Little Big Planet - Gen. Discussion & Info

Back to the game: I really hope those jetpacks don't always have to be bound by string. I could think of a few cool flying levels I would make.

Also, does anyone know how this game controls? I know the analog sticks control both hands, so that means we move with tilt or dpad. Anyone know for sure?

Hmm, you could still do a flying level. Make them have to fly to one jetpack to the next, or they fall to their doom.

ah yes, good point. Wouldn't be as faced paced as I hoped, but it would work.

This game looks really good, so I did a little digging and it seems this is from the same developer that created Rag Doll Kung Fu.Which is a CS:S mod available through Steam.

Highlights:
Highlights:
- The D-pad selects facial expressions: grin, grimace and frown.
- The right stick waves its arms around together, but hold down L2 and R2 and the left and right sticks can move them independently.
- Tilting the Sixaxis controller moves its head.
- By holding down R1, the characters can be made to grab onto and manipulate any object in the world (including each other) with their stretchy, elastic arms.
- They generally strike a similar balance between co-operation and good-natured, slapstick squabbling to Four Swords, only in a much more free-form environment; and though there is a cap of four players per PS3, that number will be higher online

They clarified the controls, and the most surprising thing is that you'll be able to play with more than 4 people online!!! That is crazy! Hopefully we'll get 4 player co-op online (meaning 4 people on one PS3 can go online).

I got dibs on The Prince...unless of course there is no create-a-character mode, then I got the guy with the huge scarf.

Haven't seen a quote yet about create a character yet. But if you you notice, all of the dolls are the same save for coloring. So to me it would make sense to there would be such a mode since the who game is about user creations.

/has already pondering ideas for his.

more than 4 players online sounds the best to me. Customizable characters would be great, and would make sense, given the nature of the game.

And to think, a group of people whose only previous work is a CS mod, can do something better on the ps3 than huge corporation like Ubisoft and Sierra....

Indeed. I have a feeling this game won't sell too well though. I'll be buying it the day it's released. One of the few times I won't be a cheapass, so I can support these guys.

I don't know, I think this game could sell very well, its an easy, simple party type game, like Mario, that the mainstream will eat up. And everyone who you talk to lists this as one of their most anticipated games.. So I can see it selling 1 million copies easy, as long as they don't charge too much for it.

Well, Nintendo games have the nostalgia factor as an advantage. Mario is such a household name, that those games do reap the benefits because of that. LBP is garnering a lot of attention from the gaming community, but you have to keep in mind that the majority of gamers are actually just casuals. I have a feeling they will look at the 'kiddy' graphics, and be turned off. Or the fact that the game doesn't really have an objective. I've shown this game to a couple of my friends, and that is the first thing they ask me "what's the point of this game?". Although, I'm sure once I buy it, it will be one of our most played games.

Well I mean, if they use buzz words like "high replay value", "community", "group fun", "rewards", "ranking" then I can see it appealing to a wider crowd.

There are going to be set levels right off the bat so relying on user created stuff isn't going to be the only option. The devs are going to put in their own levels already set for the game too.

It is kind of a cross between Sims, the Mii, and uhh.. Platformers. That's how'd sell it.

I'll definitely get this game once it's out as well, i.e. not being a CAG for once (of course, if there's a coupon around, hell yeah!)

The possiblity of this game is endless! If the Mario character is there, heehee, i don't see why not a Zelda character :) Simply awesome! Oooo, customizing a Krato doll!

I'm sure Sony'll have some kind of rule agaist using certain characters or designs in their game to avoid legal action. Though I wonder if they could slap on something that would help avoid that (like the message at the start of South Park).

Personally I think it would be flattering to see your character on another companies title, as long as they weren't making money off of it.

A very little info on the creating character parts, so i'm just guessing... If they pack the dolls with accessories and allow you change the colors etc., virtually you can create any character you like! The legal action is pretty thin i would say. I mean, people creat Mii versions of various characters and i don't see legal actions yet. It would be cool to creat a Mii Kratos! But crap, Mii functions are sooo limited that it's freaking painful to creat something really cool. Ever saw the Mii Link? The rotated yellow eye brow used as the pointy ears? WTF? That don't fly in my book at all... Actually, alots of Miis looked bad, some good looking ones though.

Anyhow, i just want to read more on this game...

i see where the legal action might take place now... it's the on-line usage, i.e. if you created a level of Super Mario Bros (like article says), can you share it with friends etc...

For now, i'll settle this game even w/o the on-line features...

I don't see why creating characters like "Mario" or "Zelda" would be a big deal for this game. In Smackdown vs Raw, people do it all the time. It was never a big deal then. I see why it would be a big deal, but why now, and why only for this game?

The article says when users create a popular level like that in the Mario Bros and upload it to share with other users can raise red flags (also mentioned porns)... Personally, i don't a problem :)

I'm working on a sketch of Rag Doll Kratos and probably other characters... So by the times this game is out, heehee, youi know what i'm gonna do...

The aricle just mentioned something about Mario likeness levels and porns can raise red flags... My guess is that since this game allow you to create cartoony characters, chances are the finished characters will be more accurate in term of likeness of the licensed characters?

Anyhow, i'm working on the Rag Doll version of Kratos, Link, Zelda and Peach (sketch)... Heehee, by the time the game is out, my characters will be playable :)

Man, they better include accessories, else Link and Kratos will not have weapons (don't need bloody or violent versions, just something)

I just think of things that happened like in City of Heroes. They had comic book company complaining that the game dev allowed players to "Recreate" their characters in their game.

Way around it, would to have a review system or a "report" feature for everything.

This, a new Shadow of the Colossus/Ico universe game, and the next Kingdom Hearts game would eventually lead me to getting a PS3... after a significant price drop.

I hate on the PS3 all the time, but this game looks absolutely fantastic and is seriously making me want one.

you know, i never notice the huts/house in the background were actually cardboard cut outs until now... In one of the pics, you can clearly see the cross section of the cardboard, wow. Not that it's refreshly new or cool, but i admire the details...

Was hoping to learn more about the game at E3, but I guess there really isn't much to show (not a bad thing. I'm already convinced I'll be buying it).

So when is the release date of this?

You've GOT to check out a trailer/gameplay vid. Seriously looks like the most fun game released
in quite some time :D no hyperbole either!

that is an awesome shot that would be niec for a wallpaper

i like how they have torn fabric parts and fabric fuzz is sticking out lol

My 6 year old and I watched the CREATE trailer about 10 times last night and he laughed his ass off each time. This game is going to SOOOO kick ass; glad I got me a PS3.

From GAF:

On the latest 1Up Yours, Shane revealed that at TGS, they will be showing ENEMIES for the first time!

N'Gai Croal revealed another interesting mechanic...you can make the levels races, with ONLINE LEADER BOARDS posted for levels that you create! Not only that, you can assign a moving object (or maybe even an enemy) as the "finish line" in your level, so you could make a level where the end-goal is chasing something down! Amazing...

This will be awesome.

All this stuff revealed around the 1:44:15 mark after N'Gai talks about Everyday Shooter... 1:48:00 or so.

Nice find dallow. I'm kinda torn about the whole enemies thing. It's nice to have the option, but I hope not all people use it. A game with no enemies would force people to be more creative with level design, whereas with enemies, its like an easy way to create a challenge. Instead of having a cool puzzle using level design, a user could just stick an enemy there, if they wanted to be lazy and uncreative.

I just hope people don't overuse enemies.

The racing idea sound really cool though.

New video:
http://www.gamespot.com/video/938583/6174874/videoplayerpop?rgroup=e32007_videos

Highlights:
- Enemies (sort of)
- GDC level = ~5MB of space on PS3 HDD (most of it was loaded from BD info)
- 3 sizes of levels: Largest = ~100 meters x 100 meters
- 4 players on one console, possibly 8 online (not finalized yet)
- Some sort of customizable music feature (somewhat revealed in this video, but sounds like they want to keep this under wraps until TGS)
- Working on custom soundtracks and trophy integration.
- Pre-loaded with levels to play and unlock items
- Beta by the end of this year, full release by early summer 2008
Still a long wait. Guess it makes this xmas a little easier on my wallet (no LBP, MGS, or DMC).

I was surprised that we are possibly getting more than 4 players online. They said they tried it with 16 players, but it was too chaotic, so they will most likely stick with 8.

I doubt they will go more than 4...there just isnt enough room on the screen for 8 and things get pretty crowded with 4.

During demos at E3, they preferred to do them with 3 or less players.

Cheapy, you're forgetting that in the online mode, players have their own screens and arn't limited by screen space. Add in mix and match online, with multiple players on one console online with others it's certainly possible to do 8 players.

The key is that the levels will have to be designed with that in mind.

I'm curious about the enemies and if there'll be anything like combat, or at least head bopping in the game.

Does Sony own the LBP studio, if not, they should consider buying it and the IP if it's available.

Just because they are on their own console doesn't mean they get any more screen space.

From the looks of the videos, you can't move a long without everyone.

Thus meaning, that all characters have to be on screen.

I'm guessing it sticks with the 4 player max.

Yeah, what zewone said.
4 players are plenty...I think they game will be too chaotic with more.
During my playthrough, I was the 4th player to join and I had to promise the developer that I had my shit together and wouldn't screw things up.
