Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
The tagline for the game is "No Place to Hide." You're in a warzone where shit is going down all around you. Where are you going to hide with bullets whizzing by and bombs blowing up all around you?
well obviously there are still places to hide if you can camouflage yourself, jump in dumpsters, or hide in drum cans

Sure the setting is a warzone now but I wouldn't expect stuff to be blowing up around you constantly. Being a MGS game I'm sure there will be moments that require a little more finesse than just running and gunning.

Of course it's not going to all about running and gunning. Just because Old Snake has a camouflage suit, it doesn't mean it'll be a pure stealth game either. The reason he has it is because there's not going to be many places to hide, so he'll have to be able to blend in with the environment when he's out in the open.

At first I didn't care much for MGS. But now...I want it. But I DEFINATELY want the MG:O.

Also, in regards to the "spoiler" trailer...
Who is Olga again? Is she the lady from part 2? I remember playing that game at my friends house when I didn't have a ps2.

Olga was the ninja in MGS2.

OH..was she the one in the beginning of the game? If so..ok I remember her. I thought olga was that big buff crazy chick that kinda resembled Cammy on steriods.

Olga was more skinny athletic. She appeared at the start of the Tanker level. Then she was the ninja. Then she gets wasted at the end by Solidus.

So basically, in MGS4 we get a basic version of MGO. With MGS4 ending the MGS series, they switch focus to the MGO online game, later releasing a standalone MGO game with more content.

Anyone else here suspect we'll see some pretty interesting online modes from future MGOs? Metal Gear vs Metal Gear fights? Battlefield style large scale vehicle and infantry? Should be fun.

MGS4 isn't the end of MGS:

"As long as there's a game called MGS5 and it's a game where you sneak around, it doesn't have to be Solid Snake, right? I'd like that to be created by the younger developers," Kojima said. "To put it another way, Solid Snake is one character that I don't want to entrust to other people."

I'd suggest reading that for anybody interested in hearing more about MGS4 and the new characters from the past few trailers, otherwise, it may be a little spoiler-happy for those of you that haven't seen them yet.
If the ps 3 didn't have metal gear solid 4 then I think it would be a complete joke.
By your logic...

If 360 didnt have Halo it would a joke. If Wii didnt have mario it would be a joke.
Have you played through MGS 1-3?
Played halfway through MGS1, and about a quarter through MGS2. Just didn't find either that engaging, and the story was pretty nonsensical. The cool thing about them were the stealth mechanics, and the demo shown for MGS4 seems to contain none of that.

There's a new MGO trailer in the PS Store for download. It shows off a classic MGO level (the school building level where you can climb up a series of buildings for good sniper locations) and some new stuff (Old Snake, shields, and the man cannon!).

Bet that won't make it to the American release. ;)

A quick name change solves that problem. ;)

Who would complain about doing it to kill "terrorists?"

Well then I don't think you'd really get what the big deal is about this game since you haven't experienced the stories in the first three games.

As for the trailer, I love how people are working together in it since in reality people are just going to be running around and shooting eachother without any tactics or planning like in the trailer

True, but it'll be easier to know where people are with that SOP system. I don't know if they'll bother waking up or healing teammates, but it's the thought that counts.

I loved the part where the one guy leans over the edge to look down at an enemy, who has no idea he's up there, and headshots him. That and the man cannon were the best parts of the trailer.

Can't wait for MGO, it's the main reason I wanted MGS4. I'll still get both. I loved the original MGO, and that level in the demo was my favorite in the original, since me and my friend would randomly mine it and get a few kills that way, until we ran into them ourselves.

Does anybody know what the limit is on how many players will be in one match, I would like it to have at least somewhere around eight vs eight if not 12 vs 12, depending on the map of course.

16 total, I believe.

I was listening to the Kojima podcast and Ryan Payton mentions that there will be an announcement this week. Not sure what it concerns, but they'll be announcing something.

What will it be? MGS4's release Date? MGO Beta? MGO's release date? New story elements/bosses/characters?

That's what really killed me about MGO in MGS3S. It had a lot of potential to be a cool, tactical shooter, but the games online weren't much more than auto-aiming machinegun orgies. I really hope the team working on MGO gets it right this time.

ZOE3!!!! Lol right, I am guessing something with MGO.

If you can get a few Cags together on one team and play I think we could do it like that. Chances of that happening with random online people are slimmer then Mana getting a g/f.

Not likely since he said it wasn't anything huge, like MGS 5, 6, and 7 as downloadable games. ;)

I'd definitely be up for joining you guys. I also hated playing with people who tried to turn the game into a run and gun fragfest. Spent most of my time playing Rescue mode, which sort of forced people to be a little bit smarter and more tactical about their style.

I never had that problem once I started playing people that weren't noobs. It was incredibly fun and challenging. I imagine the same will happen for the full MGO release.

Count me in man. :)

Did you know the people you played with? I usually just joined random games, and would always run into people like that. Maybe I'm just unlucky though. I think I may just stick to CAG games though. Seems to be a good amount of people here who will play.

With the bigger teams this time around, I'm afraid finding good team-work might get a little harder too. One reason why I don't really like those Battlefield type games where there are 64 people running around. No organization, and you basically feel really insignificant. That was one good thing about the 4 person teams. 8 player teams still is a small enough number to keep it fun and not too hectic, so I'm not too worried.

Yeah, sure there were people running around aimlessly, but the beauty of MGO was that through tactics you could gain the advantage over those types of guys. As you mentioned, the upper level players always had a rhyme or reason to what they were doing.

It looks like Konami is going in the right direction for this release. I'm just hoping auto aim has the effectiveness of the original MGO rather than more like MPO. Near the end of the game, AA became a skill and a useful tactic.

Random people. I did usually play with my roommate, but the people we played against were generally challenging (sniping, setting up traps, and ambushing us as a group).

Funny story, I went to see what my roommate was playing and he was in a special match in MGO. It was a knife fight match that took place in that school level (the one in the new MGO trailer) and on top of that building you could jump onto with the rocketlauncher on it. Everybody waited on the first building and two would jump over and pull out their knives, wait for the signal to start, and fight until somebody died or fell off of the building. Towards the end, they all got onto the building and it turned into a Fight Club-style fight of rolling and knifing. It was the funniest thing I ever saw.

Which MGS games would I need to play in order to get an understanding for the story before 4 comes out?

I played a little of the original years ago but dont really remember much about the story but want to get caught up with the series since I didnt really play ps2 games very much.

Usually with MGS, you can just pick up and play. I never felt I had to play any of the others to get what was going on, but it did help fill in some of the things that were happening.

This sone looks like it might be leaning heavier on the previous games with returning characters and what not.

Sure one of the hardcore MGS fans can help clear it up further, but from what I have seen you might at least want to go through MGS1 (or visit a website that has all the histroy/backstory of the games) first to get better understanding of the characters' relationships.

MGS and MGS2 lead into MGS4's story, though its backstory also includes elements from MGS3 and, I think, Portable Ops, too. You won't need to play them to get the story, but I'm sure it's more rewarding for those that do.

It was mentioned in the last Kojima podcast that the game will have flashback cutscenes that you can initiate when you see certain icons while navigating the battlefield. Some of them will even be in their original game's graphic style to add to the nostalgia factor.

Thanks. Whats the difference in mgs2 sons of liberty (heard of this one so assuming its the true mgs2) and mgs 2 substance?. Also for 3 snake eater vs subsistence?

Ya I was thinking I could buy mgs1 since it seems pretty cheap and rent the other since gamefly still has ps2 games.

Subsistence has the new camera mode (free third person camera movement that helps make the game more enjoyable to play), the original MG1 and MG2 from the MSX, MGO (servers are down for US players), and maybe some other small stuff like new camouflage.

Substance has VR missions, a skateboarding mode, and some extra missions that show you what Solid Snake's doing during the Raiden part of the game.

By now, both are probably what you should play over their original counterparts.

Most of the games I played were random online matches (very few of my friends could go online with their PS2s, sadly), so I'm sure that explains why I didn't care much for the game. I'm looking forward to trying the new MGO with people here. I'm sure it'll be better playing more organized games with people I (sort of) know, since my friends and I all play in a BF2/2142 squad and it's one of the greatest gaming experiences I've had.

no PSN demo, sorry folks

Following Tokyo Game Show, everyone who got a chance to play Metal Gear Solid 4 has been jonesing for another chance -- and everyone who didn't get a chance to play has been wondering what the deal is with the monkey. Nevertheless, it seemed as if a demo would be heading our way soon.

Though it makes sense, a demo isn't coming. So says the latest Kojima Productions podcast (via Game|Life). According to Michael Shelling from Konami, the E for All Expo is the first and last chance we'll be able to get our grubby paws on the game until its release. If people had known that before the expo started, ticket sales probably would have been boosted considerably.

No demo at all, not even as we get closer to the release date? Plans are subject to change, but right now Konami's official word is no. As you cry your bitter tears, you may find some comfort in reading our hands-on preview. Or it may put you in a spiral of depression.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163771

The demo was pretty fun, but 15 mins just isn't enough. Gonna try to play a bit more now.

Weird, I'd always thought of MGS4 as a 2008 title, so this doesn't surprise or make me sad in any way.

I just want them to polish the game, and more importantly make it a lot more accessable.

I thought April was always the earliest possible release anyway. I doubt they'd release a high-profile game like this in summer - I bet we're looking at September 08. First quarter will still be good with Burnout Paradise, Mercenaries 2, Devil May Cry 4, etc.

This is bullshit.

Now, I don't think I'll be buying a PS3 on Friday. This was the only game I wanted.

Someone pointed out the wording makes it sound likes it's being ported to the 360.
