (except mundo who liked to frolic in the forest, he really does go where he pleases) and held them off for a good 15-20 minutes usually getting a kill and breaking their morale causing them to retreat to get our buffs and dragon and baron and try the push again. we ended up losing all of our towers except the base ones, but in those 15-20 minutes we caught up in level and farm from constantly repelling their pushes.

it wasn't fun sitting in base and waiting for them to make the moves, but we eventually caught them trying to split push and ended up wiping them thanks in large part to our cait who had some ridiculous cs by the time the game was through. pushed into their base which melted like butter at this point in the game and scored the win.

We would not have been in that situation if our Pubs were not idiots. They're getting owned on bot, but hey, why not push to their tower? Oh wait, mid called MIA, and retreat pinged? Nah, I'm sure we're gonna be fiOHCRAPITSFIZZ! We actually would have won a few of the mid game fights, but Mundo was getting Wraiths as he pleases instead of helping. Fizz got fed, and we could barely touch him. They could ace us in most teamfights, but ya know, Mundo is till gonna walk around the jungle alone and try to take a tower when they are all MIA.

Fun couple of games last night. I tried Jungle Malphite and he's actually not bad. He clears he small camps and small minions quick though the buff monsters take awhile.

His early game feels kinda week and I don't think I ganked in either one. But late game I was a beast. I loved using Q on their Warwick when his Bloodscent was on, so much movespeed.

The next game me, Flip, and Waughoo were at my blue and we ask them not to invade. So of course they all came and took my blue which put me behind. But we ended up winning again. I had Oracles for the last half of the game since I never died much.

Just started playing about a week ago. Very fun but I find the public community to be fairly poor when compared to some other team-based competitive games. Some people take it way too seriously, I guess. Still lots of champions for me to try, too, woo!
Some people take it way too seriously, I guess.
Awesome thanks.

And yeah people do take it way to seriously, I just got out of a game, the other team scored one kill on me but only because I was pushing as Mundo and it netted our team the ace. The game ended with them surrendering and it was like our 12 kills to their 1.

Kid I killed was saying "fuck you" and saying I was a try hard and all this hahaha too funny.

Whats with all the people in regular draft games now that complain about being matched with pre-mades? The last three games, the two pubbers complain that "WAH I ALWAYS GET PAIRED WITH PREMADES". Get some friends then.
Whats with all the people in regular draft games now that complain about being matched with pre-mades? The last three games, the two pubbers complain that "WAH I ALWAYS GET PAIRED WITH PREMADES". Get some friends then.
I actually think it's probably better you get matched with a premade. At least then you have some type of team coordination instead of just five random people. Then again people will bitch about anything in this game , and yeah get friends.

They all complained saying "premades are always rude and one-sided" (whatever that means). Whats funny is they made those complaints even AFTER my friends and I all asked them what they wanted to play. In the three games, of the six pubbers, we let five of them all play what they wanted (AKA what they immediately said as soon as the game started). I have no problem with the last pick wanting to play a position, but dont be a fucking tool about it.

These people go into the game with a shit attitude, and immediately start complaining and bitching at people, and it all really just goes even further down hill not but two minutes into champ select.

There was only one time I was really pissed about being in a premade. It was 4 of them and me. We were doing alright, might have been a couple kills behind but nothing we couldn't come back from. They say in chat that one of their friends is ready to play a game. So when it was 20 min, they surrendered.

My favorite is when I queue with my 3 other friends and then the 5th random guy starts telling us what we need and who to play as lmao, mean while we're in xbl party chat talking about the 5th guy.
xbl = xbox live?

you use your xbox to talk? Wierd
Yeah. Why is that weird? I'm already paying for XBL, no need to configure it and pay extra like Vent and it's open channel.

Seems like a completely unnecessary step, as well as being a hassle for crappy voice quality. Also, you can configure any of the voice servers (Mumble, Vent, TS, etc...) to be open channel (not sure why you'd want it that way though. I don't want to hear you breathing). Also, you don't have to pay for a voice server if you don't want to. There are plenty of sites that offer free Vent servers, or hell, jump on Mumble and join one of the hundred+ free servers that always have hundreds of open slots.

Just saying, never heard of anyone who games on the PC using XBL as their form of voice chat.

What is with everyone playing games that are 4-5 carries. Lately I been facing a ton of teams that would have 4-5 carries, all ranged too. I mean I guess there is nothing wrong with it, but it's just annoying as fuck to face sometimes.

I remember we had a group of 5 once, and we all played tanks with Fortify and Teleport. We were getting owned early game but they had a hell of a time getting towers. Eventually we got too tanky and they couldnt kill any of us.

Well playing video games isn't an extraneous activity for me and I'm not fat or a mouth breather. Sorry me using my xbox my way is such an inconvenience for you, I'll keep doing what I'm doing since none of what you mentioned is an issue for me. 1. Turn xbox on. 2. Join party. Don't know what hassle you're talking about.

Does anyone know if Mundo can be made into a good dps champ or is it pointless?

Besides everyone thinking you are fat and insecure, we are wondering how come you dont just use skype or something that is free.

Do you at least have a wireless headset or are you wired to your 360.

I really never even heard of anyone playing a PC game and talking through xbox. Very strange, but i guess it works for you.

Umm interesting conversation going on :p

Anyways I just hit 30, looking for some friends to play with since I have absolutely none. I used to play Dominion only but mostly just play ARAB or ARAM nowadays. If anyone wants to premade SR I'm down but I'm not great at it so don't expect much. I'm up for learning it better but it's all just for fun :)

I wish they'd remove the ability to see your KDR from the game. WAY too many players are stuck on thinking that having a good KDR means you're doing good. Just had a Talon go 6-1-0. He literally did nothing but creep into a team fight, steal one kill, then run away, just letting everyone else die. He raged on everyone saying we were all feeding, yet couldn't understand we were specifically losing due to his unwillingness to participate in a team fight and possibly ruin his precious KDR. fucking moron.

Hehe, I had a game last night with Dusk and Duck. I kept getting kills. Duck was Ez, and wasnt getting any. He started getting mad every team fight cause I'd get the kills. There was like twice that the minions were pushed to our base, and we needed to clear them so I'd ult. A second later I'd see a Ez ult go flying by and hear Duck say "I hate you..."

I played DOTA, LoL and HoN for a long time now and I know the three has the same gameplay but to tell you the truth, I still acknowledge DOTA as the best among them. To be honest, I hated LoL graphics and the thing that the heroes can't deny (LOL). But despite it, I really enjoyed playing with EZREAL on LoL. Enjoyed killing newbies and dominating the whole map with that guy. LoL gave me enjoyment though. XD

I already graduated from LoL and HoN. Now I'm looking forward for DOTA 2. :)

Lmao @ insecure. When wasn't I calm? I'm just saying, I don't come in your room and tell you how to blow your boyfriend. I'll play legends the way I want. :applause:

So if you stacked Mundo with dps gear and runes it wouldn't be worth it? I didn't ask if he's ever been a DPS champ, I asked if he could be made into one or if it was a waste of time. Just thinking outside the box.

What's Dota 2? Like what spawend Lol?
