Lois Lane Smallville Topic (Season 8 DVD/Blu 8/25, Season 9 Premiere Friday 9/25)

I don't know - it could be a good thing. If villains like Doomsday show up, it could spice things up a bit.
I really want to see some more ass-kicking and less teeny bopper drama.

Clark doesn't kill though, Doomsday showing up just means an entire season of going back and fourth . The changes in cast wouldn't have been so bad spread out by a few seasons, but wow, compare season one's cast to the cast of season 8 and this is just turning into a big joke. Now would be a good time to throw in tons of obscure DC heroes.

Next season is likely the last, so its their last chance to throw in all the random people they can get the rights to. There isn't much he can do before he needs to become Superman anyway. The producers are changing next season as well so who knows what the hell direction it could go.

Considering how they handled the defeat of Bizarro, or more, how Clark didn't even defeat Bizarro by his own power, I fail to see how he would kill Doomsday. Well, unless WB's going to assemble the Justice League to "aid" Clark, which would also be absurd. WB, surprise me, pull a Joss, and kill off Clark. That's the only way I'm watching this upcoming final season.

Holy crap that was the worst season finale the writers have managed in the entire run of the show, I mean the saying was hey at least you could always count on the season finale and season openers being good, guess that was finally broken.

It was meh. Everyone is missing/trapped/jailed/etc. I just hope next season is filled with everything we've always wanted to see no matter how campy it gets. Long time fans deserve it.

Clark working at the Daily Planet teaser was the best thing next to the Clark and Lois teaser.

Bringing in Doomsday is a dumb f'n choice...Clark isnt far enough along his path to deal with something of that magnitude....
It was meh. Everyone is missing/trapped/jailed/etc.
Isn't that what usually happens in the season finale? Hopefully next season is the last. And hopefully it will be good enough for me to watch EVERY episode of the season instead of watching the first 3 then forgetting to watch the next 17 episodes only to catch the last ones of the season and wonder what the fuck happened?

Actually you're right, this does have the same finale recipe. Clark in a bad situation and everyone else waiting for his reaction. Chloe going to jail is the same as Lionel that one finale, Lana's goodbye probably happened already in another finale. I guess the difference is Brainiac died instead of that being resolved in the premiere.

I'll wager on "something happening to Lex" and he leaves to find himself next season. The Fortress better be back too because I don't want a whole season of Fortress rebuilding when there was the whole crystal finding season already.

Looking for a download...as CW decided not to come in last night.

Doesn't sound like I missed much though. Season 7 overall was very disappointing for me. And I have a feeling 8 will be worse...since we aren't getting everyone back. (Or, last I read.)
I thought it was excellent, and the ending was fantastic.
Ending was putrid , here are just some of the problems I had with the entire set up
We know both Clark and Lex survive, hell we know the fortress will be back since crystals seem to be all over the place. Lana being the huge love interest for some 7 seasons gets a video send off?! Brianiac babbling about Clark killing in cold blood, that just reaked of lazy writing since Brianiac has done plenty to deserve to be killed by Clark, I just was bored with the entire episode which is funny since I liked the episodes leading up to it.

And back on Lex, just how many damn times are we going to see ye old amnesia set up?!
Bringing in Doomsday is a dumb f'n choice...Clark isnt far enough along his path to deal with something of that magnitude....
If the new producers want to make a statement, they'll end Season 8 after Doomsday kills Clark. I know it won't happen as Doomsday will be another throw-away villain, and not even the main villain of Season 8, but it would be interesting.

Considering how Smallville works, Clark will probably just toss two nine-volt batteries at Doomsday and he'll explode.

In regards to Lex,
considering Rosenbaum, a favorite of mine, is leaving Smallvile, I suppose it would make sense if he did indeed die in the collapsing Fortress.

I don't know if that's a spoiler, but I thought I'd play it safe. :)

Won't happen. The description for next season always says "While Lex is away... so and so is running Luthor Corp". Thats another thing that bugs me. Why hasn't it gone to Lex Corp like it should be?

As far as Doomsday goes, we all know its just going to be a Smallville downsized version. He has a human form so expect him to just be a meteor freak. He'll probably end up buried alive or frozen at the Fortress since Clark won't be able to stop him. If you look at the other villains they've used, some are used well (Zod, Brainiac, Bizarro) and some are just throwaways ("Mikail" Mxyplyzyk). I really thought these last few episodes of the season would introduce Darkseid. One of the last episodes was entitled Apocalypse and I was really hoping it meant Apokolips.

What I really think the final season needs to do is reintroduce Perry White. Let him persuade Clark into taking the job. Wrap up the whole thing by letting Clark finally fly and he goes on his Jor-El finding himself mission. I'll bet more than anything that he will fly since the old producers are leaving.

Wow, this season of Smallville was truly awful. It seemed like the writers never had any real idea where they wanted the story to go, and just kept throwing things in there hoping something would stick. I lost count of the times a key event was set up, only to have it be dealt with in a one-minute throw-away fight. It's no wonder Rosenbaum left the show after this train wreck of a season.

Oh, and why didn't Clark just use his super-speed to get the device away from Lex? Stupid.

He can't touch it. He had his hand on his stomach indicating he's allergic to it during the whole scene. That my friends is called acting.

So current news is that while Allison Mack has indeed signed, Laura Vandervoort has yet to sign. And if she doesn't then Kara will just remain in the Phantom Zone until shes available. Thats some funny shit. Same with Kristen Kreuk, she'll be busy ruining Street Fighter so she's gone until available.

I'm perhaps 4-5 episodes behind but I have to agree on this season being terrible. Much like "Lost" I've been drained of my enthusisasm for watching both shows due to the shitty directions they have gone in.

You know he couldn't touch the device itself, nothing was stopping him from just burning Lex's hand or blowing the device down some crevice in the fortress. For a guy that has super speed he sure is slow sometimes. Even breaking a crystal from the fortress and throwing it at Lex's head would have worked, just enough to knock him out.
This is a show that has clearly lost sight of its original premise.
Well having Lex and Clark remain friends for 7 seasons straight wouldn't have worked out, had to end sometime

And wasn't the device supposed to give Lex control of Clark? It seemed to just immobilize him instead, even after all of this "Lex can take control of you!" garbage they've been talking about for the last few episodes. Oh, and then there's the added side effect of bringing the whole fortress down on the person who uses it. Pff.

Absolutely horrible, horrible finale.

The only good thing about it was Lana said goodbye. That character is easily the worst aspect of the show and I really hope her "limited" role next season is just some random cameo to say "Hey, I'm not dead."

The big Lex / Clark confrontation was a tremendous dissapointment.

First, Im a HUGE Smallville fan...Second, this had to EASILY hands down, without a doubt, be the WORST season finale ever.

Whats the point of having Lex and Clark like that at the end when they arent gonna be around to finish that scenario off right next season with Rosenbaum gone?

That should have been LAST seasons finale and I would have held judgement to have them 2 battle it out this season instead.

Overall all it does get really old to have the bad guys kick the sh*t outta Clark for so long and he defeats them with a sneeze or something quick an easy...If I were James Marsters and I knew thats how they were gonna off my character, Id have told them to bugger off.

I thought it was confirmed that while Lex isn't going to be a regular next season, he is still going to appear in about 1/4 of the episodes. Basically the same thing Duchovny did with the final season of the X-Files.

It was, so i'm guessing he is on board for season 8 ep 1, then splits until he feels like coming back here and there. It was never really said how many times he would show up, for all we know it could just be two episodes or something.

The latest from Kryptonsite.com says that he may not even appear in the first episode and will just be simply missing. Previous reports have stated he doesn't want to shave his head anymore because it limits his roles and has trouble landing other gigs. His roots are all comedic so I wonder where he'll go from here. He's gone for sure as he already put out a press release that he's leaving the show.

Lana was the one who was confirmed to be in only part of season 8. Chloe wasn't signed on until just recently. Kara is the only one who's status is currently unknown. And if she's not in she'll just stay in the Phantom Zone.
Well having Lex and Clark remain friends for 7 seasons straight wouldn't have worked out, had to end sometime
In my opinion, the Lex/Clark dynamic isn't central to the premise.

You're darn right it wouldn't have. Michael Rosenbaum did an excellent job as Lex. I'm glad they've established him as evil, and have taken their time in doing so. I actually think him leaving will do the storyline of the series a favor too. Lex as a character has spent way too much time in Smallville and needs to move on.

My problem is that Smallville is supposed to be about Clark Kent before he becomes Superman. In this series, he's done everything his future self will be doing except put on the costume. He's fought all his future villains already too. On top of that, everybody has superpowers! Clark was supposed to be special, but with everybody in the supporting cast having powers at one point in the series that just isn't happening.

This show needs to go back to basics, and focus on Clark before he was Superman. He's not Superman yet.

Also I have to ask: Has Clark actually started to learn how to write as a journalist yet? That's what I mean when I say the series has lost sight of its premise.

In regards to Vandervoort, and her involvement in Season 8:

Laura Vandervoort (Kara) will not be returning as a series regular in Season 8. This confirms speculation that surfaced when she was not on the cast list in the CW's press release.

When we last saw Kara, in "Arctic," she was somewhere within the Phantom Zone.

"They announced the cast... and I'm not a part of it," Vandervoort told TV Guide's Matt Mitovich. "We were all surprised when they chose not to bring me back as a regular, but I'm sure I'll be back for one or two [episodes]!"

Vandervoort seems to have a good attitude about the whole thing. "The show is about Clark Kent, and I was honored to be a part of it. I mean, my character became more than it was supposed to be. She ended up sticking around the entire season," she told Ausiello.

This, and how they chose to handle Doomsday, are just a couple examples of how I think Season 8 is not heading in a good direction.

Well maybe with everyone gone they could make this season about a Clark with no distractions. Then his story won't lag each episode and progress faster.

Just having doomsday in the show is stupid enough. I thought this was supposed to be about his earlier years before he became superman.

Haha.

Update news:

"
Smallville

During Comic-Con 2008, it was announced that Geoff Johns would be writing an episode of Smallville entitled Legion to introduce the Legion of Superheroes "
That should be cool. Also to answer the person's question about Kara. Well yes the show is about the young superman, but it is interesting to throw in a few superhero's every now and then. I think they are doing a very good job with the show. Yea there are issues, but nevertheless amazing show.

I could see that as an episode where Kara returns but somehow she came from the future. She comes with the Legion to help dispose of whatever bad guy decided to travel to the past to kill Clark. I wonder if they'll bring in Spike to play Brainiac 5 to add some confusion.

This should be interesting though. They have a huge roster to choose from so I hope its not just an ambiguous group of leather clad teenagers.

I just started watching this show, done with Season 1 & 2

like that it's more serious than the movies, yet maintains some of the cheeseyness

Any word on the earlier seasons being released on Blu-Ray? And when does Season 8 start? Early September?

EDIT: TV.com says September 18th, 9 days after the DVD comes out.

By season 3's many cave episodes you'll be ready to call it a day.

The stupid part is how they're handling Doomsday. He's an Emo bartender. I don't particularly like the character, but Emo bartender seems an odd choice.

I have little hope for the final seasons of Scrubs and Smallville. Less for Smallville, though, as there have just been too many off-season changes. :whistle2:(

Cool...hopefully I won't miss any episodes this time around. I missed the last 5 or 6 episodes of S7...luckily a friend here at work just recapped all that for me so I'm ready!
Man just gotta make it through one more season
I started telling myself that during the Witch arc. :cold:

This season looks good, i just hope they don't drag the good doomsday storyline too far, make him turn into doomsday quicker. Anyways, enjoy the show tonight everyone. :)
