Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

I knew Konami couldn't deliver this game in 07. I remember the E3 video that ended with a "release date" of 2008 that was overwritten with an 07. It was funny back then but something inside of me called BS. Guess I was (subconsciously) correct.
 
This has been an 08 title for a while. Looks like it slipped from Q1 to Q2. No huge deal to wait a few more months at worst as long as they make it perfect.

And Zewone, I'm sure they will port to 360. Just like they ported last gens to xbox. Several months later.

KONAMI had initially intended to release "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS" this winter and has been working on the production of the title. KONAMI has decided to delay the title's release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide.

More customers....? Not enough ps3 sales , is that it....Wasn't the mgs4 a system seller SONY...?
 
Its ok with me since there are so many good games coming out from now till then and so many good games I haven't even started to play. This just gives me sometime to play some other games before I get to MGS4.
 
Here is hoping for a PS3 size reduction , BC Renaissance, and PriceCut before Q2 2008!

My 360 has plenty of games to play until Sony meets my console demands.

Bummer for those of you waiting for it. I hope the delay makes it better than you're hoping it'll be!

I still don't believe that Sony would let an exclusive launch get away from them, but the delays and oddly worded PR make me wonder if Konami's decided to leave Sony in the lurch. It makes for interesting drama.

My opinion--and it's all opinion--is that this is more than a simple 'blizzard.' We'll see.

EDIT: Another point that someone raised on Kotaku is that the odd wording may be a way of saying that they're doing a lot of last minute work to include rumble. It's a good point, I think. I'll be happy to have rumble included.

Oh well, at least I have my dear, sweet Castlevania to keep me company. That is my only solace.

Hopefully they're not just wasting time on something stupid like more motion controls or rumble.

If you mean "...greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide", I think they mean putting more work into translation/localization for a simultaneous worldwide release on PS3 only.
 
Sweet. It just so happens this coincides with my interest in picking up a PS3 being pushed back to Q2 2008.... hmmm... maybe this is the reason?
 
The quote... The game was already delayed until March of next year. The quote doesn't state that, only their intentions of having it out this year. That had already been ruled out though. So I hope there weren't people thinking it was going to be here for the holidays before this statement...
 
This is obviously due to the control-tweaking everyone's been talking about. Since "casual gamers" can't stand a learning curve of 2-5 minutes, they need more time to research how to make everything work with one button.
That way, Grandpa and Baby can also play Metal Gear 4 for maximum enjoyment.

I doubt that's it, because MGS 2 and 3 actually came out in the US before they came out in Japan. Localization is taken care of way in advance.

Metal Gear Solid 3 was never ported to Xbox.
 
"Q4 2008" will be the new "Q2 2008" here. You just watch.

For what it's worth, I don't buy that GTA IV will be out (for either system) until then, either. So not posting to bait the SDFers.

I've been right, and I've been wrong. I'll leave the percentage breakdown to your skewed perceptions.

Agreed. But if the last two MGS games are any indication then the real polished version will arrive about 6-8 months after the initial release on PS3. Grumble... grumble...

That or they are trying to find a way to make you use all 8 fingers and 2 thumbs just to shoot a gun and then you will have to use your toes on top of you fingers and thumbs to disarm your weapon.

I am sad to see a delay in a game that helped me part with the $400 I paid for my PS3. Oh well. As others have said, I would rather have polish over rushed. Not like I don't have any other games I can play. I guess we will be playing this sometime before next Christmas...maybe?
 
Meh, a few more months to make it as good as it can be? Sounds fair to me.

Quarter 2 is a slow time for games, so that'll be a big title to enjoy during that time.
 
Yeah, honestly. All fanboyism aside, I've learned to take delays because unless the development has been poor, it usually results in better games.

For example, Blizzard and Valve are two companies that are notorous for delaying games, but we all know what they eventually release are some of the best games in the market.

Basically any company that has a track record of good, polished games that sell well have a vested interest, and the guts to delay a highly anticipated game to make sure it'll live up to expectations.
 
Fine by me, Little Big Planet is slate for February, Killzone Slated for March, Devil May Cry February, Dark Sector Q1, we will have plenty of games to play Q1 next year. Not to mention Infamous, whenver it comes out.
 
If it lives up to the hype (which, for me, every MGS has done) then I'll be happy. Just wish they'd give us the E4 all demo to appease this wait.

Well, how are you handling the speculation at this point? There's been a lot of discussion about MGS4 appearing on the Xbox 360.

We like the console, it's fun and there are a lot of great titles for it. But, we're committed to the PS3. We want the PS3 to be successful, and we've had a great history with the PlayStation. So it's a PS3 exclusive title, now having said that ... questions like this don't bother me. The questions that bother me are ones like, "Are you worried that the Xbox 360 is stealing exclusives from the PS3" or whatever. I think that the industry really needs to grow up and get away from this Xbox vs. PlayStation mentality.

I really want to get my point across that the industry is mature enough so that we can get past this. There is space for three consoles, as Nintendo has proven. There are more important things in life than the Xbox 360 or the PS3 getting exclusive titles from one another. Life goes on. But, with that said ... if you want to play MGS4 next year, you're going to need a PlayStation 3. So that's the way it works ... is it something to cry about? No.

People speculating about the delay are welcome to do so -- there is nothing fanboyish about questioning the wording of the press release -- it IS an odd wording, and Kojima aside, Konami heads (who are higher up than Kojima) want it ported to the 360.

Xbots wouldn't even buy MGS4 for their console). Plus, the 360 doesn't need to downgrade the graphics due to being an inferior console.

Well, enough of all the arguing, I will say that the delay will probably be 1-2 months, which isn't bad. Q1 2008 looks to be pretty jampacked with SingStar, Home, LittleBigPlanet, Hot Shots Golf 5 (probably), Devil May Cry 4, and so on. I want the game to be near perfect, so I'll deal with a delay.

My dad was both bipolar AND schizophrenic -- whenever he had a bipolar episode, he got really paranoid and confrontational, just like TMK was getting.

Personal experience was talking for me there.
