Mass Effect 2 Discussion - Fight for the Lost
As cool as it would be to get the Hammerhead DLC tomorrow, I seriously doubt it's going to happen. I would think that Bioware would want to hype up the first big download for ME2 a bit rather than just drop it unannouced. The PC patch that tweaked with vehicle controls was a good sign, though. Hopefully it's close.
Agreed. I can't imagine them not hyping the shit out of this DLC for a week or so.

I have been out of the loop a bit as I stayed away from this thread until I finished the game.

What good is the hammerhead dlc? Where would you drive the hammerhead? What mission? Or is it suppose to come with a bunch?
They should let you barge into the bathroom and surprise people. Maybe give you a couple of Renegade points for it. :)
Well, in the bathrooms at one of the clubs there is a Turian standing at the urinal - but unfortunately he doesn't say anything. Even a "Get lost, I'm busy" would have been good. He's there every time you go in. I wonder what you could be interrupting there? It reminded me of this one time I saw a movie and this guy was at the urinal when I went in before the movie and then again right after it started and he was still there. The people behind me said he was doing funny things there (right in the middie in full view - I didn't look enough to see what it was ;)). That was like 15 years ago but that one part of ME2 totally brought back the memory!

Anyway, hopefully whatever DLC they bring to the Cerberus Network will still be around in a year or two when I re-purchase the game. Mine is currently residing at the local GS and my Edge card is $56 richer ;).
I have done miranda's loyalty mission, but not jack's. Can I side with Jack but romance Miranda to get around the loyalty bug?
No fuckin' idea. I'm a good chunk of the way through my Insanity run, and I intend to make this my "canon" run, and I did Miranda's loyalty a long time ago, so... I'm-a just wing this shit.

I also don't plan on doing any of the romances and what-not this go around. Wish me luck!
If the Cerberus network concept really is to work, to get people to buy new and not used, then I think they'd better be rolling out more free DLC. What they've given out thus far isn't really enough to convince most people to plunk down the extra $15 to download, or the extra whatever to buy new.

I don't know. Pinnacle Station was pretty weak DLC. If it was made considerably better, with more storyline to it, it might work. But I'd want a lot more than just a Pinnacle Station port to ME2.
See I would normally agree with you but Pinnacle Station didn't quite work because the combat was held back. Not so much in the sequel, the combat is a freakin' blast especially when you throw in some hotkey abilities and mass effect powers. I just want something that can allow me to continue the awesomeness of the game without having to replay through the story. Don't get me wrong I love the story but like I said before this is like the equivalent to multiplayer, the meat of the game (even though everyone isn't all connected online/I hope you understand what I'm saying lol).

I want to continue the experience through true expansions-think the Oblivion or Fallout expansions.

Or at the least, stuff like Bringing Down the Sky--but with several missions between now and ME3, not just the one like ME1 got.

You are able to get the achievement as long as you beat the game. No specific ending is required.

No. Once you side against someone in the argument, you permanently lose the chance to romance them, even if you gain their loyalty back later.

Well I don't know about Insanity yet, but in my Veteran play-through I did Miranda's loyalty quest early and Jack's very late. I was maxed Paragon at the time and there was no issue with diffusing the situation. In my Insanity play-through I've already done Miranda's mission and I'm hoping it won't be an issue this time either.

Well, I just tried it with 4/5ths, and... no fuckin' dice.

I've also had a cunt of a time getting Zaeed's loyalty as a paragon. I just re-did my build so I'm a shock trooper (30% more bonus to paragon/renegade than commando), and I'll take the death mask thingy with me next time...

Just so you know (maybe you already do), you can complete the game and not lose a single person with a non-loyal squadmate. Because of the glitch I was unable to sway Miranda back (even with 100% Paragon) so I just went to the end anyway. I made sure not to have her lead anything and she made it through just fine along with all the others (and this was on Insanity of course).

So, yeah, I wouldn't sweat it. Now, this was not my "canon" run - that will have to wait till later. I want my Liara romance/Rachni saving ME1 save to carry through and I screwed up by using my renegade Ashley romance/Rachni nuking save (because it was at a higher level and I honestly didn't remember what I did at first on my two ME1 playthroughs so I just chose the higher level one).

Aye, I didn't have her loyal the first time, and I know I had a cuntload of paragon points at that time, too. Got everyone loyal on my female run, at least. Then lost Mordin anyway.

Still!

So, Crotch, you think I should finally get around to playing Fire Emblem for the Wii now that I'm done with ME2? ;)

Actually, I popped in a different SRPG last night for a change of pace (from ME2 that is). It was just something random off my backlog: Spectral Force 3 (for 360). That's probably an even bigger offence in your eyes though!

...

Well... no, not really. But only because I was expecting you'd say Arc the Lad: Twilight of whateverthefuckitwascalled Goddammmitthatgamewasafuckingpieceofshit.

also
has anyone gotten the geth pulse rifle and if yes how does it stack up against the triple burst assault rifle (i forgot the name).
alright! thanks.

also
has anyone gotten the geth pulse rifle and if yes how does it stack up against the triple burst assault rifle (i forgot the name).
Here's a comparison of all the weapons in the game.

For the two specific assault rifles that you mentioned:

Geth Pulse Rifle
Fire Mode: Automatic
Base Damage: 10.8
Damage per Second: 111

Damage Multipliers:
vs. Armor - 1.15x
vs. Shields - 1.35x
vs. Barriers - 1.35x

Magazine Capacity: 40
Spare Ammo Capacity (default): 480

M-15 Vindicator
Fire Mode: Triple-shot burst
Base Damage: 36.8
Damage per Second: 145

Damage Multipliers:
vs. Armor - 1.25x
vs. Shields - 1.25x
vs. Barriers - 1.25x

Magazine Capacity: 24
Spare Ammo Capacity (default): 96
-------------------------------------

It boils down to whether you want a gun that does more damage with less ammo, or less damage with more ammo. Also worth noting is the balance of the M-15 Vindicator against all types of armor.

Hehe I'm doing a survey about Dragon Age Awakening (the expansion they're coming out for Dragon Age) and also comparing it to Mass Effect 2. Here is a list of reasons why I bought Mass Effect 2 (I checked all of them lol)

Thanks for the link, ^ I have been curious about the stats of the collector Rifle for a while since the descriptions in game is pretty poor.

Any tips to help the planet scanning go faster? It's the main thing I don't like from the transition from the 1st to the 2nd game.
Any tips to help the planet scanning go faster? It's the main thing I don't like from the transition from the 1st to the 2nd game.
By the end of my play through on the 360 version, I was using only the right analog and the left trigger to do my scanning.

The first thing I would do is send a probe out as far to the south on the planet as I can - that acted as my start/stop point. I would then go up to the top of the planet and hold the right analog right - which starts spinning the planet -- while tapping the left trigger at a rhythm of every half second or so. I would complete a pass, then move the cursor down to the next grid-lines and do it again. After five or so passes, the entire planet is scanned and it only takes four or five minutes.

There may be slightly faster ways, but using the right analog rather than the left meant I didn't miss anything. I kept going off trajectory when I was scanning with the left analog.

Other thing is to at most fully scan the "Rich" and "Good" planets. Others just scan to make sure there's an anomoly.

I was scanning every planet to depletion for about 75% of my first play through and had a shit ton of minerals left over and thus wasted a ton of time on the boring ass scanning.

BattleChicken's method is proably the best way to be thorough on those you want to scan to depletion as you'll fined every deposit that way.

Quick question that i need help with. I just got a mint used copy of the game from GS.com and I cant get the first disc to boot up. I will put it in the system and it will try to read the disc for a 10-15 seconds and it just goes back to saying "open tray" on the console. I have tried like 10 other games and they all seem to start fine.

Edit:
Even the second disc works fine.

Real sorry if this is re-post question but I did search! 131 pages is a lot to go through (I tried) So again sorry if this has been asked 50 times

I just finished the game and I lost 3 people. I lost my tech that went through the tubes, one of second squad leaders, and for some random reason a third person that i NEVER selected to do anything. They just showed them dead as the collector's walked by at the end.

I'm 100% paragon and completed EVERY loyalty mission. So why did my people die? lol Did i choose weak people? Is it just random?

It has to do with the people you selected for the various tasks of the final mission. Who were your choices for Second Team leader (both times), Tech Specialist, Biotic Specialist, and the person who escorted the crew back (if applicable)? Also, who did you have in your 3-man squad?

You chose... poorly.

GrailKnight.jpg

Legion or Tali as tech specialists. Garrus, Miranda, or Jacob as second squad leaders. Jack or Samara/Morinth to protect you from the swarms.

The last person you lost was a bit more complicated. See, those people that you don't select to do anything in the final fight? Yeah, they're doing something. They're staying back and making sure that you have an exit route/don't get attacked from behind by Collectors. Different characters have different values in that. Garrus? Garrus held a fortress against three different mercenary groups. He's great at that thing. A more fragile character like Mordin or Tali, however, runs the risk of dying. If the collective "defensive scores" for your unused characters is lower than some arbitrary hidden number Bioware picked, then the weakest characters will start dying.

For the approach to the base, make sure you have the two shield upgrades and one gun upgrade for the Normandy.

For the tech specialist (in the vent), choose Legion or Tali. For the fire team leader, choose Miranda, Garrus, or Jacob. Same options when you choose the fire team leader for the second time. For the biotic shield, choose Samara or Jack.

As long as everyone is loyal, that should do the trick.

Tech in tube I used Mordin, first 2nd squad leader was Jacob, Biotic was Samara, and second 2nd squad leader was Zaeed

Thankfully I remembered to save before I landed at the base so I'll give those combinations a try! Thanks everyone!

Just finished my second playthrough as Adept on Insanity.

Played as female Shepard, romanced Thane, was Renegade, finished at Level 30.
Only Thane died (screw you Miranda, learn how to make better biotic shields).

3 hardest missions/side missions:

-1st wave of Grunt's loyalty mission. Those varren drove me crazy. Shockwave was completely ineffective against them and they constantly ran through my Singularity.

-Collector ship. The Harbingers combined with the Scions spamming Shockwave at the same time drove me nuts.

-The Quarian crash site side mission. Only thing I didn't complete. Is this possible?

I think I'm gonna do my 3rd playthrough as an Engineer. Gonna wait for the next DLC first though.

My mind was blown when I found out that MGS Naomi is also the voice of female Shepard... wow. Yea, you guys have said it before - but I never put the pieces together.

Also: Samus Aran, Bastilla Shan, Fall From Grace, and about a billion other characters.

Haha, yea looking through her IMDB. I didn't know it was possible to beat Nolan North...

Also, is there any new interviews with any of the Bioware guys about ME2? (Post release) I've been dying to hear what they have to say about some of the stuff we have knowledge about now.

Although it's hard for me to pick anything over the Vanguard, it may just be my new favorite class. With the right build, the Engineer can handle anything. I'd highly recommend giving that class a try.

The only things I have witnessed were Christina Norman's visit on the CAGcast and Casey Hudson talking about the future of Mass Effect on IGN a while back. Other than that, none that I have seen.

I'm hoping the Hammer Head DLC will be good and add some much wanted exploration to the game. I have big fears that I will be riding the hover tank in areas around the same size as some of the outdoor anomaly sections or it will be like when you ride the mako on Noveria... I'd be greatly upset if that happens.

This is disgusting.

I'm a Lvl. 4 Soldier (Sheploo w/ Terminus Armor so zero weapon damage boost there) with only three points allocated my specialty class as well Miranda's but I'm STILL one-shotting Insanity mercs and Vorcha with full bars of health AND protection using only the Mantis sniper, Eviscerator shotgun and Lvl. 1 Armor Piercing Ammo.

...The fuck?

I'm seriously tempted to ditch this play-through and start up another Vanguard run immediately. I fully aware Snipers are overpowered now but APA headshots are unreal. Jesus...

There needs to be some DLC where Conrad Verner (your obsessed fan) turns on you for being such a sell-out with the Citadel shops ;).

Mako is a type of shark as well. So are Lemon, Angel, Whale, and Tiger just to name a few :).

Looks like we've got some official Hammerhead info:

Download the Firewalker pack and gain access to 5 new missions featuring the Hammerhead. The Hammerhead is a heavy assault vehicle that hovers over the battlefield at up to 120 kilometers per hour and features a guided missile system ensuring accuracy even during aggressive maneuvering. Coming late March, free to all Cerberus Network members!

Looks like someone may have jumped the gun. Official announcement looks like it's coming soon!
