Marvel vs. Capcom 3 discussion thread

Appreciated! It was a GREAT event but probably more for me and the author because of the press pass that we had. Even that wasn't enough to get us in the doors right away, though.

The game plays great and I was able to drill Seth for a lot of the information given in said article (well the stuff about the leaked list).

New fighters announced -

From Capcom, we get guy from Bionic Commando and Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins - Link

from Marvel there's Magneto and...MODOK? That one came out of left field - Link

I'm kind of happy MODOK was unveiled... finally a character that hasn't been leaked / heavily rumored for months now. It was quite a surprise and I hope Capcom has more like it.

I hope Capcom is able to keep a lid on the leaks next time because having them out there spoiled so many of these reveals.

Reposting my comment from Eventhubs.

Interesting picks.
I'm excited for Spencer, regardless of the iteration that they used (I'm probably one of the few that doesn't mind it). They will probably be some Hazama comparisons, but he looks like a solid character. He will probably be on my squad.
Arthur looks fun; I liked playing with the lesser used characters in MvC2, so I might mess with around him.
Magneto is Magneto. Wasn't really a fan of him in MvC2 and my thoughts stand.
MODOK's design looks insane. This pick I never seen coming. It seems that he isn't going to rely on physical attacks as much, but who knows. I can't wait to see some video on him tomorrow.

he is going to be my main (guy from bionic commando)
i wonder if midway will do anything about the "get over here" line

I do not want MODOK in this, he seems like he's only been thrown in because of his recent popularity hike thanks to Super Hero Squad.

This is how they are choosing all the Marvel characters it seems. It's been rumored that another one of the characters is the "Chaos King" from the upcoming Marvel event.

Mike Haggar is rumored to be in it too, from the same leak as the Chaos King.

If you're in NYC, you can play it at the NYCC (ny comic con). They have tons of screens. It plays really well, I found it kinda too chaotic with the effects in the background for some levels but overall it was pretty smooth and had the MvC feel just updated graphics. p.s. Cammy the booth babe has a great butt.

I agree and I'm sure he'll have an alt that isn't totally stupid... right?

I am not a fan of the Marvel Vs Capcom series. I only ever liked the Xmen vs SF game that started it all. Having said that, seeing the characters they keep announcing has me a little excited. Except for some of the Capcom junk characters I couldn't care less about.

Wow, that's awesome that Spidey has different costumes, not just generic pallet swaps.
What is that green and black one?

There's the theory that they chose the dreadlocked look of Nathan RAD Spencer simply because his original retro look he looks like Wesker. Though I hope he has alternate outfits like Spidey.

Two Weskers are better than adding a hobo to the fight.

As opposed to ... say, Deadpool? I think that Dormammu and Super-Skrull (and in the past, Shuma-Gorath) are pretty good evidence that "popularity" isn't much of a factor where some characters are concerned.

We've already got a giant Fisher Price Weeble. Might as well add hobo with a bionic arm.

Deadpool's paid his dues though, he's finally getting to be in a MvC game because of that, MODOK has not. Super-Skrull's in because he's the F4 without using up 4 slots, and Dormammu's in because they needed a bad guy and probably couldn't figure out a good Supernatural villain that's legit.

I do not understand the Modok hate. He is kind of silly, but he's also a classic Marvel character. Whereas Shuma Goroth, how many different comics has he been in? Nor was he the size of the real comic character, as far as I know.

Also, here's the game's story:

Classic character or not, I'd much rather have fucking Shuma Goroth in this game than MODOK.

There's still more to be revealed, but right now, the only new character that I really care about is Wesker (and possibly Dante).

Yeah ... I dunno, man. I can't believe I'm going to try to make a case for MODOK of all characters, but:

Dormammu's first appearance is 1964; MODOK is 1967 -- they've both been around for roughly the same amount of time. Also, prior to Super Hero Squad, MODOK was in the first Ultimate Alliance game, and had pretty big roles in the 1985 series, Super-Villain Team Up, and Next-Wave, so it's not like he just popped out of nowhere when some Capcom exec saw Super-Hero Squad -- MODOK has been all over the place the last five years or so. He's even got a pretty major role in the terribad Hulk storyline going on now.

:: pushes nerd glasses back onto bridge of nose ::

Anyway, here's the real question: does Dormammu imply Dr. Strange as a character? No, he shouldn't be karate kicking dudes, but he's got lots of cool spells that would work: Crimson Bands of Cytorrak, etc. And speaking of terribad Hulk storylines: Red Hulk P2 costume?

/reads the above with little to no comprehension, can only think of:

Database: Uh, excuse me, Mr Simpson. On the Itchy & Scratchy CD-ROM, is there a way to get out of the dungeon without using the wizard key?
Homer: What the hell are you talking about?

Yeah, I know all that about MODOK, but he still didn't begin to really get super popular until Super Hero Squad, I'm not sure about anyone else, but the SHS toys that are always sold out around here are always MODOK. Speaking of NextWave, though, I would love it if Baby MODOK had a cameo in this. And I'm pretty sure Red Hulk is going to be P2 costume, it's one of those sure things for me.

This thread needs a bump and some more discussion since I was looking for it to see if anything new had been updated. Arthur seems like a great addition. I would have preferred they had included Maximo, but Arthur works. Actually, there's an idea, a new Maximo game for the current gen consoles with updated graphics/gameplay mechanics would be awesome. I would love to see some more of Capcom's lesser known, and thus, quirky characters included like Zak and Wiki just for the hell of it/shits and giggles

Have they said whether there'll be support characters in this one? I think Maximo would make sense in that regard.

Spencer: I do not want. Seems like a lame ass character. Kind of similar to Strider, with a greater range thanks to that Scorpion hand thing they gave him. Blech.

Magneto's, well, magneto. Didn't play as him much in MvC2, but he's alright and makes sense.

Modok, will wait and see before I pass judgment.

Shuma-Gorath would have been fun again. Deadpool works in this game, as he has in other games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Super Skrull and Dormammu make sense and work also.

I need confirmation that Gambit is in this one already. That will make my day for this game. Ice Man would be cool too if they just want to throw him in for the hell of it.
She reminds me of El Fuerte with a little Abel thrown in there.
I definitely saw some Fuerte in there. That was the first thing that came to mind.

She Hulk is a waste IMO, much rather have had Rogue or Ms. Marvel for the brawled type chick. This is much like X-23 to Wolverine and on a lesser extent Trish to Dante. And now that new rumored list has Spider-woman. If Mega Man is in, I hope they don't also throw in Roll.

Big fan of the Mega Man franchise so I love that Zero is in. Hope Mega Man gets in as well too, though. It just wouldn't be Marvel Vs. Capcom without the Blue Bomber. Since there was a bit of a protagonist/antagonist thing going on at first as well with franchises, I was kinda hoping for Sigma from the X series even though I knew it was highly unlikely.

The inclusion of Zero pretty much kills that hope since I can't see them adding more than 3 characters from the Mega Man series.

I have to wonder how much the DLC characters will be? Honestly, it looks like the SE is the way to go if BlazBlue character prices are any indication.

Word.

I just hope that there aren't too many DLC characters. I'd rather have DLC costumes and stages but I feel like characters needs to be something that is ironed out from the start. I'm definitely getting this version though. I needs Shuma.

That latest rumored list has up to fifty characters in it... but no mention of Jill and Shuma.

I'd rather have new characters than new outfits, really.

I think with the DLC characters it came to 38. Apparently if you have 5 bars with Phoenix, you're resurrected as Dark Phoenix, and she has Seth-like health.
