Marvel vs. Capcom 3 discussion thread
What is your Button Setup for a Stick on this game? It took me 5 minutes to setup something and it still feels a bit off to me.

My current setup:
L M H (A1+2)
S A1 A2 (L+M+H)

Maybe this would be better:
L M A1 (A1+2)
H S A2 (L+M+H)

Played roughly 2 hours, did 23% of the Missions, and got all 4 characters unlocked. Sometimes stuff just happens in this game.
Pretty sure the unlocks are based on your player points which you can earn doing missions. I'm using type Y on my SCIV Hori Fighting Stick. It only has 6 buttons on the face so it goes:

L M H
S A1 A2

Gonna stick with that so it will be easy to switch my control type instead of messing around with custom when I'm at somebody else's place.

Jimbo, it said your friends list was full, brother. If you delete anyone, let me know.

Itching to play this so badly. Probably going to grab it at around 2. Is there any news as to whether there'll be a Spectator Mode patch in the near future? At the moment, do the people in the lobby that aren't playing just...sit there?

I really wish they had thrown the urban Taskmaster costume into the mix. They used the color scheme, but not the mask. Looks much cooler.
It fits the game well, however trying to execute X-factor on a pad is just going to get you killed.
I think I'll be okay activating X-Factor. ;)

Just got back from Target. They only had 3 special editions for each system from the looks of it, and I only saw 3 of the advertised action figures behind the counter. At least the figure was Iron Man.
I actually think they all look good and know I'm gonna buy 'em.
Same here. Street Fighter 1 Ryu? Way too cool. And Thor's looking nice and old-school as well.

DLC sells best in the first 3 months after a game is released. Cosmetic DLC especially will almost always be released very soon after a game ships, so it's best to get used to it.

I really want this game, even though I never really played MvC2 and considered the vs series way too fucking insane. I also have a $40 GC burning a hole in my pocket....what to do, what to do.

I really think I want one of those PDP pads... I have an extra SFIV Akuma pad.... Maybe I should sell that and put it towards the new pad.

Haven't heard much about them, are the better than the madcatz ones? I heard those were good, but something about the d-pad degrading over time or something like that? It was the only thing stopping me from getting it, as it reminded me of the Saturn pad.
I still prefer the Hori EX2 pad

Never looked into this before but I know Hori makes quality stuff! If my fightpad craps out on me, I will have to track one of these down.
What is OTG? On the ground?
Off the Ground actually, since the action of putting them onto the ground is implied already, it refers to the ability to continue a combo off the ground!
It's just the codes. They won't be available til march like everyone else.
So this is just like Alan Wake in that I have to hold onto the code until Mid-March before I redeem the token?

So apparently some jackass employee at the Best Buy where I pre-ordered the SE thought it would be funny to steal all of them. I got a call from a manager at the store at around 10:30AM informing me of the situation and telling me they went missing between last night & this morning. None of the area BB stores had it and they wouldn't be getting more for a week or more.

Luckily I was able to get a copy at a nearby Target. Now I have to cancel my BB order. I'm so fucking mad.

Here's their genius move:
You can redeem your token now and you'll be sent an email on March 15th. If you got the PS3 version however, your PSN code is already on the comic.

Wow. I'd say he's dumb risking his job like that, but SEs of this game are selling for TONS on eBay right now!

What button layout are you guys using with your arcade sticks? I've been trying to figure out what they might use if this were in arcades.

I was thinking

L M H
S A1 A2

Or something >_>

^ just use configuration option 2 or b or whatever it's called. It's exactly what you have (what what I am currently using).

Also, I fucking love that each character has their own ending (ala TvC, but not as nice). Greatly increases replayability for me over MvC2's (where I had 2 randoms and then spammed Cable's Viper Beam once they died, lol). Over summer I seriously need to get XBL though...

So I've unlocked
37 achievements
so far. Some of them are pretty clever, but man those Mission ones are going to slow me down.

Something disturbs me about the License though. Your friends list DOES NOT SORT who has the game and who doesn't. In addition, it doesn't automatically update their License, you have to do it yourself. That's very discouraging. It's like they pushed it out early or something.

Sounds like something that can be patched in the future I hope.
Typical Capcom shenanigans. At least the costumes come with Shadow Mode but I'm still not buying. Now if Jill and Shuma would have been included as well for $5, I would bite.
Yeah, the special edition is $10 more and you think they should give the main selling point of that away and a bunch of extra costumes for $5? Maybe you could trade some food stamps towards the character DLC when it goes on sale. :D

I think Jill and Shuma alone will be $10, just based on the pricing we're seeing. I don't see them charging the same because that'd make their Costume Pack look cheap.

Sorry, what's shadow mode? Is that the one where you "fight" against top ranked player AI or ghosts or something like that?

Also, absolutely loving all the little character specific dialogue (intro, end of match, win quotes). Has less characters than MvC2, but each has more "character".

Just Jill and Shuma are, at the moment, right? Wasn't there some sort of poll for future character DLC, though?

I meant to take a nap for 2 hours, so I set my alarm and promptly slept right through it. 4 1/2 hour nap...alrighty. Heading out to get the game now.

Ok I suck at this. I'm just trying to do the Iron Man Mission with ducking L, ducking M, standing H, then Uni Beam L. I can get to the uni beam and do it, but it doesn't take it as part of the combo.

Ugh.

I can do 7 of the missions with most characters but then it just gets beyond me. I doubt I will ever have the full 1000.

Of course what I said was totally unrealistic but that is the only way I would buy them. I have the money to spend but usually refuse to support the DLC model that has taken over. I made an exception and begrudgingly bought the Black Ops map pack to play with friends who also bought it and immediately felt like I had abandoned my principles.
Shadow Mode could also be free DLC
It's included with the $5 costume pack. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/114/1149813p1.html

Exactly.
I heard somewhere that Frank West and Doc Ock are on the physical game disc.

No major source, but with Capcom, it wouldn't surprise me.
Actually it was Frank West and Elektra, but I don't really care.

By my calculations I need to play through Arcade Mode 15 more times right now to unlock every ending and get 100,000 PP. It might also unlock everything in the Gallery for me as well.

Also, the only DLC costume pack I will buy is if they make a Taskmaster one that looks ridiculously similar to Skeletor.

i really wish fighting games had a meter for each move. so i wouldnt have to block the same attack

magnetos super is cheap if you save it up 5 times and just spam it at the end

Enjoying it. I knew the control scheme would be like TvC going in, but it's still messing me up. I love the 6 button typical layout that Street Fighter has and prefer it. So, I either learn to adapt and try to not take it too serious, or I go balls out and learn to perfect it, but risk ruining my SF game. And I absolutely love the SF games.

Either way, MvC3 is tons of fun.

So, uh...I suck at this game. Out of the 21 matches I've played with my buddy, I won 2.

When they get you into a combo, you kind of just have to sit there and watch your guy get the shit beat out of him. Getting a Team Aerial Counter is pretty damn hard to predict. I guess I just have to get used to the game, but for now I'm getting my ass handed to me, to the point where he's kind of getting bored of winning.
I'm having all kinds of trouble getting into matches online... Open NAT and all.

Try setting "Rank" to any. Every time I try to find same rank matches, I get the "connection lost" message.

Same, I haven't tried any of the lobbies yet.

Hey, what are Events? I looked in the Titles section and above the PP titles are stuff called Events, and they're titled 1-50.

They didn't put DLC titles in there that we can't earn yet, did they?

I'm sorry, but having to vote in a Mega Man (any of them) into a game called Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is like having to vote Mario into Super Smash Brothers.

The producers cited challenges to updating Mega Man but I just think Capcom just wants customers to pay for him.

No, he'd be worse because that'd be his L attack. Pew Pew Pew all day long. He'd also be able to absorb powers of those he kills.
