gg bigat couldn't get any offense going
GG. The Cowboys were clearly overwhelmed by a Montana-esque performance by Colt (6-10, 49 yards).

Barring a shocking loss to the CPU by the Saints, that leaves me at the #2 seed. Bye week baby!
I'd rather play the Chargers if I were you.

And damn, I wish you'd do more of those, that was great.
Thanks, I might do them for the AFC, its only one other game. I could do NFC ones, but they'd probably be pretty condensed.
You'll have to wait a couple days for them though :D

There are so many ridiculous exploits in this game...I don't think I'm gonna play on Live anymore against random people. There's something up with blitzing...I literally couldn't even get an HB Toss play off because I got sacked too fast. And some guy put Felix Jones in as his fullback and he got open on every play somehow, it didn't matter what kind of coverage I had. He ended up with like 13 catches for 350 yards and the receiver with the next most catches was 1. Online is really frustrating...blitzing especially, I just don't understand it. Theoretically if you're blitzing every play there's bound to be someone open but it just didn't happen. Oh well...

And on a league-related note, I needed 8 TDs to achieve my goal of a 1:1 TD/interception ratio and I actually got my 8 TDs. Then I got greedy and tried to get a 9th one and that's when I threw my first interception...and now I've ended up with 38 TD's and 39 Ints on the season :( Freaking 39 picks on the season, that is ridiculous...I can't be doing that in the playoffs.

OK, so the NFC is super tight - AZU, might need your help here...

Rams lose week 17 making them 8-8, Minnesota is 8-7 and Detroit is 7-8.
Minnesota and Detroit are H2H week 17.
If Detroit wins, who gets the last wild card spot? Is it alphabetical?
The CPU Rams are pretty much a lock for the playoffs, sadly. Which means whoever losses the Vikings/Lions game is out of the playoffs. If the Vikes lose, they will be 8-8, Lions will be 8-8, Rams will be the same, Rams win the tie breaker over the Vikes, so Lions are the #5, Rams #6. If the Lions lose, they will be 7-9 and completely out. Vikes will have the #5 with a 9-7 record, and the Rams will snag the last one going 8-8.
That should sum it all up. So Lions/Vikes game is must-win for both teams.
That should sum it all up. So Lions/Vikes game is must-win for both teams.
Didn't see your earlier synopsis, sorry but thanks.

I thought for sure it was a alphabetical pick rather than tie-breaker. I could have swore I missed the playoffs two seasons ago to the Pack. I beat them twice during that season and we tied W-L, but the Pack advanced...

Vikes/CharCoal/GetAWhale - when are you available to get this game in? I am available after 6pmEST. Let me know via PM...

I think that's what he is referring to when he says tie breaker. His writeup of the scenarios is correct though.
I think that's what he is referring to when he says tie breaker. His writeup of the scenarios is correct though.
Yup! Sorry for the vagueness. You (Lions) win the tiebreaker over the Rams and Vikings due to alphabetical order, so a W will put you ahead of both teams.

I am pretty sure I beat you one of those times, but either way, I ended up with a better record than you. I went 9-6-1 and you finished 9-7. It was about as close as it could get. Besides, if it was alphabetical (which it is in the case of ties) you would have advanced, not me.
What do you guys think about this:

http://kotaku.com/5552878/madden-11-scouts-your-online-games-+-and-sells-others-the-report

I know for me, I have about 10-15 offensive plays that I like to rely on mostly, and probably fewer base defenses. Knowing opponents had the option to do this would really force me to diversify my playcalling. I wonder if Online Franchises will have an option to disable these for the league.
I love the idea, but not sure about the execution. I don't like the idea of "paying" for the scouting reports but the reports themselves could make things interesting especially when you haven't played the person yet or maybe can't figure out why you're getting beat by someone.

The thing is though, in this league I already have mini scouting reports on mostly everyone already in my head. (And I doubt I'm not the only one) I don't really need to pay to know that the Ravens love their Ray Rice, and how they mostly like to use him. Same goes for any other team I've played at least once, to some degree at least. Because we all know what works for us and we naturally tend to do that more often, but if someone else knew exactly what worked for us then we'd just be forced to do something else. Not a huge advantage I would think, like some of the comments in there are saying.

Like the Pats for example, I can't run a WR screen against him for the life of me. It's not even something I do that often, but for whatever reason he sniffs it out easily because he knows I like it. I don't think he needs a report for that, he just knows it now. And because of that I tend to not do them versus him as much, or I'll set up in the same formation so he expects it and instead throw it deep. (That did happen and worked btw, :))

Yeah, you definitely have to adjust. It's tough for me since my offensive gameplan by its very nature runs through two players (I don't mind saying that before the playoffs, haha, not like it's a huge secret). Just ask BigAT how it worked out for me when I lost Vince Young for our game.

I dunno I got a lot of scouting done by just looking at folks stats. I would scope the leading receiver to highlight him on obvious passing downs and i would see who had the most sacks so I knew where the pressure was coming from

What the playoff matchups are looking like:

NFC
1. Saints (bye)
2. Giants (bye)
3. Niners vs 6. CPU Rams
4. Bears vs 5. Vikings or Lions

AFC
1. Titans (bye)
2. Jets (bye)
3. Ravens vs 6. Bengals
4. Chargers vs 5. Patriots

Feel free to go ahead and start setting these up for late tonight or in the following days.

edit: also just a quick guesstimate it looks like the Fins should grab the highest human pick at 11th. Cowboys shouldn't be too far behind in the early teen range. If the Eagles lose this last week than they will be right behind them.

Hopefully we can find a few people to step in and take some of those other teams as well. There are a few contenders in the AFC in particular which are unrepresented (as much as I enjoyed trouncing the AFC South all year).

Ubernes handled the AFC, I figured I would take a shot at previewing my conference.

NFC Playoff Preview
Not Locked Up Edition

1. New Orleans Saints 16-0 (bye)

Just win baby. That's all the Saints did this year, completing a perfect regular season and going 16-0. It's hard to do much better than that. Breesus put up ridiculous numbers on offense, finishing with the second best QB rating in the NFL (1. V. Young - TEN) while totaling 5019 yards and 50 touchdowns. The defense was impressive as well, finishing #2 in the NFC in points allowed per game and somehow recording 88 (!?) sacks. Food for thought though: the Saints had only four games against a human opponent this season.

2. New York Giants, 15-1 (bye)

The Giants have been a team dealing with adversity this year. It started out early on, with starting QB Eli Manning going down in the first game of the season for eight weeks. Colt Brennan managed to step in and serve as an efficient [CLICHE]game manager[/CLICHE] and saw the Giants through this part of the schedule. A schedule that included nine games against human opponents. The Giants managed with a steady rushing attack and a defense that was #1 in the entire NFL in points allowed at only 8.50/game.

3. San Francisco, 13-3

It's hard to decide what to make of this 49ers team. On the one hand, you have the fact that San Fransisco was undefeated in games the owner was able to play in, with all three losses occurring during a RROD issue. On the other hand, the team benefited from being in a division filled with CPU opponents. We also have no clue how the team would have done in its two toughest games this season (Giants, Saints). The 49ers enter the playoffs as an a slightly unknown quantity, but they will certainly get the chance to show they are for real. Interesting fact: None of the top three seeds in the NFC faced each other in a human/human game this year.

4. Chicago, 12-4

The Bears are a battle tested team. Ten human games this year, possibly 11 if Matt played one. Their four losses were nothing to be ashamed of, as they came to teams with a combined record of 55-9, including a 3 point loss late in the season to the #2 seed Giants. Although there Wild Card Round opponent is still up in the air, one thing is for sure: the Bears will be familiar with them. The Bears have obviously already faced their division rivals (Lions/Vikings) twice this year, going 4-0 in those games.

5. Minnesota Vikings, 9-7 OR Detroit Lions, 8-8

This NFC North team struggled throughout the season, but did just enough to sneak their way into the playoffs. It came down to the last game of the season, but this team managed to pull it out in what was a close game (probably) and won their way into the playoffs. Not only that, they got to send their hated division rivals packing and off towards the golf course. They'll get the chance to do it again, facing off against Bears in the first round of the playoffs.

6. St. Louis Rams, 8-8 (CPU)

A CPU team? In the playoffs?! Well, it happened. A result that was largely due to being in a division that was, at times, filled entirely with CPU teams, the RoboRams somehow managed to simulate enough wins to squeak into the playoffs. The big win came in week 16, when the Rams managed to pull off a win against the human Chargers. Skynet lives.

Damn straight. :D

Someone should totally do an end of the year League Leaders and maybe hand out some awards? Maybe we should all make nominations from our own team and then vote on them? I'd gladly organize this and keep track of the nominations if you guys are interested.
The Giants managed with a steady rushing attack and a defense that was #1 in the entire NFL in points allowed at only 8.50/game.
You managed to sneak past me in that category in the last week, through Week 16 I'd actually allowed 2 fewer points. Even more impressive was you topped me when I was playing the CPU and you were playing the Cowboys - the team that not only handed you your only loss on the season but also scored the most points against me (21). A great defensive season for your G-Men.

Following on from my previous post, assuming you guys are cool with me doing awards we can vote on, here are the categories I'm thinking of:

MVP
Best QB
Best RB
Best WR
Offensive ROY
Defensive MVP (we can break this out into separate categories if we want, but I don't think it's necessary)
Defensive ROY

Any others?

I like it. It might be a good idea to start compiling the candidates now. I forgot if this happened in the game too, but one of the scripts I used for stat tracking through the website got all weird on me when we advanced to the playoffs.

People should feel free to nominate players from their own team too, to save BV some trouble. I don't think I have any candidates for anything besides Defensive MVP (Cromartie, 7 INTs, 6 of them for TDs) and maybe Defensive ROY (Virges, my Rhodes replacement, don't know his stats off the top of my head).

That's what I had in mind.

Everyone post your nominations as well as their stats, I'll compile a list as well as doing a write-up, and then we can vote on it.

Please only nominate 1 per category, and it doesn't have to be from your own team (though I imagine most will be). Obviously you can submit the same player in more than 1 category.

Feel free to start making nominations now for all the categories.

Oh, and I don't know how we'd go about quantifying coach/owner of the year (other than record), but if people want to we certainly can.

Thanks for that nice write-up BigAT, just to throw it out there I played against Matt twice but neither of my games against the Vikings were actually against Charcoal himself (one was against the CPU and one was simulated) so it still ended up being 10 human opponents. I might end up playing the actual Vikings in the first round playoffs so I have no idea what to expect...kinda nervous about that : /

Is there any way to look at individual players' stats online? Or do you have to do that through the franchise menu on your actual Xbox 360? I'm down for throwing some nominations out there, but I'd have to go back to my 360 and go through all the stats first. The only nomination I suppose I'll throw out there on my own team is Brian Urlacher for Defensive MVP, no one else on my team deserves a nomination for any other category. I don't expect Urlacher to win but I think he's at least worthy of a nomination. Last I checked, he was 3rd in the league in tackles (for human teams), tied for most interceptions with 9, and like 20 TFL although I guess those don't show up in the "individual leaders" section in the franchise. And I think it should count for something that he was the player I controlled on every defensive possession : - ) So every stat he accumulated was my own doing. Just wanted to make some kind of case as to why I'm nominating him...

And just curious, how do you see QB ratings for each QB in the league? You mentioned something about Vince Young having the highest QB rating and Drew Brees being second, but in the Franchise menu on Xbox live, I only see stuff like TDs, Interceptions, Yards, etc...unless you actually calculated it yourself. I'm just curious as to how bad my QB's rating is since I threw 39 picks on the season. I used a rookie QB (Jack English) that I got in the draft who was rated 1 point lower than Jay Cutler, but I can't complain cause he had the same throwing power and even higher of an accuracy. If I used Jay Cutler I probably would have had around 50 picks.

Someone from another franchise I'm in created a FireFox script that compiles player stats from the franchise website, it's fantastic. It's buried somewhere in this thread, but I'll try to find a link to it.

Yeah I know about that one, but I was talking more in terms of looking at who the league leaders are in different categories (like on the 360 where you can sort the leaders on whatever stat you want to look at, like tackles, interceptions, touchdowns, etc.) It would be really time-consuming to look at stats individually of several players on several different teams. I guess there isn't a way to do that though, I'll just look on my 360 later on for my formal nominations.

And BigAT, it's cool you don't have to go out of your way to find that, I was just curious if that stat was readily available to everyone.

Nah, you'll have to look on the 360 for that. Even those stats aren't very robust, but they're better than on the website. I'm really hoping they provide the full range of stats in Online Franchise for Madden 11.

Here's my noms

MVP: Drew Brees, QB, Saints
5019 yards (1st), 50 TDs (1st), led the Saints to an undefeated season

Best QB:
See above

Best RB: Chris Johnson probably wins this, but I'm nominating Rice as a runner-up candidate.
Ray Rice, Ravens
1281 yards (3rd), 16 TDs (4th)
I was looking for a RB with a tougher schedule but everyone at the top had pretty soft ones.

Best WR: Bellows will probably win this, but I'm nominating...
M. Colston, Saints
1302 yards (2nd), 11 TDs (7th)

Offensive ROY:
See above

Defensive MVP:
Antonio Cromartie, CB, Jets
7 INTS (top is 9), 2 FF, 6 DEF TDs (1st, double 2nd), one of the tougher schedules in the league

Defensive ROY: Davon Morisson, FS, Niners
6 INTs (1st for Rookies), 1 FF, 7 DEFL

De'Adrian Virges, FS, Jets
4 INTs, 1 FF, 12 DEFL

Coach/Owner of the Year:
BigAT4, New York Giants
Played nine human opponents, going 8-1. League leading defense.

I'll agree with Owner of the Year here, but would give Chicago a runner up nod. Probably played in the toughest division and I think a couple of those losses came on sims.

Of all the losses I've suffered, I am the most embarrassed by this one. I lost to someone who is so fundamentally lacking, it's awful. FB runs at the end to run out the clock? Really? Squib kicks? My one fumble at the start was the difference, but it shouldn't have even been that close. It seems like you ran the same defense the whole game. I guess I suck for not taking advantage of it, I was running plays that I typically run against a competent opponent. Enjoy being eliminated from the playoffs. This victory is not one for you to be proud of. This ends my bitter rant. Wish I could have been one of the teams that only had to play a human opponent 3 or 4 times! What a life.

I just advanced us. Congrats to the Lions for locking up that last undecided spot in the playoffs. Everyone should know who they are playing this week, so please set those up asap.

-NFC-
Niners vs CPU Rams
Bears vs Lions

-AFC-
Chargers vs Pats
Ravens vs Bengals

Good luck all.

edit: and the Chargers just told me to boot him. Not sure if it's just for the playoffs or for good, but he just finished school and will be MIA for the next 4-5 days. I guess the Pats got their first round bye afterall.

edit2: if we continue this league another season, it may be best for everyone to move to the AFC or NFC East or North, assuming we don't get any new owners. That way we have 4 full divisions and everyone plays at least 6 h2h games.

Haha, maybe he also recalls how pretty much everyone in the AFC trounced him this season. ;)

I was hoping to get the Chargers, not sure who I want now.. Guess it'll be Bengals or Pats.

I may not be able to play another season. I will have internet on my deployment but I dunno how fit for multiplayer it is. and regardless how good it will probably lag like all get out because its coming from Dubai

the Pats may be out too, so I wouldn't mind moving out of the AFC East if we all want to switch it up. we can draw teams out of a hat or something if we want to make it more fair for those moving.

we still have the playoffs though, so I'm not too worried about it right now. we'll figure it out when we get to it and find out who is sticking around.

Wow thanks for that runner up nod, I am a winner in my book after those kind words :) I definitely feel like I got a lot better as the season went on. I had never played with the Bears before and it took me a while to pick out the best plays out of my playbook. I started off the season 3-3 and ended 12-4, but my 3 early losses were against some really good players (Patriots, Jets, and 49ers) so I'm not sure if the outcome would have changed if I had played you guys at the end of the season (I probably would have just lost by a smaller margin).

Alright Lions, when do you wanna get our game in? Does 4:00 p.m. EST tomorrow work for you? I'm only suggesting that time since that's what time we played last Friday, feel free to alter it at your convenience. If you get this message soon enough and want to play sometime tonight too, that's cool with me.

I think it's worth at least trying to get some new blood in before we move to one conference.

I also wouldn't mind re-picking teams, it's good to mix it up. Although I've grown pretty fond of the Titans.
