Lost Planet - Discussion and Hype Thread - UPDATE: Map Pack #3 Free Aug. 16th.

The reviews I've read from people who have played it the one glaring problem is the story. They say the plot is shit and the voice acting is AWFUL. This is from people living in Japan who've played it already.
Also for the online anyone who wants to play Japanese shouldn't have a problem since the person mentioned 50 people being around at all hours of the day.
"ALL NIGHT" for the 50 players comment.

He says the single player gameplay is quite gppd and the big misstep is what is noted above.

How the eff do you beat/get past the missile turrets in the Snow Pirates SP demo?

I feel so lame I need a walkthrough for a demo, LOL...

EDIT- Never mind, I figured it out.

Is it ture that this game is going to have absolutely no load screens, there is going to be no sub enimies (or smaller enimies), its just going to be bosses, and that there is no health on the game its all about keeping warm?:cold:

hmm, maybe play the demo.
its out around the 11th correct?
Ships the 12th, in stores the 13th, which is weird cause its a Saturday.

Rei - Do you believe this is GS only on 12th, or would you imagine BB and all
Chain stores will sell on this date? Any chance of street date breaking?

I'd assume everyone is getting it early. As is the case with almost all street dated games. Also while I'm sure there'll be at least 1 store that will let a copy out early, I wouldn't count on getting it before the 12th. Breaking a street date is something that publishers take quite seriously.

Actually it's more. If I remember correctly, the GoW CE had the artbook, the tin and the making of CD.

This one has:

* One Exclusive bonus Multiplayer Map only found in the Collector's Edition of Lost Planet.
* Exclusive cover art and steel book metal case
* Exclusive Art Book
- Concept sketches from beginning to final
- Character renders, VS renders, enemy art
* Bonus CD that includes
- Soundtrack
- Fan kit assets
- HD trailers of theatrical ad and Tokyo Game Show ad
- 3 webisodes
- Wallpapers
- AIM icons, Board icons, Signature banners
- Digital art, including: screens, character art, and environment shots

Ba, my sister pre-ordered it on Amazon for me for Christmas. Figure Ill be getting mine around the 20th regardless of when it comes out.

I knew it!

after seeing that Havok was used to make the game I can 100% be sure now that Lost Planet uses a modified Dead Rising game engine. Just proud I noticed it ever since DR's release :)

Thanks for the pics. Like the look of it, looks like the same sort of packaging used for RE4 PE and FFXII CE.

Rei - Has your store received those preorder bonus figures?

Rei - Has your store received those preorder bonus figures?
Not since the last time I worked, Sunday. I'm going in tomorrow, but I'd assume we'll get them on the 6th along with the game.

I preordered the CE Lost Planet at GS, and I'm wondering when I could come in and pick up the figure. With the game on launch or can I come before (I already put $70 down on the preorder).

Completely up to the manager. Some will let you have it early, and others will make you wait.
Lost planet have split-screen multiplayer? If so, how many per console?
For questions like this, for some reason there are never answers to be found up until the game is released and someone can confirm for you. I was so bumed out that Rainbow Six Vegas didn't allow split screen multiplayer over live like GRAW did.

well the japanese version is out...

I can't wait to play this game. My buddies and I have been playing the demo over and over again. The grappling hook takes me back to Bionic Commando somehow. Like I said, I just can't wait to play the full version.

How does Gamestop's system work? I paid in full (first time $70, second time ~$6) and the guy took my $70 receipt. I asked why and he said that the receipts really don't matter, and that I'm "in the system, paid in full".

So...wth does that mean? lol

omg are you serious? i didn't know that....damn...fuck Vegas then, god dammit :(

yes! the metal tin case is like FFXII not GoW! YES!! I have to go buy this now.

I hated the fact that when you opened the tin up for GoW CE, everything was seperate. The game was held in some cheap cardboard with a plastic case glued to it....so lame.

I love the FFXII style tin cases where u open it up, and the tin is the ACTUAL case and the contents fit into it nicely. wooo woo

It's weird how IGN loves the graphics, gameplay, and sound but they'll still rate any game 8.2 or something like that. I like EGM's 3 reviewer system because it accounts for personal tastes and preferences.

again, nobody should ever take IGN as credible... they've F'd up alot of stuff and they suck... it's a statistical fact that even intergalactic beings have signed an agreement on.

What do you consider a reputable review source?

I was expecting a rating between 8.5 and 9.0 due to what I've read about single player. You have to remember that an 8.5 still is pretty good, while games that are typically 9+ have some revolutionary things in them (or a lot of fanbase). An 8.5 is great/impressive in terms of the way IGN rates. It didn't get higher because it wasn't perfect/phenomenal.

IGN rated the original Star Wars: Battlefront an 8.5 and that game was a blast. I spent countless hours on it (I know many others did also) and that game had less modes!

I knew it!

The multiplayer game is a strictly online affair, so you won't be able to play a deathmatch against your friends huddled around a single screen and there isn't any sort of cooperative mode.

No split-screen/system link deathmatch option just like R6 Vegas. Another game that I will skip out on. I think I'm starting to see why I never get bored of GoW off and online.

I was really looking forward to the game until I heard that. I'll still probably get it, but at a greatly reduced price later on.

Why are some games skimping on split-screen/system link multiplayer?

I don't think the IGN review is that far off. The graphics, sound, etc can be nice and all, but the things they were talking about with control I noticed even in the demo. The reticule does move too slowly, and it's difficult to turn quickly. Your character also does get cought up on explosions and such and takes too long to get up, that animation is frustrating.

It's also dissapointing to see the grappling hook wasnt' used better, to hang or grab objects and such.

Still gonna be a great game and still gonna get it, just not a perfect game.

actually, you can choose how fast the reticle moves in the control options... no problems there...

also, you can hang from your anchor... just slide off an edge (not usable in demo) and you'll hang.

Yeah the reviews have kind of put me off, I'm not sure if I'm going to grab this game right now. What pisses me more off is the lack of splitt screen system link games, whatever happended? More games need that option, and I was urked when even F.E.A.R didn't have the option because the multiplayer is quite good.

I've been having a stiffy for this game since the E3 demo came out. But I'm still probably not going to get it... $60 is rediculous.
link to the first page next time... http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/753/753402p1.html

bad review IMHO... like most big reviews, the minor annoyances are a bit blown out of proportion. whatever... it's IGN.
just because you have bias in favor of the game (and Capcom) doesn't necessarily make it a bad review ;)

maybe we should wait until the game comes out first to see if it's a bad review :)

I loved the demo, and the online multiplayer seems like a blast... but no split screen/system link is a BIG turnoff for me... bummer.

Because it's very difficult to implement. Microsoft provides a great API for the most part when it comes to making a game for Xbox 360. However, one of the few things that's left very difficult to implement is implementing the convoluted guest system.

I know of developers that tried to implement it and eventually removed it because it was holding up the certification process and was just taking too long to get right.
