Mavs to the Finals: Congrats to the Heat

Congrats Heat! fuck you Mavs! Thats what you get when you have Dampier on the squad and your best player is always flopping. Glad to see Mark Cuban got so close and failed miserably, this series has really made my hatred for the Mavericks go up to a whole new level with all their complaining and bitching. Can't believe I'd ever root for a team with Shaq, Mourning, and Pat Riley but Cuban's dumbass has managed to make me do that.
lol cuban's dumbass? what about your dumbass
Completely off-topic, but every time I see your name I think "pimp tranny" for some reason.
Werent you the guy that called Riley a sack of useless shit? Five Rings as a coach.
You really are an idiot. I called him a sack of shit for throwing Van Gundy under the bus and taking a over a team that Van Gundy made a winner after Riley wanted nothing to do with them.

Well, for some reason, I don't feel very upset about the Mavs losing. I think there's two main reasons why.

First of all, since moving to Guam, I haven't really been able to watch much of the games. They air here around 11 a.m. and I'm at work, so I just check ESPN for the scores. That kinda takes the emotion out of the game for me.

Secondly, I think I may be solely responsible for the Mavs collapse. I've bet on the Mavs several times before, and every single time I have, they lost. I bet jlarlee that the Mavs would beat the Lakers in what ended up being their biggest choke in franchise history a few seasons ago. This was the one where they were up like 30 points at half time.

Anyway, they were playing great, I bet on them and they completely imploded. Mavs fans, you have me to blame for us losing the Finals. I have joined the ranks of Steve Bartman and other fans who have singlehandely caused their respective teams to lose a pivotal game.

I feel very weary right now from the emotional beating I've been giving myself all day. I'll say it again in hopes of future forgiveness from my Mavs brethren - I am sorry. I have caused our team the biggest collapse in franchise history and to lose the biggest series ever.

From this point forward, I will never bet on the Mavs again. Instead, I will bet against the Mavs in hopes of somehow redeeming myself.

Hopefully, Cubes can keep the team together, we can make another playoff run and get into the Finals again. But next time will be different, because I won't be there to ruin the day.

The Heat completely outplayed the Mavericks tonight from the second quarter on. The Mavs were beaten on both ends of the floor, they failed to capitalize on turnovers and open shots, meanwhile commiting lots of stupid things as well. Congrats to Wade, what a talent that guy is.

I really hope Cuban can add a player or two to this roster and get Van Horn out of town, what a waste of money. Devin Harris is going to be terrific, he's a damn good defender, and a great attacker too. He reminds me a lot of Tony Parker. I also think Josh Howard will continue to get better, I hope the Mavs hold onto him. Dirk completely collapsed when his team needed him the most, something I didn't think he would do after terrorizing the Suns and Spurs. Oh well, I hope he can learn a thing or two from Dwyane on stepping up when he REALLY needs to......here's to next year!

All Dirk needs to do is to take the ball to the fuggin rim.

Did anyone notice that when the game was tied within the last minute or two, Wade had the ball out on the wing, gave Dirk a forearm in the chest, and Dirk was called for the foul? It could honestly very well just be me, but I thought that was horrendous. Somebody tell me I'm wrong, because I don't want to go around saying that was a BS call if it wasn't.

But then Wade went to the line, sank the two FTs, and then the Mavs had to play catch-up ball. I thought that call cost the Mavs the game (although it was more Dirk's fault for going back to Nellie ball). Marquis Daniels made some great plays; I was glad to see that, I'm a fan of his for some reason.

On another note: I'm glad to see Wade become a great player; he really does seem humble- so that's cool. Although I'm really not one of those people who thinks the NBA is rigged or there's a big conspiracy, I thought Wade got a lot of BS calls during the series (it's not his fault though, so I don't hate him). I'm glad to see Zo win one because of the kidney thing, and I'm glad to see Shaq win one without Kobe. The rest of the heat can suck my nuts, especially Antoine Walker.

And so can Dirk for now. He's got to keep working on his inside game, he's gotten so much better since last season, let's hope he can improve like that again until next season.

Congrats heat fans.

The Mavs would have won the series if they hit their jumpers OR started driving to the basket. The difference in foul shots was because they just weren't making a lot of contact and pushing towards the rim. It was a decent series but I would have like to see a Game 7. I like Shaq and Wade though so whatever...

Me, with terrible hair, immediately after the game:
Diaw played pg back in ATL. I dont know why but I guess its cause he was the only one that knew how to pass the ball. It's the first him I've seen a guy that can play the 1 or 5 spot.
The only other guy that I am aware of that did that is Magic Johnson.

Anyway, that was a pretty exciting series (and playoffs) overall. Some things of note....

Dirk Nowitzki as perhaps the best foreign player in the NBA.

He took his game to a new level in the playoffs and right now is perhaps the best foreign born player in NBA history with Steve Nash being the only other choice currently. Yao will get there one day though.

The emergence of Jason Terry as a star.

This guy was a great player on a crappy team for way to long and now the whole country has been introduced to this outstanding player. He absolutley played his ass off for the majority of the series and was probably the Mavs MVP in the series.

The emergence of Avery Johnson as an elite coach.

Granted, the team he inherited was already pretty good, but he took them to a level that they had never been to and the future looks good. He showed fire and passion and can only get better.

The legacy of Shaq.

The man won a title without Kobe. Regardless if they made up or not, you know Shaq has a shit-eating grin a mile wide on his face right now.

The legacy of Riley.

The man had a good team to start with and managed to get all of those egos to work together towards a common goal. He has won championships with two different teams and is one one of three coaches to do that.

The emergence of Dwyane Wade as the face of the NBA.

Yeah, Lebron will get there. Yeah, Wade had a better supporting cast. But right now he is the man. He seems genuine, doesn't do any noticable trash talking, and appears to appreciate what he has done. The sky is the limit for this great player and with that jump shot of his becoming more of a weapon he'll only get better.

Mourning, Payton, Walker, Williams and others all getting their first title.

I think most people are happy for Zo even if they aren't fans of his because the man went through a lot to get to this point. I am a Georgetown fan and beside Charles Barkely, Zo was my favorite player in the 90's. I am very happy to see the big fella get a ring.

NBA Basketball's rising popularity.

After Jordan retired they were waiting for the next big thing and we have gotten it in different places over the last few years. The Spurs, the Pistons, the draft class of 2003. NBA Basketball is becoming FAN-tastic once again thanks to rule changes to speed up the game, increase scoring, and increase excitement. These layoff were the best in recent memory and the league and players should be commended for that. I look forward to seeing more from Dallas and Miami in the future.

MIAMI HEAT ARE THE NBA CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!
WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Anyway, it is good to see some people giving props to the Heat unlike the pieces of shit over at ESPN who looked like they got punched in the face after Dallas lost. I swear the people at ESPN are horrible. First they say they were rooting for the HEAT, like Steven A and Legler, when that is absolutely false. These guys talked so much trash against the Heat and after they won they started talking like if they were for them all along.

Next is how most everybody at ESPN has been doubting the Heat and portraying them as an inferior team, and even after they whooped Dallas in their own home ESPN still has the nerve to say the Heat isn't a good team and talk trash about them and say we have no chance of winning again. WTF?

I've been watching ESPN all morning and it has been the worst reporting I have seen on sports ever. No respect or props for the Heat whatsoever. Go to hell ESPN and all of the haters, doubters and naysayers that said the Heat couldn't beat Dallas and couldn't stop Dirk.

You know, I'm starting to get real tired of ESPN. As much as I love sports (and hate pretty much everything Fox), we need another alternative. I swear, if I hear Jon Miller make another American name sound latin, I'll shove a pencil in his fibia.

Comcast/FoxSports is my alternative (Sage Steele is good). ESPN doesn't bother me much yet, but I can see how it would bother others. I don't mind a few attempts at humor but in general I prefer just hearing the news. I don't need everyone to try to be Kenny Mayne. And the catch phrases...good God. Please Stu Scott and everyone else, just stop. And Neil Everett sounds like he is taking a shit whenever he finishes a sentence. Listen to the strain....

Chrris Berman still is the best TV personality they have.

I do thouroughly enjoy Mike and Mike in the Morning though. Best thing to come out of ESPN in ages. Both guys are likeable (unlike Jim Rome and Colin Cowherd).

Dirk did get hit by Wade, and it was a really bad call, and Terry's jersey was pulled on his last shot, however the Mavs really blew this game. There were some silly calls both ways, but the Mavs had the opportunity to win it. They were up by 14 and then managed to go down at the half. They came out with so much fire and intensity and by the 2nd quarter it was gone.

Wade is a great player so best of luck to him, but i have a question....when Shaq and Zo retire do you guys think he will be able to get back to the finals without a decent big man? I think a large reason he's able to do so good is because he has a big guy in the middle that is such a force. I could see it hurt the Mavs because when Dirk was double teamed he couldn't throw it to Damp or Diop very easy. I hope that either A)Dampier of Diop can get better offensively or B)Cuban can bring a good inside force to help Dirk out when he's doubled.

I supposed if anyone is going to win I'm glad it's 'Zo, I liked him when I was younger and he played his heart out in this one. He really deserved it and Wade is an incredible player, not just because he has a killer scoring instinct but because of his igreat finals rebounding as well.

I know the Mavs learned a lot this year and I know they'll rebound. GO MAVS!

Stan did a awful job coaching. Riley assembled a championship team for this fatass and all the players including WAde, Shaq, and Zo were saying how much of a bad coach Stan was. You say Stan was thrown under the bus by Riley?? Who's the idiot now? Riley got his players and got them their ring.
lol cuban's dumbass? what about your dumbass
I know, my jihad aghainst him and the Mavs is ridiculous but I just can't like someone who is such a whiny bitch. I firmly believe his bitching hurt the Mavs in this series because he set the tone for the other Mavs players to bitch and it took them out of the series. Instead of playing they just kept on making excuses while D-Wade and Miami were playing physical, pound it in basketball.

I'll try to comment unbiasedly now, this was a series the Heat really had to win. This is probably the last time Shaq can get there and Payton and Mourning knew that this was their besy shot to win one. Shaq was limited becaue the Mavs' team defense on him was very good as well as their 2 centers are probably the 2 centers who come closest to Shaq's size other than Yao. The Heat may have actually been better without Shaq on the floor at times, Mourning (and I hate him with a passion for screwing a few franchises and jumping on the Heat bandwagon after abandoning them) was playing great and you could tell he was putting everything out on the court. The Heat had to win and they knew it, the refs were biased for most of the games in Miami but Wade was still amazing and GP hit some key shots. In the end I just think that Cuban and the Mavs' complaining hurt them because they focused less on playing their asses off to win and more on why they lost and why it wasn't their fault that they lost the games in Miami.

The Mavs didn't absolutely need this series like Miami did. Their core players (Dirk, Howard, Daniels, Harris) are all still improving which is a little bit scary for the rest of the league. Avery is shaping up to be an elite coach but he still seems to have alot to learn, (a guy like Nellie would have destroyed the Suns with that roster IMO, it wouldnt have gone 6 games if he was coaching) he learned alot in this playoffs though and the Mavs will be loaded again next year. I like the way Cuban cares about his team and he'll do anything to improve it but the guy is way too loud and cocky, he seems like a major attention whore and (IMO) his team would be better off if he wasn't as controvercial in the media. Anyway, once this team gets a few more years under it's belt it looks like it should be a perennial contender.

The Heat on the other hand will probably make a relatively fast decline, Gary Payton should retire but that shouldn't be a huge loss. Zo and Shaq will be done in a few seasons and Antoine Walker will be hard to move with his fat contract, low FG%, and poor defense. The Heat have some decent pieces to build around in the future with Wade, Wayne Simien, Dorrell Wright, and Earl Barron but I don't see those guys as being huge difference makers (except possibly Simien) and they hae no picks in this years draft. Posey could opt out of his deal and get big money and a starting job elsewhere this offseason,

If you think SVG 'retired' so he could 'spend more time with his kids,' then you're an idiot. SVG got out because Pat said so. Even if he was a bad coach, you should at least have the common courtesy to be a man and say so.

That said, he got the job done, so props to him.
Prove it.
Disprove it. We can go back and forth like this all day, but you don't retire a month and a half into a season where there is the possibility of you winning a NBA championship in your second year 'because I wanted to spend more time with my family.' It was the worst kept secret in the entire league for a solid month. Where were you? One of the ESPN guys called it three games into the season.

exactly. He was right near the NBA finals the year before and you just suddenly retire to be with your kids? Gimme a break. Plus if he was such a bad coach and was so horrible, its pretty amazing that prior to this season he had as much postseason success in two seasons as Riley did in 10 in Miami.

Also Rome is awesome. Probably the best around when it comes to commenting on sports. His radio show is almost always entertaining, though it does have way too many commercial breaks.

Why should I disprove it? All we have to go on is what the man himself said. He said he wants to be with his family, now he is. Sorry, but I'll take his word for it instead of some sportswriters from ESPN.

In other news, Jason Terry has reaffirmed that he wants to stay in Dallas and they have some unfinished business to attend to. Hopefully, Cuban can get him signed.

I honestly don't know where we need help at on the team. I guess we could get a better backup power forward since a walking corpse is more athletic and can defend better than Van Horn.

Not that it matters because the Knicks are an absolute mess as a team. At least now Isiah can personally account for all of the moves he makes as a GM since he will be coaching this team nightly.

Spurs and Suns are still good enough to beat Dallas. I don't think it's a stretch to say that any one of those teams can make it out of the West assuming they are all fairly healthy. If Rockets had some decent role players and stayed healthy they are dangerous as well. The Kings might be able to make a run if Artest can stay out of trouble.

Out of the East, the Pistons are still capable of beating any of the WC's best teams as long as Flip Saunders can actually coach half a game.
