Little Big Planet - Gen. Discussion & Info

Maybe you've already seen it, but a friend just sent me this video for a LittleBigPlanet-style physics game/toy called Phun. I'll have to try it out later because it looks pretty cool. Why not ease the wait till fall a bit by playing around with this thing? I don't really know what features this has in common with LBP (I haven't seen water in any trailers, for example), but you can definitely start prototyping some crazy objects and levels.
Any updates since GDC is going on?
Game is confirmed to be coming September.
Info from a Sony interview at Eurogamer.

LittleBigPlanet is now fundamentally complete, in pre-alpha bug-testing and due for a closed beta trial in early summer for some final tweaking. After that, the real work begins – ours. That might seem glib, even a little like an advertising line (something similar will doubtless market the title) but it’s fundamental to any assessment of the game that hopes to play bridesmaid to the next level of user-generated content on home consoles.

Ok, so what is "AST Dew Tour - Panasonic Open"? I'm right near Baltimore, but I don't know what that is. Is that a golf tournament?

EDIT: yes, google. Sorry. FYI, it's at Camden Yards and it's a skateboard and bmx competition.

Maybe the PS guys like visiting cities with new baseball stadiums and young scrappy teams that are trying to recapture past glory despite being utterly garbage recently.

I think what you mean is, a team that is utterly garbage because their owner has a sweet deal that guarantees him massive wads of cash for relaxing in his lazy boy.

Media Molecule's Mark Healey has given our friends at PS3 Fanboy quite the news-splosion. In the latest PS Nation podcast, Healey let loose on LittleBigPlanet details, including:

 • There's "a whole heap" of levels that come with the game. "They are strung together in the form of a story," said Healey. "A very loose story, but incredibly funny at certain points."
 • You can make private levels and give keys to friends. In terms of riskier, user-made content, Healey said there is a post-grievance system involving sending screenshots to the powers that be. He declined further on what that might mean for the sure-fire controversial level, LittleBigPenis.
 • Sackboy plushies confirmed! Said SCEA PR Brandon, "It's on the way. Details will be emerging shortly."
 • PlayStation Eye support confirmed. "For example," said Heley, "you can wear a cardboard box and put a sticker of yourself there. And presto, you have a little creepy version of yourself walking around in the game. So yes, you can absolutely do that."

Sounds like it's gonna be a great I'm-gonna-suck-up-your-time-like-Disgaea type of game :D

You'd think they would make a stop in Los Angeles at least :/

First LittleBigPlanet tv commercial sighting today during Cubs-Sox game on WGN! Actually, a really nice PS3 commercial featuring a lot of footage of Gran Turismo 5, Little Big Planet, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Sony's really on track with this new marketing - 95% of the commercial was in-game footage. Looked great and can't wait until September!

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/little-big-planet-beta-growing-trophies-teased/

Among the number of topics discussed, Smith spoke out in support of the game's beta testing, something he noted as being "in progress," and -- contrary to earlier reports -- that "it should gradually grow to include more people." In addition, with the recent addition of Trophies, he stated that the team is "having a lot of fun working out what trophies most fit" Little Big Planet, teasing that one will involve "making your sackperson be thrown at some huge velocity." Check out the full interview for more words strung together about Little Big Planet. We'll be quietly twitching in the corner.

LittleBigPlanet might actually be the most fun game to farm Trophies in. And I hate the idea of farming trophies.

But, just imagine it as a physics puzzle trying to come up with levels that'll get your those kind of trophies.

Damn, the boss battle looked awesome... I hope Sony goes ahead and markets LBP the way it should be... when every kid goes to BK, or McD, they should get a sack boy toy with every happy meal, or kids meal. Sack Boy(s) would be our Miis in home... oh well... seeing the Boss battle makes me want this game even more now.

If those little monstrosities ever get that sort of exposure I will probably have to claw my eyes out to avoid seeing them.

Just my two cents. Cheers, to all those anticipating this game. :)

WTF????

They're coming to Pittsburgh too?

(lol?)

You might have to claw, Sony needs a mascot....

We'll see. I'm just not convinced at all that this game has multi-million sales in it's future.

I could see Sock Boy as being a new cultural icon. The thing is cute but at the same time something that even I would have on my desk (approaching 34 years old). When they, and the inevitably will, come out with a Sock Boy plushy (hopefully made out of burlap) I will be getting multiples of them.

C'mon Sony, give us what we want.

They should give out little dolls in team jerseys at sports events.

LBP should be on every kids meal, and should have a TV show... and a PSP bundle.. the thing that Nintendo does well is appeal to children. Where's my LBP cart racing, LBP adventure (with the same physics engine in 3D), although, the fact that I thought it means that Sony won't do none of it.

That Sony E3 Presentation was insane. I still can't believe we'll be able to create levels like that.

Don't forget Cincinnati. Ken Griffey Jr.'s corpse still haunts that field from what I hear.....I keed I keed.

Back OT, can't wait for this game. I might actually pick it up for (gasp) full price......

And what of it?
Which is why I don't think we'll see it on Happy Meals.
I saw tons of Pokemon toys before the game or show made their debut.

But yeah, I don't think this will be Pokemon.

The game will come with a Sackboy plush though, so cute!

Isn't that kind of backwards though? A game doesn't have to sell millions before you make it a house hold name, you advertise it like crazy and see if it cathes on. I bet if Sony made a animated movie out of it... it'd do well with children. The thing is... you have make it big, not wait and see if its going to get big.
The game is good enough to where people are going to play it, it will be a system selling game, hell even I cant' wait to recreate one of the Mega Man 2 stages and apply some Mega man music.

Truth is, Sony isn't going to do anything, they'll enjoy some revenue w/ the franchise, but they aren't going to really do anything to make LBP big... and xbox fans aren't going to jump to play this game. Doesn't mean that they shouldn't.

It certainly didn't work for Viva Pinata.
Did it? I don't actually know.

the game wasn't that good... LBP is good for children and adults. damn that was a good example though.

Kids would've bought it even if it was the worst game on the planet. They don't know the difference.

apparently with that game... they did notice it wasn't that great.

I remember during one of the Cagcasts wombat was saying that it was maybe too hard for children.
