Well in Matt's defense, there are definitely a lot of players in this league that go out of their way to actively schedule matches while others take a much more passive approach and wait to be contacted. When a team or two end up holding up the league trying to play their games, a lot of times it's because it is one of those passive schedulers against another passive scheduler and they just go about with all their daily business and when it's nearing the deadline, they all of a sudden try to schedule things and then end up having conflicts and stuff. If everyone tried to schedule their games as soon as possible, I don't see why we can't advance in 2-3 days every week. I admit I probably have a lot more free time than a lot of people in this league, but not being able to set aside 45 minutes for a match every few days or so seems kind of ridiculous to me. And for the people who time after time struggle to find the free time to get their matches in, it seems like maybe they shouldn't really be in the league to begin with.
I noticed Matt is making a respectable effort to actively schedule matches this season, so I'm kind of inclined to side with him on this one, although I wouldn't go as far as to say he should cease to accommodate players in the future with scheduling issues. I just think Matt is doing everything he can on his end to get his games played, especially being from the West Coast when the majority of this league is from the east coast. I don't mean any disrespect to Scotts, but I would definitely consider him one of the more passive schedulers in the league, solely judging from my own personal experience (I've played him probably 4-5 times over the 3+ seasons I've played here). No one expects people to ditch work early simply to play a Madden game, but I don't understand why it's a hard concept to understand that someone would be upset if they schedule a match with their opponent at a certain time and he doesn't show up without sending any kind of message or anything. I obviously don't know what kinds of messages were sent back and forth in this particular situation, but I'm speaking more generally since I've been stood up on numerous occasions in the past. Obviously if you get stood up you're gonna be upset and ask why your opponent didn't show up...but you don't have to be sarcastic and say something like "what, do you expect me to leave work early just for a game of Madden?", just say sorry and that you got held up at work...things like that annoy me.
There is my rant of the day...thanks to my loyal fan-base that read it.
I told him my availability was best before 2 and after 9 on Tuesday. I can't help that this was interpreted as being exactly 9 PM. I look at "After 9" as being a 1-2 hour window, which I should have clarified. But, like I said, I received one XBL message, which is my main form of communication with players in both of my leagues, so I had no idea really that Matt was pushing for a very specific set time.
Also, I work as a television freelancer so it can be difficult for me to schedule in advance as I really don't know my availability, even the morning of. I know this is not ideal for a league like this and I have strongly considered dropping out due to what will surely be a busy holiday season for me.
