Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

Okay, after watching it on my PS3 a couple more times I decide they aren't as bad as I first made them out to be. I can see the MGS series doing something like this after all. After watching the game play trailer though I just thought there would be no more weirdness by Hideo in his last game. I should of known better, I just hope these women are worked in great.
No love for the bosses? I think they all look awesome.
Agreed, I am hoping it is the RE4 of Jan. ;)

RE4 was quite a surprise. Hope this will rock Q1 of 08. 08= awesome

Dark Knight, MGS4, Little Big Planet, !!!

A lot of good info (plot-wise mostly) on MGS4 has been released for TGS:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6178842.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6178842

Spoilered all of the plot points of the trailer. This will probably be up in the PS Store as part of this week's update.

12:27] Ah, the big moment--Hideo Kojima comes out to present Metal Gear Solid 4. First, a new trailer. No English intepretation provided on this one. Bear with us, folks.

[12:28] First we see a character who's probably Naomi Hunter, talking frantically about the Foxdie virus into the camera, as if someone is approaching.

[12:34] Okay, we haven't seen that much concentrated craziness since MGS4 was unveiled. Give us a moment to digest. Konami has promised you'll be seeing a nice clean version of this trailer online once TGS starts.

[12:44] Prior to that, we saw a new trailer for Metal Gear Online on the PS3. We'll be getting six-versus-six hands-on with the game at TGS tomorrow, so stay tuned for a report on that. The trailer showed typical Metal Gear combat in a number of environments, and it looks like you'll be able to use the little Metal Gear Mark II robot from MGS4 in combat in MGO as well. Lastly, we saw a character launched into the air from a sort of catapult, :)rofl:) almost Halo-3-man-cannon-style. Unclear whether this is part of the gameplay, however.

[12:45] Now we see the MGS2 digital comic for the PSP, based on the game of the same name. Similar to the first MGS PSP comic, except this one has full voiceover. Now moving on to Metal Gear Solid Mobile.

[12:45] The game is in full 3D, though with a fairly low frame rate. Looks to be based on the first MGS, naturally, though the mullet quotient seems to have been enhanced considerably.

[12:48] Yeah, so how about that MGS4 trailer?
It was totally nuts. TOTALLY.

[12:49] Okay, we've got a script for that trailer right here in front of us. In English. Joy!

[12:50] That first scene with Dr. Hunter, she talks about how Liquid Snake has her prisoner, forcing her to hijack the "system" because she knows how Foxdie works. She begs Snake to rescue her.

[12:53] Next scene showed Meryl, the bald African-American character from previous trailers named Ed, and a few other armed soldiers moving cautiously through an enclosed car park. Meryl says "These guys are Liquid's private army. Shoot first, think later." They soon engage a firefight with a number of soldiers in metallic, futuristic armored suits, before Solid Snake emerges from the shadows and saves the team.

[12:54] Meryl talks about the network of nanomachines in each of her soldiers' bodies, which allow her and her team to literally share each other's senses and "operate as one."

[12:56] All throughout these sequences, titles popped onscreen: "Final Chapter of the Metal Gear Saga."

[12:56] "Final Mission of Snake."

[12:56] "Finally, Everything Will Be Revealed!"

[12:58] Next up, we see Snake talking to a slightly shady new character who calls himself Drebin. The guy's a "gun launderer," taking the genetically-encoded weapons of MGS4's future private military companies and unlocking them for use by anyone. The guy describes himself as "neither enemy, nor friend," but it sounds like his services will come in pretty handy. The guy apparently likes to keep a small primate around with him. Comic relief, anyone?

[1:00] Snake questions Drebin on the identity of the Patriots, asking if they're even human. "Not anymore, they ain't." Then we get shots of a strange little girl named Sunny, who Otacon says was taken by the Patriots at birth.

[1:03] Snake encounters an older, wrinkled blonde woman who compliments his close-quarters combat technique. She says "Call me Mama. Big Mama." But this script we've got reveals her name as Eva! Seems like everyone in any Metal Gear, ever, is showing up in this purported last installment.

[1:06] Excitement in the trailer reaches fever pitch by this time. Finally we see Snake taking a stand against Revolver Ocelot/Liquid Snake, who appears to be piloting the same Metal Gear Ray unit he was last seen escaping in at the end of MGS2.

[1:06] Lastly, dialogue between Naomi and Sunny, during which Sunny says "Her name was Olga... my mother." See? Every character ever.

[1:15] That's all the major plot points we managed to catch while also fumbling with a three-page script and trying to fix a dead wi-fi connection. Excuses, excuses. We surely missed a lot of cool details and action in this trailer, but like we said, the video will be available--in English--when TGS starts tomorrow.

[1:16] The most striking thing about the trailer is that none of it took place in that same Middle Eastern village environment we've seen ad nauseam for the last two years. Looks like the story of MGS4 will span a multitude of locations. Again, keep your eyes peeled on GameSpot for that trailer tomorrow, as well as hands-on info from all this Metal Gear madness.

As expected, Hideo Kojima came packing a brand-new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, one that's much more story-oriented -- including the re-introduction of
Metal Gear Ray and Rex
-- than ever before. Kojima stuck behind the early 2008 release date for his latest sequel, and users interested in remaining pure for his "last" installment in the series will probably want to avoid the new trailer.

Additionally, Kojima confirmed MGS4 will come bundled with a Metal Gear Online "starter pack," but declined to specify what exactly that includes. That wasn't all for the Metal Gear universe, either, as a new trailer rolled for Metal Gear Portable Ops Plus, which apparently sold a surprising 400,000 worldwide, prompting the special edition. The Metal Gear Solid 2 digital graphic novel is still in the works, as well, and Japan receives a bonus -- a free copy of the original digital graphic novel, now with voiceovers.

Crazy shit. Looks like my hunch will probably be right about MGO's involvement in MGS4, though I'd most likely get the full MGO since it'll kick more ass than the starter pack.

Edit: IGN has the transcript up for reading. Beware at your own stupid risk.

All I know is that if Konami is making us pay separately for MGO, they better

1) Patch it
2) Monitor cheating (which they did a pretty good job of at the end last time around)
3) Keep the freakin servers open for more than a year.

Then I'll be a happy camper :D

Finally got a chance to watch the trailer. Very nice indeed, can't wait for the demo.

Olga's child is a lot older than I expected. Shes gotta be about 7-11 years old. Guess MGS4 takes place quite a bit after MGS2

"Drop your weapon"

"You haven't even taken the safety off rookie"

"Careful I'm no rookie, I'm a 10 year vet"

*Grabs gun, gets hit in the face and thrown to the ground, while snake gets his gun and takes the safety off*

"How the hell did you ever survive 10 years?"

But seriously the fucking trailer looks awesome. I can't fucking wait for this game, it should be the best thing on the PS3 easy.

Sad face time:

UPDATE: Turns out there was a lil' Lost in Translation when 1UP Japan fed us the details on the MGS4 demo, as we've since cleared up the real deal: Kojima Productions would like to release the show floor demo, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will actually appear over PSN...or at all. Yeah, we realize that's a bummer -- and accept our lashings -- but it was a communication error.

Okay, I'm not being a troll, but I honestly don't understand what all the hype is about. I'll admit, the graphics look unbelieveable, but the trailers so far have been cryptic, boring, and weird, and the gameplay videos make it look less like a stealth game along the lines of the first MGS games, and more like a generic shooter. What's all the fuss about?

Have you played through MGS 1-3?
you would think that for a game that features the octocam suit as a main gameplay element it would be a stealth game
The tagline for the game is "No Place to Hide." You're in a warzone where shit is going down all around you. Where are you going to hide with bullets whizzing by and bombs blowing up all around you?

If anything, the gameplay seems more dynamic and less formulaic than in the past (i.e. memorize guard pattern, exit room, re-enter and execute).

Can't wait.

I have a feeling you will have to play as Meryl at some point.

When they were having the dialogue of the, "10 Year soldier" the graphics were so amazing. The detail of the "newb soldiers" face mask was so realistic.

I just couldnt stop looking at it. The ending was unecasary I hope its not in the real game, I hate those type of jokes.

It will be since you have the choice to help out one side or the other during the battles, which gives you access to new areas, weapons, and other stuff.

I wonder if at some point we play in Zanzibar Land or if we already are, it's not far from the Middle East in the Metal Gear world.

It's a MGS game, a game where you're not suppose to have the guards go "!" (i.e. see you). A game where the enemy is not suppose to see you is a stealth game ... thus, by the rules of logic, this is most likely a stealth game.

This isn't the same old MGS game, the gameplay should've been enough to tell you that. The stealth of those games isn't going to be around, as the chaos of war will be your only means of hiding from soldiers.

I would love that. I believe there are supposed to be multiple locations in the game, so it's quite possible.
