Mass Effect 2 Discussion - Fight for the Lost
My one male Shepard came out well (I always play female when I can make my character. Usually do one run as a male to get the alternate romances/dialogue, but then it's back to female characters). I'll post some pics of my Shepards later.
I've only tried a female character once or twice and I do agree that the females could come out quite nicely. The only thing I'd ask them to improve upon for female customization in ME2 would be the hairstyles, as it seemed limited to 3-4 different kinds which all looked similar.

Yeah I liked the look of the initial Sheppard dude, just tweaked him a bit. For my second profile I used a custom female Sheppard. Next profile I made a blasian (hehe) male Sheppard, then after that I made a hot female Sheppard. The default character model is there if you want it, what are they going to do on the cover art, a dude, nah a person with the Mass Effect logo in front of their face.

Yeah, I didn't want to watch any videos but then I splurged last night. Holy f@ck, the vangaurd powers are awesome, the infiltrator can cloak and the engineer gets a combat drone that can be used as a suicide bomber tactic!

I also love Chuck so I was glad to see her when they revealed the cast, too bad Tricia Helfer is a virtual blue ball. >
I'm a default Sheppard guy. I like the look of the character.
Same here. Didn't feel the need to change his appearance when I first booted the game.

Just started a new playthrough today and just to mix things up I made Shepard a red-headed, hot chick. I consider this new playthrough an alternate history of events because default Shepard will always be canon to me ;)

Holy crap I wasn't expecting this, got my Feb OXM today which has Mass Effect 2 Exclusive Review in it. Didn't want to read anything so I skimmed through the entire mag and they gave ME2 a
9.5 claiming the main story line was a bit disappointing; dull element mining and hacking as the only negatives.
The issue also has a big Bioware origins story and Halo Reach stuff. :bouncy:

I'm an OXM subscriber and fan, but what you put in your spoiler makes me want to punch the reviewer (kidding of course) in the head. But, then again, they've played the game and I haven't, so I guess I should just shut my mouth and wait. I was hoping my issue came today, but it didn't.

Yeah I didn't read the article because OXM doesn't know the word spoiler so I can't access the comment. That score is still enough for a pre-order and I usually look at metacritic than just one source because everyone has different opinions and preferences.
Do we really need reviews to know this game is going to be awesome?
Nope! ^_^

Who is that in your signature btw? She looks vaguely familiar. :whistle2:k

Yeah, it's not like any review, positive or negative, will keep me from the game. I'm just an unashamed fanboy for Mass Effect. I'd love to see the game get unbelievable scores across the board.

Yes we dooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so not buying the game now because some random person whose review I didn't read apparently said something negative about ME2.

WTS: Slightly brand new copy of ME2 collector's edition. ;)
It's MiChi. A Japanese/British singer.

If you know who she is that's awesome! Even most Jpop fans don't know MiChi.
Heh, I feel your pain. I'm a fan of Mayumi Kojima (Note: My Live tag is actually an album title of hers) but hardly anyone on either side of the map acknowledges her quirky brilliance or existence. She's responsible for the song being used in the infamous SMB4 commercial where everyone was wearing Mario heads:

I enjoy exploring different genres of music whenever humanly possible so thanks for reminding of MiChi. I must have ran into a single of hers in the past during one of my many unsupervised musical excursions. Props.

Btw my apologies for heading off topic. >_>;

I love Mayumi Kojima! That's another person who knows her and MiChi. Awesome XD Btw, I have a Jpop thread in the off topic forum if you want to talk about more there.

Oh yeah, Mass Effect 2. Can't. fucking. Wait.

This should help get us back on track :):

Four new gameplay videos emerged yesterday from the CES 2010 event where BioWare showed off a new demo of Mass Effect 2. The links to the 4 part walkthrough are below.
Note about the vids for those weary of spoilers (like myself):
The videos consist of part of a mission that takes place during the game. There's only one small detail revealed in the video about whichever mission is taking place and, if you have already witnessed the Mordin introduction video, then you know what is going on. In addition to that, there is only one conversation shown in the video and there's nothing even remotely revealing about the two or three lines said. If you've read through this thread at all, you've probably noticed how anal I or other members are about having the game be somewhat of a surprise to us at launch. With that in mind I'll go ahead and say that I do not feel spoiled in any way/shape/form, and I'm actually glad I got to see more of Vanguard Shepard in action against one of the new enemies in ME2. In short: new enemies, minuscule dialog, part of an objective of a mission who's importance is not revealed in the video, a lot of Vanguard action. That's it.

CES 2010: Show Floor Playthrough Pt. 1
CES 2010: Show Floor Playthrough Pt. 2
CES 2010: Show Floor Playthrough Pt. 3
CES 2010: Show Floor Playthrough Pt. 4

I went ahead and placed a pre-order @ GS( I know, but I have a decent amount of credit there) for the regular version, I told the guy that I wanted the CE version but they are not taking pre-orders anymore for it, he said to check back a week later and he can then sell me any pre-orders that were not picked up.

Aghhh.... I'm dieing here. The only footage I have seen of ME2 is the E3 footage and that is it. I've been hiding from everything and it is starting to kill me! I want to look! *cries*

Finished my last playthrough of ME1 to prepare for this! Ended up getting the Paragon and lvl. 60 achievements, too! Playing through the first game again made me want this all the more...

You know I'm sort of surprised we're allowed to both exist on the same planet breathing the same air without causing some sort of irreparable damage to the Space Time Continuum. Thanks. I'll be sure to hit it up because I could use some new music to listen to asap.

Ugh... must resist the urge to watch videos. Must. Not. Spoil. Thy. Self.

There's plenty of videos to watch (squadmates, classes) that don't spoil the game or narrative, and give you plenty to look forward to. C'mon, you know you want to...;)

It's worth it just to hear Jacob exclaim "Gravity's one mean mother isn't it!?" in the background as he pulls an enemy into the air

I have no idea how many of you out there care about installing games to the HDD whenever you play, but just a head's up: Mass Effect 2 is supposedly going to take up ~14GBs when installed to the HDD. For those who still hold on to the 20GB HDDs, there's pretty much no way you're going to be able to install ME2. For those with the 60GB, 120GB, or 250GB () HDD - you'll be just fine.
I never install unless absolutely necessary so this doesn't effect meeeeeeeeee. ^_^
This!

I must admit, though... I am curious about how much of a difference it would make in loading time.

I haven't watched any videos since that first
"but you're dead!"
trailer... (Well OK, I watched the vanguard preview too, but that's because my first ME1 playthrough was a vanguard.) Anyway, just have to hold out for a few more weeks! :bomb:
I must admit, though... I am curious about how much of a difference it would make in loading time.
I like to install just to reduce the drive noise. Freeing up 14GB is going to be an ordeal, though. I hope there's a way to install one disc at a time.

Nooooooooooooooo!

As soon as I saw there was a Tali trailer, I quickly hid from even seeing that there is a trailer. It's because I used to go insane and watch/study every ounce of information that would come out (like Assassins Creed 1) and it would always lead to disappointment... so now I'm the other extreme. Oh well, it's fun.
I'm playing through part one again, and the drive noise is ridiculous.

I think I am going to install.
Agreed. I just got a 120gb HDD for Xmas, but it did not come with the transfer cable. Is there an easy way to get one? Or should I just wait for my friend to get his 120 and take his?

Man holy crap they weren't kidding when they said two discs. Well I'll have to delete a few games I've got on the hard drive, my dvd drive is getting old so I try to play half on the hard drive and half of my games using the dvd. Games that I know I'll spend hours playing like Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Edition are installed on my 120 GB hard drive (which is also full of videos and game addons).
I always install. Anything that reduces work for it I'm going to do.
Same here.

What version is everyone ordering? Seems like if you want the deluxe version you have to order from EA. If you want the coolest armor you have to order a regular v ersion from GameStop? at this point I'm almost ready to pre-order from EA because I'm wondering what that Cerebus card gets you in the deluxe version?

Granted, this was before they ran out of stock at GS and Amazon, so the decision was much easier. The Cerberus Network card comes with every copy of ME2, not just the Collector's Edition.

I snagged the CE from GS as soon as their systems had it registered but never asked whether or not the armor was a Standard Edition exclusive or not. Either way I'll be asking for Inferno when I pick up.

Ha dude, it is funny just how many people are being swayed to at the very least, take a serious look at purchasing the collections edition due to the awesome box art. Maybe that was Bioware's plan all along with the hideous standard edition box art.

I took the bullet a few minutes ago and just pre-ordered the CE version from EA. It didn't hurt too much because I really like Mass Effect and hope this little bit support a sequel. Plus the Collecters Armor and weapon look pretty too.

Thanks to Tha Xecutioner for helping to convince me!

everything looks awesome and I picked up m.e. for $9.99+tax @ kmart as it's on their weekly sale right now so now I have a quick question please. I did not pre order yet, but who has the best deal for pre order? I am looking to get the limited edition of course and am thinking of just buying it @ launch day and hope to get a gift card through a deal with best buy, tru or somewhere else. But i'd still like to try and be able to get some pre order bonuses if possible but am weighing the options.

I've never ordered a game at launch off of Amazon. But does it generally come the day of? Do I have to choose a certain shipping rate? Thanks for any info!

Yeah release day shipping will get it to you the day it comes out, this is what I did with the first.
