In an attempt to counteract the sure nose-dive in interest in our league in the coming weeks/months, I'd like to propose that we move to a 48-hour advancement period deadline for each week and make concessions as necessary. It already seems like guys are taking each of the now 3 days to schedule their games. If we shortened the deadline I believe we'd be able to get guys to schedules games more efficiently and keep the league running swimmingly along while also keeping interest at a level satisfactory to everybody.
Define "as necessary."
It's worth discussing. Most of the committed users in the league wouldn't have any trouble scheduling every 2 days, but obviously it's going to lead to a lot more unplayed games (and also people needing to play the CPU against owned teams). I'd personally be in favor of making the change, at least on a trial basis.
That said, dwindling interest as the year goes on is a natural part of the Madden lifecycle. Right now we're in season 3 and the league is still full (and has been pretty much all season), and we're about to add a few more people to the waiting list. People are definitely going to fall out as we go deeper into the year, as happens every year, but I'm not sure the pace of advancement will make a huge difference.
Undoubtedly making that change would allow us to get more games in (perhaps as much as an additional season when you work out the math), which I'd be all for. I'm less certain that it would extend the lifespan of the league in terms of real time. But I also don't think the natural 2 or so month lull between Madden releases is a bad thing. Even the most ardent among us get burned out come June or so.
