Megazell's Free And Legal PC Games List!

Well from the new list in the front you can tell that ACTION games are mostly what I play. On top of that most of the games I can install at the children center are made for low end machines. With that said if there is a genre you want to see more of...speak up. I will try to post more of those that other CAGs would like to see.

Adventure

Theme: Weird

Yeti is a short adventure game created by Mare Sheppard using the AGS engine, where the story follows a documentary director and his crew on the expedition to film an elusive yeti somewhere in the Himalayas. You'll assist the snow giant with his travels to the sunny city of Toronto, settle in the woods with another one of his kind, and get a desk job in a fictional company called Mennonite Software.

The entire adventure is viewed through the lenses of a video camera, and you'll have to click on the arrows on the edges of the screen to move between different parts of a room or a scene. Interacting with objects is as simple as clicking on them with your mouse cursor. To quit the game, just press the left Alt key and Q at the same time, then use the Enter key to return back to your desktop. - Indiegames.com

Bandits are trying to rob your train and steal all precious cargo! Thankfully, you are a skilled engineer who can construct many different kinds of turrets and use them to defend your train. You have to make it through 20 waves of relentless enemy assault before you reach your destination, so plan ahead and devise a smart strategy and you may survive!

Theseus - Return of the Hero is the logical sequel to Alien Shooter.

Despite all the human efforts to resist monster invasion, the blood-thirsty creatures keep occupying new territories. Theseus, the hero of this game, arrived in a small European town and got into the very middle of such a battle. Of course Theseus immediately joins the fight against the aliens.

In the Theseus - Return of the Hero game you will find:

- 10 missions, mostly taking place in open spaces;
- lots of playing locations: forest, village, highway, city battles etc;
- 6 types of weapons;
- ability to upgrade the main character;
- inventory shop where you can buy newest equipment between missions.

OnEscapee

Shooter/Platformer/Adventure/Puzzle
Single Player - Yes

onEscapee is a graphic action-adventure very much in the Flashback mold with a gameplay similar to Another World. onEscapee has a distinct cyberspace air to it. The main character is on the run from powerful alien beings on an alien planet, having been transported there for a reason that no-one knows at the beginning.

The title "onEscapee" hard to understand for the first sight: it is a compound of two words: "one" and "escapee". The one is supposed to emphasize the 'one man against the world" theme, and the hero is an escapee from alien kidnappers.

Since onEscapee has been released on the Amiga, it's received a number of awards, such as "Game of the Year" including Amiga Flame's, or the CU Superstar award from the word biggest selling Amiga mag!

Looking at the fact that it has received 90% or more better rating everywhere so far, plus that for the upcoming releases a number of improvements has been added, onEscapee is to be a success in the PC world as well!

Future Pinball

Action/Arcade
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Other

Future Pinball is a real time Pinball Development System. It allows you to design and play your very own pinball simulation in True real time 3D. It uses Advanced Physics to provide the best possible Simulation of a true to life pinball machine.

Tables are built up out of Standard components (Plastics, Pegs, Bumpers, Lights etc..) which are placed onto the play-field via the Editor. Objects like Surfaces, Lights and Rubbers are shape-able within the editor and generated real-time when the table is played. Other objects (Bumpers, Flippers, Gates, Triggers, Targets etc..) use pre-made 3d Models (of which there is a nice selection of each type).

The Table logic is scripted in Visual Basic Scripting (via the Microsoft Scripting Technology's built into Microsoft Windows). Scripting is designed to be simple but flexible enough to allow a wide variety of Original Games to be created. Only a limited subset of the Visual Basic Scripting Language is used as a lot of extra functionality is provided by the game engine.

Full Sound / Music Support is also provided with multiple Music Channels to allow cross fading.

As Future Pinball is a Game Construction Program it contains some advanced concepts which may require a little bit of time (and patience) to learn and fully understand (such as computer graphics and scripting concepts).

I've only tried it on the 360 and PS3, but according to the FAQ they apply to the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins as well.

What exclusive Dragon Age: Origins items can I earn in Dragon Age Journeys?

In Dragon Age Journeys, you can earn three exclusive items to use in Dragon Age: Origins:

Embri's Many Pockets

Amulet of the War Mage

Helm of the Deep.

These items will automatically be added to your downloadable content menu in Dragon Age: Origins after signing in with the same EA Account used to unlock them in Dragon Age Journeys. These unlocks will work with Dragon Age: Origins on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Good. Because I do bad things to developers that don't support their PC fan base. Very. Bad. Things.

LoL isn't really an MMO. They classify it as a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) if I remember correctly.

Very fun game.

Yeah but for the sake of sanity the amount of genres have to be kept to a minimum.

It did with my PC account. Never really finished the flash game though, so I only got the partial rewards.

One more thing on LoL: If you never played DoTA, then you're pretty much fish food in a sea of hungry hungry sharks. When I got to beta the game, the community is so harsh and uninviting to n00bs like me, that I just quited the game to save myself the grief.

If, by chance, you're a DoTA whore to begin with, then I've heard that this game is tons-o-fun.

Its a space invaders remake in Futurama Style from the Episode “Anthology of Interest II” where Fry wanted to see how the world be if it would be like a video game. The Humans are attacked by an alien raced called the 'Nintendians' and everything happens like in 'Space Invaders'. You play this specific Episode as a video Game for the PC , but with lots of Extras. You will only see every Extra if you reach at least Level 100.

There is no Level limit you can reach as many Levels as you can , but happy there is a Save function that saves every 9-13 th Level , also you can earn Save Bonus Scores to get Save Bonus Points with them you can save when ever you want.

You can use up to 30 saveslots , if you start a new Game and you reach a saving point , the Computer creates a new Save file. If you load a saved game and reach a saving Point , the old file will be replaced by a new one with the actual state of the game.

You will see more and more Extras if you reach a upper Level, this way you will see more new stuff and that keeps up the motivation, well we hope.

It’s a common superstition to be scared of a black cat, but in Shadow Neko the cat is the star of the game. This is a fun and simple freeware platform game developed in Japan.

There are seven levels to take our cat through with a simple and comprehensible goal: to collect all the fish before the timer runs out. Our commitment to the task will be translated into the score, so be careful to grab all the fish before moving to the next level. It’s a short diversion that doesn’t complicate things unnecessarily. - FreePCGamer.com

Hmm, might I add some suggestion on the MMO front? Personally played these games in one capacity or another, giving it a solid week before shelving it/realizing that I actually have a real life, complete with a lover, job, school, and friends...

Dragonica - Fun little 2.5d MMO, a cutesy and highly kid-friendly Dungeon Fighter, with better graphics imho. I played in the closed beta of the game, and had a ton of fun. Very kid friendly on how it handles mob-deaths and violence, not to mention the controls and "combo system" are simplistic, almost to a fault. The US version is currently owned/run by THQ, so there is a major US base for the game, without relying on some shady Korean-owned enterprise, not that I have anything wrong with that.

Cabal Online
- With the US version recently receiving the "Reloaded" version of the game, this might be worth a revisit (probably after I played Dragon Age to death, or I graduate from Grad School, whichever comes first). When I played this many moons ago, I was fairly impressed by the combat system which integrated a really intricate combo system. Unfortunately, I never had the patience to master such a system and everything else in this game screamed "Generic Korean MMO". Don't get me wrong, the game knows how to abuse particle effects and flashy "Omg I pulled a multi-hit, explosion and sword swipe everywhere" battle animations, but pull apart the layers of paint, and you've pretty much seen everything from everywhere else.

EDIT: A bonus Single Player game:

Meritous - A fun top-down Adventure game that I picked up a year ago, and still play from time to time. Uses randomly generated dungeons/room layouts, ala Diablo/Rogue, which leads to infinite re-playability. Move around with your arrow keys, and triggering your main offensive/defensive ability with the space bar, while combine this 3000 room dungeon for trinkets, items and exp to bring your character up to the next level, this game must have sucked days of play time from me already.

I hear you on that bolded text. If the games are not short burst games they usually don't stay in my rotation. Even then 9/10 they have to be games I can play with friends or family or they just won't stay installed.

Bear Go Home is a free platform puzzle game featuring visuals not unlike LocoRoco, Sony’s PSP game. However, that is where comparisons end. The Phoenix Seed production is aimed at casual gamers, presenting an easy challenge, but the core of the game lies on its charming universe, enemies and the levels our hero travels.

The player doesn’t have direct control over the small and cuddly bear, who just keeps on walking from left to right. Instead, using the mouse we must influence him to avoid foes, jump over obstacles and even fight a couple of bosses. But most of all, eat. Eat a lot. When the game ends – sadly, in less than an hour – the screen displays the amount of fruit eaten and enemies bashed, adding to the total points and screaming for another go.

The actions we can perform with the bear take some getting used to, but quickly we’ll grasp every move. By pulling his tail we make him catapult over pits, and dragging his abnormally large mouth we prepare him to eat the fruits that fall from the sky. We can also force him to jump (and double jump) by squishing the poor thing and give him some temporary boosts, like invulnerability (panda power!) or higher speed. An umbrella shields him from harm and a candle lights the way in the cave level.

The boss fights are equally inventive. The first one, with some sort of carnivorous plant thing requires us to... well, I won’t spoil it for you, but although extremely easy, it requires some attention to overcome. As for the other battle, it’s more action oriented than the previous one.

Along with the fabulous art style, Phoenix Seed opted for a different kind of soundtrack. Children sing tales about the bear, something unlike we’re used to find in video games. It may sound weird at first but fits perfectly with the tone.

There’s not much else to say about Bear Go Home besides ‘play it’. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s charming and will bring a smile to your face. If only there was more of it...

Revenge. As the adventure went on, Master JiKah travelled throughout a whole set of portals before he finally found the room where Sinith Majoo was known to hide. However the evil sorcerer was nowhere to be found. Instead, in the middle of the room, a final portal suddenly appeared and our hero decided to enter. He had nothing to lose. Wherever this portal may lead to, JiKah will do whatever it takes to track down and claim his revenge on his rival Sinith Majoo...

In Clouds Kingdom 3, Master JiKah will for the first time encounter enemies - an opportunity to practice the skill of the sword. To aid in his battle against these mysterious enemies, there are also other weapons such as throwing stars and special moves. Nothing can stop him now.
Try the new Sword Spin Attack, added with version 1.5!

To a complete new & original soundtrack composed by Johan Hargne you fight through 16 levels with various enemies and bosses. Version 1.5 contains a vast amount of bug fixes and updated gameplay from the original game released in 2005.

Daikatana: Deathmatch

First Person Shooter
Single Player - No
Multiplayer - Yes

Theme: Science Fiction
Theme: Fantasy

The EO and petroid have worked on a Daikatana version, with which anybody is able to play Daikatana online without any restrictions. This version is based upon the patched salesversion of Daikatana 1.2 and includes anything needed for Multiplayer. All singleplayer maps have been removed, of course.

The whole thing is absolutely legal and has been approved by John Romero himself.

Megazell's Comment - Man if you don't know the history of this game...read up on it. It is HILARIOUSLY SAD. With that said...here is the gimp. You will probably not find anyone ever playing this game. So why did I post it? Well, it free, legal and a PC Game on top of that there are 3 dedicated US servers that I am sure are powered by John Romero's hate and ego alone. So if you have a friend and want some DM action with no one to bother you but you are unable to host...then this game will be a treat for ya. Several of the students/kids from the center found this game over the holidays have played it a few times and liked it enough to send me several emails about it.

Further Note: If you plan to play this...shoot me a PM.

this thread is epic, and awesome. When my sister get's her new computer I've been prepping bookmarks so I can install some decent games on there for my nephews. I love them but they're so clueless they play flash games at some site they call miniclips and no matter how I try to explain can't seem to reconcile some flash version of Smash Bros vs the real thing.

The Binary

Adventure
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No
Netbook Friendly

Theme: Fantasy

The Binary is the sequel to Vicious Cycles 2011, BloomEngine's first experiment with minimalism in interactive fiction. Stripped down to its most basic elements and interactions, Vicious Cycles 2011 eschewed text prompts for hyperlinks, complex lexicons for accessibility. It was also very, very slickly-done and if the existence of The Binary is anything to by, rather well-received.

An entry in this year's Interactive Fiction Competition, The Binary will once again have you traversing the time space continuum to ensure that history remains uninterrupted. Much like the first game, The Binary doesn't go out of its way to expound on the reasons behind this. You have a job to do. That's all you need to know. In fact, it's something that your supervisor will stress upon repeatedly. Do not intefrere. Do not do more than you've been asked to do. Of course, it's up to you as to whether or not you'll listen.

Like the original, The Binary boasts of a tightly-written narrative and an interface that is even more fluid than the original. Technical-minded readers interested in developing their own works of hyperlink-based interactive fiction might want to check out Blink!, BloomEngine's custom built javascript engine. It's what for dinner. Okay, maybe not but it is what powers The Binary. - Indiegames.com

Conflict: Arcade

Shooter/Top Down
Single Player - No
Multiplayer - Yes
Netbook Friendly

Theme: Science Fiction

Conflict: Arcade has been a large project since August 2005. The game is another topdown shooter, based on the concept of America's Army, Soldat, and Unreal Tournament. The final release was to be online-only (with offline training missions), with many features like ConflictED Map Editor, server-filters, account statistics, and much more. However, after GameCave has closed down and the developers are each going through their own priority commitments, we have had to make the sacrifice of taking out online gameplay.

The game was previously known as Conflict: Online and since the previous demo the name has been changed since online gameplay was cut, and so the current version and previous versions will have a different title. They are both, however, the same game.

Jesus H. Christ, Daikatana? Are you sure you guys are being payed by John Romero to play this game?

... I'd try it, but I'm afraid of contracting herpes. I know it wouldn't kill me, but I hate itchy "stuff".

LOL. It's not the SINGLE PLAYER which was laughed at. The MP is very much quake like with a host of melee weapons and magic based attacks.

Beta - .kkrieger - Beta

First Person Shooter

Theme: Science Fiction

.kkrieger (from Krieger, German for warrior) is a first-person shooter computer game created by German demogroup .theprodukkt (a former subdivision of Farbrausch) which won first place in the 96k game competition at Breakpoint in April 2004. The game remains a beta version as of 2010.

Megazell's Comment - This game is in beta and still may have bugs. I personally ran it in 3 different rigs with the following cards: Nvidia 6600, Radeon 4870 and Nvidia 8600 all with Windows XP. The game ran awesome. It's a mindless shooter at this point but I felt like posting it to see where this game may become in the future. The art and design is very nice.
